Philly Chef Kurt Evans Receives ‘Champions of Change’ Award from World’s 50 Best Restaurants | Eater Philly

"Started during the pandemic as a mutual aid organization to provide free food to underserved communities, Everybody Eats is one of five co-founding projects Evans supports; he plans to invest 50 percent of his prize into the group to help get a community space up and running and to purchase and set up a roving produce truck — a box truck in partnership with US Foods that will ride to food-desert and low-income neighborhoods where people get a tote and can fill about 15 pounds of produce until the truck is sold out — an operation the organization plans to run a few times a month." - Dayna Evans

Ordered from DoorDash in attempt to support a Black-owned business. Our dasher (bless his heart) messaged us after 30 minutes of waiting and alerted us of the holdup. After an hour and a half, messaged again to confirm that he was on the way after the long and difficult wait; he stated that the staff was negligent of his time and presence, and once addressed for the order, they were rude and disrespectful towards him. Instantly, I knew we made a mistake! We ordered because of the BOGO meal deal, but my right mind told me this was only a matter because something was wrong with the establishment, whether it was the food or not! We ordered the chicken wings and whiting meals in hopes of having a meal for lunch and dinner. Personally, the best thing in my plate was the roll, and it was soggy because of the juice from my string beans, which were the second best thing even though I nearly choked on a inch-long bone that was in dispersed in them. Anything with batter that was fried was ABSOLUTELY disgusting!!!! INEDIBLE, I LITERALLY HAD TO SPIT THE FRIED OKRA OUT!! So disappointed. The whiting was also nasty, but I had to eat SOMETHING — made sure I doused it in ketchup. Would not feed it to my precious dogs, much less recommend to a human (they would not even eat it, they know better & have better taste)! For what it is worth, purchase the ingredients and make yourself. Will save you time, energy, and money because this was NOT it smh.

Ordered on doordash. Now why the plate take 1 hr to get here just for me to open it up and only have one turkey wing. Not yall cheating me out a wing. That just aint right. $24 for one lightskin turkey wing and my rice was overcooked😭 I said lawd. My greens had more onions in it than greens but the yams was good. I tried to call twice, no answer. Come on now black ppl. Let me just stick to my church soul food at this point chile.

Yall are starting to become very inconsistent, originally I really liked yall now service and food both lacking. Used to get a plate two big turkey wings and sides and it didnt take 2 hrs. Now it takes 2 hrs and you get a portion of one wing for the same price ridiculous. Edit- i'm not lying about anything, I ordered off doordash and this is the 2nd time I've ordered recently and got it like that. I wish I had taken pictures because I have spent lots of money with yall def have no reason to lie and on doordash the price is still the same $27.

I ordered through doordash for pickup in store. Placed order at 6:20pm. Message said est pick up bout 650-655. I walk in at 650, tell them my name and she said it's almost ready, only to come back shortly to say they out of shrimp for my shrimp and wing plate. I'm like OK replace with fish. My other plate was done. So now one plate getting cold while waiting on fish. I kid you not, it took bout 20mins to fry 1 piece of fish. I'm approaching the window to see how much longer it was gonna be, she said we waiting on fish. Finally bout 10 mins after that it was finally ready..only to get one to 1 plate cold and the other missing potato salad. I called back up and got no answer. I was excited to try them but highly disappointed with the experience. The wing were good and the fish too...been great if they were hot ..the greens not to my liking. I won't be back.

First time picking up some food from them and I must say the food was okay especially the fish. I don’t really like the bones in the fish but still ate some of it. The lemonade drinks were delicious and the sides. The Mac and cheese were okay as well. I’m pretty sure they have other foods that tastes just as great or better. May come back again

I’ll say I was very disappointed. The food itself is extremely salty. The turkey wings were so salty I could not eat them. The portions are small for the pricing. Eliminate the salt and you’ve got a great product with the exception of giving your money’s worth.

Allow me just to start out by saying I can appreciate the fact that this is a small business, woman-owned, and minority-owned. However, if you're stating you open up at a certain time you should open up exactly at that time. I feel that I was slightly disappointed because the food to me did not align with some of the reactions & rave online. 🍗 The Fried Crack Chicken was good had a nice little crunch - the powdered sugar mix "crack" or whatever it may be, it's different but not over the top good, the Mac & Cheese was mushy, the green beans are definitely not fresh - they were mushy... It was giving canned green beans vibes. The potato salad is what I was disappointed about the most... I could be wrong, but the Potato Salad absolutely did not taste homemade at all!!!!!! The potato salad literally taste store bought and perhaps they add their own additional seasoning. The rap music is way too loud you have to repeat yourself several times to the cashier taking your order. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed at all but many others are. I wouldn't return.

I really wanted to support a local business, but this was by far one of the worst food experiences I’ve ever had. The food itself was extremely salty and honestly not worth the price. I spent $60 for just two meals, and on top of that, they charged an extra $1 per meal just for using a card. To make matters worse, the sales tax in this area is 7.25% but they charged me 8.25%. That’s not just frustrating—it feels dishonest. Even though I was the first customer of the day, my food still took 40 minutes to come out. For reference, they charged $27 for fried shrimp with two sides—which is outrageous for the portion and quality I received. I really try to give small businesses a chance, but experiences like this make it difficult. Between the long wait, the over-seasoned food, and the inflated prices/fees, I left disappointed and feeling ripped off.
