Rock Stars: the incredible cave hotels of Cappadocia

"Just off the main square of ancient, sleepy Ortahisar, Exedra Hotel occupies a clutch of stone homes and grotto-like caves carved from the malleable earth. There’s a fascinating contrast between the coarse austerity of the stone and the inviting goose-down bedding, and all the rooms enjoy inspiring views of the surrounding terrain. Speak to the concierge to arrange a hot-air balloon tour — it’s one of the best ways to see Cappadocia’s landscape." - MICHELIN Guide

We stayed at Exedra Hotel for two nights and had a truly wonderful experience. The hotel’s layout felt like a maze—in the best way possible! We really enjoyed wandering through the charming corridors and stairways, and were genuinely impressed by the unique and stunning architecture. Our room was spotless, well-equipped, and very comfortable. Everything was clean and perfectly maintained. The breakfast buffet was also fantastic, with a wide variety of delicious options. Everything we tried was fresh and flavorful. If we ever visit Cappadocia again, we’ll definitely choose this hotel again. Highly recommended!

Exceptionally rude staff. Bellboy was outright saying things like 'Don't bother me. Don't ask me' when we asked for basic assistance. Jacuzzi and Sauna wasn't working during the entirety of our stay. Housekeeping was an absolute joke. Only replaced the towels, readjusted the bedsheets and left. No sweeping or mopping, no taking out the trash. The structure of the cave itself was also cracking and left crumbs on the floor. We called the reception to send someone to take care of it, but were just left waiting. If you are only looking for a pretty spot for your instagram pictures, you got it. But if you actually look forward to the services and hospitality provided, you will be left utterly disappointed. We also bought tour packages from them after carefully looking at their itinerary and confirming that they were places we hadn't visited on our own. (Didn't want to repeat the same locations). On the day of the tour, we were taken to completely different locations from what was advertised to us (places we had already been on our own and were purposely avoiding repeats). Wasted an entire day of our trip and left us feeling absolutely helpless with no compensation offered.

Beside the fact that the hotel have a great view and rooms nice. The service is really bad for the kind of appearance the hotel have. The breakfast is really poor, no sliced fresh fruits , no scrambled eggs (only at 9:30 onwards) but the main issue is the no one speaks English and therefore the communication is really difficult . A lot of potencial without service.

I HIGHLY do not recommend this hotel to anyone coming to the Cappadocia area. The staff here are very rude. Their rooms are average and riddled with issues (hot water not working, etc.) Most importantly, they sold us misleading tour packages. We made the grave mistake of booking a museum tour with them. in the package they told us we will be visiting goreme open Air museum so based on that we scheduled our other days around that. On the day of the tour we find out that the tour plan is actually completely different from what we were informed and insufficient compensation was provided despite us being mislead. Please avoid this ridiculous hotel.

It was the best experience I’ve ever had. The whole staff members behaved sincerely and politely. The hotel also provides some exciting activities that one must do and see. If you want to fulfil your satisfaction level in a hotel, this is the one you will have.

1. Many Terrible steps to get to room or to dining area. Finding the breakfast area was a hide and seek experience without clear signs or helpful staff. 2. Mosque call to pray woke us up at 10pm and again at 4am everyday! Terrible time trying to sleep here. 3. Euros which ware accepted as legal tender everywhere else was refused in those hotels because it was not the latest series of printed Euro currency !

Exedra Cappadocia Hotel is an absolute gem in the heart of this magical region. The blend of history, luxury, and comfort is truly exceptional. The rooms are beautifully designed, offering stunning views of the unique Cappadocia landscape. The staff is incredibly attentive, making sure every detail is perfect. Special thanks to Ms. Cansu in the restaurant for her warm hospitality and exceptional service—she made our dining experience unforgettable! The food was delicious, with a variety of local and international options. If you’re looking for a serene and unforgettable stay in Cappadocia, Exedra Cappadocia Hotel is the perfect choice. Highly recommended!

This is a very artistic hotel as it was built from the caves in Cappadocia. Each room has a different shape. There are a lot of spots for photo taking with three cats that always want to join your photo session. The rooms and bathrooms are nice and clean. We came in Autumn and the weather was quite cold, but the room was nicely heated. The staffs are friendly and helpful. They can also speak in English which is a plus if you stay in Turkiye. The food is okay though some of the local delicacies might not suitable for the taste buds of Asian travelers. It would be better if the hotel gave an explanation card for the food served and how to mix and match them. As this hotel was built out of caves, there is no elevator except the one to the restaurant on the top floor. The hotel staff will help you with your luggage during the check in and the check out. However, you need to climb down a lot of stairs to go to the dining hall so this hotel might not be suitable for older people. Overall, we had a nice stay in this hotel.
