Historic Long Beach Hotel Reopens With Two New Restaurants, Jazz Lounge, and Rooftop Bar - Eater LA

"The original Fairmont Breakers debuted in 1926 and became an instant Old Hollywood gathering spot. Sky Room chef Maxwell Pfeiffer put together a fine dining menu with modern tweaks, including California wagyu beef Wellington and dry-aged duck à l’orange with wines to match. Chef Giuseppe A. Musso combines California flavors with Italian at the more casual Nettuno, while Long Beach’s only rooftop bar that faces Catalina Island, Halo’s, includes classic and modern cocktails. Alter Ego pays tribute to Breakers’ roots as a spot for A-listers in the Roaring Twenties." - Mona Holmes

I stayed for one night but had the most incredible experience during that short amount of time! It started with a late arrival that didn't phase the staff followed by promptly-delivered room service that included very tasty fries (think elevated McDonald's) and the best room service chicken tenders in the game! I could've even 20! Next, I enjoyed some cocktails at the stunning, floral-themed bar before retiring for the night in a very comfy bed! The next morning I enjoyed a phenomenal shower experience in the nicest shower I've ever enjoyed the pleasure of showering in then dined on delicious breakfast in the restaurant to the right of the front desk! The staff was very friendly upon checkout as was the bellman with my bags! I will certainly recommend your hotel to friends and family traveling in the area and thank you for your commitment to excellence!

All of the staff, from valet to door to check in and restaurant staff, were wonderful - friendly, efficient, knowledgeable. The hotel is beautiful, the building has been very creatively adapted to an upscale hotel, preserving its heritage while updating all rooms and amenities. The room was comfortable, the public spaces were enjoyable and the breakfast was delicious. Our one complaint was the drinks — no normal varieties of tea (a problem for Brits!), and the cocktail in the beautiful bar was undrinkable.

My Husband and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Fairmont Breakers Hotel, at Long Beach, CA, and I cannot recommend it enough! From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely friendly, professional, and eager to assist with anything we needed. Their warm hospitality set the tone for an unforgettable stay and made us feel as if we were a part of their amazing community. The room itself was a masterpiece of comfort and elegance. It was impeccably clean, with every detail carefully considered to create a relaxing and luxurious environment. The interior design throughout the hotel was stunning, with stylish furniture and thoughtful decor that seamlessly combined modern sophistication with a cozy charm. It was clear that a lot of thought had gone into making the space both functional and visually appealing. The heated rooftop swimming pool where I spend my morning swimming and enjoying the sunshine was the cherry on top of it all. And of course, I have to mention the rooftop bar, where we relaxed, enjoyed delicious cocktails and pondered the views of the harbor where the sun was setting peacefully. I truly didn't want to leave and cannot wait to return for another exceptional experience!

Google
this hotel is the only place to stay if you want first class accommodations. I enjoyed the restaurant sky and also went to the rooftop absolutely beautiful and stunning. The food was on point loved it will be returning soon. I live in Dallas so we have some of the most wonderful Accommodations and the absolute best restaurants. I must see I must eat a must go.

We were displaced because of the wildfires and the hotel we were originally going to had the wrong dates booked. So we called in the middle of the night and Fairmont took us in. EVERYONE was truly kind and accommodating and warm and friendly. Kenneth, Celeste (not sure of spelling), every person at the front desk, every bellhop, cleaners... were all top notch. And I don't think it's simply out of kindness for the current situation. You can tell everyone working at the hotel takes pride in their work. I hope they are well taken care of financially because they are worth every penny. They even set up a makeshift room for kids with board games and snacks. The pool was lovely and the bar downstairs is very nice. We will definitely be back and be letting others know this is the place to stay. Thank you!

Very clean nice hotel. The Halo lounge is particularly lovely. The staff is very helpful and kind. You can tell the hotel is going through some early growing pains but they make up for it with their service. The only reason I am not giving it a perfect score is because we had multiple problems with the Nespresso Original Coffee machine in the room. We own one just like it at our home so we understood how to use it. We let the front desk know and they said they would send someone to fix it. But upon our return the machine would still not function as intended.

First sign that our stay would be great was working with Tranae, Royal Service and Reservations agent. She is amazing. We were thrilled to be staying at Fairmont Breakers Long Beach from the moment that we arrived. Our bellman was efficient and seemed happy to greet us. Every staff member is phenomenal. It was fun and enlightening chatting with the Acting General Manager. Plus, she's a definite team player and works to ensure that everyone (staff and customers) are happy. I love the location. Close to the Convention Center and across the street from the Promenade. The suite was one of the best suites that we've stayed in. I love the various up technology grades.

As a Los Angeles resident and loyal member of Accor, I was thrilled to learn the Breakers would reopen under the Fairmont brand. I had my assistant reach out far in advance to learn when opening day would be and to my delight the staff were extremely helpful, giving me regular updates on the process and finally inviting me to be the first guest on the books. They arranged transportation for me, which was an very kind gesture, and reserved my dining plans for the evening of my one night stay. As a Diamond Member with Accor I hold all Accor properties to a high standard, ensuring they are well versed in the world class hospitality the Accor brand embodies, the Fairmont Breakers exceeded all my expectations, as their first registered guest I was welcomed by the General Manager, Mark, and the entire hotel staff with a round of applause as I entered the lobby, truly unexpected! I was given a grand tour of the hotel by the very courteous Director of Rooms, Alex, and the Corporate Sales Manager, Daniel. Upon arriving at my suite, I was amazed to find a bottle of Dom Perignon, they already know me so well! We had drinks at Halo which had exquisite views, dinner at Sky Room which was truly to die for, and made a night to remember by the wonderful waiter, Agustin! We are finishing the night off at Alter Ego, a lovely jazz lounge. This is truly an exceptional Fairmont property that I would highly suggest discerning guests visit!

Yelp
The restoration of the Fairmont Breakers Hotel is exquisite! It is so beautiful... retaining the original 1926 look and feel. I had cocktails in the Halo rooftop lounge and also in the jazz club, Alter Ego, off the main lobby. We found the 360 degree views at Halo to be fantastic, but the bar was a bit noisy for conversation, so we went down to Alter Ego. This space is quieter and more intimate. It has a great art deco vibe. I came back again a few days later, to enjoy an espresso beverage at the lobby morning coffee bar. The coffee is excellent and the environment provides a great atmosphere to start off the day. I did get an opportunity to look around a bit. The restoration includes a lot of reuse of original wood paneling and retains many elements from the 1926 grandeur. My next visit will be to enjoy the fine dining options!

Yelp
The glass views over looking the city at the Halo bar has hard water build up and is poorly maintained. If this place wants to pride itself in being luxury, management needs to get with the developer and redesign the windows surrounding the Halo Bar so a day porter can clean them daily from the outside. It was a disgrace when you look out over the beautiful vistas to be met with gummy blotches allllllll over the window. I'm in IT for luxury high rise property management and seeing the windows that filthy was appalling for being considered "luxury". The valet was more responsive and hospitality oriented than the service members at the Halo Bar.

Yelp
5 stars for the view on the rooftop bar, Halo! Five stars for the indoor bars around the windows at the Skyroom. For my birthday after-party, my friends and I headed to The Breakers. We started at the Sky Room, but the hostess/bar manager curtly informed us that it was strictly for reservations and sit-down dining only. She directed us upstairs to Halo, the rooftop "standing" bar. Halo had a cool vibe with stunning views, but the layout was odd--tons of space, yet barely any seating. Everyone was crammed into walkways and ramps because there were only a few scattered couches and chairs. It felt like they missed an opportunity to make it more inviting with additional seating. Then came the real surprise: both rooftop bars closed at 10 PM--on a Saturday night! Seriously? The jazz club downstairs, Alter Ego, stayed open until 11 PM, but it was packed to the brim with everyone who had been kicked out of the rooftop bars. Once that closed, they pretty much herded us out of the hotel, leaving nowhere to hang out except for a few random chairs. Beautiful spot, but the setup and timing? Total buzzkill. When asked, some of the bartenders said management was experimenting with the closing times, rooftop layout etc. In 22 of our opinions, as that is how large my group was, we don't agree with the bars closing at 10 and for limited seating on the rooftop. Totally & highly recommend Halo for at least a drink. if you can have an appetizer/dinner at the sky room, totally recommend that as well. Have not eaten there but the ambience is beautiful. But other than that, drinks nothing special just overpriced. It's all about the views!

Yelp
The best place to stay and hangout in DTLB. The newly renovated and reopened historic Breakers Hotel is a gem. The building has been meticulously restored. The ambiance is superb. The service is outstanding. The rooms are smaller but very comfortable. Valet parking, multiple bars and restaurants including the Skyroom and the rooftop bar. Even though it's pricey, it's totally worth it.

Yelp
Amazing! What a classy classy place. They have turned this historical landmark into a dream. We started at the hotel lobby bar for some cocktails before dinner at the Sky Bar and wow service is incredible. The passion fruit spritz is so refreshingly delicious. My friend got the Margarita and equally as delicious. Now dinner at Sky Room was the feature and our steak was cooked to perfection. You must order the Bananas Foster for dessert: it's decadent and a show. The ice cream is made in house. And again, service is superb! Went up to check out the Halo bar and the views... oh wow. Then down to Alter Ego Jazz bar for after dinner libations. Now this was end of the night class. The Fairmont is all About service, class, and amazing food and drinks! I can't wait to come back. They really know how to make you feel special.

Yelp
Came with friends for wine and dessert and it did not disappoint. Yarely was awesome and recommended the Baked Alaska and Bananas Fosters which were divine. The Bananas Foster was flambee tableside and the Baked Alaska was the highlight of the night. Beautiful and delicious! Yarely was really attentive and made our experience memorable. Thanks, Yarely!

Yelp
Dropped by the Fairmont Breakers Hotel to explore a venue for an upcoming cocktail event. Concierge was extremely gracious in showing around. The recently refurbished lobby is gorgeous. We looked at a number of Pvt Dining Rooms and left our info for their local banquet manager to reach back out to us. So decided to try lunch at Nettuno, their Italian Bistro within the lobby area. Seated immediately, our professional waiter took wonderful care of us. I asked what he recommended for lunch and took him up on the Tagliatelle Bolognese. Delicious home made noodle pasta with a delicate combination of beef, pork & veal in a scrumptious bolognese sauce. Good sized portion, left me completely satiated for lunch. My wife had the scrumptious Caesar Salad with added grilled chicken, that had just the right light amount of garlic that paired nicely with the poultry. A casual elegance made us feel very comfortable while enjoying our lovely meal. This is an upper scale environment, priced accordingly. But only a $10 valet allowed us great/timely arrival & departure. Try it out, you will enjoy. --Tim

Yelp
We met for drinks here. The views were amazing from the bar atop of the hotel. Great decor in the bar. The outdoor patio is a place I plan on visiting during the spring and summer months. Then we made our way down to the jazz bar on the first floor. Super nice and very attentive. Great decor and ambiance and lots of comfortable seating. Even had a curtained off vip section for more of a private intimate experience. The valets were great as well as was the front desk staff who were quick to ask if I had any questions or needed assistance in exploring the hotel.

Yelp
We went here the day after it opened I believe and it was really nice. We were greeted in the front and shown to the elevators to the sky bar. Bar area was also beautiful with a complete view of Long Beach. I got the espresso martini and it was fabulous, but the drinks were very small. Average priced in today's world. Went downstairs to the bar and got a glass of delicious wine, which had a pretty nice pour. The daiquiri was also delicious. Cute little spot to come on an evening to enjoy a drink and check out the views. There were some kinks that still needed to be worked out so we will visit this place again when they are more settled and on their way.

Yelp
Love this place already. It's only been open two weeks and it's obvious why it's already a huge success. The staff are amazing. The cocktails are delicious. The ambiance, is the perfect compliment of up scale and comfortable- the music playing, the lighting- who could ask for anything more.

Jacquelyn M.

Yelp
I went to the Fairmont to see how it was doing shortly after it's opening however, there still was no live jazz in the jazz "club" Went to check out Halo, which was not open on a Sunday evening, which was disappointing, but it looked fabulous. We checked out the rooftop bar, which was small but lively several outdoor areas little too cold to enjoy at this time of year, but it looks like has possibilities for the summer. Hopefully, they'll have the bugs worked out And a full staff and a full compliment of restaurants to offer soon.

Yelp
Couldn't get reservations for Sky Room dinner so headed to Queens view. After dinner wanted to check out the rooftop bar got there at 10pm was told they were closed. A bit disappointing would think on a weekend it would be open til at least midnight. Ended up at the lounge bar on the first floor service was good. Would give another chance, and recommend checking out.

Mealii S.

Yelp
The rooftop bar is beautiful in its new renovation. The outdoor area with glass captures the port of Long Beach and its glittering lights! There is a small bar in the center of the room with chairs along the viewing tables outside of the enormous pillars. However the bartenders are below average. They have a small menu of drinks and they aren't creative to know anything outside the menu. Their margarita was too sweet which my husband couldn't drink. Go for an easy G&T or quick mixer and enjoy the view.

Yelp
Utter DISAPPOINTMENT...!!! Who says first impressions are always right. I was walking by the week prior to Tday holiday. They had been open maybe 2-3 days. This lovely young woman at the front desk kindly greeted me and gave me a mini tour. I was back last night, Thursday Dec 5th, with a friend. We were wanting to check out the two bars and the Jazz club. We had drinks in the lobby area, as the lobby bar is small and full. I was happy to see Nikki a local server pass by to her shift at the Club. I thought it was great they hired locals at the new hotel. We waited till 6pm the opening of the Jazz Club. Walking down the hallway, we were literally, RUDELY, and dismissively stop by Rafael. Saying "No... no... we're not ready yet!" I was shocked by his extreme rudeness. Since we still had our drinks in the lobby area we went back. I immediately asked for a manager. A young man came over and quickly apologized. But I felt it wasn't his faults and asked to speak directly to the rude guy, Rafael. When finally approached by Rafael, no introduction was made by him. He knew I had issues with him and his behavior. He didn't not introduce myself or give me his name. The rest did not go well. I think he may have forgotten the guest interaction needed when addressing a hotel guest. I can only assume he's used to giving orders and not being questioned back. So when I pushed back and reiterated my impression and his rude behavior, he was not having it. A fake and insincere apology is worthless. Follow Long Beach locals... STAY AWAY until they work out the opening kinks and senior management can fix middle management. It's a beautiful space but don't risk having a bad experience, especially during these festive times. Let the tourist who bought into the Fairmont brand suffer through it.

Yelp
The iconic Fairmont Breakers in Long Beach is open and it's really lovely inside! You can go to a restaurant, have a drink in the lobby or go to the spa for a special day. Fun stuff for locals and also a luxury hotel for out of towners with spectacular views. Just check it out! https://robbreport.com/travel/hotels/inside-the-fairmont-breakers-long-beach-hotel-1235991380/

Yelp
Beautiful hotel near the Long Beach Convention Center. Friendly staff, rooms are fantastic, and lots of restaurants and shopping in walking distance.

Yelp
Amazing!!! You will be delighted to see how the design team kept to period styles along with modernizing each room. Spectacular hotel, truly one of a kind. The Old Fashions were the best in Long Beach. Can't wait to try the Sky Room. Go visit and stay, you will not be disappointed!!!

Yelp
Review is for web presence only. No menu to be found on website or on the internet. Critical mistake. Who goes through the trouble of dressing, driving, parking etc without having at least an idea of the fare and pricing beforehand.
