The 10 Best Iceland Hotels to Book Right Now - AFAR

"A boho-chic, eco-certified urban retreat in downtown Reykjavík, this 65-room property occupies a converted office building near Laugavegur and offers a locavore restaurant, bar, and one of the rare hotel gyms in the city. Guest rooms are quietly Scandi with earth tones, four-poster beds, hardwood floors, and natural fabrics like sheepskin throws; the Danish-owned chain emphasizes sustainable practices such as down-free bedding and organic, refillable bathroom amenities." - Nicholas DeRenzo, Elissa Garay

Eyja Guldsmeden | Best places to stay in Iceland

"This practical city hotel offers a decent base for exploring Reykjavik. It’s a little way east of downtown, just off the main thoroughfare of Laugavegur, and while the building isn’t much to look at – a boxy, concrete block that’s typical of so much of Reykjavik – inside you’ll find plenty of designer style, including in the chic open-plan bar and attached restaurant. Rooms are surprisingly cosy, with timber furniture, frilly fabrics and sheepskins giving them the feel of a rustic B&B out in the country. There are some handy amenities here, too, including free parking and on-site bike hire. " - Oliver Berry

Our stay at the Eyja Guldsmeden a delightful experience from start to finish. The room was clean and well-equipped with everything we needed. There was enough storage for clothes, along with a nice shower. The room was lovely, comfortable and quiet.||For those renting a car, the hotel offers convenient parking both at the front and back, and we never had trouble finding a spot. The hotel’s location is great too—just a 5-minute walk to nearby food spots and a small convenience store for essentials. However, it’s about a 15–20-minute walk to Reykjavik's city center, which we didn’t mind, especially since the route is lined with souvenir shops.||One of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast. Although it’s on the pricier side, it was absolutely worth it. The food was fresh, high-quality, and delicious, with both continental and cooked options available in a small buffet style. The scrambled eggs were particularly delicious.||Overall, our stay at Eyja Guldsmeden was very enjoyable. The hotel’s comfort, great facilities, and excellent service made it an ideal base for exploring Reykjavik. We highly recommend it and would definitely stay here again

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The vibe is very warm and inviting. Loved the lobby/restaurant/bar area. Always had gentle appealing music playing and in the evening had candles burning creating such a great atmosphere. The food in the restaurant was really good. The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean. The staff was all friendly and helpful. Maybe an 8 minute walk to the cute part of Reykjavik. Parking was free which is rare and was so nice. Fitness center only had one piece of cardio equipment, but other than that the hotel was pretty perfect. The view from our room was also wonderful. Will definitely stay there again when we go back to Iceland.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel and would stay again if we ever came back. The front desk staff was very helpful, and the rooms were very clean and seemed relatively newly furnished. There was very easy street parking right in front of the hotel (for no fee). It was a good location in that it was not in the central downtown area (i.e., quiet), but was an easy 10-15 minute walk to the harbor or the tourist/shopping/restaurant areas. The neighborhood seemed safe. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant, but stopped twice for drinks, and found the service to be excellent and the drinks well made. It was nice that the bar was open until 11pm. The rooms were spacious.

We picked Eyja for our honeymoon in Iceland. It was just what we needed. Had free parking (which seems imposible in Reykjavík), very clean and comfortable rooms, great breakfast (not included but convenient. Walking to downtown is nice as well, its about 10min but its nice to experience the city walking. Laura checked us in and she was great! I would recommend Eyja to anyone going to Iceland.

Exquisite in every way! I decided to visit Iceland to celebrate a milestone birthday and after tons of research I decided on this wonderful hotel! They even had a bottle of bubbly waiting in my room when I arrived. It exceeded expectations in every way…seriously! The cleanness, the customer service, the well appointed rooms, the location…everything was outstanding. I will absolutely return on my next visit.

Staff was friendly, room is nice, and the place is affordable by Iceland standards. The only gripe is how thin the walls can be. Thankfully most people staying here were pretty considerate.

Stayed here with family (one toddler) as it was located between a work location and downtown. It is quiet, warm and cosy and gives off a slightly rustic feel. The superior room was OK for the 3 of us in size, but had a view looking over parts of the bay. The cot was appropriately sized for our toddler, with a comfortable mattress and blankets (we did not use these) provided. The check-in and check-out process was easy and they were happy to store our bags for us since we arrived early. Staff were friendly and happy to make simple accommodations for our needs.||The breakfast has variety and is well-stocked, with some Icelandic touches (the fish oil, skyr). 24/7 tea also came in helpful. Definitely a highlight of this hotel.||The location pretty close, but not too close to downtown (there are no restaurants immediately visible as you walk out), but there are plenty within 5 to 10 minutes walk. Tour buses pick up and drop-off immediately outside this hotel.

Beautiful lobby and big windows with a great view. Lovely breakfast. Comfortable rooms that were bright and relaxing. Quick walk to center of anything.
