America's Oldest Diners Serve Up a Century of Comfort

"Established in the Hudson Valley in 1938, this classic diner experience features an all-day menu of over 160 items—from New York–style deli sandwiches to Tex-Mex, Italian, seafood, and house-roasted meats—and a soda-fountain destination of milkshakes, floats, and desserts; try the chocolate or Oreo shake, which are so big they come with a side tin plus a straw and spoon." - Annie Brown Verdin

Stopped in on the way up route 9 for breakfast with the family. We were given a warm welcome by the staff and quickly given a booth. The restaurant was very inviting, clean and there was no issue with noise even though it was a full house. With a full house, the orders didn’t take long to come out. I don’t think it took more than 10 minutes from the time we ordered to the time the food arrived to the table. Food was warm, fruit was fresh, and the service was friendly. Our server was always checking in on us and making sure everything was all right. Overall, we ate well, the family had a great time and we’re sure that if we’re ever in the area again we have a great place to come and eat.

Google
Vintage diner with good service but our omelettes weren't great. Home fries were excellent. If I went again I'd try lunch. Atmosphere and service are great but the food could be better.

I really enjoyed my visit to this diner. The food was solid and the prices reasonable. The staff was friendly and attentive, the tables were comfortable, and the place looked great.

Google
Best breakfast! Started with blueberry pie a la mode. Coffee with baileys and delicious veggie and Greek omelets. Veggies were crisp. Waitress took us in stride. I switched my home fries for cheesy grits. Bought wonderful pastries for tomorrow. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back. Very clean

Google
Very classic diner! Food is overall just okay but the portions are so enormous that you won't care. Seriously, we left with soooo many leftovers. The patty melt was pretty good and we enjoyed the pot roast quite a bit. The fries are also really crispy and tasty. The menu is very extensive, so anybody would be able to find something here. The service is friendly and attentive. The booth was clean. Parking is aplenty.

Great food and helpful staff. We loved it so much we ate there two nights in a row.

Yelp
Went on a Tuesday night 6:3O. Parking was full but had more on back side. We were visiting the mansions with my kids and stopped for dinner. I ordered the Monte Carlo! So amazingly good. Deli meat was top notch, French toast cooked to perfection and plenty of perfectly cooked sweet potato fries to share with everyone and the price was so reasonable. The staff were attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back on our next trip out!

Yelp
I went back with a friend to our old college stomping ground for a nostalgic treat! The chocolate milkshake was great! But other than that the food wasn't as good as it used to be. I got the BLT burger, it was fine. My friend also got a chocolate milkshake and the reuben with onion rings and the disco fries. Disco fries are basically poutine. I particularly didn't care for the onion rings though. They were breaded in seasoned bread crumbs rather than a beer batter or any other kind of batter. The service however was wonderful! Our waitress was the kindest! She was super attentive, told good stories and asked us ours. She took our whole order without writing anything down and got it all right! Which is particularly impressive because we had order modifications, like my hatred for blue cheese! The place hasn't changed inside a bit, it looks exactly the same as it did all those years ago.

Yelp
My partner and I have been coming here for years and years, yet I've never done a yelp review. This is a great place. It's clean and large on the inside, with a good "diner vibe." The diner has even been featured on the Food Network show, "diners, drive-ins, and dives." All of the employees are extremely friendly and helpful. My partner is handicapped, and whenever we eat here together, they always go out of the way to make sure that she is comfortable. They do delivery, and for to go pick up, they also have a drive-up window. The menu is huge... Our two favorite things here, are the mac & cheese, the pasta is always done perfect, and the sauce is just cheesy goodness. We also love the chicken pot pie. The crust is flaky, , the chicken is tender, there's lots of goodies inside, and the gravy is delicious. The last couple of times I've eaten here, from the breakfast menu, I've ordered the baked cheese, grits, and eggs. Baked cheese, grits with bacon, chives, and two eggs to order on top... Dear Lord, that's a lot of food. The eggs are always done perfectly, the bacon is great, and they really make sure that there was a good amount of cheese mixed in with those grits. It is very rich, and very delicious. If that's not enough carbs for you, it also comes with toast on the side. I always finish it, but I always waddle away from the table. The desserts from their state of the art basement bakery (also featured on Triple D,) are top notch, no matter what you order. Another great thing, is the milkshakes! No matter what flavor you get, they are thick, rich, and you not only get the milkshake in a glass, you also get the metal cup that it was mixed in. It's almost like getting two milkshakes. For everything you get, the prices are very reasonable, and they even do a military/veterans discount. We will be back again and again. Thank you

Yelp
Love the 50s vibe this place has since definitely feels like blast from the past since how gray box restaurants are these days. Plus they an old pay phone, such a relic. The service here was very friendly and was nice they made small talk here with you. For the food, my eggs were Perfect, ham steak Was lightly charred and so tender, wheat toast was lightly buttered and hash browns were seasoned but the usual elsewhere in quality terms. Only thing that tripped me up was cost of orange juice, not saying it was not fresh or delicious, just wish I noticed its price before ordering. Otherwise a great first try.

Yelp
Love that they have breakfast all day! I had the malted waffle which is the best waffle I've ever had (granted, most waffles I've had were made by moi at hotel buffets with premixed batter and a timed iron.) Uniformly crispy on the outside, but not so crispy it was hard or burnt. Decor is classic 50s-style drive-in/diner. Waiter was nice...cheerfully made 5 separate checks for our table,

Yelp
Bathrooms are gross! They are dirty and need to be renovated. That is one reason I dont like to go there any more. Please fix!

Yelp
I ordered the avocado toast something so simple but it was completely disappointing. The bread wasn't toasted, there was no avocado, just tomatoes and onions. I got it to go, and when I got home I was so upset because I had been excited to eat it. I even called to let them know, but the woman on the phone didn't seem to care at all. For something as basic as toast and avocado, this was unacceptable.

Yelp
Ehh the food is never consistent it's playing roulette with the kitchen cook.. poor servers .. If you order the same thing you got last time it's totally different.. I get it it's a diner but what really good diners are known for is consistency with the food.. it's simple but I guess not here and the food is cooked poorly.. seriously it's not like there are many diner left in the area so I see how this place stays open .. it's cuz there is no place else to go .. sad Ordered lemon chicken with linguine.. it came out like squishy squiggles and undercooked clumps .. like really and you let that go out that is on the server I will attach a photo Ordered the spinach artichoke dip haaaa I will also attach pics and let you figure out what's wrong

Yelp
When I saw that the Eveready Diner was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives... I was excited to give it a try. I am sad to report that the Ever ready has a cool 60s diner atmosphere with only average to poor food at best. On this visit we got: Avocado Toast - This horrific mess of a dish shouldn't be put on any menu. It consisted of two pieces of toasted white bread, a scant amount of avocado hidden under massive chunks of raw onion and tomato (the chef clearly doesn't know how to chop, let alone dice veggies), and absolutely no seasoning topped with a nicely poached egg. It also came with a side of breakfast potatoes which were soggy and devoid of any seasoning. (We asked for crispy potatoes specifically). Class Meatball Sandwich - Again a mess of a dish. The meatballs and a tasteless sauce that resembled marinara were situated on a round sandwich roll. The logistics of eating round meatballs on a sandwich bun with them all falling out, is not a fun experience. Why would you make a sandwich that is both tasteless and incredibly difficult to eat? The fries that it came with were fried nicely and were fresh. Diner Benedict - This dish was average, if not basic. The benedict itself consisted of a standard english muffin, hollandaise, and thin piece of ham. It was fine, but pretty bland and not something I would get again. The side of breakfast potatoes were again soggy, and devoid of seasoning. (Again, we asked for crispy potatoes) Frittered French Toast - Finally! The fantastic dish I was looking forward too. The perfectly cooked and seasoned french toast paired exceptionally well berry drizzle and cream cheese that topped it. Really tasty! The service at the Eveready was good! Friendly and attentive staff all around, good job! While I will definitely not return, I gave the Eveready two stars simply for the staff and the Frittered French Toast. Otherwise the rest of the menu we sampled was pretty terrible.

Yelp
Definitely a pricey option, but the food portions are enormous so most entrées are definitely shareable. Just remember to tip appropriately if you are sharing. My son and I each ordered an entrée which easily could have fed two more people. We took the leftovers home and heated them up for supper that evening. Don't bother with the customized soda options. Very pricey and definitely not worth it according to my son. Otherwise, look for daily specials My bill was very expensive because I took home two large desserts for our Easter table: lemon, meringue pie, and a plain cheesecake The lemon meringue pie looked glorious until I realize they smashed it to fit it into the box. A very big disappointment since the meringue was completely flattened and the pie had to be served with a spoon. Dollars. They need a deeper box. The plain cheesecake was significant and large enough to serve 12 to 16 people depending on the slices. At $50, it was definitely a splurge. Not as good as my homemade one, but it was a hit nonetheless. One of our guests asked if there was marzipan in the cheesecake. That is definitely something to ask about if you have a nut allergy.

Yelp
Great local diner with an extensive menu and seating indoors and outside with a huge parking lot. I placed our order to go at the front counter and the hostess was very pleasant. The food was packaged well and overall was a great meal. Their chocolate milkshakes are one of the best around if your craving one!

Yelp
Haven't been here in a while, service is moderate, food is either a huge hit or miss. Last time I was there, a live fly was cooked inside of the food, I have yet to return except for one time. The last time I went the restaurant was hectic, dirty, and overall not a good place to enjoy a meal. Along with this and the multiple health hazards I won't be returning

Yelp
True diner experience - the look, the menu, the food. Our group tried a chef salad, club sandy, burgers, etc. Great food, large portions. Lots of young energetic staff that are eager to provide whatever. If you're a diner fan, don't miss this place.

Yelp
Went to Eveready the other day for a late breakfast. I was very impressed with the quality and quantity of the food. It took me two days to eat a breakfast sandwich and home fries. I also had some very good rugelach And excellent coffee. My waitress was very friendly and sweet. Eveready Has some old Time diner vibes, I recommend it when you're in the Hyde Park area

Yelp
This is an old-fashioned Diner complete with the classic diner decor. We stopped in for breakfast and everything we ordered came out as HUGE portions! I ordered Cottage Cheese with Fruit, a Sesame Bagel and some pork sausage. I loved that they have Sesame Bagels (my favorite!)! My husband got a classic Benedict and we both enjoyed everything. Our server was not that great. She took our order and delivered our food and the bill to the table, and we never saw her again. You have to go to the cashier to pay your check. We would definitely return to this restaurant for the food, but the service could use and upgrade if we were in the area again.

Yelp
The Yelp address on this place is incorrect--should be 4184 Route 9 North--so hopefully that change goes through and the duplicate listing is removed. While a bit removed from Kingston, it's a decent diner with fair prices and I think we'll return. The kitschy interior (with art deco flourishes) is a bit loud but can be excused for a bunch of good dishes. After the server's recommendation we tried two of the wraps among a few other items. For me, my brother's Buffalo Chicken Wrap won out, though my Big Apple Wrap was delicious as well, just nothing to sing about. The fries--the measure of a diner--were okay or good. It's a strong contender for the best diner in the area that isn't a local nook.

Yelp
My best friend, Pots & Pans, and I stopped here yesterday for breakfast. It had been highly recommended by friends Paul and Gloria. Eveready is a classic diner, with lots of stainless steel, memorabilia, and kitsch. But you can't eat that, so on to the food.... I don't usually order French toast or pancakes, but the CBH was from a can, so it was bananas Foster French toast for me. For P & P, it was pecan / blueberry pancakes. We also split an order of sausage. My French toast (challah bread size) was amazing. The bananas were in a carmelized glaze, absolutely delicious in their gooeyness. My friend's pancakes also hit the right notes, and the sausage was the bigger type that is prevalent in the best NY breakfast joints. Coffee was also excellent and bottomless. And our server, Suzanne, a 17-yr veteran of Eveready, was so attentive, so nice...she treated us (and her other customers) like family. One last thing...Eveready has been in business at this location for decades. They've received over 2,600 Google ratings. Not sure why I had to add Eveready as a "new business" on Yelp. See screen shot. Overall 4.5 stars (half-point deduction for not making their own CBH). Rounded to 5 stars. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Still one of the best diners in the greater Poughkeepsie area. Their all day breakfasts platters are awesome especially with a side of their strawberry butter along with their humongous milkshakes, onion rings, and burgers. Great service and the coffee and drinks are always topped off.

Yelp
We found this place on yelp, looking to go somewhere for breakfast before the Roosevelt estate. We were seated promptly and the server came right over. I got a soda with vanilla syrup that was very good. I asked to substitute the ham with hash on my eggs Benedict and it was no problem. Everything tasted excellent and portions were very generous. The diner was clean and had a great local feel to it and it was clear many patrons were repeat customers. I would absolutely go back again if in the area.

Yelp
Service is ok but the food is horrible. And I mean really horrible. The fried calamari was all batter even the waiter apologized. I have gone here way too many times and I'm not even sure why. I guess it's just close by. But truly awful.

L D.

Yelp
I ordered the meatloaf dinner. It was delicious and among the best meatloaf meals ever! I got a salad that was included which was made with iceberg lettuce (not an iceberg lettuce fan) but it had homemade dressing that was really good. The meatloaf portion was huge with a mushroom gravy and it was moist and tasty. The mashed potato was homemade and portion generous. I took home leftovers and had them for dinner. As far as meatloaf dinners go, this restaurant nailed it! I was extremely impressed on the extensive menu and everything was homemade. Prices were more than reasonable for what we got.

Ellen J.W. G.

Yelp
Wonderful food. Almost too plentiful. We ordered onion rings, a Reuben sandwich and a Southwest salad. Onion rings - a HUGE plateful. Crispy, maybe a little too, but delicious. Everything else was fabulous. Best server ever - Kamryn. Wonderful experience.

Yelp
Food was great! Broccoli Cheddar soup w/bacon was outstanding. Chicken Pot pie was really good with huge portions. Service was great and quick after a day at the FDR house.

John S.

Yelp
Not only was this a very reasonably priced Diner, it was excellent food and service! The place was packed and we got a table within 2 mins! The items we ordered were piping hot and delicious. Our server Joanne l. was very good! we will be back.

Yelp
The food here is solid and they get you seated quickly. I stand by their steak and eggs and they always cook it perfectly rare and the eggs (sun up) are never overdone. The corny hash is also great, but I'm suspecting it's the corned beef hash from a can.... If you made it fresh, it would elevate the dish! My main gripe with this place is that it doesn't appear well taken care of. There is dust all over the place. The bathroom had no paper towels to dry your hands and has no air dryer that I could see, which would alleviate the issue. The toilets were gross and the sensors were physically damaged. There is a waiter here who is nice enough, but on one visit forgot half of our things and told us he was hung over and couldn't wait to leave, and this time we had him again and he gave my friend water in a plastic cup that was basically a safety hazard. (Yes, there are straws. Not the point) Also, why are the coffee cups so microscopic? The wait staff and support would not need to full up as much if they were bigger. This would give you more time to focus on other things and the place would run more smoothly with less coffee runs needed. The food is what makes me unable to lower the rating, it's always good.
google avatar

Margaret N.

Yelp
Still a great place, but last few times there the waitress took order brought out and disappeared until she dropped off a check, other day girl who brings you to table never said a word grabs menu's and walks away standing by table staring at us like we annoyed her- this stuff I can deal with- BUT the bathroom situation is a disaster absolutely disgusting ALWAYS smells like septic vile and dirty.
google avatar

Sue G.

Yelp
Came here after the movies, it was super busy. Very quick service. I ordered a cheeseburger, rare, and it came out well done, very tough. I got fries which I never ordered and the cole slaw was almost pureed. My dinner pals were happy with their meal. It was so extremely busy I did not send it back and ate some of it. It was a diner....so.....not too bothered about it.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere in a great vintage diner. Great server, very attentive. Food was pretty good. Burger was decent, fries very good. Hot roast beef was plentiful & good. Meatball sandwich was ok. Very cool place.

Devynn N.

Yelp
Not the biggest fan. Kids at the hostess stand are always unpleasant and dressed inappropriately wearing crop tops. Servers are kind of rude and let you sit there for a long time without checking on you. None of the staff smiles at anyone. Every time i have gone there our food order has been incorrect and needed to be fixed. One time they ran out of normal butter and without letting us know, they brought us this weird pink butter that was fruity. Food is honestly pretty good and the portions are very large which is nice. Always have leftovers to take home for later.

Gina N.

Yelp
Food was good but terrible service. Didn't write down his name; young African American male with long dreadlocks. Gave us order then never came back once to check to see if everything was ok, if we needed anything else, not even another drink. Then came and just put the bill on the table without a word, no offer for dessert or coffee, nothing. We went up to pay our bill and he was standing next to us and wouldn't even make eye contact with us (and that was before he saw what a small but more than he deserved tip we left). Don't think I'll be going back there again !

Yelp
Honestly, this restaurant is probably the worst I've ever been to and is a shame to the existence of American diners. I was told by the waiter that all the wraps are good and they are some of the most popular items, so I decided to give the Wrapper's Delight a try. I was immensely disappointed with it to say the least. I got it with philly steak expecting something similar to an actual philly cheesesteak since it even came with cheese, grilled bell peppers, and grilled onions and it didn't even come close. The philly steak had no seasoning or flavor, the cheese was simply melted shredded cheese that was almost hard when I got it, and the grilled onions and bell peppers had absolutely no flavor. I'm not even sure how it is possible to make grilled onions and bell peppers that have no flavor, but they managed to make them taste like they were grilled with only water to season. The disco fries were also a huge disappointment as they were completely botched when my party received them. For a dish that is so easy to make, to just melt cheese and put gravy on fries, it was just horrible. While the cheese was slightly better than the Wrapper's Delight, the gravy was absolutely atrocious. It didn't even come close to tasting like gravy. The closest thing I can think of that tastes like it would be salted water that the cook spilled a small spoon of soy sauce in. I will say that the only redeeming qualities of the restaurant are the aesthetics, the fact that Guy Fieri went there, and the mints you get at the end of the meal that are next to the cash register. These mints are M&M shaped and taste exactly like girl scout thin mint cookies or peppermint patties. It was the only thing that seemed to be done right. If this restaurant wants to improve they need to cut the menu down significantly and get better at the actual popular dishes. Unless they do that, the meals they serve will continue to disappoint.

Deb S.

Yelp
Old metal structure old diner feel. We were promptly greeted and seated with time to look over a large menu with everything from breakfast all day to appetizers through dessert We opted for the spin dip with spinach and artichoke and lots of cheese. As good as it was on chips it was even better in bread. Yummy. For entrees we chose the grilled salmon and the grilled scallops both very tasty meals although the salmon was burnt on the bottom. The scallops were covered with a dark mushroom sauce which was delish Our server was attentive and not intrusive We passed on dessert but will make note to return when we are back in the area Ps it has been featured on diners drive ins and dives

Yelp
Just wow. My wife and I have been here before and I am happy to report it is still just as good. This a classic old diner with the chrome all around. We were seated immediately and placed our order. I had the New Orleans Chicken Salad and my wife had a veggie burger. Big portions that were REALLY good. Then, for dessert, I had the NY Cheesecake and my wife had the Tiramisu Cheesecake. They were two big honking pieces that were delicious. I think we had to waddle out of there after that meal. Our waiter was friendly and humorous; the rest of the staff were also very friendly. Recommended.

Yelp
First impression was this place isn't maintained very well. Leather in chairs and booths weee cracking making it hard to sit comfortably. Tiles on floor looked old and dirty. The server was very nice when we could find her to get her attention as all the waitresses seem to be hiding in the corners gossiping with each other. Seems like they have a chef that doesn't seem to care as the food was just ok until we got to desert. The chocolate cake was stale like it was sitting open in the air for a couple of days and was dry and crusty. The bread in the bread pudding tasted sour like it had rotten milk poured on it. We don't mind paying higher prices for decent food but it's way over priced for what they are serving. We've had better meals at Applebees and all the fast food in the area Will try to avoid this place if at all possible

Yelp
I wanted to give this spot a four or more star rating. I really did like the aesthetic, the seating. Maybe I could have rated this placed better if I had followed my own personal rules. This is a fun, hip concept of an old school diner. My rules for these types of places is ordering their specials and sandwiches/burgers. Instead l ordered a farfalle dish, knowing most places overcook and destroy pasta. I knew better and did it anyway. As predicted, pasta was soggy and overcooked. The chicken was chewy, overdone, and under seasoned. I actually felt unsafe eating it, so I ate almost none of it. I left most of the dish on the table. The service was decent. She tried her best given what she had to work with. This is a place to come for fun photos, breakfast, and sandwiches. Skip the pasta or anything more complicated.

Yelp
We stopped for dinner Saturday evening, last week. It's been a while since we were here. Standard diner fare; large portions and fast service. The 4 stars is for our waiter Carson who seemed a little nervous, so we asked "if he was new on the job?" He said it was his 3rd day and we were his second table. He went out of his way to make us comfortable, without being obsequious. I asked if the meatloaf was glazed in ketchup? I don't care for it on my meatloaf; a burger - Yes. He said he wasn't certain. He went to the kitchen and brought a sample back to the table; to see if I'd like it. I did. Do you remember your first job as a young person? How stressful it can be and nervous you were? We told him not to worry, it will all work out. We enjoyed our meal. As we were ready to leave; the place was filling up with a line out of the door.

Yelp
Good sandwich, decent price, quick, if a bit curt, service. Ambiance was interesting.

Yelp
Everyready is always a yes for me. From the shakes to the salads you will not be disappointed. There is something on the menu for everyone. But the milkshakes are my favorite, they give you an extra tin for a second helping of your shakes. The disco fries are a classic that shouldn't be missed.

Yelp
A classic diner experience. The Everyready does everything right! Good classic diner grub and friendly service makes this diner a delight. Bravo. Keep in truckin' Everyready.

Yelp
With a group of friends, we came to a Eveready diner, and we each ordered something different. well, they ordered different burgers and me and my friend order different salads. And yes, that was my Cobb salad the cob so it was great minus the chicken was very dry and would've appreciated freshly cooked moist chicken. My friend said their burgers were really good. They order different sauces and cheeses. I taste my french fries. They were good and fresh and my other friend said they Love the onion rings, I do believe he said it was a bison burger. We had a great time. My salad was pretty big I definitely took some home. Everybody else finished their food. The service was good even though the girl was new she made sure to check back with us that we liked everything. It's a great family place to go and even though we had seven people we got served pretty quick. Although she forgot to ask us if we wanted dessert but maybe we were all looking pretty full.

Yelp
Lovely old style diner. Generous portions of tasty foods and the best cappuccino outside of NYC. Forget the appetizers ... they are bigger than the main meals, and good. The bruschetta appetizer was enormous, and the melted cheese added to this wonderful indulgence...leaving little room for the main course. A good problem for many of us.

Yelp
Best diner in the area. Eveready food is delicious, heaped and full of flavor. The coffee is strong, service quick. Once in a while they train new kids and the service is not like you remember. In the front of the shop is a large bakery with cakes, cookies, danishes and croissants. There's seating in both the front and the back along large windows. Today we came for a gigantic heap of hubcap nachos with sour cream, cilantro, spicy peppers and guacamole. It was excellent! As usual our service was fast and delightful. The food was awesome. Sometimes I wish they had a few less pricy 'small' dishes for a quick bite, too. Review: Five star food.

Yelp
We decided to order burgers and when I saw that this spot offered gluten free options, we decided to place an order. My last experience was amazing and figured I'd have another great experience. Unfortunately, this experience was not as good as my first and it was really disappointing. When placing my order, I requested a gluten free bun and not the sliced bread. I ended up receiving the gluten free sliced bread. Initially I didn't mind until I tried eating and it was an absolute mess. The bread just crumbled apart and I doubt this would have happened should I have received the gluten free bun as selected. Next, both burgers were supposed to have no onions and they were full of onions. There were no napkins or ketchup in the bag when we brought the food home. The worst part was that my fiancé added bacon to his burger for an additional cost and did not receive that bacon. His bacon cheeseburger was now a simple cheeseburger. On a positive note, the burgers were very large and the patties were quite delicious. Really nice flavor and everything was still warm. The coleslaw was not good at all though. I did enjoy the pickles. I happen to love pickles. Maybe they were busy due to it being a Saturday. I'm not sure what happened but was definitely disappointed after having such a great experience on my last order.

Yelp
Had a doordash order. Ordered extra eggs. They never made it. Toast was burnt. No quality control. Food was good.

Yelp
Ordered a Paramont sandwich, the chicken was very dry with no seasoning. There was no senior menu that I could tell. Very high price for the quality of the food.
