Joe Biden Crushed Spaghetti and Meatballs at This Chicago Restaurant | Eater Chicago

"The longtime Noble Square nightclub Evil Olive is still “voluntarily closed” following the late-August shooting of its bouncer; aldermen will hold a hearing to investigate after the club was the source of 57 calls to 911 this year and 351 since 2015, though it could eventually reopen." - Daniel Gerzina

A fun hidden gem of a bar. They have live band karaoke on Tuesdays which is awesome! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Also dog friendly it seems? I saw one dog indoors and outdoors on the patio. Good service and plenty of drink options!

Google
Fantastic service and great advice on craft cocktails! They don’t just have your everyday drinks, they’ve got just about everything you could think of for craft beers and cocktails. We stopped in after hearing the food was great, and we’re so glad we did. For a local neighborhood bar, it has a nice upscale feel while still keeping a laid-back, low-key vibe. Definitely coming back!

Google
Impressive drink menu with some fun unique items. Loved the peanut butter old fashion, and they use a large ice cube! Food menu consisted of burgers, sandwiches and appetizers. Had the triple sampler, great chicken wings and quesadillas but the cheese sticks were burned. Lisa our waitress was friendly and did a great job of checking if we needed anything with good balance. Large with lots of tables and bar seats. Good amount of parking. Inside and outside seating. They were having karaoke the night we were there, it was a little loud and hard to have a conversation.

Google
This place was a surprise and a really good one. The food was excellent. My wife ordered the trash tacos and I ordered the chicken fried steak sandwich. This sandwich may be one of the best sandwiches I have had in a really long time. My wife said her tacos were excellent as well. Even before we finished eating we were talking about coming back so we could try something different. My only knock, the drinks were too strong but I don't know if this is really a knock😀

Len M.

Google
Stopped in for beers and burgers. Burgers were very delicious and the buns were extra amazing! Also had queso and chips and were pleased with it as well. Servers were very attentive and pleasant. Live music was a bit loud but we were able to find a table outside that worked for us. Will be back.

Google
Ive been wanting to try this place for a while. My son said he went yesterday and ordered a drink and was waiting to order food. He got his drink and waited about 30 minutes nobody ever came back to take his order. So he paid his drink and left. My husband and I went today and were there for about 10 minutes and nobody even offered us a drink so we left. They need help there its sad because I was so excited to try it out. When u walk in and make eye contact with the person working the bar, and not even a smile or hi we will be right with you makes a big difference on the experience. If you saw the video you must have seen how many times I looked back to see if anyone would acknowledge us at all.

Sonia R.

Google
We have been in here for years and finally want to express our love to our home bar. We feel at home here and love coming back weekends to have a great time. Emily and Stacha on Fridays make sure we always have a wonderful time. Oh, and the food is fantastic!

RC H.

Google
We aren't from San Antonio but recently moved here and were really excited about trying the food at this place. Once we got sat down at the bar we couldn't get the bar tender to acknowledge us. When he finally does we inquire about food for take out. I decided to buy 2 drinks since we were there for a meal to go. He brought drinks immediately and I told him we were ready to order and he walked away and never came back. We eventually flagged down a waitress to take our order which they didn't have menu items which were posted on menu. Short story long the food was terrible and my wife got sick within minutes of eating hers.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, tasty food and drinks. They had karaoke which was fun Their espresso martinis are some of the best I've had.

Yelp
Calling all Saints fans!!! Evil Olive is the place to be on Saints game day! They have raffles, a DJ and hookah to set the vibe right during the game. Service was good, considering the place was filled with people and very busy. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap, which was pretty good!

Yelp
Evil Olive is one of my wife's favorite bars, her and her work friends pick this place nine times out of 10. The bartenders are very friendly knowledgeable. The the food is also good. I suggest trying a hamburger or even fried cheese. If you need a quick place to drop in and have a beer or an old-fashioned, this is our spot.
google avatar

Ashley R.

Yelp
Second time here. Drinks are very good and they have friendly bartenders. Seems lk an older crowd that comes but it's a vibe.

Yelp
Not sure what happened to my original review. But this place continues to amaze me. They serve chicken fried steak to fish and chips to everything in-between. I've had great white Russians and old fashioneds here. Sometimes these drinks can be hard to come by made correctly. My chicken tenders were delicious. I haven't tried many other food items yet. They have karaoke on Wednesdays and Thursdays and the rotation is great. They also sometimes play Singo. I had fun guessing the song titles when they play the music. I've also been during live music nights and the bands I've seen have been pretty decent. I'm really impressed by the wide variety of food, drinks and activities at this spot. It's mostly casual attire to business casual. There is a decent amount of seating though best to arrive before 9pm for a good spot. The patio is nice as well. I've really enjoyed service from Celeste, Kelly and Rene. These are the main ones who've helped me with fast, friendly service.

Yelp
I went to watch the Cowboy game and had lunch and drinks. My bartender was Kobi. The service was prompt, and I was greeted with a warm smile and excellent service. EO has good food, reasonably priced drinks and a friendly crowd. I highly recommend EO and ask for Kobi!!

Andrew C.

Yelp
Cool place, great vibe but I was pissed, when I got there i bought 2 beers and 1 shot , after that the bartender refused to serve me because I bought those 3 drinks within 1 hour, felt super disappointed and disrespected whats worse was i only had 1 beer and the other beer and shot was for a buddy so we left and went to a better bar

Gerry L.

Yelp
First time at Evil Olive. Went for Happy Hour. Drinks and food excellent. Service was outstanding. Would recommend and will come back.

Yelp
I think the food was really great and the highest point of the night. The chicken was hot, crispy, crunchy, seasoned. The fries and tots were fresh, hot and delicious. Even the ranch tasted homemade. The menu is great IMO, I love the customizable options you can add to the sides. I would come back and try more of it. I'd say the place itself caters to a lively older/adult crowd of regulars. You're gonna hear some classic music and good vocals on karaoke night. They hired an enthusiastic and fun DJ. Lots of colorful lighting, basic high tops and tables, just comfortable and simple. Was a little let down that the service didn't care to cater much to us even after expressing it was our first time in. They were nice and competent just not overly warm or welcoming. Finally, the drinks were probably the true disappointment. They were very watered down/weak. And for the cost? I truly have a strong suspicion that there was no alcohol. My boyfriend even ordered a double after being disappointed with his first drink, and it just further solidified the lack of alcohol. We decided to just enjoy our meal and then head to our usual bar after. Overall, I'd say eat here for lunch or Happy Hour so you're paying a more fair price for the drinks, as opposed to dinner- like we did.

Yelp
Who doesn't love a good dive bar! we've been coming to evil Olive for more than a few years now and have a great time every single time. We've gotten to know a lot of the servers and the bartenders. They are all simply just amazing. We have the best time and we'll always come back to evil Olive. I do wish they still had live band karaoke, because that was the ultimate best!

Jesabel N.

Yelp
Usually love going to hear the music. I've been In recovery past 6 years, and was denied ordering a club soda or diet pepsi unless it was with alcohol. The soda fountain was down. So i watched my buddy drink his rum and coke while i had water. At first I thought it was a joke since we have had the same bartender before - but they stuck to the policy they made up. My friends were stunned and we left after realizing the audacity of this. Is it even legal?

Yelp
Great neighborhood sports bar! Extremely nice bartenders and regulars. They make a good burger too.

Melisa S.

Yelp
Great service!! Wonderful bar manager and bartenders. Best nachos I've ever had!!! Great value!

Alex P.

Yelp
I love Evil Olive so much. The food is sneaky good. You know what I mean. Like WAY BETTER than you'd think it would be, drunk or not. Kelli is the best bartender I have ever known in my life and probably will ever know. The quesadillas, the mozz sticks, the wings, the nachos, the sandwiches (all of them; I have had all of them) the burgers, everything is amazing. Everything. I will love this place until I die because the company, the vibes, the service and the quality are exactly what I need. I hope you always come to Evil Olive. I love this place.

Yelp
This is a fun Karaoke bar. Chill atmosphere and cool DJ/Karaoke. The bartender is nice, clean bathrooms (so don't mess them up), and just a chill place to be on a Thursday night or whatever to get through the week with friends or as a couple. Crowd is 30s+ (it seems), so it was just right for us but if you're on the younger side, it could still be fun. Rated 4 because it's just a good bar, nothing fancy but cool vibes.

Yelp
We found a hidden gem in visiting @evilolive_sa yesterday. Had great service, great food and drinks and great value! When I was searching on Yelp for restaurants with fish and chips, Evil Olive was among the ones with mention of fish and chips. We thought to try it. Dad and I shared a plate and my husband had his own plate. For $11.75, you get 4 pieces of fish! Since we ordered the entrée, adding a side salad was an extra $1! Drinks were all $1 off. Our margarita and well vodka drink were so reasonable. The only slight miss was the fried mushrooms. A bit too much batter there but the gravy was good. We enjoyed the outdoor seating. Kelly and Lisa were great servers. We'll surely be back. My husband wants to try their gator sandwich.
google avatar

Yelp
While the Evil Olive wasn't terrible, it wasn't good either. The tater tots were the saving grace (have them voodoo style ) as was the ranch dressing. The boneless buffalo horseradish chicken wings - actually nuggets - weren't terrible. The drinks were unimpressive, the beer was fairly cold. In general, Evil Olive isn't very clean and the kitchen could use some improvement - just a few tweaks and dishes could be really good. And I'm pretty sure you shouldn't leave the soda gun laying on the ice you are using for patrons' drinks. Ick.

Yelp
This is the greatest little neighborhood bar just like the one on CHEERS. Where the people all know your name, the bartenders and waitresses know what you drink and bring it to the table or your spot at the bar without even asking you. They have a great outside patio with plenty of picnic tables and space for folks to move around, and people can bring their pets, watch the latest sports game on TV's inside and outside and an all around great vibe. You can reserve space for special occasions. My only criticism, if that, would be that the food isn't always consistent. But everything else honestly outweighs that...and I'm mostly referring to the chips and queso when I say "food"! But regardless we still go there every Friday and sometimes every Wednesday like clockwork! The staff are the best girls (& guys) around! We love this great community oriented establishment.

Yelp
My partner and I went in on Father's Day and were disappointed the first millisecond we walked in. Our first sight was the poorly composed bartender taking a shot. Shortly once we sat down, we politely gained her attention to order- To which she responded to "give her a second" very rudely while she turned her attention to the individuals sitting next to us to tell a very *distasteful* and coarse joke (to put it lightly). She then had us repeat our very simple order for 2 draft XX for no reason other than to be rude and remind us she was in charge. We continued to be nice to her despite the many unpleasant interactions and she seemed to change her tone towards the end of our visit. I definitely won't be visits this joint again since not one pleasant thing came of it.

Yelp
This is a great place to listen to live music and have a few drinks. Bring your friends and make a night of it. The bartender were great and so welcoming. I'll be back soon.

Yelp
Went here for a Saints Game which was pretty cool to see a place dedicated to the team! Drinks were good and priced great! Food was okay as well. It was really packed so you can see the bartender were definitely stretched thin but not to where you saw a drop in service. It was a really good environment for the game! Would definitely go back there to watch any sport as there are plenty of TV's both inside and outside! Will be back in the future.

Yelp
Wanted to try a new place, decided on Evil Olive... it is a sports bar, which is ok. We visited on Saturday, 12:30pm Wasn't to busy. They don't have a big selection of draught beer, certainly "zero" of domestic. Ordered Fried pickles and chips and salsa. Fried pickles were very "cakey " like. Thick and no seasoning. The breading on the inside was somewhat wet/raw if you will. Served with remoulade sauce, which was smoky flavor . The chips were great and fresh. But, now hold on--- the salsa isn't salsa( well not what we are used to. It is sweet and looked like and tasted like marinara sauce! It was very strange. We ordered a fried jalapeño because we were looking for some heat in salsa. I should have taken my own, but we decided to get out of the box and try a new place. Sad to say, this will not be a repeat visit. Service was good and the place looked clean, that's why I'm giving 2 stars.

Yelp
Bartender didn't make the simple drink like a margarita right and they allowed vaping inside Not sure f it was allowed but not my Scene Was hoping to get it a better review

Yelp
Fun place all the bar tenders were awesome except the one pictured. Extremely rude and had an attitude. There was a chair near the bar station and we took a seat. She rudely said" you can't sit there, that's why there isn't a chair there". Well sorry but there were 2 chairs there. Maybe make things clear, with a sign or something?? Otherwise the other wait staff were awesome!

Yelp
This is a fun little neighborhood bar, with more than 10 TVs for your favorite sports games, two electronic dart boards, one pool table, and a couple of video arcade games. There's a small stage for music or a DJ. They don't have table service. You have to order you food at the bar, but they will bring it to your table when it's ready. The only problem with this, is sometimes there is no bartender available if you are looking to quench your thirst. They have about 6 beers on tap. Guess who the chef in the kitchen is! None other than Kris Martinez from the infamous Rocker Dogz: Gourmet Hot Dog stand of yester year. His menu here ROCKS, and some of it is inspired by his former creations. For example, check out the Bella Bleu Burger, based on his Bella Blue hot dog from years ago. Gorgonzola bleu cheese, applewood smoked bacon, mustard, and a red wine onion reduction sauce. You just don't find food of this quality and flavor in establishments like this. Come here for the food and enjoy the beer and games as a bonus. But again, Kris knocks the food out of the ballpark here. Another favorite of mine is a holdover from his "way back" days are the "Tricked Out Tator Tots." You have GOT to experience these before you die! They are tator tots drizzled with a magically flavored sriracha mayo, Parmesan cheese and secret herbs and spices. Kris also contributed to the success of the DogFather and another restaurant in San Antonio for some time. You have to follow this dude around town and enjoy his creative culinary creations. He is an AWESOME chef - and I mean that - he is a CHEF! Mainly burgers at the Evil Olive that range between $8 and $10 but they have a few appetizers as well. If Kris ever brings the hot dogs back again, you MUST try the Thai Kickboxer - that was my favorite from back in the day. But it has been many years since I had one. Bottom line - Evil Olive is a great place to have fun - but Chef Kris is what makes it THE place to go to!

Yelp
The few times I've been has been a great experience and I've had a lot of fun especially if there's a band playing. Our server was great and attentive. If I lived closer I'd make this one of regular go to places.

Dan A.

Yelp
The appetizers are delicious we ordered the samplers . The service was excellent people are friendly. Happy hour 6-8pm in a min I strip parking is good and a patio is not smoke free comfortable scenery is roomy yes we will be back and tell our gang I
google avatar

Megan J.

Yelp
A girl friend of mine suggested this place to come and hang out. And I'm glad I did. The bartenders are really great. They are friendly and quick with the drinks. Happy hour is daily until 8 pm. The food is good and so are the drinks. The old fashioned were fantastic! I'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Paige L.

Yelp
Great place to grab an afternoon bite to eat and a craft beer. Very welcoming and chill atmosphere. I have not been when they have live entertainment but I would presume it is more of a bar vibe in the evenings.
google avatar

Trish T.

Yelp
The bartender are rude last time I go there. Wanted to order a drink went up to the bar she told me to go sit at a table and she will get to me after 5 people I was like what then I ordered them she took longer to bring us out drink yeah no yo can keep the drink go elsewhere
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
My husband got a refill on his beer and was given the same glass; I thought this was very weird. Never been to a place where they do that before. Needless to say that was our last drink. Also, when I saw the bartender making a mixed drink, she touched the ice with unwashed hands. We will not be coming here again. The jalapeño poppers were definitely just ok.
google avatar

Capri S.

Yelp
Definitely a hidden gem. Has a casual, hole in the wall vibe but the food was good and plenty of places to sit.
google avatar

Monica G.

Yelp
1st of all, not sure who or why I thought I was in my 20's again...cucumber martinis got me good! A little too good because of the wall hugging I was doing once I got home and settled (uber, because you know...responsibility) Anyway, the martinis were tasty. About 3 in it was time to order the worst thing ever...fries! But omg their fries were yuuuum, or maybe I was just too many in ‍ The bartender and our waitress were friendly and attentive. But just know if you're not a regular... karaoke night is a sham! I thought I was going for some classicly horrible karaoke, errrrrr wrong. Apparently it's San Antonio's got talent and I ain't it! Even the MC was good I would go again! Go enjoy a random or not so random nights at your local bar!

Franklin B.

Yelp
Went there on a Friday with my best bud for one of our weekly Happy Hour. The Evil Olive is "typical neighborhood bar". It was clean and welcoming. The waitstaff is very engaging and helpful. Drinks were great, cold and dressed. Our snacks, mushrooms, quesadillas, and wings were excellent. Would recommend for drinks either friends at a pleasant bar.

Lonzo H.

Yelp
Nice place. Live band was great. Fun place to dance. Middle age crowd when I went on a Friday night.

Scott W.

Yelp
Great chicken wings! Service was fast and friendly. I can see why our city council men hang out here.
google avatar

Kathy T.

Yelp
Was out to dinner near Evil Olive and decided to stop and check it out. The employees were friendly. The establishment was clean. The drink prices were reasonable. Was told they have a DJ, live bands, and karaoke on certain days. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Victoria R.

Yelp
So. This place is freaking a GEM! Heavily heavily recommend. Went on a Sunday because I could ya know? Lemme tell you the bartender, Derrick, was PHENOMENAL! Cannot tell you enough how amazing he was. He was the best bartender I could ask for. Very knowledgeable and made me the best WHISKEY sour I've ever had. They have darts, pool, and a few more games. It's very much a "bar" that you picture when you're thinking of a bar to hang out at.
google avatar

Kassie M.

Yelp
I visited this bar on Easter Sunday. There were lots of regulars. Crowd was a bit older. I Only had a few drinks & They were pretty delicious. I had a mangonada margarita & an angry chihuahua. Both were very strong and flavorful this was my first time here and I live so close by, I wish I had gone sooner. Bartenders were nice and I asked for a recommendation for my 2nd drink (angry chihuahua) and I was pleased. Come here for a good drink and friendly people. There is nice outdoor seating, bar seating, & high tops. I was very surprised by my bill too! Definitely recommend for reasonably priced couple of drinks.
google avatar

Khian R.

Yelp
Came in for The Who Dat fish fry. The bartender recommended a few drinks to us that was really delicious. I suggest you try the Lemon Raz Martini. The drink was delicious and perfect amount of alcohol. I was able to have three and that was enough for me. This is a nice place to hang with your adult friends to eat and enjoy food music. Nice mature crowd and space for dancing . There's also plenty of room outside to listen to the music and have drinks .

Savannah S.

Yelp
Jalapeño poppers were AMAZING! All food was great. Drinks were terrible though. Very watery taste. Bar tenders were professional and friendly.
google avatar

Latia R.

Yelp
The Dj does a good job at touching every genre of music. He pretty good with the crowd. He's my favorite part on a Friday night. On the other hand service sucks really bad. You wait forever just to get the bartenders to notice you. I waited forever and wasn't done my order before she hoped to another person. The food took forever to come out and to be honest 14$ on a fish and shrimp platter is reasonable. But when the cut the fish and don't even give you a whole filet is wrong. The shrimp was good and that's about it. The fries was salty. The salad was a very small portion. It's completely a rip off. They also messed up our whole order.
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
A Nice hole in the wall bar with reasonably priced drinks, & a live band. The band was enjoyable, & entertaining
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Great burgers & Derrick is an amazing bartender, I asked him to make a French 75 & he didn't blink His old fashioned was fanfuckingtastic!!!

Norma R.

Yelp
It has been a minute since coming to this place! Music and service was good. Only down fall was the man intensely vaping at the bar. Caused irritation to eyes and hard time breathing in a confined area
google avatar

Andrea G.

Yelp
Came here for a meet and greet with Chef Mary Lou from Hell's kitchen! This place is a cute little hangout. It has some high top tables inside, and picnic tables outside with plenty of shade. They have lots of craft beers to try. Try the "swifty" if you like IPA's. We also tried the beef nachos, but the real star was the buffalo bone in wings. Place is clean and inviting. Staff was very attentive.
google avatar

Katie J.

Yelp
Decided to try this place because we were nearby. I asked the bartender what's good and said I'm a mojito person. She said she was gonna make me a fruity mojito and oh my goodness it is the best mojito I've ever had. Just the right amount of everything. We also got the sampler plate and it was really good, the prices here are great too

Yelp
So this evening, my bereaved family, enjoyed the cool temperatures at evil olive. The patio was calm and the bartender/attendant very professional and attentive. Unfortunately we encountered a "regular" attendee WHO EXPOSED HIS GENATALIA. Unfortunately the management thought nothing of the predicament even though this particular person had made patrons uncomfortable with his presence. NO 1 CARED. BEWARE OF THE OLD MAN EXPOSING HIMSELF.
