explora Valle Sagrado (Sacred Valley, Cusco) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Explora hotels tend to begin with locations that are flat-out extraordinary, places like Patagonia or the Atacama Desert. And then they create hospitality experiences that are equal to the setting, featuring inspired design, top-shelf comfort, and world-class service. Even within this tradition, however, Explora Valle Sagrado is something special — the sacred valley in question is the Urubamba Valley, at the end of which, of course, is no less singular a place than the Inca ruin of Machu Picchu." - Tablet Hotels

This Hotel in the Sacred Valley Is a Destination in Itself - Hotels Above Par - Boutique Hotels & Travel

"Set in Peru’s Sacred Valley on the grounds of an ancient hacienda and adjacent Inca ruins, this horizontally laid-out, organically shaped lodge melds with quinoa fields, river valley scenery and towering mountains to create a secluded, safari-style retreat. With just 50 rooms and an all-inclusive model covering meals, drinks, transport and a choice of more than 50 guided excursions daily, guests enjoy bespoke, small-group cultural and athletic adventures ranging from gentle spa days at the Pumacahua Bath House to strenuous mountain hikes, bike rides and visits to remote villages and pre-Inca sites; evenings commonly find guests and guides gathered in a large common room planning the next day over Pisco Sours. Rooms are large and cozy with deep soaking tubs and beds made for weary hikers, the spa occupies a soulful colonial bath house by the water, and the culinary program—conceived and led by Michelin-starred chef Virgilio Martinez—showcases locally sourced valley ingredients (sample adventurous offerings such as guinea pig). Emphasizing slow, deep travel rather than the typical Machu Picchu rush, the property feels intimate and immersive, is about an hour by train from Cusco and roughly 90 minutes by train from Ollantaytambo/Machu Picchu, and lists all-inclusive room rates starting near $1,000."

You know when you don't want to tell anyone about an especially nice stay so it stays reasonably priced and not too crowded? I was already prepared to be impressed at my second Explora Hotel after Rapa Nui, but the overall experience curated by Diego and his team surpassed expectation. This specific hotel supplies outstanding value while welcoming adventurers of all abilities including couples, serious hikers, and families. The all-inclusive concept allows each traveler to meet with a staff guide each evening to personalize their trip for the next day while enjoying meals designed by top world Chef Virgilio Martínez along with delicious local specialties and special events like telescopic stargazing and evening dance shows. Lactose free, pescatarian, gluten free? They will say "everything is possible." The rooms are clean and comfortable but idea is breathtaking nature, good food, and relaxed living creates luxury, not in-your-face Ritz Carlton extravagance here. Guest experience manager Luis maintains a strong culture of service where all team members are truly interested in creating your best stay. If you go, prepared to be awed by the incredibly varied natural settings, world wonders, and the many artfully selected excursions that always seem to have little unexpected surprises along the way (nb: most are about an hour away each day in a van, totally worth it, though). They will facilitate you taking a day trip to see Machu Picchu in a seamless way from here and it was good that we added on time in Cusco to adapt to the elevation for a day or two before. Be sure to include enough days at Explora for the many varied morning, afternoon and all-day activities and excellent spa. Their in-hotel shop is thoughtful and well priced for gifts and hiking supplies you may have forgotten and laundry was not outrageously priced. There are too many notable staff members to give a look out for but some include outstanding guide Darwin, waiter (Diego) Armando, Rodrigo at the front desk, and so many others who went out of their way to improve our stay in a meaningful way from management, guides, excursion drivers to housekeeping, just naming a few to look out for in no particular order- Josway, DJ, Lucito, JJ, David, Julio Caesar, Wilma, Moises, Anghel, Percy, Sandra, Claudia, Alessandra, Flavio, Clayton, Nelson, Leo. All my trips should be so enjoyable and I look forward to returning.

This was my second stay at the Explora lodge, so I expected excellent service and I was not disappointed. I was able to select the explorations that were aligned with my interests and level of fitness, and was fortunate to complete hikes in all three life zones accessible from the lodge (quechua, suni, and puna) at different elevations. I was traveling with my son, and he was able to go to challenging explorations that he was proud of completing. The guides were excellent in every respect, knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. The restaurant, bar and hotel staff acted with genuine care for making our stay as pleasant as possible. And the food, the food was beyond excellent! Worth every accolade and praise. I am already making plans to visit another Explora lodge! I will likely be traveling solo but this is not a problem at Explora. Within half a day of my arrival I was making acquaintances and joining other Explora visitors on hikes and explorations. A perfect arrangement! Thank you for wonderful experiences and memories!

I really wanted to love this place. The service is great, the guides are fantastic, but I'll never recover from the terrible food. For a country know for it's cuisine, Explora's food was an absolute let down. I'm still trying to figure out the pink bacon, or why the steak was so tough even though it was prepared medium. Even the potatoes were undercooked. Oh, the bar and the cocktails were great, but apparently they hired a mixologist to create the menu.

Most amazing hotel on the planet! The property is located in the center of the beautiful sacred valley with access to everything it has to offer. You wake up in comfortable and stylish rooms to the aroma of vanilla from the burning wood near by. The food and wait staff are absolutely incredible. We have never felt so taken care of at a hotel. All of this and I have yet to mention how amazing the explorations from the hotel can be. During our trip, we went on exciting hikes, interacted with local culture, and learned about the history and people of the valley. Whether you are seeking a relaxing trip or a challenging adventure, Explora is able to meet your needs.

My wife and I just finished 6 amazing days at Explora Valle Sagrado. It was our first time to Peru, and first stay at an Explora property so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Well...we could not have had a better time. The property is stunning, the staff is amazing. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. The food and drink options were delicious and highlight traditional Peruvian cuisine...but elevated. I also really appreciated the lodges attention to detail. There was nothing we could have asked for that they were not ready to provide. A true 5 star.||The lodge is geared toward outdoor adventure. Every day we had a guide and explored different regions of the Sacred Valley. I believe they have something for everyone of every adventure level. You can be as challenged, or as pampered as you want.||Peru is really beautiful and the people are very friendly and kind. We felt very safe, were never hassled, and were really just overwhelmed by the culture and history. Learning about the Inca people, their story/culture, and seeing their achievements was really breathtaking. ||So if you're considering going, I cannot recommend it enough. One thing to note is that everything in Peru and the Sacred Valley is far apart. The countryside is very rural, and the roads and infrastructure are limited. For each day of adventuring expect to have 1 to 2 hours of driving each way. Explora has excellent vehicles and drivers to get you safely where you need to go, but just be prepared for long days and lots of driving if you want to see a lot of the valley. Or....there's a beautiful spa on site if you're the type that never wants to leave the resort.||I've had the good fortune to travel a lot of the world and stay in some really amazing places. Explora Valle Sagrado ranks right up there at the top. Thank you Explora, it was a truly memorable experience!

Explora Valle Sagrado was an incredible experience from start to finish. All aspects were handled with care and a personal touch. If you are planning a trip to Machu Picchu or the Sacred Valley, Explora is a must stay. The food alone is worth it. Cheers!

Even though we couldn’t go to Machu Picchu due to the protests (completely outside of Explora’s control) we had an amazing experience with so many activities, excursions and the attention to details by the Explora team and staff.
