The temporary exhibit Making American Artists : Stories from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts on view through May 11, 2025 is fabulous. It exceeded our expectations ! Highly recommend lunch at Louise. It is exceptional and unforgettable. All the museum and cafe staff were lovely.

NOTHING SPECIAL. We visited the museum on Saturday, it was free admission, they asked us to donate minimum of $1 per person. The building was very nice. The items weren’t special. It had small collection and some galleries were closed that day.

First two floors were great! We didn’t really enjoy the dead end / skateboarding temporary exhibit but was still nice. I’d probably recommend going on one of the cheaper days. Just because otherwise it is $14/adult for a relatively small museum. Niki/Nicky (unsure of spelling) gave a great background and explanation of the ceramics room to my mother and I. They were very knowledgeable and it was very interesting!

A great little museum! It’s not super huge so you can easily see everything in one day. The exhibits definitely skew more towards the modern and contemporary, but they also have some historical pieces, especially in the ceramics exhibit. Admission is very reasonable (I think they have free days too, but you’ll want to check the website) and the gift shop, while small, has a good selection. The building itself, designed by I. M. Pei, is a work of art and has a large plaza with fountains. If you’re in downtown Syracuse, this museum is definitely worth checking out.

Impressive architecture…take as long as you need to take in every detail, every piece of art or even a coffee! I was able to enjoy Christmas decoration around the whole museum 🤩.

I recently visited the variety of programs from children in the area and I must say that it was a very pleasant experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the exhibits were very interesting and informative. The price was also very reasonable. The exhibits featured a wide range of topics, from animals, to science, to history, to art. It was great to see the variety of programs for children, and I'm sure the kids found it very interesting. There were also some interactive activities that the children could get involved in, which was great for their learning. The environment was very pleasant and the staff were very friendly, which made it a great experience. I was even able to find some great souvenirs to take home as a reminder of my visit. Overall, I found the variety of programs from children in the area to be a great experience. It was interesting, educational and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful and the exhibits were interesting. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a great place to visit. The only downside I found was that there were some annoying people there often, which could be a bit of a distraction. However, this didn't detract from my overall experience too much and I still had a great time. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a great place to visit and learn. The staff were friendly, the exhibits were interesting and the price was reasonable. The only downside is that there are some annoying people there often, but this didn't detract from my overall experience too much.

I went here for an art camp and I loved it. We got to spray paint and just craft a whole bunch. It was really fun! 5/5 I would recommend to everyone

Yelp
The Everson is a place I've appreciated since I was a kid. It showcases a variety of art that is admirable on countless levels. They host classes available to the community- one I took was pasta making which I'd never would have thought I'd make pasta in an art museum which made it even more glorious. Always check to see what exhibits are in house & take the time to appreciate the space when you have the opportunity to.

Yelp
Walking into this museum seemed familiar. Is it because I build museums with museum tropes when I play the Sims 4? Sure. Is it because it looks like every eclectic household owned by a millennial that wants to try the gallery wall style in glorious maximalism fashion? Sure. They were undergoing a renovation so the collection is literally thrown against the walls with a sign put up about the chaos. That'll do.

Yelp
The ceramics show was fascinating - it combined a large collection of excellent pieces with videos of some of the artists. The general focus on local and NYS artists actually works very well since there are so many artists in the region that are good and interesting. The current main exhibit was not of interest to me. I was also so glad to see they will be opening the cafe again! I used to go there years ago and loved it. Having a place to sit and eat or have a coffee to reflect or meet with others is so important. One woman donated the funds to re-open it. I always find something in the store, but over time it seems to have fewer and fewer items that are within reach or very good. There are no (or few enough that I missed them) books, calendars or artist note pads, which most museum stores have. There were some cards and postcards.

Yelp
When I first approached the exterior of this museum years ago, I was put off by the brutalist exterior. Actually, I disliked it. Where is the entrance? What's up with the odd shape? It clashed with my notions of what a building was supposed to be. Repeated visits over the years have changed my opinion entirely. I love it. Now, it's not uncommon for art museums to design bold spaces for their collections. However, this structure by I.M. Pei opened in 1968. It was radical for its time. It's essentially sculpture. You have to look about to find the entrance. This minimalist but multi-faceted tan and grey box sits at the edge of an elegantly bare plaza. On a warm summer day, it may be pleasant but Syracuse's frigid winter temperatures can make it all seem a bit unnerving. The major challenge now in trying to appreciate this museum is that it is in desperate need of help. The minimalist exterior and plaza don't benefit from poorly-placed outdoor sculpture and, during the time of my visit, the clutter of pokey holiday decorations. There are numerous repairs, especially to broken concrete, that should be made to the building and plaza. Inside, the large lobby is highlighted by a flood of natural daylight and a wonderful stairway that curves to the second level. (Two architects were visiting while I was there and we were all snapping photos of this singular space for about 30 minutes.) Unfortunately, almost all of the collection was under wraps as much of it was being reinstalled. It was incredibly frustrating not to see but just a few of the ceramic items for which the Everson specializes. This wonderful museum seems adrift. It seems begging for a monetary and curatorial intervention. While I departed in discouragement, I remain optimistic because I.M. Pet's creation can't be ignored forever.

Yelp
The exterior is ponderous and grey - like much of the rest of Syracuse - yet inside, is bright (although not light) and open. The downstairs floor was partially closed, partially occupied with children's art class, and partially filled with local amateur art... which was interesting, yet, missing a common thread. Plus, the carpet on the floor was so dirty. A yoga class occupied one full gallery of sculpture, so we couldn't walk through and the gallery of small sculpture/pottery was roped off. There was an interesting video installation and a disturbing mixed media WWII exhibit. The extra large sculpture gallery on the top floor was the highlight of the visit. People there were very friendly & informative. I'm giving the museum the benefit of the doubt; assuming we just hit it on an off-day. It's worth a visit if you're into modern & installation art.

Yelp
Small. Eclectic. Expect lots of pottery. Focuses on American artists. The $8 to get in was a fantastic way to spend an hour in Syracuse out of the cold. Don't expect to be amazed by intricate displays but still organized well and enjoyable.

Yelp
a trip to the everson has been on my to-do list for quite some time.... finally made it over yesterday. The building itself is aesthetically pleasing; constructed from stone, concrete, glass, with lots of natural light, high ceilings, very open, juxtaposed geometry (curved staircase within a a very square room). However, the exhibit "home sweet home" was unfinished. i really loved the pieces available for viewing, but how can you charge full price for a ticket when only previewing half of an exhibit? seems kind of wacky to me... also, a lot of art in boxes/storage, with empty rooms. feels very incomplete in general. i was tempted to ask for a ticket refund, but there were hardly any other visitors and the place looks like it could use all the funds it can get. one of the highlights of the trip was the lower level- the UNIQUE exhibit which showcases art/poetry from local individuals with various disabilities/health issues. very touching exhibit and full of very beautiful pieces.

Yelp
I'm a bit disappointed with our most recent visit, although I have hopes this beautiful museum will improve. Perhaps I just happened to visit in a very transitional time, regardless the installations were poor and the permanent collection was limited. I did find the installation consisting of the museums staff interesting and a few very nice pieces. The Gods and Monsters installation was good, but displayed in a frustrating way. I can't imagine how accessible it would have been had more than three people tried to view it with any depth. There were two loose leaf keys to the portraiture and artist. Really? I hate where's Waldo. The bathroom in the lower level was in extremely poor condition. It needs updating badly, but on a very basic level it needs a proper cleaning. The sinks were so filthy, as was the rest of the facility. Surprising and gross. As I related this visit to friends later, I learned there is a new director at the Museum. I'm hoping things improve and today isn't a sign of what's to come.

Yelp
Wow - I'm really baffled by this museum. The museum is known for having an exceptional collection of ceramics, and a sturdy collection of American paintings. My purpose in visiting the museum was to have a look at the permanent collection of American paintings, especially the Gilbert Stuart and Edward Hicks works that are shown on the website. Unfortunately, only a handful of paintings were on display, and they did not include the ones that had drawn me in. So I moved on to the renowned ceramics collections, which for some reason, the museum has decided to display only a small portion of, and put it in the basement gallery. I would strongly encourage the museum to at least mention on their website that most of the collection is not on display. The space the museum has saved by NOT displaying its permanent collections evidently has been devoted to special exhibitions. One of those special exhibitions on display when I visited was "Seen and Heard: An Active Commemoration of Women's Suffrage". Let's tackle the title first: there was nothing in this exhibition that commemorated, actively or inactively, women's suffrage. As for the art in the exhibition.....seriously, curators, you couldn't find anything better in your collection? I proudly call myself a feminist, but I found the works in this exhibition both boring and offensive. Unless you're a museum studies student, about the only reason to visit the Everson is to look at the I.M. Pei building. Museum studies students should visit and study the Everson to see a museum that's seriously gone off the tracks.

Yelp
The s was a big disappointment!! The main gallery was closed for renovations, so we could only see the temporary exhibits. These were not at all interesting -- the "Who? What? Where?" exhibit was a total waste of space. The ceramics exhibits were better. A lot of the contemporary art wouldn't have made it in a high school or junior college student show. The building itself is impressive, the staff were friendly, the Children's education area looked good. But if the temporary exhibits were everything, I wouldn't come back.

Yelp
It is a good place to spend a few hours. We don't go too often. Only when there is an exhibit that really interests us. The price is great. Free or donation.. They do have a huge collection of ceramics. One of their sponsors is Syracuse China which explains the size of the collection. It's interesting. We enjoy going on a lazy day.

Yelp
I have not been to the Everson in many years. However, the building is an I.M. Pei. It is kind of cool that Syracuse is home to a great work of Architecture. I.M. Pei also designed the S.I. Newhouse building on the Syracuse University Campus in 1964 which is probably why he was picked to design the Everson in 1968. The building itself is probably the most important piece in the collection. However, there are often traveling displays that travel through on a regular basis. Having Syracuse University in the middle of the City really helps supports the arts.

Yelp
Nice museum. We went on a Sunday afternoon. It took us about 2 hours to walk through and read/see the exhibits. It was a nice afternoon. We sat outside by the fountain for awhile enjoying the atmosphere. It was not crowded. The building is very unique. Designed by I. M. Pei, the building reflected an austere atmosphere. Very unique and pleasant to view.

Yelp
This is a small museum, but it's a great way to spend an afternoon. They always have unique exhibits and the staff is very nice.

Yelp
If you're in Syracuse, broke, and/or into ceramics, do NOT miss this pay-as-you-wish museum. On the lowest floor are some of the most astonishing and varied clay masterpieces by artists all over the world. Yes, there is beautiful pottery. But there are sculptures made to resemble cardboard, leather, wood, styrofoam, and all manner of other media. On upper levels are rotating exhibits, some ancient art, modern paintings like what one would see in NYC's Whitney, and a gallery full of Tiffany glass. There is also an interactive and educational section for kids (and kids at heart).

Yelp
It's an alright museum, it's "the" art museum of Syracuse. Small museum with not much to see. I remember there was some fashion/dress art exhibition. During September they do have an outdoor movie screening on the wall of their building which is really cool!

Yelp

Yelp
Enjoyed a recent visit here with my Mother. Friendly staff - went on a Friday morning, think we were the first visitors to the museum. Felt like a private viewing. Small but worth a stop if you're in the area and have an hour or so to spend. Enjoyed waiting for the museum to open -- able to sit outside near a beautiful fountain and sculptures.

Yelp
Recently,I spent a fine day enjoying this fine art museum which has a fine array of 19th and 20th Century American paintings and an excellent amalgam of Ceramic works.Painters with fine paintings in this art museum include;Eastman Johnson("Corn Husking"),Sanford Gifford("A Sunset,Bay of New York"),Albert Bierstadt("Nevada Falls"),Julian Alden Weir, Cecilia Beaux,Gifford Beal("Freight Yards"),James Tyler("Oswego Harbor"),Reginald Marsh("Mural For Museum of Modern Art"),Jerome Myers("In the Theatre"),and Helen Frankenthaler, among others. I also appreciated delightful Ceramic works by Jack Nelson("Mr. and Mrs. Moon),Viktor Schreckengost("Dictator"),Susan and Steve Kemenyffy("First Lady of Spring",among others in this art museum located close to Syracuse's Centro Bus Terminal.I also appreciated the fine temporary Daryll Hughto exhibit which ends in late August,2018(this exhibit featured "Sailin Shoes" and "Sailboat Sonata"by this Contemporary painter originally from nearby Watertown,New York.).This art museum is very aesthetically appealing,
