"Fable in the Castro is home to one of our favorite garden patios in the city, and coming here is like eating in a Mediterranean greenhouse where you can sit and admire all of the leafy green plants from a cushioned booth. "The back patio at this casual American spot is an oasis in the city, which is a good thing since it makes up 90% of the restaurant (the inside is just a few lonely white tables next to a brown velvet booth). Requisite space heaters, blankets, and a mix of big palms and ferns make this the backyard of your dreams—or a nightmare, for the neighbors above. Settle in around one of the small wooden tables, and enjoy the romantic vibe over a menu of new American dishes. Potted plants, palms, and birds of paradise are everywhere, and the view is one best admired while seated in one of their white booths. The Castro spot reminds us of a secret Mediterranean garden, with tons of palms and string lights—and once you’re here, you’ll want to take your time sipping on a glass of wine.
