So I was craving chicken wings on a Saturday morning and ended up driving past this place. Second thought said, now is the time to try Ezell's, even though they're not known for wings and because there's no long line. And thanks to the coronavirus, only a couple of DoorDashers were picking up before me. Now, I have a disclaimer in the fact that I'm forced to do takeout, versus dine in. I personally feel its key when trying fried chicken, and my drive home from here will in-turn have an effect on this review as well. But onward, so here's my take:
Staff: No issues ordering, as they placed a protective glass barrier between register and customer. And I'm totally fine with it. I believe it was the manager that helped me at the register. She wore a mask and was cordial upon entrance.
Dining & Atmosphere: The tables were clean, but obviously closed off. I can imagine all the seats taken, with patrons happily eating here too. But oh well, sign of the times for now.
Famous Fried Chicken: I ordered 4 Pieces with 2 Side and 2 Rolls for ($12.99), half original half spicy. Excited to open up the box I sorta wondered what cuts these were other than recognizing the drumstick. My breast piece was somewhat butterflied, and the thigh was thin and skinny versus chubby and juicy looking. Odd first impression, but no biggie and onto texture. There wasn't a huge crunch, but that wasn't a huge back-breaker. The breast piece was not as tender or juicy as I had expected. The thigh was decent, although I'm more of thigh/drumstick fan anyways. As for the two spicy pieces, I'd have to say it was real light, and didn't feel any kick or anything. Almost like the spice was just a hint. I really couldn't distinguish between the original and spicy.
To conclude, I guess (being from SoCal) I was totally expecting a good comparison to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. Ezell's was nearly similar, but if two fried chicken plates were side to side, I would know which is which and know I'd choose Roscoe's. There was nothing really memorable, but also nothing horrible in my opinion. I really really really just wanted to say:

But I didn't, so I'll have to give these guys another try.
