We celebrated our anniversary here last night sitting at the bar and overall, we really enjoyed ourselves. I would give this place 5 stars if referencing their happy hour menu which is one of the best I’ve seen in the city. The quality of food and cocktails for half the normal price is so worth it and was a great surprise (we didn’t know initially that it was happy hour). We ordered the steak skewers, honey shrimp, lemon ginger salad, and the main entree of sweet and sour chicken. When our food arrived, we didn’t have silverware and that always tests your patience the most.. great food in front of you but no way to eat it. The steak skewers & their flavor were out of this world. The shrimp had a delicious silkiness/buttery texture to it. Our cocktails were good but we would not pay full price for them. Overall, we would come back for happy hour and did enjoy our time.

Google
Evan did a great job! Drinks and shrimp tempra sushi are amazing. Enjoyed pepper steak. Ginger salad would not recommend. Lamb chops offer an experience on a sizzling bbq but wasn't hot so didn't make sense why it wasn't smoking when it it came out! Overall would go back as we enjoyed the atmosphere!

First time coming to Zuzu and highly impressed! Our server Que was nothing but amazing. She walked us through the menu and suggested many great things. Sushi was fresh and delicious along with the garlic noodles. Everything tasted great and will defiantly be back.

Google
What a great experience, our server Rosario provided exceptional service. The drinks were bubbly and fun, the food was great and the atmosphere was perfect. What a great place for a date night or gathering. Our water glasses stayed full, our belly’s were happy and we stayed for quite awhile after paying our bill and never got the feeling of being rushed out. I really enjoyed my experience here with my husband and friends. Thanks Rosario and crew for providing an exceptional experience.

Google
Long but necessary review! We were so excited to try this place with high hopes and we were sadly disappointed. Just was there last night (6/23) for an 8pm reservation, whoever i talked to on the phone was super nice but the waiter we got was so un personable! I worked in a few restaurants growing up and it’s important to be personable with your customers!! We spent well over $600 with the automatic 20% gratuity, which is fine because i typically tip more than that anyways. But he acted annoyed when we asked questions and right from the bat gave me a “i’m better than you” vibe. I’m being totally honest. What really got me was at the end when we paid he rushed over to grab the bill and snatched it from the table and asked if we were done and i politely said yes we are and you good thank you so much! I was nothing but polite the whole time even with the vibes being off but he snatched up the bill and walked away DID NOT SAY THANK YOU ONE TIME! He acted like we weren’t going to pay? I’m wearing a 20k watch give me a break, idk what his problem was. It was my son’s birthday and he didn’t even say happy birthday! We did get the free bday dessert but i got one for him thinking we weren’t getting one because their was ZERO COMMUNICATION, he did not mention the free one so we ordered one, which is whatever i guess. But this whole thing is mainly about the inside staff, nobody said thank you, have a good night, drive safe NOTHING!! I don’t expect much but a thank you have a good night is a standard i feel! Then again on our way out i walked by him and said thanks again and AGAIN NOTHING!! i know he heard me. So for that reason and that reason alone we won’t be returning and i told some friends who were about to go not to because the service was not up to par! Nobody came by to check on our table nothing, no smiles from staff, just noses in the air. I’ve dined at some of the best restaurants in Detroit, in Michigan and in the United States and never have had somebody not tell me thank you! Rubbed me WRONG, especially when we spent $600 for 3 people?! Insane. Atmosphere was decent not as cool as i saw on IG but it was light out, and food was good, took a while but it’s to be expected i suppose? Nicest people were the valet guys! Shout out to whoever was working Valet the night of June 23rd, it was the fireworks and even with all the commotion they still were so nice and polite! I wish i could remember names because they deserve praise and were on top of helping us get out of the car and back in. Should pay your valet more because they are the first people that you see and they killed it with kindness verses your horrible stuck up waiter staff. Guy that helped us was white and smaller i can’t remember his name but hope that helps, maybe you can tell him to say thank you to customers! Make sure you don’t get him if you go! Won’t be back.

Becel D was an absolute treasure for our experience today. He had many great suggestions, and made our time here so wonderful. He is incredibly knowledgeable and his smile lit up the room the entire time. We will definitely be back

We had a great first visit to Zuzu and we'll definitely be back! Tiffany was a wonderful and very professional server! She guided us to the best dishes on the menu! We appreciated her attention to detail and timing of the courses. We ordered the walnut shrimp appetizer, sweet and sour chicken, miso sea bass, Brussels sprouts, tiramisu (received a birthday presentation too - I was so fun!) and drinks which were delicious! Overall, it was a fantastic evening! Thank you for helping us celebrate Pat's birthday!

Google
Great experience, will definitely have to go again and try more! My waitresses knew we were celebrating a birthday and the she came out with dessert! The atmosphere and vibe was the best part. Though the table we had was very cramped and small. The Gyoza we had to start us off was definitely the best thing we ate that night. The sea bass tempura was good aswell. The rolls weren’t anything crazy, they were good don’t get me wrong but I’ve definitely had better.

Yelp
ZuZu is an absolute gem! The salmon and California roll were perfection--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The ambiance was elegant and welcoming, and our server Caitlynne made the experience even better with her attentive, friendly service. She truly went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. Highly recommend for a special night out!

Caitlynne B.

Yelp
Everything about this place was absolutely amazing, service ambiance all of it!!!!! From the time I walked in the door Sarah greeted me at the host stand and was so helpful with all the questions I had. She also recommended I get a chocolate martini the bartender Anthony was great makes the best drinks!!

Dean D.

Yelp
Had dinner at Experience Zuzu tonight. Our service Caitlynne was great. Her service was excellent. The manager Stephanie was also great. Made sure our visit was memorable. The food was delicious. I will definitely be back. I highly recommend coming here.

Yelp
Very cool ambiance and decor! I love the color scheme and lighting. Lovely outdoor patio to enjoy in the warmer months. Fun music and party vibes. Excellent service from Allie and great recommendations. The cocktails are delicious! I enjoyed the Japanese Whispers. Very crisp and refreshing. My friend really enjoyed the What We Do Is Secret cocktail. It looks really cool and bubbly and steamy. The appetizers were good, but not amazing and felt overpriced. We shared the Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna and the Walnut Shrimp as our appetizers. The Walnut Shrimp has tempura rock shrimp and for my personal preference, the tempura was a little too thick. I've definitely had better crispy rice spicy tuna, but this was still good. For our main course we shared the Truffle Scallop + Asian Pear specialty roll and that was excellent. We also shared the Blue Fin Toro Tuna roll and that was a lovely explosion of flavor. I loved the spicy caviar crema. I would gladly come back and try other things. They have noodle dishes and steaks that look fabulous.

Yelp
Today was my second time going to ZUZU. This evening, the waiter spilled soy sauce all over my outfit. After realizing what that they had done, they offered me club soda for ME to attempt to clean my clothes. I LET THAT SHIT GO!! I know people make mistakes. They did not clean up the mess they made on the floor so my foot kept sliding in spilled sauce. Maybe 45 minutes later I got another spill on the shoulder of my sweatshirt from a waiter. I pointed the spill on my clothes out and the WAITER just looked at me like I was a stupid BLACK BOY. I LOOKED back. It was time for me to ask the lady what she was going to do about it. She said. NOTHING. I asked for the manager. She said , ILL GO GET THR MANAGER. I said OK. MANEGER came over and looked at me like a stupid BLACK BOY and told me to take shirt to the dry cleaners and come back and they would take care of the bill. SOY SAUCE ON A WHITE MICHIGAN STATE SWEATSHIRT. I said. IF I WAS WHITE YOUD BE FINDING A WAY TO COMPENSATE ME FOR THE ACCIDENT AND INCONVENINCE HE CALLED SECURITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ................ Please do not support ZUZU.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful place! Food was good -- the pad thai was my favorite, but everything I tried was yummy. Bartenders were quick and the drinks were good, though I do wish they had a cocktail list upstairs to make ordering something a bit more "special" easier. DJ was playing good music. Overall, a cool place to come with a big group of friends to end a fun evening downtown.

Yelp
Zuzu's was such a beautiful Birthday Dining Experience! Our Waitress Tiffany was soooo attentive, kind, and provided Top Tier Service! We'll be back soon! Xoxo

Yelp
We had the sea bass wraps appetizer, the shrimp tempura roll and the ny strip steak with asparagus on the side. The wraps were amazing, we polished everything. The service was ok. Also had 'all tied up' mocktail and it was good. It was annoying that server didn't bring plates and cutlery to table until we requested. Then steak was served with no knives and we had to wait awhile to flag our server down.
google avatar

Gabrielle G.

Yelp
The service was great, they personally placed the wagyu beef from the serving platter onto our individual plates which was a nice touch. The vibes reminded me of an old school Chinese restaurant that had been revamped and modernized. The food was a bit hit or miss.
google avatar

Maisha R.

Yelp
Went back here for a friend's birthday and had a wonderful time. We tried the sushi, grilled asparagus, wagyu gyozas and a main and loved them all! We were seated by the door on a colder night away from the main area after a longer wait which was not ideal, but we made the most of it!

Yelp
The restaurant is beautiful with vibrant decors. Spacious with 2 levels and an outdoor patio. The restaurant looks very high end and unique. Most of the items we ordered were delicious especially the sushi. The sushi was definitely fresh. We also order the lamb chops and sea bass which were our table favorite. However, the NY strip we order was dry for medium rare and not flavorful. Cutting into the steak, it looked medium rare but didn't taste medium rare. The sides were good and would complement a well season medium rare steak. Our food and drinks did take long to get your table, especially for the restaurant not being packed. Our server was nice and friendly but we felt we had to keep reminding our server on the missing food or drinks. She did asked us at the beginning if we're celebrating anything in particular and we were there to celebrate a birthday and running the half marathon. After our main meal, she asked if we wanted dessert but we declined (all of us pretty exhausted) but said she's bringing us out a complimentary dessert. Instead brought out our check. We put down our cards and paid. We waited probably for another 10 mins but nothing came out so we decided maybe she forgot and just left.

Yelp
First time here with friends and it was a lovely first experience. The food was delicious especially the toro roll, that was melt in your mouth. I didn't originally get that at first, but when I tried a friend's, I immediately had to order it for myself right after. I brought my husband home the sweet and sour chicken and he devoured it. The service was impeccable. The zuzu experience did not disappoint with the attentiveness and service. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was chic and great for date nights. It had this romantic vibe but also great for girls night!

Yelp
From the chairs, to the wall decor, to the light fixtures, to the velvet jackets, to the bathroom wallpaper, this place has built an instagram worthy ambiance. Unfortunately, the aesthetic was truly the highlight of the meal (and there are levels to even that if you're not in VIP seating). Outside of the water, which stayed full at the rate of a fine dining restaurant (I mean, never a sip missing), our server was not attentive and the service, overall, lacked much to be desired. Restaurant was also cold. The prices, however, are every bit of fine dining, which is what elevates the disappointment. Ultimately, it felt like the place had a bit of an "identity crisis". One example, the menu is a bit eclectic but doesn't really have something for "everyone", a miss, in my opinion. No edits or substitutions is the declaration but I don't believe this was clearly indicated. Someone in my group tried to create a vegetarian option from the shrimp fried rice, this was approved by the manager (nice!) but then came out with hidden shrimp... not a huge deal unless, of course, there has been an allergy. Cocktail menu was robust, can only speak to the mocktails, but for $13 the Lucky Chase was anything but Lucky. Large prices, poor portions, tastes lacking much to be desired...so why the three stars? I have to do right by the Shrimp Garlic noodles, while the price to portion held true the taste did its thing, 'Twas YUMMMM. If for any reason I was only eating that I needed some great backdrops for TikTok or instagram, and I had a need to stay hydrated, it might be worth the stop. Otherwise, this place needs a bit more time to work on the food portion of the dining before getting my recommend.

Yelp
Rachal is amazing. She should get a raise and zero extra responsibilities and endless comp meals for life. All cover charges should go direct to Rachal for the honor and privilege of being in her presence. When looking for additional staff Rachal able be the gold standard for hiring. Funny, witty, and strong she's a b-a-m-f and brings the party. She is beauty she is grace she'll wipe the bar rail with .... Something that rhymes with grace. On the non-Rachal side of things... ZuZu is for you. Go there. Eat. Drink. Be married to Rachal.

Yelp
*** Zuzu is an experience ... vibrant energy. *** This is a great choice for Friday/Saturday nights. Menu is prob best described as pan-Asian fusion. We enjoyed most everything. Wagyu croquettes appetizer and the Halibut entree were our faves. *** Love the outside bar. Place has pizzazz. ***

Yelp
Service: My friend wanted to check out Zuzu for her birthday dinner. We had reservations at 9:30pm. Arrived about 5 minutes before reservation, were told they had to clean the table off. We watched 5 parties get sat while we were waiting for a table to be cleaned. Ended up not getting sat till 10:10pm. We waited another 15 minutes to be greeted by a sever. There were 5 of us and 4 at the table ordered wine. It took another 20 minutes to get the wine. Ended up not getting food till close to 11pm. We got the bill and they had charged us 15 dollars more for the wine than listed in the menu. And there was an added 20% service charge that was not posted anywhere. They did bring us all a round of champagne due to the long wait and did take 15 off the bill due to the over charge of wine. However everyone in the party felt as if they didn't really care about the service they were providing. Food: the food was amazing and that's the only reason I'm giving this review 2 stars. If it wasn't for my friend's birthday we would have left. Everyone at the table loved their food and it tasted amazing. The shrimp sushi roll was very tasty, my friends got the shrimp pasta and the edamame was bomb! The cost of food/drinks was on the higher end. Overall wouldn't go back however it's a very cute place and the ambiance was very cozy and upscale.

Yelp
Such a wonderful birthday dinner for my beautiful partner. We were seated in the upstairs lounge, with its own dedicated bar and server. Wonderfully lush fabrics on the cushions, and a lot of fine detail. Even more so in the lobby and main restaurant. But this space above provided a lot of intimacy which we craved. We started with two Sailor Moon mai-tai's and they are served in a little Artemis cat cup with large dragon fruit flowers for ears. Very cute and very strong. For appetizers we selected the Crispy Spicy Tuna on Rice Cakes and the Scallop Sushi Roll (which had avocado and migrogreens) they were both very good. I dont usually like spicy mayo on sushi, but their blend was not overpowering or oversaturated. Blended perfectly. The Scallop was supreme and with a tiny drop of wasabi created the perfect mouthfeel. For our entrees, I selected the shishito + bell pepper steak along with a cup of rock shrimp fried rice. She ordered the braised short rib. The short rib came out immaculate. Shredded nicely, still had a bit of color, very tasty sauce. Had a little zesty salad on top. Served on a bed of fried rice. The Peppersteak was very good as well and served with saffron topped white rice. The peppers and onions were the perfect balance between crunchy and soft. The onions were heavenly. The rock shrimp fried rice was a total let down. It just tasted like char, the shrimp were incredibly small (almost unnoticeable) and i couldn't help thinking I was eating something off a children's menu. No nuance, looked generic, minuscule shrimp, tasted only of soy and char. that dish is a hard pass. And its odd because everything else was top notch the whole evening. Couldnt help but think id get three times as much better fried rice from a takeout joint for the same price. My partner sampled it too and was also not a fan. We both liked everything else.

Yelp
Zuzu has beautiful ambiance and decor. It can be a good option for a special date or celebration. The hosts are welcoming and there is a free coat check, which is a nice option to have. There is seating upstairs and downstairs. My friend and I were seated upstairs and it was more intimate than downstairs. The tables for two are small so keep that in mind if you want to order multiple plates. We ordered a few different dishes so we could try various options. We had Honey Walnut Shrimp, Zuzu Napa Salad, Rock Shrimp Lo Mein, Tempura Lobster, and Truffle Scallop Roll. Our favorites were the Honey Walnut Shrimp and Napa Salad. The Tempura Lobster was not flavorful and the Rock Shrimp were not cleaned well in the Lo Mein. These were disappointing because the prices are high. Overall, Zuzu is beautiful and the presentation is creative but the food is lacking flavor and the shrimp should be cleaned. If you love taking photos, this is a great place. However, the prices do not accurately reflect the quality of food. I hope this can improve over time.

Yelp
We came on a weekend when the food menu was limited however, the manager did a great job informing before we our reservation. The restaurant is beautiful inside. They did a great job with decor and atmosphere. The drinks were amazing. The food was tasty but the items I ordered were not my first choice. I would check it out again if the full menu is available.
google avatar

Walter S.

Yelp
This is place is ok. Over priced by a lot for what you get. The best tasting items are in the sushi menu. The appetizers are decent, but the fried rice and entrees are pretty flavorless. The ambience is cool and it's got a cool vibe. IMO this place is a poor man's Mon Jin Lau. Again it's overpriced.

Yelp
Haven't been to the city in a little while and was happy to find little traffic and a garage close by to park in! Came here on a Saturday with a reservation I made about 2/3 weeks ago to snag a prime time spot of 6pm. We were quickly greeted, asked if we preferred indoor or outdoor seating and were quickly taken to our table. I was happy to sit outside as it was unexpectedly cool but they had plenty of heaters! Also I noticed a lot of the staff constantly checking to make sure the temperatures were comfortable for all the parties outside. For it being right on Woodward I was surprised how nice the ambiance is, and how cozy the seating was for outdoor. Our servers name was Marcus he was attentive and very knowledgeable, he guided us through the menu giving suggestions and answering questions. We both ordered the sailor moon mai Thai. It was strong which was nice but the sugar got to me a bit. For our appetizers got the seabass ragoon which I can tell you has now ruined regular crab ones for me because these were so fresh and adding the kewpie hit the spot! For our entrees we had the Xinjiang Braised Beef Rib and the Caramelized Miso Seabass. Both dishes were plenty food between the two of us. The short rib was delicious and tender. And the Seabass I couldn't get enough of!! The caramelization on it made it to die for! The sauce paired very nicely with it. Looking forward to coming back here to try more of the menu.

Yelp
Could not wait to experience Zuzu. Our server was amazing! The ambiance is amazing however some of the food I would rate from good to bad! My drink and the tempura sushi will keep me coming back! I also liked that pineapple chicken! I hated the wagyu gyoza and the flavors of that Asian salad are super muted! I was expecting so much more! The chicken in that salad was way over cooked and tasted like nothing! We didn't eat any of it and we paid for it without making a fuss but it was really bad! My friend wasn't impressed with any of the food! Valet is $20 and your bill will be high so be ready! I don't mind paying good money for food because food is my favorite however for the money all the food should bang!

Yelp
We were super excited to come and check out Zuzu! If I could give 10 stars I would! This was a magnificent experience! Everything was done right! The outside was gorgeous as was the inside. Such a great vibe!! Zuzu offers both indoor and outdoor dining. We chose to sit inside at the bar. We ordered from their cocktail list and our drinks were delicious. We browsed over the menu and I kept coming back to the Wagyu filet. They offered 2 - 8 oz. I was going to get 2 ounces because I really don't eat much. But the bartender talked me into 6 ounces. I'm glad he did because I was able to share! The meat comes raw and you have to cook it on a hot cooking stone. It was so tender and delicious. I only needed to cook it for 30 seconds on each side because it was so tender and delicious! Well worth the cost. Overall this was a terrific experience! It's a pricey date, but sure to impress!

Yelp
We were here for our Anniversary Night this week and it was a very good experience! They are right in downtown Detroit between Christmas tree and the Renaissance Center. We got the "All Tied up" and "Strawberry Swing" as drinks - both non-alcoholic and to my surprise they weren't so artificial in taste - which was refreshing! For food we had Jalapeño Hamachi - it was delicious! My favorite dish was the Five Gold Curry! It was very well prepared. The Curry had a good taste and us being from India - we are very picky about our curry taste! My wife is a vegetarian so she ordered Garlic Tofu and Mushroom which is the only veggie dish on the menu. This would be one dish that has an opportunity for improvement and I would also recommend them to add some more veggie items on the menu or if they can provide options to modify any possible meat dishes to make it veggie that would be helpful for veggie customers. The people and the service here were very good. Everyone was polite and very presentable. The lighting and the atmosphere was very upscale and party like! *They offer Valet parking. ** Dont forget to take a picture next to their sign outside. It is very cool!

Yelp
The food was amazing! I had the Shrimp pasta and for an appetizer, I had Honey Walnut Shrimp! The service was great! Marcus made sure we were well taken care of and went through the menu items because it was our first time dining. The ambiance is soooo nice and it really gave me DC vibes. They have a lounge upstairs with a few booths. Very cute for bday parties or other celebrations. I definitely would come back while visiting home again!

Yelp
Ambience is very trendy and fun. Our table didn't need much but we were close to where the servers were so it wasn't hard to flag anyone down for assistance. Wouldn't recommend the chicken satay, it was unusually dry and they were kind enough to give us a second order of the chicken satay but it was also dry. Usually, a big fan of toro but their blue fin tuna toro roll was lack-luster for me as well as their gyoza. That being said, our favorites of the night are the caramelized miso sea bass and short rib. Tender and everything you want and expect when ordering sea bass and short rib. Cool restaurant for when you want to have a nice dinner and drinks with friends.

Yelp
Service top tier , ambiance stellar but food was lackluster for the price . I impressed my date but she was even impressed but the stellar service but the appetizers lack season and the drinks hit but the pasta was not it and I payed a pretty penny for this date but we didn't enjoy it but the drinks smacked and service great but that food wasn't worth it for the price for me ‍ I flew all the way to Detroit to take my girl out and then we had to go get food after we left . Disappointed but hey it was a Thursday night it wasn't so busy so expectation was high on my part .

Yelp

Yelp
Guys, I just had the most amazing dessert. Chef Eric recommended this dessert, and I can't believe that anything could taste so good. My server (Caitlynne) was out of this world. Way to go ZuZu! BTW: Stephanie (GM) is making this the place to be at....!

Yelp
A fantastic date night between Christmas and New Years at a new to us Asian Foodie spot! Our server Jasmine was on top of everything and had great recommendations on the Strawberry Martini and 11 before 10 mixed drinks. We went go a couple of rolls and dumplings but our favorites were garlic noodles with shrimp and sea bass lettuce rolls! Fantastic!

Yelp
One of the coolest new places in Detroit! It's near the river walk so you can go for a walk before or after dinner. The restaurant itself is pretty small but has such beautiful decor. It's warm red colors and has fun art work on the wall. There's bar seating, high tops, booths and regular tables. The staff was very kind and helpful. They were attentive but not coming by too often. The food was really good! We had one of the yellowtail rolls which was very fresh and flavorful. The meatballs were delicious and cooked perfectly. The tomahawk was really tasty but sadly overcooked a little bit. That was the only down side to this place. There were so many fun drinks to pick from. One we had was in a sailor mood cup which was so cute! Overall its a really yummy place and perfect for a date night.

Yelp
Very posh, hip, upscale atmosphere. The outdoor patio bar is even beautiful with black and white tile floor and a gorgeous view of the city. When we were waiting for our table, we could hear an opera singer in the background from a nearby show and it was hauntingly beautiful. The indoor atmosphere is equally stunning with murals, gold statues, red carpet, mirrored ceiling, and servers in red jumpsuits. Everything is adorned in shades of red, gold, purple, and black. The menus were in red leather binders and the silverware was metallic gold. There was also a DJ playing when we came. Service was very good and attentive. Our sever was knowledgeable and everything was brought out promptly. We received one dish incorrectly as we ordered something else but they quickly brought out the correct dish. We came a week after they opened and they also put us on a list to checkout the speakeasy Upstairs after our meal. While the atmosphere and ambiance are beautiful, the food was only mediocre and overpriced. This is a place I'd recommend coming to once for the atmosphere and posh swanky environment but I'm not rushing back since the food was not anything memorable or worth writing home about. The portions were very small and expensive for what you get. The flavor profiles weren't anything special. I'd probably recommend stopping in for a drink but maybe skip dinner. For food we ordered Ora King Avocado, Truffle Scallop and Asian Pear, and Bluefin Toro Tuna sushi rolls. All were just ok. The rolls were small, around $24 a piece. The Ora King was the best roll and the Tuna roll was my least favorite. We also got the Honey Walnut Shrimp, which was tasty. For drinks, I highly recommend the Sailor Moon Mai Tai. The drink was very tasty and the presentation is really cute in a Sailor Moon type of mug. The other drink that's pricey but I would definitely recommend is the 11, Not 10: Bespoke Double ZuZu Flask Cocktail. It's $28 but it's a pretty large drink and it comes in a gold flask that either says ZuZu or Upstairs and you get to keep the flask. It's a spin on an old fashioned and was very tasty, served in a chilled flask that you pour over a ZuZu stamped ice cube. Overall, come here for a classy night out but don't expect to be wowed by the food. The food is pretty underwhelming. Definitely a place to checkout once though.

Yelp
ZuZu Experience is worth the experience at least once. It won't be a cheap experience but most definitely Instagrammable and, for the most part, tasty. It starts right off the entrance - you can feel the vibe! The rich red colors, the decor, the wait staff red jumpers, nicely dressed patrons - you feel excited for the evening to come. Even the look & feel of the menu itself holds a promise of decadence. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. Service was good. Drinks were hit or miss - my friend had a lemon drop martini which she enjoyed, but 2 vodka gimlet were probably worst I've had. Food was good! Pepper steak dish was delicious, so where the chicken wings. My friends had salmon sushi and tuna and they said it was good as well. On the way out don't forget to take a picture with the big glowing Zuzu sign :). Just go! It's worth to experience zuzu.

Yelp
Gorgeous restaurant with very friendly and attentive staff. The food however is underwhelming. The best thing we tried was the beef skewer that came compliments of the chef. The salmon avocado tuna roll was very good, simple and fresh. The scallop roll was ok, overpowered by some kind of ginger sauce. The lobster roll did not feel fresh. The shrimp appetizer was overcooked. The plates are too big for the table size and they all came out at once and so there was no room for our individual plates..which made sharing awkward. Our bill was $100 per person. I think that would be ok if we were impressed by the food but honestly it's just a fun venue to see and be seen. I would come back for drinks.

Yelp
Love the vibe, love the food, love the drinks, love Zuzu! Smart details everywhere you go. I dined on a patio on a Friday evening (the beautiful weather helped) and it offered spectacular city views. Outstanding, professional service in all aspects of the dining experience. DELICIOUS food and great drink menu. The truffle bluefin was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. High quality bluefin tuna sprinkled with truffle salt was a tantalizing surprise to my taste buds! Considering I visited a week after grand opening, they ran out of a few items on the menu, which I was disappointed but they just need to figure out ordering enough food & beverage. The restaurant is a bit crammed and not as large as I would expect a restaurant of this caliber. Perhaps my only complaint. Looking forward to my next visit so I can sample the rest of the menu.

Yelp
Zuzu... TL;DR: So the ambiance is decent and the location is great. The food was just ok, nothing to write home about. To be honest, I prefer my local cheap takeout restaurants in comparison. Here's why: 1) I get what this place is trying to exude... the presence of bouncers (probably for the "Upstairs" bar/nightclub), the hosts at the entrance that give off the "I don't care" and "you're not on the list" club vibe (until you tell them you have a reservation)... they're trying to seem "cool" and "exclusive". This is reinforced by all the bottles of Armand de Brignac (Ace of Spades) on the walls and at the bar. They're appealing to a certain demographic. I get it, just not my thing. It's very Instagrammable, though, if that's your thing! 2) When we walked in, aside from the aforementioned, they immediately brought us outside... it was cooling down out and we were not planning on that (it's early May). When I made the OpenTable reservation, I wasn't asked about a seating preference. I mean, yeah, outside is a "cool" vibe, but we didn't want the cool temps. Plus it was somewhat windy. When we asked to be seated inside, they almost seemed genuinely inconvenienced by that request. They got us seated inside, but at THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE booth "thing" that I've ever sat upon in my life. They are the roundish booths off to the left when you walk in. Whoever thought those were a good idea should be fired. 3) As I said, the food was fine. And the drinks weren't bad (not amazing but not bad). But the prices? WOW. SUPER pricey for what you get. But that's the thing... the food is FINE. Not amazing. Definitely not spectacular! For those prices, it better blow me away. Which it didn't. I'll do a quick rating of what we got out of 5 points: *Rangoon Rangoon (2/5) *tasted like straight crab, not what I was expecting* *Golden Wagyu Croquettes (4/5) *although they were more "meatball" than "croquette"...* *Zuzu California Roll (3/5) *Lobster Tempura (4/5) *Ora King + Avocado (3/5) *Five Gold Curry (3.5/5) *Beef Yaki Udon Noodle (2.5/5) *Sailor Moon Mai Tai (3/5) *2 points for the creativity* *11, Not 10 (2.5/5) *Strawberry Swing (3/5) *pricy for a mocktail* 4) Last thing... the tip. I didn't know that the tip was already included in the bill, nor was it disclosed. That's a bit unusual for small parties (3 people). There was also no immediate indication on the bill that it was already included, which seems somewhat fraudulent. So I tipped 20% on top of the bill which already included tip. Let's just say the waitress got a great tip that night. I didn't really realize it until I did the math in the shower the next morning. The "11, Not 10" didn't taste the best, but it was definitely strong! Anyways, just be aware of that. If you're staying in downtown Detroit and want mediocre Asian food in a semi-neat atmosphere at a premium price, this place is for you!

Yelp
The food looks excellent. It was a little salty for my taste. The service was atrocious. I guess since we ordered waters we get to suffer from thirst all dinner while trying to push down the salt. The shrimp tempura had pineapple in it which completely threw off the taste. The restaurant looks cool tho.

Yelp
I visited for Happy Hour on a Friday. Is was not very busy, in fact they had just open. I got a Mai Tai off menu. I also tried the Honey walnut shrimp. A waitress stated they were good . I seen mix reviews, but they were pretty tasty. I enjoyed the food. The only complain was the waitress charge a few dollars more than the Happy Hour. We brought it to her attention and she made the correction . I noticed the same thing occurred to the people next to me. I was told the price was updated in system. Nice decor .

Yelp
Here for drinks. Great vibe. Sat outside. The bee problem is awful we honestly left because of it. The bar staff was very kind and fun to chat with. Do recommend. Right on Woodward. Little to zero parking- they do offer valet . I asked about the upstairs events and told, a booth could be anywhere from $200 to $3,000 not sure what that means and was provided little details. Be dressed up, if you come, you'd feel out of place if you weren't.

Yelp
Great ambience We started at the bar for some happy hour deals. Bartender was friendly and the drinks looked great! Moved to a table and received great service. Jasmine was so nice and they brought our friend a free birthday dessert. Check it out!

Yelp
Had a great Girl's night at ZuZu! First, our table was ready exactly at our reservation time, which got our visit off to a good start. Our waitress, Caitlyn (with 1 N) was very good. Friendly and proficient.....and her drink and food recommendations were spot on. Speaking of food and drinks, our table had Sailor Moon, 11 not 10, and Sei Less for drinks. For dinner we had Bass Rangoon, Pepper Steak, Rock shrimp garlic noodles, Rice noodle pad Thai, and Shinto Tone Filet. Even though I'm not particularly a fan of Asian dishes Everything was DELISH!

Yelp
