"A landmark restaurant that’s been around since 1910, Expreso was renovated in late 2016, replacing its retro tables and beautiful wooden fixtures with something that looks more like the interior of an Olive Garden. Despite the face-lift, it’s still a go-to for one of the best chivitos in the city. The gut-busting hot sandwich is composed of steak, ham, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and mayonnaise on a roll, with the addition of bacon when ordered Canadiense-style — as it should be. Expreso is open until midnight every night, so stop by after hitting a bar; chivitos make great post-drinking meals that’ll cut your chances of a hangover way, way down. — NMW" - Marcela Baruch, Nell McShane Wulfhart

Good neighborhood diner offering Uruguayan classics with reasonable prices. The Chivito Canadiense sandwich came with a mountain of french fries that can feed two or three. The sandwich itself is nothing special. Will probably return to try other food on the menu.

My husband and I stopped in here for breakfast early on a Saturday morning. The service was prompt and friendly. The menu includes a few vegetarian options. We both had sandwiches and coffee drinks. The atmosphere was lovely and quiet.

Have had hot chocolate a couple of times here. Yesterday the service was slow and this can be improved .We were served hot chocolate without the chocolate and had to wait about 15-20 mins for them to provide the chocolate to be added to the milk . The fish starter is good and worth trying .

Fulfilling breakfast. Nice staff. just wished the orange juice portion was a bit larger.

Just terrible and I wish I could give 0 stars. Here is why: 1. They don’t respect the line. Apparently the line is only for the main section, not the side 2. Our server did not know the menu or clean the tables. People sat in dirty tables for at least 15 minutes. 3. We ordered the chicken milanesa and got “meat.” When I mentioned it, he simply said “yeah it’s meat,” and walked away. No apology or anything. 4. The other server that seemed decent at the job, would scold our server about tending to his tables but not help. 5. Overpriced for flavorless, garbage food. The only positive was that we got a free coffee (which wasn’t that great anyways) but the man at the register did apologize.

Pretty nice traditional place. My Uruguayan friends suggested to get together there for coffee and pastries. No complaints. It was a Sunday early afternoon and the place was not crowded so we can talk about old times and we were not rushed by the staff. The atmosphere was perfect, relaxed and casual. I'd recommend this place.

Recommended to us by friends as the hottest new spot for a chivito uruguayo. And, it's an excellent one at that!

My Helenic salad was fantastic, followed by a piece of cake (mil hojas dulce de leche). Highly recommend. It’s no wonder the place has been around since 1910.
