"Flashy sports (betting) bar Expat made a long-awaited debut last week inside Western Market, just in time for March Madness season. The 8,000-square-foot hangout specializes in Southern-leaning spins on bar food with playful drinks and plenty of tap lines. Patrons can compete in an opening bracket to win free beer for a year." - Tierney Plumb

They screwed up my bill and put an automatic $20 charge to my tab before I ordered anything, I returned the next day and asked the manager to look into my tab but all he did was giving me another number to call his upper manager who’s not there. He explained that it was probably a mistake by the bartender at the time but couldn’t figure out an solution to anything. I thought the automatic $20 charge for my tab would be deducted or refunded after my tab is closed but it didn’t happen. There is also an automatic 20% service charge that they never informed us of on the menu or any signs in the restaurant followed by an extra page for tips in the receipt so I paid even more for tips. In the end I ended up spending $50 for 2 burgers.

Yelp
Cool bar located within a food hall near GW. A lot of TV's, seating, and games like beer pong and cornhole. Came here after a rec volleyball game just to grab a bite and some drinks. Food was decent and really just enough to fill you up or share with the group. Service was timely although we had multiple orders brought to our table that weren't ours. Overall, a good environment and pretty spacious. Would come here again for sure!

Yelp
This is a nice addition to Western Market for several reasons. Starting off with sports viewing, there are lots of TVs everywhere and the staff cares about helping you watch the event you want. Big shoutout for switching a TV to the Tennis Channel for the Miami Open for me! The food menu leans heavily toward barbecue, included all over their starters, sandwiches, plates, and salads. I shared a plate of Smoked Brisket Spring Rolls that were really good! Drink menu has your choice of wine, beer, and cocktails that are decently priced for the area. We sat at the bar the whole time and the staff was friendly. For 8pm on a Friday, the place was not busy at all. It's a wide open space below the main floor of Western Market. I was told the GW kids come much later and into the night there is a DJ. I do like Expat as a meeting place to hang out with friends. I think it's good for any size group.

Yelp
Great sports bar with great food. I'm glad there's another option for a sports bar in the foggy bottom / west end area. I really liked their pork sandwich and apps and dessert were great too.

Yelp
I heard about this place and wanted to try it out. We came here on a Thursday and they have two levels so we decided to go downstairs. One weird thing was the beers on tap were not on the menu so we did not see how much they were which was strange since they were it was cheaper than buying the can which is fewer ounces on the menu. The worst part was even though we were inside in the basement a fly flew into my drink and when I went back to the bar they said "it is not our responsibility for bugs flying into your drink". Needless to say terrible service on top of the bad prices. Plenty of other places to grab a drink in the area so I would just pick somewhere else to go.

Yelp
They had two menus online, but none at any tables to differentiate which was the correct menu. When we asked for a martini, the bartender said they were too busy, even though there was no one else at the bar. Our food orders got all mixed up twice, and when it finally came, the chips were half-cooked. We tried to get fries, but they were out. The food was way too expensive for the quality, especially that chicken sandwich with a hole in it. The atmosphere wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't a typical sports bar. If I could give it less than one star, I would.

Yelp
Fantastic Find! Expat is a hidden gem! Cozy ambiance, friendly staff, and a diverse menu that blends international flavors with local ingredients. The happy hour was outstanding, and the cocktails were expertly crafted. Highly recommended for a great happy hour/night out!

Yelp
Burger was really good! The bar tender Rodney & Gator were great! Mixed drink was great!

Yelp
Best sports bar in Foggy Bottom West End! It's a challenge to find a place to watch sports and get delicious food, but Expat delivered on both! Tons of TVs with every game on, yummy food and appreciate they are open late. There are games in a separate room to play and great happy hour (all day every day). Loved and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Great place to watch sports, eat tasty food and enjoy cold adult beverages! Amazing service too!

Yelp
Food and drinks were really bad, objectively. Whatever was going on there was seriously concerning. Service was fine but they didn't bring silverware or waters for a long time. This is not a game bar, it is a bar with one pong table in the back.

Yelp
all around no so good had to ask for a server, the one cocktail we got tasted bad and had no presentation, food was mid at best, and something needs to be done about how bright it is. would go back for a midnight beer in a pinch but nothing more

Yelp
Such a fun spot! DC has been needing more sports bars and this place offers an incredible, spacious area with tv's on every wall. The eggs rolls were incredible and you can't beat their $5 Modelos on draft all day everyday. Can't wait to come back!
