After spending the morning walking around The Frick Museum, my wife and I decided to venture down to Everyday Cafe. It was a somewhat cool and drizzly day, so a sandwich and soup sounded like the right idea. The cafe seems to be part of a larger enclave of businesses dedicated to social and cultural education and public outreach, though there was also a religious element to the messaging on the walls. We had no idea what kind of place the cafe was -- besides just being a cafe -- or what type of organization it was associated with, but it was a peaceful respite on a cold day and the employees were very nice.
I had a ham and cheese panini with a cup of chili, and my wife had chicken and rice soup. The panini was good, somewhat standard as these things go, but the chili was really excellent. It had a bit of a kick to it but was not overpowering at all. The blend of spices and other ingredients was just right, and I easily could have eaten another cup of it happily. My wife's soup was also quite tasty, and she was happy to have gotten it. Before leaving, I ordered a double espresso, which hit the spot before going back out into the drizzle. We noticed as we were leaving that a small group of women were gathering for a weekly poetry reading and writing workshop. The space is perfect for that type of event.
I don't remember what else was on the menu, but I recommend Everyday Cafe if you're in the area and want a good soup and sandwich.
