Pie and Mash Shops in London | London’s Best Pie and Mash | Eater London

"Opened in 1987, the Hoxton shop is the newest in the family’s East End empire, joining Broadway Market and Dalston, the latter already closed. While the space is relatively new, the recipe adheres to age-old tradition, with everything prepared on-site. Beef is butchered and minced in house, both sets of pastry dough are also prepared by the family: a thick suet base is utilised to hold the meat and gravy, topped with a short crust lid. Vegetarian pies are also available and cooked to order — made with vegetable suet pastry — yet gravy remains frowned upon. The liquor here is also thicker than typical, soupy in consistency and gloriously herbed." - Jonathan Hatchman

Ordered 2 x 2 pie & 1 mash and 1 large liquor Only received the liquor and 1 lot of 2 pie and 1 mash. Via just eat so don’t get money back Wasted £12 on nothing. Tried calling number on website a few times no answer left a message no response First and last time ordering from here. Editing to add - Having shared the 1 and only meal we received with my partner - it wasn’t nice

The worst pie and mash I have ever had!!! Hardly any liquor on my plate then cut into my pie and has a complete plate full of oil spurted on my plate. Could not eat it as it made me feel very I'll!

Handy local place to get my pie and mash fix every now and then. Parking is good, right out the front of the shop. Food reasonable and good portions. The customer experience is awful, you are greeted with pure misery from the women behind the counter. It’s laughable. Please don’t expect service with a smile and this has been on every occasion.

Hold the front page! A pie & mash shop that opens into the evening. The vinegar here, despite being synthetic vinegar, actually tastes of vinegar (synthetic vinegar usually tastes like water that's been meddled with). I cut into my pie & oil spurted out like water out of the crucified Holy Saviour. This is pie & mash as a delicacy.

Been coming here for years, just got 2 pie one mash and 1 pie and 1 mash for takeaway (was home in 3 minutes) pies had been thrown in so leaked through the bag and all food (apart from liquor) was not even room temperature and pies contain the smallest amount of meat - hoping after all this time it’s just a bad day but we will see

Wonderful Pie & Mash shop I take me & my boys here Charles, Harry, George & Arthur for a wonderful nourishing & affordable good old East End Meal!!! A very traditional interior that takes you back to the East Ends historical past! Highly recommended!!!

Traditional Pie & Mash, the shop wasn't very busy, and only waited 10 minutes for my pie & mash. I had double pie and double mash it cost me £8. So not to bad. The food was nice and I would go again. Being a Eastender who now lives by the Kent coast, I like trying different Pie & Mash shops all over the place. So my rating would be 7/10.

My first tasting of pie and mash. Was happy to try such a traditional dish. Was super tasty. Had somewhat rustic, family style taste. Also tried cold jellied eel, found very refreshing in a hot summer day. Went on a weekday in the afternoon so wasn't busy at all. Prices are very much okay too. The only downside were the chairs and tables. The chairs were too high up from the table and needed to lean down while eating.
