Fair Oaks Pharmacy (est 1915) is a family owned and the oldest landmark in South Pasadena. It’s a vintage corner shop that offer soda fountain, ice cream, candy, toys, merch & pharmacy shop on Fair Oaks avenue. I have walked past by this shop for years and never actually walk-inside until today. The best place to enjoy a sundae, shake, banana split or simple cone is a vintage soda shoppe. Once you step through the doors at Fair Oaks there is a distinctively different vibe. Staff were energetic and friendly. I’m glad a visited this shop. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and I recommend them.

I really enjoy this place. The interior is so cute with its old vintage look, and all of the fun nostalgic toys and treats inside. I went a couple weeks prior, and the sodas, sundaes and milkshakes are absolutely delicious. They were so good, i wanted to share the experience with my family. We did get turned away by 4:35pm, because LAST CALL IS AT 4:30. We drove quite a distance not knowing there was a cut off. Will definitely come sooner now that we are informed. Btw, the guy with the glasses has excellent customer service. As we were about to leave, he let us know that we could still browse the store until closing. I can understand how annoying it is to have last minute customers, but i do appreciate the service with a smile.

I didn’t notice this place until today and I’m just so happy to have went in! I enjoyed it so much that I really just want to share the positive experience... It’s an old school soda and ice cream shop with all the old candies, nostalgic games, and toys for sale as well. The atmosphere is absolutely charming. It’s all original like something you’d see in an old movie. They make all the soda’s in house, have egg creams, floats, sundaes, and shakes. They play all the oldies too so it really sets the tone as soon as you walk in… it’s like a little time portal in such a great way. All around cute, peaceful spot to grab a “drink” and catch up. And the shakes are really great! We had a banana milk shake and it was a proper banana milkshake without fake favor and the ice cream was perfectly sweet. The staff were so incredibly friendly as well which really made the experience lovely. There is a very cute little compounding pharmacy attached as well which is also very cute. Looking forward to coming back here!

Had a strawberry phosphate soda - tangy and sweet. Felt pretty unique and the interior feels nostalgic. Found a lot of candies from childhood.

Great ready for a treat! Fair Oaks Pharmacy has been serving since 1915 and a great start/end to Route 66. Apart from the Soda fountain, they have a ‘Celebration of Pop Culture’ room with purchasable retro memorabilia from 50s to the 90s! Try out items like the Coca Cola Sundae or an old fashioned ice cream float, where else would you get them!

This place is one of the oldest buildings in Los Angeles. It even smells old. They are packed with candy, and nostalgic toys, even from my childhood in the early 80's in the Midwest. My hearty was so happy walking in, the artists did a great job with the atmosphere ( the moon and rain clouds). really well done. Definitely will be back.

Such a unique and fun place! We were welcomed by 2 friendly staff members who were helpful with it being our 1st time there. I paid $3 for a 1 scoop cone! I was blown away by the size and how affordable it was. Lots of cute toys and books for kids. The food menu sounded great! I'll be getting something from their next time 😋 support local! They're awesome. Update: they have amazing french fries! We got the regular. And the banana split sundae was superb. The ice cream was so smooth and had a great taste. They truly never disappoint 5/25/21 THEY RE-OPENED 🙌 ABOUT TIME heh. I've been waiting months and so glad they're back. Serving ice cream only right now, no food from the restaurant. Our visit was great, got the bubble gum flavor. Their was only 1 girl serving today. Felt a little bad since it got busy and people left 😕 I did not mind waiting at all. Told her to take her time :) great service as always. Can't wait for the kitchen to open!

Fair Oaks Pharmacy is a classic location. Ice cream parlor with a real pharmacy. Brings back nostalgic feelings of the old days. They have a great selection of desserts, the portions are huge, be for warned. The ice cream is very average tasting, not to say it taste bad. They also have a selection of regular food, such as burgers and fries. The rest of the pharmacy has toys and gifts, nicnacs and other Route 66 related merchandise. I appreciate the old games and toys, the stuff you may had found in the 50’s. The atmosphere is so delightful. Fun for a date, family or just friends getting together to eat the most expensive dessert I’ve ever seen “the sink” costing a whopping $35. (See picture below)

Yelp
What We Order: -Chocolate Float $9 -Softball Scoop $7 Fair Oaks Pharmacy was established in 1915. A South Pasadena landmark with a working and operating pharmacy. They are most known for the historic soda fountain with ice cream desserts. They have a lot of different kinds of retro candy and souvenirs. I asked for recommendations of some of their most popular items and was told that the Chocolate Float was divine. I need something of such high praised deserved to me taste for me to see for myself. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was one of the best floats I've ever had. It was really good! I will definitely order it again when I come back. My son wanted ice cream. He got strawberry ice cream with whipped cream, a cherry and some candy lego pieces. He really enjoyed the ice cream sundae. In my personal opinion, the ice cream on its own is nothing special to write about as its you standard Breyer's kind of ice cream, but made into a Chocolate float then it becomes something special. My final verdict is to do yourself a favor find some time during the week to come out to Fair Oaks Pharmacy and pick yourself up a Chocolate Float. They have lot's of old timey toys and candy from different eras. It was really see their cute little museum in the back where they showcased different toys from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s etc. I really enjoyed the nostalgia of seeing some of the kinds of toys I grew up with. FYI: They are closed on the weekends! Come during the week. I promise you it is worth it.

Yelp
I recently visited Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain for the All Hallows Eve event. It was nice. I liked seeing vintage toys as decor. The staff wasn't serving sundaes at the time, but if they were I would have loved to try one.

Yelp
Cute unique nostalgic place! A bit on the pricy side, but you pay for location and ambiance. I love looking around and being reminded of my childhood. Granted, this ages me! But who hasn't heard of I love Lucy and the like!? A plus, my dog used to get her pharmaceuticals from here! They work with vets ;)

Mabel C.

Yelp
A neat place essentially frozen in time! It's still a functioning pharmacy from many years ago, with plenty of history behind this location! It definitely leans into that time, keeping the front wood bar, and vintage signage and decor. The old wooden bat serves cold and refreshing malts, fantastic on ant hot summer day. The server was super nice and explained to me all thier seasonal flavors even though I ended up opting for normal chocolate. But you can't beat the classics, right? While I was waiting for my order I walked around- as they also sell an assortment of retro and new candy, silly small toys, gadgets, and souvenirs! It felt very reminiscent of a time I was younger and had no worries, I'm sure younger me would've loved to come here after-school for a sweet treat or a milkshake! I was called for my chocolate malt, and not only was it massive, it was so delicious on a hot day! I bought a few trinkets, had my malt in a cup to go and I was off running the rest of my errands. They also have old fashioned banana split sundays, which I thought would be great to share with friends or a date. If you like the look of retro diners of the 50's with some history, I'd think this is a great place to check out! Or if you like malts and icecream Sundays, this is worth checking out too! There's plenty of street parking, so, take a small pit stop to go back in time and enjoy a malt shake while you're at it!

Yelp
The soda fountain is gorgeous. Yelp was very misleading though with menus showing lunch items- I came here expecting to order a salad while my kids had ice cream but they only serve dessert, despite photos of an old menu showing burgers, sandwiches, etc. I hadn't eaten lunch before I came here and made the mistake of waiting.. That being said, being forced to order an ice cream sundae wasn't the worst outcome and we had a wonderful and delicious time sitting at the soda bar. Lots of cool old candies and toys for purchase too, which was fun and a bit of a nightmare at the same time since my kids wanted all of those things and I wasn't planning to buy anything.

Gregory M.

Yelp
This place is definitely something else. A fifties style soda fountain adjoining a contemporary compounding pharmacy. Nearly 110 years old, at Fair Oaks you can get a sundae or malted AND pick up your Lexapro: a nice jab and right hook in the fight against depression. Along with meds and sweet treats, there's also a gift shop documenting pop culture from the fifties (I Love Lucy is particularly well represented) to the late eighties and nineties (Guinan figurines from Star Trek TNG, church crown and all!) This is certainly a fun place to stroll through and definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. Or need to pick up your medications.

Jon R.

Yelp
The soda jerk? Is that the right term? The guy behind the bar was cool and gave us some good recommendations. Ice cream was good and the sour soda was cool. Would have been 5/5 but this was our 4th time trying to come to try it out for the first time, the other times were closed for filming or times weren't open vs what we looked up online .

Summer P.

Yelp
This place is so fun! An authentically old pharmacy and soda fountain? On the west coast? You bet! In operation since 1915. There's an actual pharmacy, shop with retro gifts and vintage candy. And a soda fountain complete with ice cream sodas and all sorts of tasty old-fashioned treats. With new twists like a coke sundae topped with gummy colas! Support this gem. For nostalgia sake! We need to keep these treasures alive.

Yelp
What an experience! It's like stepping back in time! I've been meaning to visit this soda fountain for years and check it off my bucket list - so for National Vanilla Milkshake Day (6/20/23) I finally made an excuse to go lol - What a treat! They've really done a wonderful job preserving the whimsical and magical feel of an authentic soda fountain...I had a blast sitting at the counter watching the staff member make my shake haha! And she was so nice and welcoming - really made the visit even better. They have all sorts of ice cream desserts - sundaes, shakes, floats, and everything in between. They have a wide variety of flavors too - their newest being buttered popcorn which I'm definitely going to come back to try! In addition to the soda fountain, they have a large candy store - full of vintage candies and toys - so fun to browse and I imagine this is every kids wonderland lol. They also have a working pharmacy. Unfortunately I had to knock a couple of stars off and here's why - my vanilla shake was absolutely bland. It didn't have any flavor to it at all - basically just tasted like cold milk. I was bummed - especially bc the milkshakes will run you almost $11 after tax. AND they no longer serve them in the traditional glasses - they only use plastic to-go cups so that really bummed me out too. That being said - I'd still like to come back and try other flavors before giving a full verdict. Bc I did have a lovely experience just from the whimsical, nostalgic ambiance alone - And if they brought back the glasses so you can get the full fountain experience , I'd definitely be a repeat customer! I only saw street parking but didn't have any issues finding a spot. The pharmacy opens at 9am but the soda fountain opens at 1130am. And they also no longer serve food - only ice cream concoctions.

Yelp
This place was a blast from the past. But the blast was controlled, and it only affected me, and it gave me some bruises and scratches. The blast was not overwhelming but still so strong that I felt like I had to give this place five stars. Maybe I am feeling generous cause I visited on my vacation so I had the presence of mind to taste it as a whole, and not just judge it by a single taste. One time I was watching tv and an egg cream was ordered. I thought, what exactly is an Egg Cream and how is egg involved in the process. But here I found out that an egg cream has nothing do with eggs. It is simply chocolate milk with seltzer. I am sorry I spoiled someone's future discovery by describing that an egg cream does not have actual egg in it. I loved how I discovered what an egg cream actually is. The chocolate milk seltzer combo was unique, yet I do not crave it a new. Although, I loved ice-cold, chocolate milk. But, hey, I get to say I had it. I also had a small cookie lover's sundae. It was not the actual name, but, it is close enough in spirit to know. The cookie Sunday was good but nothing to say grand things about. I guess, I selected this item because I love cookies and creams ice cream but this was more ice cream with choc. chip chunks not with Oreos, as I expect cookies and ice cream to be. Then I heard another customer with kids order a coffee milkshake. My interest was piqued. I ordered it and it was a vanilla milkshake with brewed coffee mixed in. I am a coffee lover and a milkshake lover so I could not go out without trying the concoction of two items I loved. And this milkshake was the cat's meow. It was not coffee ice cream, it was ice cream with brewed coffee mixed in. I suspect that this is how they made blended ice creams around the 1915's cause they yet not had the technology to blend the two. So I felt like I did go back to the past for a sip and swirl. The stores have knick knacks. I bought two things. I bought a magnet with a reminder to live life without expectations and I try to. It was a grand pick. I also bought a kalediscope. I used it and I loved it. Then I lost it. It is probably under my car. I would totally go back to this place if I was in the area. I would not necessarily make a trip out there. You should though. It has different concoctions like a coke Sundae with coke gummies. It also has a working pharmacy which was kind of awesome. The drawback is that the fountain can get crowded. So you might not find a stool for you. And you might have to wait and deal with awkwardness of who goes first. But feel like a kiddo again, and have an egg cream or a spoonful of ice cream, I did, and I was happy I did it.

William M.

Yelp
Good on the ice cream quality and friendly service, but it's sadly not the true pharmacy and soda counter from years past. I realize it's very difficult to truly have the places we had back then such as the classics like Schwab's (LA), Watson's (Orange) and Harriman Jones (Long Beach).

Celeste V.

Yelp
My sister and I sat down at the bar, excited for the 50s-style soda fountain experience. Unfortunately, it seems like along with the old-fashioned aesthetic comes the old-fashioned mindset about how to treat people of color. The barstools were understandably crowded on such a hot day, so we patiently waited for our turn as the staff moved down the line. However, once our turn arrived, the staff completely ignored us and never took our order. We gave them the benefit of the doubt but became increasingly frustrated when new customers entered and were tended to, while we were continuously ignored. The two employees behind the counter walked by us repeatedly but never took our order. It takes a lot for me to come to these conclusions, but considering that every customer in the establishment was white except for my sister and I, I am saddened to think we were being ignored due to the color of our skin. After 20 minutes of sitting at the bar with no acknowledgement, we made the decision to walk out. Considering Fair Oaks Pharmacy is a South Pas staple, we were excited to try it. Unfortunately, we will not be back. I hope this was an isolated incident, but I will still never be returning.

Brittany K.

Yelp
The cookie dough malt is OUT OF THIS WORLD. This place is a blast from the past. Love it.

J M.

Yelp
The Soda Fountain pharmacy on Fairoaks is not the Soda Fountain pharmacy of old. This was a welcoming neighborhood, establishment for families to enjoy not anymore. Look at the photos to see for yourself. There are fake favorable reviews. There is nothing true about them. Covid is completely over & done! I say nothing about the owner, Zahra Chahichi Shahniani, and her pharmaceutical abilities. FYI, if you decide to go, check the hours operation.

Dani D.

Yelp
Pretty neat little place! We came here after a morning at The Huntington, since they're just a few miles from each other, and it was nice to end our excursion with some fresh milkshakes. They currently DO NOT have their full menu (and apparently haven't been serving food since pre-Covid) so expect just ice cream and sodas here, plus their fun pharmacy offerings of candy and knick-knacks. We were bummed we couldn't have a full lunch here as planned. It's definitely a place to come for ambiance more than anything, where it feels like you've gone back in time. The staff were friendly and helpful with making our order choices as they managed a growing afternoon crowd. Be sure to sit at the counter for the best service! You have to order up there anyway, paying at the register in the center of the shop afterward. I highly recommend getting a milkshake here, since they make them special with their hand-dipped method; the banana one was yummy! Not too sweet and very refreshing, for something as heavy as ice cream. Glad we stopped in here!

Don B.

Yelp
Stopped by for a shareable banana split midday on a Monday with my daughters based on review photos. The interior is definitely a throwback in time with soda counter, candy, pictures, and artwork. It was cool! The soda jerk and cashier were both really friendly, parking was along Fair Oaks, and the shared moment was priceless. Ice cream seems to make everything better.

P K.

Yelp
INCREDIBLE ice cream creations - old-timey DIY soda fountain straight from the 1950s but with some specials and popular combos suggested. The very friendly staff noted the most popular creation and WHY it was extra extra which was a FANTASTIC idea that I ENJOYED IMMENSELY but I am also a big fan of Coke and Coke floats. THE DECOR ALONE is SO WORTH the trip! A mini tour through the ages of our and our grandparents & parents youth in two rooms--SWEETS, GAMES and decor. To view and most to purchase so bring your savings ahead As I learned on SPECTRUM NEWS (yeah our cable TV & internet provider has a really informative local channel 200), the concept behind a soda shop combined with a pharmacy was because the old style medicineS had TERRIBLE flavors! So not only is there fun to be had - the wellness peeps in your group can grab an actual prescription and browse the third room for even more goodies. The stores immediately surrounding this magical spot looked REALLLy spectacular too (two bookstores or more, interior design and boutique clothing!!) and the food at Rice & NORI across the street to the south was GREAT and also had other intriguing tidbits.

Neil K.

Yelp
Great vibes and ice cream. 50s themed and Brandon was very friendly. Old time Rock and Roll music can't be beat!

Julian V.

Yelp
It would be such a cute place but the hours are atrocious! Soda fountain is CLOSED on Saturday and Sunday. During the week they stop serving at 4:30. So while the pharmacy section may be opened at the hours listed, the soda fountain is not.

Christine C.

Yelp
Not as great as it used to be unfortunately. Although I'm quite happy that this place stayed open and continued post covid, however their downsized menu also took out the fun in their desserts. The menu doesn't match the rest of the store anymore. Even as we dined in, they now only serve desserts in their take-away cups. They no longer serve hot food, so we ordered their hot chocolate fudge sundae. It really was disappointing when we got it. The taste was great though, but presentation wise, not that good

David H.

Yelp
It's a cute soda fountain and pharmacy located in South Pasadena on Historic Route 66. Ended up taking a day off during the week. Wish they had better hours. Saturday they are only open until 1PM and closed on Sunday. Monday through Friday only open until 5:00 PM. Could have another cashier on staff as the cashier and soda person was the same so had to wait until they finished with any sodas or shakes if you want to buy any items or souvenirs from the store.

Elena C.

Yelp
Hands down the best egg cream ever! The rest of my words is just to fill up Yelp's quota. Enough said.

Doc J.

Yelp
5 stars! Everything we were hoping for in an old fashion nostalgic blast from the past old school Soda Fountain that makes old fashion sodas! We had a rootbeer float and an old fashion coke made the old school way. The coke for everyone wondering did not taste as sweet and carbonated as the coke you know today. I actually loved it and how different it tasted and can't wait to go back and try all the different flavors and sodas that you can't really get anywhere else in Southern California or even on the West Coast? The gentlemen who was making the drinks was really friendly and professional and holding the fort down for the 15 or so people inside drinking and eating ice cream. He actually looked positive and happy to work there which also made you feel good to be there as well. There is free parking for a few hours around the back if anyone was wondering and yes they were playing all the classic legendary hits from the jukebox of 1940's and 1950's! I love the movie Back to The Future and this place gave me those awesome nostalgic vibes when Marty went back to 1955! We'll definitely go back and try ALL the flavors!

Kirsten H.

Yelp
What a fantastic spot! We came in on a Friday afternoon for a little treat, and were not disappointed. The place gave a mid-western old time soda counter vibe combined with a little Hollywood flair. The ice cream treats were delicious, and made by the extremely friendly owner, Brandon, who kept us entertained the whole time. Be warned, the banana split is enough for at least 4 people! In all, well worth your money and a stop in if you have some weekday free time.

Gohar K.

Yelp
I like stopping by for ice cream with my kids once in a while when in Pasadena. This place has been here for a very long time. Originally a pharmacy (still operating) then they added the ice cream parlor and it's still here with that old charm/character. You will find nostalgic games, toys, candy for sale .. Great place for purchasing gifts. They have classic milkshakes, ice cream sundaes and lots more. I like their hot fudge sundae and the warm brownie Sunday. Whatever you chose you won't be disappointed. During the pandemic they have a few restrictions such as paper cups instead of the nice glass or stainless steel cups. But hopeful soon they will serve in those cause it makes it really fun to eat out of those nice cups.

Malisa C.

Yelp
Checked Yelp to confirm what time FOP opened. Got here at 9:05am. The front door was open AND the sign on the door read "COME IN WE'RE OPEN". So we walk in but some lady immediately starts yelling at us, saying they aren't open?! She kept saying that they weren't open until 11:30 and repeated that statement three times... It was very odd... So I asked if the pharmacy was open because I was going to pick up some Advil and she said I could ONLY go in if I had a prescription. She was clearly annoyed and repeated herself AGAIN- I told her we checked the hours before getting there and not to worry because wouldn't be coming back EVER.

J. D.

Yelp
I have a question. "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE?" Did ownership change? Was the plan to drive this wonderful place into the ground??? If so, the plan is totally working. It used to be so fun to go here on a Saturday evening or a Sunday afternoon to share an ice cream sundae with my boy. We used to adore it! Then we'd look at all the fun collectibles, silly stuff in the gift shop. Such a fun experience. This place is a total disaster now. Avoid it like the plague!

Diane S.

Yelp
Malt was delicious but sad no more hot food, just cool old stuff & soda fountain. Still worth the stop

Bonqui J.

Yelp
My friend and I visited here about a month ago. I was so very excited to share this place with her, I've been enjoying ice cream here since I was 5. We arrived at around 4 pm during the week (closes at 5pm) and when we walked in we decided to look around. We took in the decor before deciding to hop in line at the counter for some ice cream. As we stood in line for a couple minutes, we hear the worker behind the counter tell the couple in front of us that they will be the last customers of the day. This is EXTREMELY upsetting. Fair Oaks Pharmacy, teach your staff how to confront customers. My friend and I walked out and made eye contact with the worker behind the counter who quickly looked away. It is rude to expect people to ear hustle into others conversations. Walking in as we walked out was a group of about 4. My friend and I decided to stick around for a while because we had a suspicion that the group of 4 would be served and we were correct. Also what happened to the original uniform? The worker was practically flashing us from how short his shorts were. Fair Oaks, do better. Edit: I didn't want to make assumptions but after looking at other bad reviews about this place I'd like to add that me and my friend were the only non white people in the establishment. I've never accused anyone of treating me differently for the color of my skin but it genuinely felt like that's what was happening.

Jason V.

Yelp
Would've given this a 5-star rating had their kitchen been open (I mean, I know this is California, where everyone votes the same...but still). But it's still a neat nostalgic place on old Route 66. Of course, it has lots of great history. Its exterior was featured in a Brady Bunch episode (you know, the one where Marsha and Peter get jobs as ice cream scoopers). Me and my friend went in about an hour before they closed and we both had enormous sundaes. I even went overboard and bought an egg cream soda! But I figured it was now or never. Great service and it definitely had that old-school soda fountain vibe. The one thing that really sucked was the parking, but we were lucky to park, literally, in front of the shop. Be sure to buy plenty of souvenirs and old-school candy here. Recommended!

Priscilla F.

Yelp
My grandpa swears by this place so I decided to try a classic milk shake from Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain. The inside is so cute and classic! It is very chill inside has a bar where they make shakes. They do everything old fashion here so of course it'll take some time! Definitely the best milkshake I've ever had thank you Grandpa for the recommendation. I recommend everyone come here at LEAST once! Yum

David P.

Yelp
I am very sad to report this once charming and delightful service oriented, fun, loving soda, fountain/pharmacy is a ghost of its former self. The first time I came here was approximately 20 years ago. It was bustling and served the most amazing soda fountain ice cream concoctions. Sadly, gone are the whimsical, serving plates and bowls, as well as the friendly service from the soda jerk. They no longer have a kitchen nor serve food. And for that matter, they don't even have proper spoons to eat the sundae they sell you. It's quite the shame that the current ownership has dialed back their offerings so greatly. I wonder if they feel like it's not worth it to offer the services they wanted. But given the ghost that it is currently, I'm sure that the soda fountain will be out of business, because who would want to come? If they brought it back to even half of its former glory, I would be a customer for life.

April S.

Yelp
This is a great pharmacy! The owner is extremely helpful and professional with her work! My patients love coming to this pharmacy and I am grateful to them for their beautiful service!

Brian K.

Yelp
A truly classic soda/coffee shop. Great flavors, friendly service, 50's music and tons of old times candy and nostalgia. The real deal.

Dean C.

Yelp
Really cool old fashion soda fountain. They also have nostalgic toys and candies from 'the old days'. The people working are really friendly and bopping to the 50's music!

Tyler Z.

Yelp
What an outrageous disappointment. I drove all the way down with my grandmother, connecting to historic Route 66 to southern Kansas from Omaha. It was her lifelong dream to ride Americas Main Street through the Midwestern United States to Santa Monica. The ONE thing she absolutely wanted to do more than anything else was to grab an ice cream float at the fair oaks soda fountain. THE ONE THING SHE WANTED TO DO WAS THAT! She talked about it the whole ride down. She looked forward to it her whole life. We got caught up in a little more stoppage than we anticipated on route 66 near Barstow, but we still got there just in time for a drank. The hours did say open until 5 PM after all. Considering the fact that we worked our entire trip around these extremely tight hours, we were both thrilled and relieved to see that we had a half hour remaining. Then the nightmare struck. We walk in to the pharmacy in bliss and awe, and before I can even think or breathe, we were told that the fountain was closed. My heart sank. I thought I would just die. I could just see the look of pain, agony, and devastation in my poor grandmothers heart. They told us we could still walk around and look, so we thought we'd make the most of it and did. However, every time someone would walk in the store, they would repeat the same daunting phrase that the soda fountain was closed. Each time they said it, it felt like a dagger in my heart. Reigniting the PTSD from just a few moments before. Each time it happened, the sadness and grief sparked in my poor grandmothers face. I couldn't get out of there soon enough. It changed our entire trip! She spent her life looking forward to that moment. We put so much into going! She's an older lady, and with that in mind I'm just not sure we will even get another chance!! I just don't understand why an establishment would limit their hours so heavily! On top of that, why would they close even earlier than advertised? 5 pm is what they said, and what a simple falsehood! I could see closing at 5 on Sunday, but they aren't even open on weekends! What a shame fair oaks pharmacy. You broke my poor grandmothers heart and you broke mine. I'm not sure if I'll ever get over it. Think about your actions and the effects it has on other people. You took a great idea and squandered it with stupid politics. All those hours on the road, all that money, all that traffic, all that time, just to miss an opportunity by two minutes. Get real, get right. Such a bummer!!!!

Yelp
The most nostalgic soda fountain I've ever been to. So many fun retro things to look at. The decoration is gorgeous and the sundaes, shakes and sodas are delicious!!! I can't get enough of this place!

Yelp
Besides being very rude, this woman that runs this pharmacy is unethical. She shared my information with the local Rite Aid pharmacy, telling untruths and gossip about me. I really don't how businesses/pharmacists like this woman stay in business, and don't get their license suspended or revoked. I don't know if sharing information on customers is unethical, or actually against the law. Also, she told me that my insurance company told her to tell me that I had to buy all my prescriptions from one place...LOL. I am sure my insurance would have told me, not her if this was accurate. How dumb she shows she really is. The local Rite Aid in South Pasadena made a lot of problems for me after this woman gossiped about me to them. Hence, I stopped going to both places. And, the Rite Aid followed me making trouble to the new pharmacy I bought from. This occurred quite a while back, and still now and then a couple of pharmacies I have gone to the trouble they made follows me. I am a senior citizen with chronic physical health problems, and I don't need the problems these two pharmacies in South Pasadena have caused me. Neither of them have any respect, or care for customers as you would think these co-called health care workers should have. It just goes to show what our society in Southern CA, and all over the country has come to. No good, at all anymore. I would suggest avoiding this place, both of these pharmacies at all costs. They have no respect, rude, VERY rude, obviously unprofessional, and unethical. Man, I wish I wish I had never gone to either, but this Fair Oaks Pharmacy is the one that started to whole thing. She Armenian rude lady that runs the place started it all. OH, I feel so sorry for her assistants. From just the time I was going there, two or three months time she went through three workers. Its a tiny place and they work right under her nose, and they acted scared to say anything she didn't want them to say. When she was telling me that my insurance had her to tell me I had to get all my medicines from one pharmacy, I said "That sounds strange", and she yelled at me and said "No, its not strange". And, her assistant acted scared of her and said "Yes, something new"...LOL Also, I had refills on prescriptions in her computer system that she deleted. I didn't want to deal with her anymore about it, so I let it go and called my doctor and told him about her, and they refilled them at a whole new pharmacy. Doctor told me to just move on and not deal with her. And, I did that for a couple of years, but I think this must be told, as the public should know there are many unethical businesses out there. You shouldn't just walk in and think you private, and personal information is safe just because it should be.

Yelp
When my mom and I walked in neither of us was greeted or even acknowledged. Confused at where to order, we walked around the building. I mean we went to order a burger and ice cream so I guess we should take a sit by the front even though the person clearly never said hi or gave any type of eye contact. Nor was there any menus. Finally we asked do you serve food? No, no food only ice cream and soda. Now it would be probably perfect if we already ate but we didn't. We mentioned we saw on Yelp the menu and he said yeah that's not updated. Clearly under category it includes burgers too. I would probably give higher stars if we were just acknowledged. I imagine their ice cream is good. However this Yelp page needs to be updated. There is no food besides soda and ice cream here. So think of it as a dessert place. I probably won't be back because i felt like I was intruding when we walked in. Not inviting. I really wanted to like the diner theme.

Yelp
I showed up at 4:40 PM to get an ice cream to support small business. Regrettably, the soda jerk told me he just had the last call at 4:30 pm. Prior to going, I looked at their website and no where does it state they have a last call at 4:30 pm. He locked the doors at 4:50 pm. I fought traffic after getting off work to try and get my ice cream only to be turned away so the soda jerk could close early. I would go on the weekend. It they are closed. Terrible service.

Yelp
My Dad lived in South Pasadena in '57 before his family moved back to GA...said it going to a malt shop down the street with his Dad was the sweetest of childhood memories. For his 75th birthday I brought him out to CA and did a quick search for any malt shop in the area. We found his old house and elementary school....and then this place. Not only is it located where he used to go, but thriving on the '50's theme. Much more than a theme though. They made the malts and shakes traditionally. When the owner and some other workers heard my Dad's story they proudly gave him a personal tour!

Yelp
Must not have paid attention. No real fancy sundaes or meals. Basic stuff only. Very disappointing. Apparently menu changed when Covid hit. So no fancy toffee sundae today. Decor is cute. We drove an hour to see the place.

Yelp
We walked in 2 Saturdays ago, the door was open, "open" sign hung from the door. I said hello about 3 times before the rude older woman came from behind the wall, and told me they were closed.. she turned around and I was left there with my daughters. I asked if they would be open soon, a few seconds later I heated her say "rite aid is open" Umm noted! I'll never be back again.

Yelp
Hard to find any establishment over one hundred years old but the feeling is alive at Fair Oaks Pharmacy. Oh yes and the soda fountain with excellent sandwiches but sundaes made with Fosselman's ice cream that are dreams in a dish.

Yelp
I will say the ice cream was good. The guy behind the counter for me the ice cream was amazing but the store itself lacks the luster that you could tell it once had the placement of the merchandise the decorations just don't do it justice. It is such in a good walking neighborhood and it is a lacking so much.

Yelp
We came in here yesterday after grabbing a bite to eat down the street. For those with the 1 star reviews about the service or the food, remember this is a pharmacy with a novelty throw back ice cream counter. The owners and the business are not putting themselves out there as a gourmet creamery or over the top Michelin restaurant. We sat at the counter and the young man who was working there around 2:00 pm on Monday was just terrific. He walked us through the menu, was super polite to the kids and my mom and then after we ordered he crafted our drinks with expertise and style. The kids got an old fashioned root beer float. Plenty of ice cream and just enough root beer. Big enough for them the share 5/5. I went for a root beer freeze. Basically a float but they blend it like a shake. 5/5. My mom has an old fashioned phosphate. All that for about $20 so prices are fait. The young man was so terrific we went ahead and ripped him $20. If you're in the area and are craving a great shake or float stop by.

Yelp
So I'm visiting from out of town and this place is just amazing!!! I'm from Colorado and there's not much like this out there! Brendan was just amazing and genuinely the best, he talked with us, took pictures for us, and didn't make us feel rushed at all he made the place 100x better!

Yelp
This is a very cute historic joint right on Mission in a very walkable South Pasadena old town area. You walk in the front door and are greeted with fun kitsch and a HUGE menu of favorite diner classics. In addition to regular food, friends and I have gone in to share "The Kitchen Sink," a gigantic Sunday of eight flavors, eight toppings, banana and brownie chunks. Fun, fun! Sometimes service is a little slow but have never experienced poor customer interactions. This is also a full functioning pharmacy which I use. The pharmacist is incredibly nice (and really cute). The pharmacy space itself feels a little cramped but that's not the emphasis of the business per se.
