Charcoal-grilled Greek dishes with signature courgette fritters
"Trying to pry yourself away from Evi’s is like wading through the thick chilli jam drizzled on top of your halloumi slab: almost impossible. Most people stumble into this East Dulwich spot, going full moth at the flickering candles and perfect chips. In the back booths, groups order gluggable Greek wine and towards the front, where it’s slightly lighter but still comfortingly cave-like, laid-back (read: last-minute) Tuesday date nights are sponsored by herby dips. Just book ahead at weekends." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley
"Visibility level: Golden like a bubbling fat fryer Evi’s has an amber radiance to it that only lovely little neighbourhood restaurants with sublime chips can have. It’s an East Dulwich Greek favourite that masters the correct lighting for oversharing as well as it does vibrant pickles and skewers of pork." - jake missing
"Trying to pry yourself away from Evi’s is like wading through the thick honey drizzled on top of your halloumi slab: almost impossible. Most people stumble into this East Dulwich spot as walk-ins—going full moth at the sight of flickering candles and perfect chips. In tucked-away, back booths, groups order gluggable Greek wine that threatens 9am meetings. And towards the front, where it’s still comfortingly cave-like, Tuesday gossip sessions are sponsored by life-affirming courgette fritters." - sinead cranna, jake missing, rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley
"If you love Greek food but usually find yourself hiding under a parasol and doing your best vampire impression while on holiday, you’ll love Evi’s. Lit solely by flickering candlelight and the glint in people’s eyes when they catch sight of these chips, it’s a laid-back neighbourhood spot in East Dulwich with a den-like feel. The flavourful, hand-cut fries here have a herby seasoning that’s heavy on the oregano. Pair them with pork skewers and a glass of white wine if you want to fully live out your Mykonos fantasies." - jake missing, sinead cranna
"Not only is this a very bad photo of very good fritters, but there were three and I was too greedy to wait to photograph them all before eating. I could smell these fritters before I saw them—wafting towards me in a herbaceous, minty cloud. They were crisp and bronzed on the outside and salty with feta inside, with finely chopped courgette keeping them—sorry in advance—moist. Alternating between these, a salad, and chips was the perfect way to spend a rainy, grey evening at this Greek spot in East Dulwich.” - SC" - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
