If there was a chain called Ezell's Famous Sides, it would be 5-stars allllllllllll day long. Because all the sides I ate were delicious: corn kernels, baked beans, mashed potato, sweet potato pie, and the rolls. But the chicken.....the 8 piece original pack....that was not good fried chicken. It's baffling to me that a fried chicken chain serves up everything else deliciously, except the fried chicken.
*Disclaimer - I have eaten at different locations of Ezell's from Seattle to Federal Way over the years, and it's always been mostly underwhelming, but this is the first time where I felt like I had to write a review because the chicken was prepared so poorly*
My kid....he says to me...upon eating a thigh...."this chicken is dry and has no taste".....I'm thinking come on kid, can't be that bad....and then I took a bite....no taste, no saltiness, no moistness, not even the crunchy skin had any flavor. My kid had to use the Chik Fil A sauce we had in the fridge just to be able to eat a little more of it.
So I'm thinking, ok maybe it's just the thigh, I'll try a drumstick.....nope, same result, except it was a bit more moist, but still no taste.....the meat literally tasted like plain boiled chicken. I couldn't even finish the tiny drumstick because of the lack of taste. Did the restaurant run out of salt or other spices that day?!?!
If I ever go back, it would just be for their sides.....I'll go to Albertson's on a Monday for Cheep Chicken Mondays ($5 for 8 pcs), and then buy some sides at Ezell's for a much better fried chicken meal.
(Also there is no way Ezell's chicken is better than Jollibee...I read that opinion under a different reviewer....super disagree)
