I'm glad this place is here, but I don't really like it. Service is friendly but inattentively slow. Breakfast platters are all underwhelming. The sandwiches and salads seem good, so I'd go there for your options. Fries are your fairest portion of sides.
I keep trying this place because everyone praises it but I really don't get it. It is clean, it's friendly, it's not a franchise and it seems to create jobs for a lot of young adults in the area... kind of like, the neighborhood kid's first waiting job kind of place. So that's nice.
The coffee is good but you have to throw out a lasso to get anyone to notice it needs refilled. Last time we were there we ordered 3 meals and 2 of them were wrong. It was just poor order entry by the waitress.
I like going out for breakfast. It is one of the easiest meals to make at home, but it's a treat and you want to be served something at least as good as you could make it and hopefully better. The egg platters are so minimal and boring. The potatoes are a small portion of, I think, fried potato cubes mixed with onions and peppers. Meat portion is small also. I got the hash one morning and the corned beef was so tough, overcooked and fatty it was indelible. The person who cooked it clearly had no pride in what they were serving.
That said, I have seen food go past that looks better than what I order. There is a fried goat cheese salad that looks nice. Some of the sandwiches are fair portions and if you get fries it's a good sized meal. The cuban, some sort of grilled chicken sandwich and the burrito all look good.
After 4 visits, though, I think I'll take a break from Evelyn's for a while. There are a lot of breakfast/lunch places I like better; Chick & Ruth, Iron Rooster, Blue Rooster, Naval Bagel, and even the Sunday brunch at Cantler's is a nice portion and service. (That's a winter '24 special. Call to see if that continues)
