"The longtime Irish bar Fado's closed after nearly 21 years of operation. Fado managed to host its last St. Patrick's Day celebration this year and closed on Tuesday, March 20. The owners were looking to relocate the bar somewhere else in Austin." - Nadia Chaudhury

I came on a quiet Sunday night, had amazing service and even better food. My chicken quesadillas came with 4, but I ate one. I was starving and these tasty grilled chicken quesadillas quickly became my favorite. Fado’s is laid back and casual, but still has a downtown feel.

Cool atmosphere and friendly bar staff. We were there during the day so I can't speak for the night scene, but we had a good time. Live band played some country classics, a little off beat for an irish pub, but it was cool nonetheless. Dance floor provides ample space to bust a move. Highly recommend the Irish coffee, otherwise it is a solid Irish Pub/Bar if that is your type of watering hole!

We cane here for lunch. The appetizers are amazing. I recommend the salmon bites and the pretzel is really freakishly big like they say. We had fish n chips. The fish fillets are big, one was plenty. Great food choices here. Our service was outstanding!! We will be back for dinner and drinks.

Love the Irish breakfast here! Also good Irish coffee, giant pretzels and fish and chips. A little over priced but super fun especially for soccer/gaelic football/rugby.

I've been to this place a few times to meet up with friends downtown. The food was good, and I could tell the kitchen staff has talent. Fantastic beer selection. The indoors was active and passionate, but not overly loud. The outdoors patio is nice. The lighting projects a warm and inviting mood. It's too bad about the TV that is always blaring in the corner.

Great pub. I really liked their vast selection of the best Irish whiskey they have. Also their prices are very fair and not over priced. They also pour good drinks and aren't going to pour a skimpy drink. I loved their cool atmosphere they have going on. I really liked how it kinda look/feels like Ireland inside. Oh and they were open on Sunday morning when other bars were closed. Major plus!

So many good memories here. You can watch any soccer game you want, the beers are great, you cannot beat the Irish atmosphere, and the shepherd's pie is just awesome. Can't beat the live music on the weekends either! Only complaint is that it's a bit pricey, and on occassion, the staff gets overwhelmed. But I'd definitely recommend you give this place a shot if you love a good pub!

Went for a Sunday brunch. We were greeted with a lively atmosphere full of patrons cheering on a Irish game of hurling. The brunch menu has an Irish flair, but there were few gluten free or vegetarian options. A bit pricey for what you're getting. I'll definitely go back to try their full menu.

Yelp
Ambiance is super cool, despite being sandwiched between rowdy Lavaca St Bar and all the bars/clubs on 4th. Looking for a place to watch March Madness and it felt like a humid day packed like sardines in a Boston T car when we walked in and out of Lavaca. We were quite enlightened to walk into The Pub, right around the corner, welcoming us to a cool and dim space with tiled floor, trimmed walls, and embellishments of faux trees. The space wasn't overly packed and a good amount of TVs to feel supported by at least three different sporting events. Even a TV in the men's room (not women's). Service was great! Regular table sweeps. Eric at the bar was very kind and accommodating. What to order? You're in an Irish Sports Bar. A Guinness is a must. The heads were perfect. Pastrami sandwich. You won't be disappointed. And the Burger was actually pretty good too, and unique with touches of arugula and mixed brisket and ground beef meat. Of course, it's always a fun touch to have some special sauce offered. The only thing I noticed that seemed unusual was, not only an automatic tip applied but also, a credit card processing fee added to the bill. Felt a little odd and out of place. Of course, I'm not sure if this is applied with regular service, as we ordered directly from the bar (despite sitting at a high top nearby). Another observation: a lot of people ordered wine and even espresso martinis here. Either they know something I don't, or this place calls to a variety of people. Cheers!

Yelp
This Irish pub turned out to be a pleasant surprise! I stumbled into it looking for a quick bite after a happy hour. It is tucked away in the middle of downtown with an unassuming entrance. However, this bar seems like an ideal spot to watch sports. Apparently it's an Iowa bar for all you Hawkeyes fans. The food was surprisingly good as well. Did I order a grilled chicken plate at a bar like a psycho? Yes. Was it actually really good? Also yes. All the fried food was delicious which most bars usually do well.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty empty. Gave the bartender time to chat, super friendly. Reuben rolls were really good. Think chilis Tex mex rolls but with Reuben fillings. Fish tacos were fine. Salsa was good, tortillas held up, fish wasn't too greasy. There was tons of TVs. Id consider coming back to watch a game. Really enjoyed that there was a fun twist on the menu items.

Yelp
Awesome place to watch a game. We watched an Iowa crowd mark Caitlyn Clark's last college game and it was memorable. Food is good but oh man that was a lot of sauce on the hot fried chicken sandwich .. it was pretty soggy. Most of the food we had was good. Beers easy to order even when busy ... table service convenient ordering via app. We liked it there !

Emily K.

Yelp
A classic venue to watch sports with a beer and fried food. It's clean and inviting and I love the mini corndogs. Service is efficient and they often have soccer games available to watch that might be harder to find other places. Generally a little more quiet and they are open early enough to bring your laptop and work while a game is on as well

Yelp
Alana is such a great bartender! Great atmosphere in here and lots of room to enjoy the evening! While trying to find a place that was open in the mid afternoon on a Friday, we found this cool Irish tavern called The Pub. They were just opening for the day so we were the only ones in there at first. My wife and I walked around inside checking out the amazing atmosphere in here. While Alana was opening the bar, we started talking to her about the place and Austin in general. She had some great suggestions of things to do in downtown Austin (ended up going to most of her recommendations for the remainder of our stay). Super great personality and I could imagine when the place was full, that she's even more awesome! We finished our drink and went over to another place for a little while that we were waiting to be able to go to. We came back her a couple hours later and it was a bit busier but still great! This place is apparently a popular spot to watch Soccer too!

Yelp
The Pub came in clutch as we were exploring some areas away from touristy 6th street. It was about 100 degrees, and we needed a beer. It was before lunch, and they were open. I had a standard Irish draft, and my wife and daughter had Finnish long drinks. 5 stars for the service and interior of this bar. It was beautiful inside. I wish I'd taken pictures. The two bartenders we talked to were so nice and helpful, giving us some information on places we wanted to go. One was the general manager. Everyone in Austin was incredibly nice and helpful. There were a couple of people having lunch and the food looked really good. The bangers and mash looked particularly tasty. It was too hot for us to eat this early, so after a short respite, we were back on the streets exploring. The Pub was a great Austin find.

Yelp
Great place to have a drink and watch Manchester United. Go with friends or make new one.

Yelp
Visited this place on a Friday after work, surprised that's it's quite empty. We ordered drinks and two dinner entrees - fish abs chips and spicy chicken sandwiche. The drinks are good, normal pub standard. The fish and chip is good with this really interesting green pea sauce, but the spicy fried chicken sandwich is kinda a disaster. They put way too much sauce on the burger and it's extremely spicy. We were on fire and had to drunk so much water. Well, the overall atmosphere is laid back and the bar is quite dark have you intimate feeling.

Yelp
Went on a Friday night and it was not packed, which is delightful for Austin. Great AC and good service. Drinks are priced for Austin, but it's a good time.

Yelp
Just No. Despite being in Fado's space and calling themselves an Irish Bar, they really aren't. Six Irish whiskies, some are just flavored Jameson. But the worst of it was they require a credit card to open a tab (perfectly normal), then charge you about a 4% CC fee and added an automatic 20% gratuity when there was no table service and bartenders who were frankly unpleasant. Overpriced, added fees, surly staff.

Yelp
The atmosphere was great and we would have loved to hang out and watch a game but we were disappointed when the bartender made ZERO effort to find the baseball game we were wanting to watch. We are traveling so have no idea what channel it would be on here and when we didn't know she didn't attempt to find it for us.

Yelp
The Pub was great. Darlin was so helpful & nice. Gave me recommendations for places in Austin. Very friendly atmosphere. Would come back.

Yelp
Cool place with great service and fair prices. TVs everywhere with showing sport. Green tea shots are 10/10!

Yelp
We have been regulars at this bar because they are a K-State bar and we like the vibe and atmosphere. Unfortunately we will be finding somewhere else to watch the games. The past couple of times, a few of the women behind the bar have been unnecessarily rude. We are understanding of the stress of bartending-- but even when it isn't busy, they were rude and dismissive. However, this didn't deter us from returning. We know bartending is stressful, and a couple rude employees don't define a bar. And, some of the employees are super nice! One girl in particular, who was blonde and wearing glasses, was super helpful and nice. We were here for a K-State championship game. It was going great until they changed the sound to a soccer game during halftime. We expected the sound to come back on, but it didn't. They told us if we wanted to hear the sound to go outside. We went, and it was on one TV. They had all of the K state fans standing around 1 TV to watch and hear sound. We are trying to be understanding -- but we come here because it's a K-State bar. To have K-state fans go outside to hear the game and only have it on one tv is ridiculous. That along with the dismissive attitude of some of the girls, we are no longer coming here. The decision was talked about by most of the fans outside as well.

Yelp
Very nice staff! Great drinks and chill atmosphere. My husband liked the beer selection too!

Yelp
Move over, gingerbread lattes, there's a new holiday hero in town! This candy cane espresso wasn't just good, it was an arctic blast of minty perfection. The espresso had a rich, dark roast that stood up to the peppermint without getting lost, and the sweet finish tasted like Christmas cookies dipped in liquid candy canes. If you're looking for a festive punch to kickstart your winter mornings, this is the one. Ask for Tara!

Yelp
We came here to watch the Iowa vs Iowa State game as this is the local Iowa bar in town. They were absolutely slammed so it took a little extra time to get drinks which was understandable. They have a plethora of TVs inside and out strategically placed for optimal viewing. There were even TVs over the urinals so you didn't have to miss any action. We ended up getting hungry so ordered some good. It was amazing! Their Nashville chicken was juicy and flavorful and the Irish nachos were absolutely delicious. We'd definitely come back to watch a game were we to visit ATX again.

Yelp
Place to go to watch MUFC. Good drinks and great breakfast. Staff here all friendly and open for us early every weekend to watch EPL. Give them your business. Good peeps.

Sean D.

Yelp
Ordered fish n chips. Received only to pieces of soggy fish. Peas served in a plastic cup. Barely a side of fries. Waiter never served water. I saw him once only yet charged an automatic $3.20 gratuity for a poor $16 plate. Very disappointed.

Erin B.

Yelp
We were looking for an Irish pub to watch the Notre Dame game and The Pub did not disappoint! There were multiple couches/nooks/seating options each with their own TV's that the bar staff happily put on whatever game you wanted. It was awesome! Also they had a great ordering system that you just scanned the QR code and ordered and payed and then your drink and food showed up to your table number. It was great! The drinks were good, food was delicious and ambiance was amazing! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Go somewhere else. Waited on the bartender on Sunday afternoon for 20 minutes with no acknowledgement, while he chatted and was on his phone with people at the bar for him to ask if we even brought our IDs. Of course, we're in bar. Could tell he didn't want to serve. Just plain rude. Don't waste your time or money going here. Couldn't leave zero stars unfortunately.

Katelyn S.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, but they either don't have air conditioning or it doesn't work. I went with a friend to watch the Iowa football game and it was just as hot inside as outside. The temperature made it not enjoyable to watch a game. I'm sure the atmosphere would be cool in the winter but steer clear from May until late October.

Charles T.

Yelp
Literally the best sports bar in Austin. Hands down. Great service, great owner, great atmosphere. If you're thinking about going somewhere else you're making a mistake. Come here. Period. Nuff said.
