The Ezell's Famous Chicken Power Rankings

"If you live in West Seattle, this location is truly a godsend, seeing as there are no other Ezell’s across the bridge. There are a few four-seaters at the otherwise nondescript restaurant situated in the lot of a Thriftway. And if you absolutely can’t wait to tear into your order, those tables are convenient. But really you're here to grab a four-piece combo and maybe some tasty fried okra before hopping on the Fauntleroy ferry or hanging out at Lincoln Park. " - kayla sager riley

Google
A positive experience overall. Hot food cooked to order. Service was friendly and focused. The food was good. My only critique or request would be to season the dredge a bit more. Otherwise, my wife and I enjoyed it very much. Thanks for being a part of our community. Keep up the good work.

Google
I had passed this place going home from work and now that we moved to the area we had to try it. The fried chicken is awesome! Love the spicy, regular, and Buffalo options for the tenders and the rolls are my new favorite. We actually ordered a small lunch and brought it home and loved it so much we ordered more! Great place, friendly staff, and great location on top of it! Way to go Ezell's! You are officially our fried chicken spot.

I asked if I'd ordered sauce because I thought I might have forgotten. As I was checking the bag the server replied that whatever I ordered was there. Well, it was there and like I said, I wasn't sure that I included it in my order. Her response might have been defensive though there was no need to be. My other encounters have been with friendly genial staff. She just needs a little customer service training.

Placed an order online, 40 minutes before closing time. Show up 20 minutes later to pick it up and they tell me sorry my order has been canceled and my card will be refunded. West Seattle store 6/23/25. No text message stating any updates. In general, the chicken strips and sides are usually great.

Google
Just picked up close to closing the staff was friendly, place was clean, and food was excellent. Had to wait a couple minutes for Bread rolls and I’m so happy we did damn they good.

Google
Ezell's Famous Chicken West Seattle Local business first opened in 1984 crossed the street from Garfield High School. African American owned. Authentic 'Home Style' Fried Chicken. Made crispy with extra care and goodness. I ordered the 2 piece with Coleslaw, Biscuit and a Drink. The menu has some variety to it available menu items include Fried Okra, Chicken Livers and Cajun Fries. You can also order Sweet Potato Pie or Gizzards. Ezell's speciality of course is Chicken... The recipe is all its own genuine and Home made. Excellent Fried Chicken. Self made company Seattle grown. (Help support local products and businesses)

Google
Great place with friendly service. Chicken strips were perfectly cooked and tasty! I took one star off because the sides could use improvement -fries were not seasoned or salty, and mac was oily not cheesy. Wish the portions were a bit bigger! Will be going back for more chicken !

After a 40 mile bike ride on a cold day, a chicken dinner from Ezell's was just what I needed. I ordered and set my own pickup time. The order was ready at the prescribed time and after returning home, I was deliciously re-fueled with chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked beans and a roll. Great stuff!

Yelp
One of the few places to get fried chicken in West Seattle and it's a bit pricey. Casual, counter service restaurant with a few tables for dine in. Most customers get their orders to go. Items I would skip: Spicy fried chicken - salty and not spicy Mac and cheese - tastes a bit sour due to some ingredient they add to it, the cheese could be creamier Items I would get again: Chicken strips - lightly breaded with flour, crispy and juicy, one of the best items Regular fried chicken - great crispy skin and tasty Fried okra - lightly breaded with flour and perfectly fried Rolls - delicious and fluffy, one of the best items

Yelp
Wish I could say this was a stellar review for the so-called famous chicken spot, but once again, Ezell's got my order wrong... As I say that, I know I have to share what was ordered, or at least missing, but let's talk about a few other things first... service will always go a LONG way when smiles or friendly behind the counter are included... the warmth of the front counter was tepid at best... it'd be different if they were super busy, but no... I asked to use the restroom AFTER ordering and was told in clipped tones where to find the door code... restroom was clean, thankfully! As was everything in the place... I watched as a few orders were put out, one table, the rest to go... lots of to go, but no one checked their orders before leaving so I thought ok I will take the que and not stand there to open all the boxes to make sure all I'd ordered was included... my bad! I don't live near this location, but happen to have business fairly often at the nearby Mailbox West (they're AWESOME!)... I figured I'd try this again, 1st time at this location, let's see what happens and if THIS location can salvage my view from the Tacoma location... nope! They totally missed 3pcs of chicken and got the sides, but not the chicken. They got the 2 orders of gizzards, one spicy, one original, but I've honestly never had gizzards so bland in my life... I ordered 2pc chicken original, which was partially included since there were 2pcs spicy, but not 3pcs... the best part of the meal for me, since I gave everything else I ordered to my family to share was... the cobbler bowl... honorable mention for the roll, which had more flavor than the gizzards! Will I go back? Maybe... but you can bet I'll be checking my order before I leave to make SURE everything is included!

Yelp
Management stood by their product and service to make things right, life happens and we will try again.

Yelp
I love Ezell's spicy blend and crispy chicken coat! It's the best, along with the fluffy roll they serve. The chicken is 5- star, as is the easy online ordering and friendly staff. The sides are not my favorite, though pleasant enough. I wish they offered some greens, and that the slaw was a little crispier. I usually get mash/gravy, sometimes baked beans. This isn't really a dine in experience, though you could if you were in a rush to eat. There are a few tables, but it's much nicer to do takeout and then collapse into a food coma in the comfort of your home.

Yelp
Love me some fried chicken! Ezells does it right! We stopped by 15mins prior to closing and ordered our food togo.. we were greeted with friendly staff and manager.. we ordered the spicy chicken tenders, regular fried chicken, cajun fries and all the dipping sauces we could see on the menu. The chicken was fried to perfection - crunchy on the outside and juicy cooked on the inside.. I was disappointed with the spicy chicken tenders since they were not spicy at all but loved the crunch crisp texture of their fried chicken.. The fries were delicious too.. the dipping sauces were good.. The customer service was great. Staff was not at all irritated even though we walked in 15mins prior to closing..all in all we are very happy to have Ezells here in west seattle..

Yelp
Wow, this really is finger licking good chicken.. Stopped by for some bird today and can't share my exuberance on having some quality fine fried chicken. Now I'm a drumstick and chicken strips guy and boy did Ezell deliver the goods. Can't wait to come back for more..

Yelp
Can't believe it. Another 4 piece without a breast.... Check your orders folks. I posted. Few months ago with the same problem

Yelp
I love Ezell's Famous Chicken! I've been to their locations in the Central District and Wallingford, so I am really excited that they decided to come to West Seattle! They are located in the Morgan Junction, on the corner of Fauntleroy Way and California Ave. It used to be an AT&T store and they share a parking lot with Thriftway. I recently went there on a weekday around lunchtime and I had a great experience. There was actually no line which was awesome. The employee at the counter took my order and I got my food quickly. I took my order to go, but they do have a few tables and chairs for dining in. I ordered the 4 Piece Chicken Dinner Combo: 4 pieces of fried chicken (your choice of Original, Spicy, or Half & Half), 2 bread rolls, and 2 regular (6 oz) side dishes (your choice of coleslaw, mac and cheese, potato salad, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, or baked beans). It was more than enough food for two people. I will definitely be eating here again and I would recommend it to others!

Yelp
Came to visit here in Seattle for two weeks and this was nearby so I had to try it! Everything was delicious and just perfect imo. Service was good too, although I will miss their rolls. Mac & Cheese was good as well as their mashed potatoes had a nice & different kick to it. Loved how you can also buy a half dozen or full dozen of rolls! Will definitely be back when i'm around the area.

Yelp
So delicious!!! I had a craving for fried chicken and of course, Ezells was the place to hit that craving. So good!

Yelp
Angel provided me fantastic customer service. As soon as I walked in he was attentive and got me my pick up order. The food was delicious - we had the chicken strips, fried okra, 2 piece combo and cobbler, all things I'd get again. The location in West Seattle is clean and easy to get to as well! Thanks Angel and Ezell's!

Yelp
Easy & free parking. Solid spot. Music is on-point. Staff is friendly & having fun. This place has the most soul in West Seattle. Asked for the 4 piece half n half (delicious). With rolls (fire). They were out of the BBQ Beans and something else. I asked if the Mac n Cheese would put me to sleep. The young man said I got this. Well....I didn't have it at all! I almost fell asleep in my car on the way home! Mad dangerous my G!!! Lol jk - I made it home safe. Delicious food & beautiful people. Can't wait to come back. Stay blessed

Lori C.

Yelp
OK. The last two times we have been there to PICK UP ONLY, have been a cluster. It seems to me 85% of those youngsters seem like they are smoking dope ( or something) along with frying chicken. There have been at least 6-7 workers there each time, one or two extremely helpful, while the others are doing who knows what. How can one kid be running his tail off, with the others standing around the back chatting, or MIA? Why is a young lady, working around industrial cookers pulling off her personal headphones to assist? Whoever manages this store needs to open their eyes, promote the few great workers, and get rid of the lazy bones not doing a thing while the line gets longer. My husband actually had to say " hey is anyone working, or what"?!
google avatar

Matt T.

Yelp
The fried chicken if great! Better than KFC and Church's. The peach cobbler is not my Grandmother's but it is good. Sides are generous and the staff is very friendly. Weird parking - not their fault. They serve Pepsi products, which is a personal bummer and does not speak to the quality of food or service, but you should know before you go. Busy after work and at lunch. Dine-in spots are limited.
google avatar

Kate S.

Yelp
Ezell's is the best. I stop by whenever I am in Seattle. Beans and potato salad are my usuals along with any and all chicken. I love this place.
google avatar

Josh J.

Yelp
For some reason, this place has gone downhill. It seems like the chicken is over cooked with no spice anymore. Sometimes when you get the thigh it still has its feather or wing connected so it's like you're eating bone. Just disappointed.

M R.

Yelp
Th people and service here was excellent. The food was mostly awful. Beans and rolls were delicious but the chicken was so dry with hard breading. Paying $25 for 2 people and throwing all but the beans and rolls away deserved a. 1 star.
google avatar

Gary W.

Yelp
This is the go-to place when I'm looking for some chicken livers. I know they have other fried chicken, but hey I'm into chicken livers and fried okra. Forget all the other stuff as my love is for just these two things. It's pretty easy to park and ordering is very efficient as they have a process to churn out the fried chicken. With chicken livers you have to wait an extra 10-15 minutes as they have to make them fresh.
google avatar

Yelp
I wanted to order from caviar. It didn't go through so I called and they deal with door dash. 1st the food is not that good anymore. I miss them 15years ago. 2nd. They left caviar for door dash after I have a subscription with caviar. Then they advocate for a subscription for DoorDash. Probably the same company. I refuse. $9 difference in price. They don't honor your price and jack it up. Food may not have been good anyway. It was not the last time. And it sucks.
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
I just wanted one or two chicken strips to snack on but I had to buy a minimum of 3 and a roll for $7.99 What a rip off! They were really tiny strips, the chicken looked boiled and the batter was pale too. Apparently I didn't tip enough!! (I did tip as the credit card machine asked and as someone who also works in the service industry, I get it) but the staff could be friendlier and more enthusiastic! I was really looking forward to it but was very disappointed.

Bea F.

Yelp
The one time I ate at one I became really ill. Wondered whether the oil was very old. Too bad cause I really like fried chicken livers and they're hard to find.
google avatar

Larry L.

Yelp
5 star taste - 3 star ambience (its really noisy) and 3 stars for chicken. I've been a fan of Ezell's for years. This location opened just this year. Both pieces of chicken had a ton of fat. Both pieces were soggy from the grease picking away the Globs of fat was gross. I'm sure other people are happy they set up shop in West Seattle but I don't think my experience will have me returning soon. I don't like that there was so much waste with the container and a fairly thick plastic bag. I also had a lot of wasted chicken because of overly greasy skin and globs of fat. Go ahead and criticize me for my opinion. Maybe they are still working out the kinks.

Yelp
Wanted to check out Ezell's famous chicken & see what all the hype was about, went on one of their busiest days which was Saturday around lunch time & even though it was busy, the service was pretty fast & employees were nice despite how chaotic it was in there. As for the food, the spicy chicken was nothing special I've had better but nonetheless it was still good. The mashed potatoes with gravy, Mac n cheese & baked roll were pretty delicious.

Mr. Rainbow C.

Yelp
I kept hearing hype about Ezella and finally got to taste it. Just another over rated Seattle food spot. The chicken was dry. The coating was okay. The peach cobbler was watery and flavorless other than cinammon. Will not be back.
google avatar

Yelp
The best chicken we have had in Washington. So tasty and fresh. Also the sides and bread so yummy!! And Dolorean was really nice and helpful. She made us feel welcome. Always with a very nice attitude and smile. I felt like I was in Louisana, were they serve the best fried chicken and people are nicer and relaxed (I'm from LA) also the restaurant was very clean. Thank you for such a great experience :)

Yelp
I'm addicted! Their chicken is so delicious and reasonably priced. Also when you order for pick-up it's ready in 10 minutes!

Yelp
delivery servixe was awful. ordered through the website and the delivery driver left the food outside of my apartment building on the ground. then when I said "why"? he said "F U N!&&@" .

Yelp
Excellent chicken spicy hot and fresh Great sweet potato pie!! Definitely will be back

Yelp
I'm sure Ezell's makes good fried chicken for most customers. I prefer a different taste in fried chicken. It is not crispy enough for me. I also prefer more seasoning. The smell of fried chicken cooking as I walked in to order my two piece white meat meal, was hypnotic. But, unfortunately, the my meal didn't live up to the wonderful aroma. This was my first time trying Ezells. I will try it again just to make sure my assessment was accurate. I love fried chicken and it would be great if I could get it close to home.
google avatar

Paige F.

Yelp
This location always delivers quality. Tasty spicy chicken tenders, delicious homemade sides and reasonably priced! Ezells always hits the spot.
google avatar

Zari S.

Yelp
Yet again they messed up on our order.. first off the employees customer service sucked, they were too busy talking and flirting to even really help us. Ontop of that we asked for spicy chicken and the chicken did not taste spicy at all and the rolls looked undercooked. Also the Cajun fries were undercooked and it was highly disappointing. I come here often and for the price I just paid for this meal I hate to say it but it was a waste of money. I spent $50 here and my food should have been up to par not how it got served to me, ontop of that literally they acted like they were so busy talking that they couldn't answer my question when I had asked for something. This is highly unacceptable and I do not recommend eating here at all ‍. Also there's no reason I the customer should feel as though I am getting blankly ignored. I'm so very disappointed in the service and on top of that I'm still trying to figure out what was funny since your employees wanted to be back there laughing so loud looking in mine and my boyfriends direction. Ezells I'm highly disappointed and if I could give you guys zero stars I would. There's no reason I come here so often and every time you guys mess up on my order, or something is undercooked to the point where it's damn near raw . So very disappointed. To anyone who eats here be careful your chicken might turn out pink or your Mac n cheese might be old like how they served us old Mac n cheese and raw chicken or your fries might be undercooked. Beware I have gotten sick off this locations food before and I thought maybe they changed let me give them another chance... nope it was the same‍‍.

Kenan C.

Yelp
Limited choice of chicken you get a leg and I think a thigh (skinny thigh)... for a very high price.. same price you could buy a 6 pack of chicken at neighboring grocery stores.... I am good with paying top dollar for quality... sadly what I got was chicken from an anorexic chicken hardly any meat.. and taste isn't $50'plus dollars great, assuming deep fry grease was clean.... I do understand it was their first day of business ... But dumping $50 plus dollars for 1 chick plates and a chicken strip plate and a few sides, should be something memorable. On a plus, white meat chicken strips were decent and a couple sides were ok... Family of 4 plan to spend $60 plus dollars... K

Dave F.

Yelp
After waiting in line for an hour before paying and then another half hour after paying I asked one of the counter people how much longer? He found my check, which was just a 8 piece, and said it would be another 20 minutes. When I questioned why several others who came after me had already been served he became hostile. At that point I demanded my money and the $5 tip returned. He told me to take it up with corporate for a refund. I never got the food or the refund of $28.50 I wasn't the only angry customer they had that day

Yelp
Some good chicken! Why isn't this place open later serving up chicken? Damn, we need this place to stay open later.
google avatar

Alisa E.

Yelp
It's great to have a really good fried chicken place in West Seattle. Their chicken is always consistent at Ezell's. Very tasty and their sides are delicious too! I'm so happy they are right across the street. I feel like I will be adding some pounds with all the tasty treats but chicken is healthy so what's the harm.
google avatar

Jeff A.

Yelp
Excellent home style fried chicken and sides. They have gizzards too! So glad Ezell's has returned to the Westside!

Dustin M.

Yelp
I was very disappointed about all the hype of this place service seemed great but the lack of taste on the chicken disappointing. If this is the so called best chicken in the PNW then it has a long way to goo. The one star is based off the taste only. Everything else was good

Darlene S.

Yelp
We had dinner at the new Ezell's Wednesday 3-5, it was very good, good service & food was good & hot! We went back today, 3-7 around 4:30, service was ok, food was luke warm, very disappointed. As we left my husband requuested another roll to go, he paid for it and we left. He thought he was getting a nice hot roll but "NO" just like the other two we had, barely luke warm. I told a few friends about our wonderful food we had Wednesday, now I'm going to call everyone back & say don't bother!

Amanda T.

Yelp
The food here is not good, taste or quality. Any of the fried chicken chains would be better.
google avatar

William H.

Yelp
Went there today for the first time. Had fast and friendly service. The manager Delorean was very friendly and helpful. Glad they have online order service as it was ready as soon as I showed up. Food was good as well. Will be back again soon!!

Rich D.

Yelp
I've been enjoying Ezell's for years. Unfortunately I paid for my order at the Morgan Junction Store and they added gratuity for a ToGo order without my knowing. Looked at the receipt later. I actually gave cash on site but now I will never go back. Over Rated Chicken. Love the okra tho. Good luck
google avatar

Jordan M.

Yelp
Not too different than any other Ezell's. It's always busy, so the staff is definitely working hard, but they provide good and friendly service nonetheless. The food is amazing -- still my favorite chicken in the city. As long as you can avoid going when there's a line going out the door, they are definitely worth giving a visit.

Chucktiffglen ..

Yelp
Delicious food. Only complaint is that we ordered, proceeded to see the person in front of us and the 5 people behind us get their food before us, so we had to ask why that was. Apparently they forgot about our order. I think they have some communication problems between the young unexpired people taking orders between the cooks in the back.

Vanessa K.

Yelp
Thanks for feeding our family fried Spicy Chicken Tenders throughout the year. I can tell this location cleans out their oil frequently.

K T.

Yelp
I waited anxiously for Ezell's to open this location. Chicken tenders are meaty, cooked perfectly, but the batter is very thin and comes out of the cooking process very light. I have tried the classic fried chicken pieces and found them cooked perfectly but very greasy. I have the same comment on the batter as before. Wether it is the tenders or the chicken pieces, the chicken is not seasoned at all and can be kind of flavorless. Having tried a couple of sides (beans & cole slaw) I will say they were excellent. So I guess I would say it's OK, but there's no "wow".

Yelp
Just had my first-ever meal at Ezell's. I never ate at the original Ezell's so I don't know how this version measures up, as it's a different recipe. I ordered online for pick-up, and everything was ready when I arrived and nicely packaged. I had the "original" style. The battered chicken was well cooked, very crispy the way I like it, not greasy, though the meat was a little dry. The flavor was somewhat bland, but not at all salty like so many other fast-food joints. Maybe I'll try the "spicy" version next time. Loved the coleslaw and the mashed potatoes were good (not the instant kind), but the portion a bit small and there was barely any gravy. The only thing I didn't like was the rolls. The texture is too soft and doughy, like Wonder Bread consistency. KFC definitely has them beat in that department. I'd prefer biscuits or cornbread muffins. Would love to see apple and pecan pie offered as a dessert.
