The Best West African Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"Vegans, rejoice — Fabaceae African Cuisine offers a full vegan menu of West African staples, including jollof rice, fufu with tofu soup, and blackeye pea porridge made with vegetable stock. Meat-eaters can find plenty to enjoy as well. The scotch eggs, suya, and flaky meat pies filled with beef and potato are house favorites." - Lane Gillespie

I love this place so much. It is amazing that they have vegan options. This finally allowed me to try Nigerian food for the first time as I transitioned after I discovered it the quality is 10 out of 10 and so is the customer service. I have never not been greeted with a great big smile. They are the best.

I want to applaud this restaurant for their inclusive menu. By offering vegan and non vegan options patrons don’t have to take turns over health and togetherness. We all dined together vegans and non vegans. There are a plethora of choices and each was better than the other, making choosing a chore. The meals were seasoned to perfection. We dey chop ooo. The service was great, the owners were friendly, and professional. Talk about patient, they made us feel at home. Our food was made fresh and in a timely manner. Yes!!! I highly recommend this hidden gem,

Just made #1 on my list for African cuisine. Spicy and good! 😋…. Okra, goat, ponded yam with passion lemonade! I’m here at the new location! I had to update my review. Come and support the new location! Still GREAT food! And you can dine in, now!

Great customer service, super nice. Very clean if you want to eat inside. I LOVE that you can buy a la carte. I got jollof rice, plaintains and a side of stew. No meat. Everything was fresh and delicious. Cant wait to try more

I actually frequent this place and the egusi is always on point but this last time was the worst not only did I have to argue with the lady that I called in my order for the chicken egusi and pounded yam for her to only tell me I didn’t and they didn’t have anymore chicken (something told me to just go then) but the guy who is always nice gave me the beef for the same price as the chicken that they no longer had I look in the container the see the 2 small pieces got home to enjoy this troublesome dish only to discover the meat tough old and dry I understand everybody has bad days and maybe this was one of them not sure if I will be returning though!!

Delicious! African food with the perfect spice level is hard to find. My husband is Nigerian and he absolutely loved everything. We will definitely be going back!
