I grew up going to Fadi's Mediterranean Grill. I have always had very fond memories of this restaurant. I remember very big plates with delicious proteins, and an abundance of sides to choose from that always seemed to hit the spot. One of my favorite dishes growing up was the fried cauliflower.
After many years, I finally returned to Fadi's. This was my first time at the museum District location. From initial impression, the storefront was very small and there didn't seem to be as many options as I remembered. Following trends in the market, the prices at Fadis have also increased drastically. Nonetheless, I was still excited to try this delicious childhood memory.
I ordered the trio kabob combo, which featured shrimp, chicken, and beef kabobs over rice. For my two sides, I got a hummus and the fried cauliflower. The combos also come with a free pita. Overall, the dish was not as good as I remembered. The proteins could have been seasoned and cooked better. The cauliflower was a bit mushier and oilier than I remembered. The hummus was good, but the pita that went along with it did not have an enjoyable texture (kind of hard). Honestly, I think the best part about my meal was the rice that came with the proteins.
From what I remember, Fadi's used to give a more authentic feel that was run by people from the culture. Everyone in the store today was Spanish-speaking and it just didn't feel the same that they couldn't explain each hummus or dish to me. It is the equivalent of walking into a Chinese restaurant where none of the employees speak Chinese.
Honestly, I am not the biggest fan of this fadis location, however, I hope to return to the one in sugar land soon to compare the quality of the food and restaurant vibes and see if it is as good as I once experienced.
