Every Portland Restaurant Opening of 2020 | Eater Portland

"An Oprah-approved fried chicken chain from Seattle that quietly opened its first Oregon location, known for its biscuits and sides; I’d order the chicken dinner combo." - Alex Frane

Ezell’s Famous Chicken Will Open Its First Oregon Location in Tigard February 4 | Eater Portland

"Known for collecting celebrity chicken stories—like Steve Harvey tucking into his green-room order before he even made it to the green room, George Foreman eating an eight-piece meal with four rolls in one sitting, and NFL tackle Walter Jones nicknamed “four now four later” for eating half an eight-piece while seated in the restaurant—Ezell’s will open its first Oregon location Feb. 4 within Washington Square Too, the development on Washington Square Road on the other end of the cemetery. The menu will mirror the Washington locations: specialty-cut white-and-dark-meat wings or tenders (Cajun-style spicy or not), sides such as mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese, and slow-baked barbecue beans, plus a few nontraditional items like golden-fried okra and gizzards; the restaurant is particularly known for warm rolls baked fresh each morning, with sweet potato pie and peach cobbler coming out of the oven daily. Celebrated by everyone from the Seattle Times’ Bethany Jean Clement to Oprah Winfrey, the owners plan additional Oregon locations down the line and will celebrate the Washington Square Too debut by serving $1 pieces of fried chicken and a roll from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on opening day, donating the proceeds to Tigard High School PSO for teacher grants and student scholarships." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
I ordered ahead for pickup. The order was hot, fresh and ready to go! Ezell’s is the only place I know of in my area that serves absolutely fresh, delicious gizzards. Highly recommend for anything on their menu! Great friendly service!!!

Google
Great customer service. Clean and well maintained restaurant. Nice comfort food. The food was a bit bland and highly dependent on added spices. The basic fried chicken needed something more. A great fried chicken does not need the spicy spices to make it palatable. The biscuits were the best part of my food order.

Google
Good flavorful fried chicken and chicken tenders. I love their fresh baked rolls and the only place where I can get fried okra whenever I feel like eating it and when I’m missing the food from the Carolinas. Combining it with iced sweet tea makes it perfect. The place is clean and friendly staff.

Google
After my significant other, Ezell's Famous Chicken has become my most-called telephone number for the past two months. I might have a slight addiction at this point and I end up over here a couple of times a week because both their fried chicken and chicken tenders are so delicious! They have a lot of sides to offer as well and I would highly recommend the mashed potatoes and gravy, which I believe compliment the chicken so well. The fries and macaroni and cheese are decent, but I have had better elsewhere. Service has always been friendly and fast with me, I just have no complaints. I have been telling everyone I care about to try this place.

Google
I’m a huge fan of Ezell’s. Here is how I always have success with them….go early, order more then you think you will eat, and always ask for honey and butter for the biscuits. I love fried chicken, it’s a guilty pleasure for me. Plus I enjoy thighs, wings, drummies and dark meat instead of white meat. It’s a mess, there is no polite way to eat there chicken. So enjoy!

Google
We love this place. When we go to Ezell's, we usually order takeout on Friday afternoon between 3 and 5. The crew working this shift is killing it! Their chicken is the best I've had in Oregon; crispy, juicy, and not too greasy. Their spicy seasoning is what's up. Highly recommend the spicy chicken combo (we get the 8-piece so we have leftovers) and the spicy fried okra. Their regular sides are just okay, but we come here for the fried chicken and fried okra, which are always excellent. Their rolls are awesome, too. This place is comfort food all the way. We will keep coming back as long as we live in the area. Did I mention fried okra?

Google
My wife and went to ezells, at Washington square tonight, we both had ordered the 3piece of chicken with 2 sides, our 2 sides were mashed potatoes and gravy, with potatoe salad. We also ordered chicken gizzard and 2 drinks. We'll here Is a pic of our food. Notice the chicken,3 piece is a lot darker than the golden brown delicious giazzards. Our chicken was cold and not good at all. I have no idea how our gizzards came fried like our chicken, but the gizzard were crunchy, hot and delicious. The gizzard were amazing like always though. We were very disappointed in the chicken though. The mashed potatoes were very runny also. I feel like for 40 bucks, I could have gotten better chicken out albertsons hot deli.

Travis D.

Google
I'll try it again, but I didn't think it was anything special. Everything was fine, just a little bland I tried the 3 piece with some spicy and some regular. The crust on the chicken was thick and crunchy. The regular chicken wasn't very flavorful and the spicy chicken which was just HOT. I had the beans and mashed potatoes + gravy as sides and they were fine. Potatoes were a bit lumpy, the gravy was neutral. The beans were flavorful, very similar to KFC. Comes with a nice dinner roll made in house I will try again and go for the tenders and see how they are. This is their opening week so maybe just a few things are off.

Yelp
Quick, friendly service and same great taste. I know exactly what I'm getting at Ezells, food and service are similar in all their spots. Chicken is flavorful, juicy, and had the perfect bite. Paired with M&C, slaw, and beans ... yum! Had enough for left overs (easy dinner)! We went for an early lunch and it was not busy. In a parking lot of Washington Square mall (or very nearby) with lots of parking.
google avatar

Pamela L.

Yelp
Overcooked chicken with a weirdly cooked coating. There was a pocket of air between the chicken and the skin. I pick dark meat because it's normally juicier. When the chicken came out, it was room temperature. It may be because the dining room was incredibly cold. The staff were nice . Not very informative after I identified myself as someone who had never been here before. The roll was very good. I didn't know you had to order honey at an extra charge. The baked beans were good.
google avatar

Yelp
Work decided this would be great for the employees, and what I ended up eating has to be the most bland and uninspiring fried chicken I have ever eaten in my entire life. It's almost like whomever cooked it was allergic to anything resembling flavor. The beans were worthy of at least one star in this review, but that Mac and cheese had absolutely no lfe in it whatsoever (I mean, you could at least salt the water the pasta was cooked in, for god's sake!). How this place became "famous" is simply mystifying. Please, for the love of everything in good taste, learn how to use salt and pepper!!

Yelp
I came in here for lunch today and had a four piece dark meal. It came with coleslaw, mashed potatoes and two dinner rolls. The ticket was decent. I'm not a fan of the coding and skin being so hard but I can see that is probably just a preference. The chicken itself was very good. The mashed potatoes and gravy awesome! Very flavorful gravy. The coleslaw had a slight bite to it, which I really enjoyed very refreshing. I'll definitely come back again if I'm in the area.

Dan S.

Yelp
Read reviews and was looking for good fried chicken. I am afraid this was not it. My wife had the tenders, Biscuit and mashed potatoes and gravy. She really liked the tenders. She did not like the biscuit and did not care for the mashed potatoes and gravy. I had mixed chicken original and spicy. The original did not have much flavor to it, the spicy was a little better. Kinda liked the potato salad, the Cole slaw was just ok. The atmosphere was typical fast food but clean. Thought the price was a little high. Not sure if I will try again.

Yelp
Love Ezell's recipe and have good experiences here in the past (food, ambiance, and service). This visit we were immediately greeted by a sewage smell when we walked through the door to order which was unpleasant and not particularly appetizing. Food was pretty good as usual but as a true Southerner myself, it's very unusual to not have fresh brewed iced tea available with your fried chicken and fried okra. They offer some generic bottled tea that is mediocre at best and nothing close to fresh brewed iced tea. Definitely something that needs to be rectified by management (along with the sewage smell).

Yelp
Sorry but over hyped and maybe set too high of expectations but in all fairness if OPRAH highly recommend and backed....Sorry I'm gonna have high expectations whether it's psychologically or literally but same nonetheless....And lowkey was mid at best!! If you know y'all know any good chicken spot has either RedRooster hot sauce or Louisiana hot sauce and they had neither....If u know u know!!

Yelp
Ordered from here thru door dash, and I am counting every last 56 dollars. Nothing on this meal was worth a penny. Beyond disappointed 1. The chicken was so dry, it broke off in multiple pieces as I was eating it. Lets not even touch on the lack of flavors, cause it was there. 2. Less ketchup on the bbq beans please 3. The mash potaotoe was def not made from scratch, it felt like a convalescent home meal. Flat out disappointment

Yelp
Ezell's chicken is delicious and brings me back to my childhood in Texas. It almost has a a Grandy's Restaurant flavor. The 24 count mixed southern style fried chicken (original) with rolls and a large side order fried okra was crispy, juicy and seasoned to perfection! I'd like to sample the macaroni and mashed potatoes next time.

Malinee S.

Yelp
3.5 stars for dinner set. 4 pieces dark meat chickens with mashed potatoes 2 dinner rolls and bake bean side dishes. Chicken is crispy lightly seasoned. Right amount of saltiness. We had 2 original and 2 spicy chickens. Baked bean is nice and in a sweet side. Mashed potato with gravy is nice but not wow. Dinner roll was just ok. There is Ko sauce comes with this set. If you want a sauce, they charade 0.60 each.

Yelp
I got their chicken through door dash food came hot. The chicken is very good nice and moist. Hit the spot

Showed up at 8:10 and was closed, drove far for nothing! I'm not sure I will risk that drive to come back.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and just recently drive by on a rainy Sunday afternoon as I rarely go shopping at Washington Square these days. I ended up ordering the Fried Chicken combo with coleslaw and not pictured was a side of Mac and cheese. The staff could recognize that I wasn't familiar with the menu and suggested I try the regular and spicy fried chicken. I like spicy food but not so hot like some of the hot chicken I've had in the past. I also wanted to try the sides. I typically get coleslaw and occasionally get mac and cheese, so I stuck with that. It comes with a roll as well. The staff was very nice for helping to make suggestions for me. So I wasn't sure which was the spicy and which was the regular. I think I eventually landed on the left one in the pic being the spicy but the difference was so subtle that I just wonder if they messed up my order? The spicy level at popular fast food joints was way more noticeable so I was perplexed. The chicken was juicy and taste great but my only complaint was that spicy was not even the least bit spicy. Next I tried the coleslaw and the mac sides. The coleslaw was delicious. I could eat it up all day long, but the mac was dried out and lukewarm. Almost like it had been sitting out all day near by a heat lamp. I was disappointed. Finally I tried the roll. It looked good but was also cold. I realized why. Behind the order counter was a stack of of several trays of rolls just sitting there. I guess they batch cook too many of them so they don't have to deal with it later? The roll didn't come with any butter or honey so we got up and asked for some. The price of the meal is actually pretty reasonable considering how the cost of everything has gone up. Overall, I found the experience just average.

Yelp
We've eaten here several times now and we are always impressed with the friendliness of the staff, speed of service, and the quality of the food. The tables are always clean, and the bathrooms are always well stocked and clean. We really enjoy the stubborn soda options at the soda fountain. We get a combo meal(usually 4 piece) which is a perfect amount for 2 adults with normal appetites. The mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese are our go to sides and they are always delicious. The original and spicy chicken are both good options. We go for half and half and never have leftovers. All in all a great place to go for a classic fried chicken experience.

Renee A.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place, but live in Salem. Finally made it to the Washington Square location last night and what a disappointment. The guy at the counter was more interested in talking to his friend than taking care of his customer. I ordered 3 tenders that I expected to look way different than they did. Maybe they are mini tenders, I could be wrong. They were tiny, one was flatter than a dime, and they were dry. I ordered the fries, and they were completely flavorless. No salt at all. They were fresh, but could really have used some seasoning. The roll was okay, but some butter would have taken it up a notch. Such a disappointing experience. I ended up throwing my food away. What a waste!

John-Paull D.

Yelp
Superb chicken sides and peach cobbler. We fed 4 on the 8 piece meal set. We will go again! Love both spicy and regular chicken. Soda mix was off tho.

Robert

Yelp
Just ordered $75 order on door dash and you didn't put in the 1/2 lb of buffalo tenders. Sweet! Thanks for ruining dinner. Not even marked off on the receipt. Great job!

Yelp
I have stopped by Ezell's a few times in Oregon and Washington. I have always found the stores to be clean and the staff friendly. The spicy chicken is good: a little crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside and never an unpleasant greasy aftertaste. Also, the peach cobbler is pretty good.

Yelp
The customer service here was amazing from the time we entered the door to the time we left. The food was hot and fresh. It is the typical fast food aesthetic with top notch service and decent food. In a time where it seems that customer service is a forgotten skill, this team gave me hope. I will keep coming back simply because of this experience and the young man at the register that was so kind, sincere and helpful. We went between 1 and 2 pm. The timing for the food to come out was minimal. The young man at the register didn't have a nametag but if the manager reads this, make sure you recognize his outstanding performance

Yelp
Ezell's feels like a homey chicken spot that's consistently tasty and simple. I like the crispiness of their chicken. While it's not overly seasoned with anything it is a plus. Just simple fried chicken. I also love their fried gizzards and livers. Their fried gizzards might be some of the best ones yet. The ones you can usually get elsewhere (say far out gas stations) are usually way too salty. I opt for the meals since their sides are actually good for my tastes. Their potato salad is the style I like. Most of the sides are really good as well, but you can only have so many. Their rolls are fluffy and great as well. While Ezell's might not be the perfect spot for those wanting "very spicy or hot chicken", for me everything about their food works for me.
google avatar

Paul A.

Yelp
Great fried chickens. Not oily. Better than KFC. it is not salty which is good. They charge for sauce (if the chosen menu not including it). So we skipped and try it without sauce. The bbq beans side dish serve very well as bbq sauce alternative.

Carson C.

Yelp
DoorDash. Beans are great and will get again. Spicy chicken is excellent. Rolls are nice and fluffy. Glad I tried it. I'm sure I'll get it again.

Yelp
I did not realize Guy Fieri had come here but as always, his face is inside a restaurant I stumble upon on Yelp! I got the snack pack which is one piece of chicken, 1 side, and a roll. I was able to pick whichever piece I wanted so I did a spicy breast and chose the Mac and cheese as my side. You walk up and line up and they take your order. Very friendly! They give you a number and then you sit down. It was a little bit of a wait but I was assuming I'd get a fresh piece. My food was brought to me when it was ready. I had noticed there was no roll so I got up to ask for it and was given it very quickly and apologetically. So, much like I read in reviews - the spicy isn't really spicy - it's just got a nice flavoring to it. The chicken was juicy and the outside was super crispy. The Mac and cheese was good. I was actually not impressed by the roll. Kind of bland and dry. All and all - I would come back for sure.
google avatar

Jeff G.

Yelp
Eh.... I guess with all the hype I was expecting more. Better service maybe some smiles to start. My chicken breast was dry AF. The thighs were good. Flavor was like okay. Nothing to write home about. And finally the biscuits were meehhhh... dry. I dunno. Maybe they are just working things out trying the get things dialed in. Potential is there and I'm sure I'll give it another shot cause so many people rave about 'em!
google avatar

Daniel C M.

Yelp
Dang, I've heard of this place before, but never been close to one before. A little pricey, but I think that has to do with costs are going up everywhere. Wasn't to long of a wait, I had the Spicy Chicken. Damn good! The place is casual, the staff is attentive. I'll be back for sure!
google avatar

mark a.

Yelp
Great fried chicken. Glad to see them on Oregon. Always brought it back to PDX when road tripping from Seattle
google avatar

Darryl E.

Yelp
This is a really good little place like I'm used to growing up within the South. I had the two piece spicy with Cole slaw and bbq beans. Wife had the tenders with potato salad. I read some people's yelps that said the spicy chicken wasn't spicy enough, wrong. This chicken has the right spice and the right amount, if you want more, add hot sauce like the grown ups do. Really good with Crystal Louisiana hot sauce. The beans were tangy, sweet, and not soft. Very nice. The Cole slaw was fabulous. Wife's chicken had fluffy lite breading and really juicy. Her potato salad was freaking awesome. The potatoes are cut smaller but still crunchy (nice change from large chunks). This was a really great meal at a good price. The young man at the front counter was awesome and gave me a Veterans discount. We will be returning.
google avatar

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
This is a black owned business https://ezellschicken.com/about-us/ I love the popcorn style Golden-Fried Okra It's available in half or full pound in original, spicy or half & half. The okra is crispy and yummy Okra is a must have for diehard Southern foodies. The Fried Chicken comes in original crispy or spicy or half and half. They are both amazing Comes with sides, I love their Mac & Cheese. Home baked Peach Cobbler and sweet potato pie for dessert if you still have room. This place needs to be added to Yelp's Black Owned Restaurants list.

Marissa A.

Yelp
The staff was very nice! The food came out quickly. The portions were disappointing for the price. Chicken strips were lackluster. I liked the spicy fried okra, but all the other sides I tried left me underwhelmed. Won't be coming back.

Yelp
So I was craving chicken wings on a Saturday morning and ended up driving past this place. Second thought said, now is the time to try Ezell's, even though they're not known for wings and because there's no long line. And thanks to the coronavirus, only a couple of DoorDashers were picking up before me. Now, I have a disclaimer in the fact that I'm forced to do takeout, versus dine in. I personally feel its key when trying fried chicken, and my drive home from here will in-turn have an effect on this review as well. But onward, so here's my take: Staff: No issues ordering, as they placed a protective glass barrier between register and customer. And I'm totally fine with it. I believe it was the manager that helped me at the register. She wore a mask and was cordial upon entrance. Dining & Atmosphere: The tables were clean, but obviously closed off. I can imagine all the seats taken, with patrons happily eating here too. But oh well, sign of the times for now. Famous Fried Chicken: I ordered 4 Pieces with 2 Side and 2 Rolls for ($12.99), half original half spicy. Excited to open up the box I sorta wondered what cuts these were other than recognizing the drumstick. My breast piece was somewhat butterflied, and the thigh was thin and skinny versus chubby and juicy looking. Odd first impression, but no biggie and onto texture. There wasn't a huge crunch, but that wasn't a huge back-breaker. The breast piece was not as tender or juicy as I had expected. The thigh was decent, although I'm more of thigh/drumstick fan anyways. As for the two spicy pieces, I'd have to say it was real light, and didn't feel any kick or anything. Almost like the spice was just a hint. I really couldn't distinguish between the original and spicy. To conclude, I guess (being from SoCal) I was totally expecting a good comparison to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. Ezell's was nearly similar, but if two fried chicken plates were side to side, I would know which is which and know I'd choose Roscoe's. There was nothing really memorable, but also nothing horrible in my opinion. I really really really just wanted to say: "So long fried rice, HELLO FRIED CHICKEN" - Chappelle Show (S2, Ep1) Tiger Woods But I didn't, so I'll have to give these guys another try.

Yelp
This is our family's Go To for fried chicken. We order from here for delivery or pick-up about once a month and it's always delicious!
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
First off I want to note I'm so grateful Ezell's is open and I was able to get free delivery so I could tip even more on my order! In an effort to get delivery more often through these bizarre times, it felt like the perfect opportunity go try out Ezell's. It's close to my house, but because lines were always so long, I had been putting off trying it. I was pretty underwhelmed with the menu items I chose. I got an order of the spicy chicken tenders with sides of Cajun fries and mac & cheese. I could tell by looking at the chicken it was not going to be spicy, and I was correct. It looked like plain fried chicken, and mostly tasted exactly like that. Granted, I have a fairly high spice tolerance, but if you are hoping for a Hattie B's level spice (or even a local place like Miss Delta) it will not hold up to that level of spice. I found it to be boring and fairly tasteless. The Mac and cheese was decent, but also felt lacking in flavor and had a weird mealy texture (see pic). The Cajun fries were definitely the best thing I ordered, I liked them a lot and wish this same level of flavor and spice represented well in the chicken. As much as I liked them, I wouldn't come back just for that. I see a lot of similar feedback, so I hope they up the spice level and work out a few kinks so I can try it again because I love this type of meal and loving adding more gems to Tigard!

Yelp
Came in and ordered to go. They weren't super busy, although it took a while for our order to be rung up. The cashier was new, and we were patient while she was learning the ropes. The manager greeted us when we came in, and later thanked us for stopping by. Brought the order home, and realized that they missed the rolls for the 8 piece chicken dinner combo. The chicken was good, a little overly breaded for our personal taste. The breading can be quite deceiving. Once you peel off a huge chunk of it, you notice quite a small piece of chicken. The mac and cheese had some seasoning to it, it wasn't bland like some other reviewers have encountered. The corn was just typical, and the baked beans had a barbecue taste to it. The roll we got with the two wing combo would be comparable to a regular popover. I'll definitely come by again when they're settled in, and try some other things from their menu.

Yelp
Sunday 11am (soft opening, grand opening on Feb 4th 2020) and already people were flocking to Ezell's! The service is spot on, and although it can be busy there is real care. The food too isn't complicated and messed with- just simple, good food and uncomplicated menu I got the small chicken tender combo- 3pc half and half (2 original tenders, 1 spicy), a roll, and a side (chose macaroni and cheese). All the tenders have a light batter, a little thicker than tempura which I enjoyed and it wasn't greasy. The spicy tender had a nice little kick and could see the heat continuing to build if I ordered more. Mac and cheese was pleasant- cheesy with the taste of multiple cheeses but again not overly done. The roll was soft and fluffy, I like how it has the shape of a muffin. A perfect size for a light meal. The interior has about 7 bench style tables (mix of 2 person and 4 person size) and 5 regular tables along the side. This doesn't stop the attention to detail as basic condiments and seasonings are on your table along with a paper towel roll and table service as staff brings you the food and will bus your table when done I like the options of half and half for tenders as some places charge for the split and how the menu states the general quantity for which combo or order you select. As well daily lunch specials that come with a drink. The service really blew me away. The employees greeted everyone who came in and helped customers with the menu, giving great recommendations. I saw each order (whether it was carry out or dine in) read back to the customer and checked, asked if anything else was needed, and given the enjoy your meal closing. It could of seemed just the rules but the staff members whatever their position gave sincere service and smiles. I would love to try the whole variety of chicken items, sides, and dessert too. I can see why Ezell's was highly anticipated

Yelp
Made it in for their soft opening and did not know what to expect. I've never had this famous chicken before today. The staff was still training and everyone was friendly & welcoming. I ordered the 8 piece original chicken, 4 rolls, corn, Mac & cheese, and a slice of the sweet potato pie. Then after I sat down and checked into Yelp, I saw photos of fries and got back in line to get those too! Oh my goodness, this is gonna be in the rotation! The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy & tender on the inside. My daughter was all about the fries & rolls in addition to the chicken and she's picky! Sweet potato pie is good, much like pumpkin pie. The food came out fast, hot, and fresh!

Leah S.

Yelp
My previous concerns about masking and safety aren't current anymore, so I'll update my rating to reflect the current state of things as I know them... ...which is, Chicken is still the best around, and I can eat a dozen rolls all on my own, so don't expect me to share :D Sometimes there can be a significant wait if they sold out of the exact type you want, if you're particular anyway, so I'd recommend calling or ordering ahead if you're in a rush.

Darren O.

Yelp
I am usually disappointed with places that are known for great fried chicken. Nothing I hate more than flavorless bland overcooked chicken. I can't tell you how many times I have gone to a chicken place and never gone back. Glad to say this will NOT be the case here! I ordered a 3 piece meal with 2 sides. I ordered the chicken spicy, with coleslaw and mashed potatoes and gravy. I would have loved to try some of the other sides, but figured the chicken had enough calories. The slaw was great, chopped fresh with I assume a slight horseradish kick. Could have been a different heat, just enough to have a little kick. Don't worry if you don't like spice, it's not hot, just flavorful. The potatoes are real, and are mashed in house. Texture is homemade and the gravy is good. Similar to KFC, but not copied. I got the spicy chicken- 3 pieces. The wing is huge with a few big bites of meat. The other pieces had a good amount of meat too. The spicy marinade and skin was perfect, not crazy hot but great flavor. Crispy skin and juicy meat. Literally perfect. Some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. The only place close or equal in our region that I've had is the Screen Door. Great job!

Yelp
Bought chicken for my nephews family. He didn't even know about the place and he lives only few miles away. The chicken was fresh, flavorful and had a really good crunch! Definitely going again. The rolls were fresh and super good

Yelp
This place seems a little bit overhyped. The spicy chicken tenders were not really spicy at all, the fried chicken gizzards were rather tough. Mashed potatoes were mediocre. The fried okra and the fried chicken drumsticks were pretty good. The roll was delicious, would definitely recommend one of those, it was fluffy and so good.

Yelp
I feel like two stars might be harsh but all of my comparisons are to a certain Louisiana based chain and having them at a 5 is just not right. But proportionally two might be more fitting. I got the two pieces with potatoes and beans. The kid got the Mac and cheese. The Mac was good as in better than the yellow garbage some places with similar colored cups pass off as such. Not too sharp for the kid but interesting enough for me to steal some. Way too much sauce on uninteresting beans. Weak gravy on the potatoes. I've definitely had better. The chicken was ok. I'm not sure what piece I got. It resembled a breast but wasn't a whole breast. Unfortunately under the underseasoned exterior was dried out flavorless white meat. The leg was decent but I need some more seasoning. Yeah I probably should have gotten the spicy but the original should not be this weak. The rolls were delicious. They were soft and tasty but actually cold to the touch. Friendly service allows me to justify the three but otherwise this chicken is under the Sanders line.

Yelp
After much Oprah-inspired hype, I'm afraid Ezell's came up short for me. The best part was the batter, which was nice and crispy and not too heavy. I'm a dark meat person, so I found the wing dry as expected for white meat. One thigh also seemed slightly overcooked and dry. Another thigh was more juicy. The Spicy option has a kick, but is not too spicy. The meat itself did not taste seasoned/brined. The rolls are light and slightly sweet. Service is fri

Yelp
Very average. Chicken was good but bland. Even the spicy!. Mac and cheese very bland as well. The beans were lots of liquid and too sweet. The rolls were good as well as the dipping sauces.

Yelp
We had a hankering for fried chicken and opted to stop at this new chicken joint. Strip mall location with plenty of parking. Staff was super friendly and helpful with answering our questions. We had half original and half spicy with Mac/cheese and mashed potato and gravy. It came with dinner rolls as well. The chicken was nice and crispy though I felt it could be seasoned a bit more, but nonetheless it was juicy and quite nice. The sides were quite good and the dinner rolls were really good as well. All in all, we enjoyed our meal with great R & B music playing. We will be back!

Yelp
Something new and they weren't busy. They got 3 stars only because they were friendly and have good service. I will break each item down; Spicy Chicken: where's the spice? Banana peppers have more kick Regular chicken: over cooked and dry flavorless Mac and cheese: sticky gunk with no taste, I peppered it up, but still couldn't it even half of it. Mashed potatoes and gravy: I'm sorry but why even offer it? Bland, and why don't chicken restaurants have chicken gravy? The roll: nothing but a warm piece of bread shaped like a muffin. World famous for good or bad. If your going to be famous I vote for the bad. If anything was worth eating the price was a good value.

Yelp
I was excited to try Ezell's after hearing about it being Oprah's favorite fried chicken. I ordered the one pound tenders with mac & cheese and mashed potatoes (also came with two dinner rolls). I don't get the hype of this place. The breading on the chicken has absolutely no flavor. I think Popeye's and Raising Cane's have better chicken tenders. The sides were the best part of the meal. For dipping sauces, I got the BBQ and honey mustard. I was disappointed that the honey mustard wasn't homemade. I forget the brand, but they just buy it wholesale. I took one bite of the rolls and threw them away. Maybe they're good when they're hot, but I found them to be very average. I would much rather have a biscuit or Texas toast. I would never pay to eat here again, but if it were free at a party or something, it's at least edible.

Yelp
This is was our first time to Ezell's and it was also our last. The chicken fingers were an odd yellow color, and a bit rubbery and slimy. The mashed potatoes and gravy were not fresh and most definitely box made with a gravy that had no flavor. The roll was good though. We paid just over $20 for one three tender meal, two fountain drinks and the mashed potatoes. Unfortunately, it was so gross we did not finish it. The food did come out hot though and it smelled good enough. The service was okay as well. We really wanted to love this place but first impression truly is everything and with so many other choices available, we'd never give this another shot. The restaurant's setting was clean and quaint though with nice lighting.

Yelp
Easily the best fried chicken available in the area. Having grown up in the Seattle area I was already familiar with Ezell's outstanding quality. There's a reason Oprah raves about it and the Seattle faithful rave about it. The buffalo chicken tenders are a go-to in my household. I'm partial to the fried okra.
