The Korean Mama (and Son’s) Guide to Portland, Oregon Restaurants | Eater Portland

"This small Fairview-area deli is a sentimental favorite for Ed — it reminds him of his parents' former Beaverton burger restaurant — and they loved the turkey club, which adds a fried egg in a very Korean twist; Ed was surprised by the fried egg and Jane called it an upgrade." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

The woman working is so kind & her food is amazing. She made everything fresh right in front of us. Not some fast food place, she has authentic flavors & takes her time with every single dish. The portions are generous as well. Will be coming back to try the rest of the menu!! Thankyou so much !!

This place was great. We had the Korean food offered here and enjoyed every bite. The deli was clean, quiet and timely. The lady behind the counter was kind and made sure we had what we needed. They have soda, water, beer and wine. Beyond Korean food they also serve house made sandwiches. Will definitely be coming back again.

Man, I was really looking forward to trying this place out. Unfortunately, it was a big let down. The good: The lady working is sweet and obviously makes everything fresh. The food has good flavor. The bad: It took almost an hour to get our food. We only ordered two things and there was no one else in the restaurant. Both dishes were 99% noodles and barely had any veggies or meat in them.

My family and I stopped by here on a whim and ordered some sandwiches. We were not disappointed! The sandwiches were huge and delicious. The woman working was so kind and very sweet to our toddler! We would definitely recommend. We will be going back to try some Korean food next time!

I read all of the glowing reviews here, but my husband and I were deeply disappointed in this food. My husband got the club sandwich. He enjoyed all the meat (and especially the fried egg) but the sourdough bread was stale. We shared the chicken Mandu, and they were really undercooked and doughy. The japchae was good, hence two stars instead of one. It also took a full 45 minutes for the use three dishes to be made when there was no one else in the restaurant or any other to-go orders. The owner seems very nice but is clearly over her head.

Google
So much love for this place. Little unsuspecting deli off of I-84. We got some Korean food and sandwiches, both were very delicious and filling for the price. The older Korean auntie that works there is a one person team. Be prepared to wait a little as she’s making everything fresh, very much worth it! She’s very kind and hospitable as well.

Google
Great Customer Service from the Sweet Lady serving up a delicious variety of flavors. My family enjoyed the Japchae (Korean stirfry noodles and veggies) and Mandu (potstickers). I ate all the sushi, half the Japchae and Mandu. Loved that Kim Chee also accompanied the meal. The significant portion of tasty pastrami came with a drink, potato salad, and chips. The prices are very reasonable and generous servings. The Japchae and Mandu reminded me of the home cooked meals made by my ex-Mother-in-Law. The Lady was so kind and helped me to fill my green tea cup and carried my order out to my car. Definitely will be my “New Go-To Treat-Stop”. Nothing commercial about the flavors. Thoroughly pleased!

I’ve been wanting to try ever since it opened, so happy we stopped in today. Got the kimbap with some macaroni salad and the kimchi, it was everything I was hoping it would be. Kimchi is so fresh and flavorful eating with the kimbap is perfect crunchy fresh veggies. Macaroni salad good and simple. Cute atmosphere inside and the prices for the quality is amazing. I’ve been snacking on it for the last couple hours. Can’t wait to come back and try a sandwich The woman running it is very sweet and can tell she cooks with love ❤️

Yelp
Club sandwich 10/10, japchae 10/10, beef bulgogi 9/10, miso soup 3/10 had a weird taste, kimbap 7/10 Korean food where you can taste the mother's touch. Owners were so sweet. They took our order right away. We ordered a lot but got our food within 30-40 mins. Place has a cozy cute mom & pop shop feel. They have some lottery machines in the back as well. Overall, yummy place. Definitely will be coming back for that delicious club sandwich.

Yelp
Friends! DELI Sandwiches and Korean food next to The Fork in Fairview, OR... this is a great deli with home cooking dishes like chicken or beef curry but --also -- yummy Club sandwiches. Look what we had today :-) Plenty of comfortable seating, really clean restaurant /deli. The owners are so nice! "Fairview Deli and Korean food"

Yelp
So happy that my local friend suggested this place for lunch. Restaurant has the feel of a diner, but the food was delicious authentic Korean flavors. We each got a bi bim bap (my friend asked for tofu which is available, but not on the menu) and were served delicious bi bim bap and several ban chan. It's clear that this spot has plenty of regulars because while the proprietor was friendly with everyone, there were enthusiastic greetings to some who they seemed to know well. Fairview isn't close enough to home for me, but if it was, I would hope and plan to become one of those regulars. My friend might wonder at my increasing desire to keep having lunch with her.

Yelp
Service here is outstanding! I almost felt like it was my own mom making me food. The owner makes you feel at home and fully taken care of, offering additional treats to your meal and packing up food plus extras for free. The food here is excellent, highlight for us has been the club sandwich but the curry was also great. We're excited to come back and try some more dishes! Prices are on the slightly higher side but the portions will feed you for a few meals so it's well worth it!

Yelp
Food was amazing! Very fresh home style authentic Korean food. Prices were great as well. It feels like your at an aunties house eating lol

Yelp
Food is really good, portions are large, and staff (i think owner) was super welcoming. Went in and she was debating closing for the weekend so didn't have some of the Korean food menu ready but was able to get a club (which i was planning on anyhow) and kimbap. Was very pleasantly surprised with the portions for the cost while the quality didn't suffer (mac salad was okay imo but I'm not a mac salad person either). Probably a good thing some items weren't ready or else we would have had too many leftovers so will just need to come back.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this little deli but it just didn't hit right for me. It's a small place that shares the parking lot of a convenience store and it's right behind a food truck pod. The windows are really tinted so it never looks like it's open. The woman who helped me was very kind and was pretty quick to get me situated. I ordered the bulgogi beef with rice. I'm not sure when the food is prepared or stored because there doesn't appear to be a kitchen on-site. I couldn't hear any cooking sounds or smells so I assume the hot food is prepared elsewhere and them heated up. The bulgogi was meh. It didn't pack much flavor and it wasn't very saucy. She did give me a few cookies and grapes at the end of my meal. The service was 5 stars, the food a 3 at best. I would like to see how their cold sandwiches compare to the other food they offer.

Yelp
Good was super delicious and service was extremely warm and welcoming. Will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
My group wasn't sure what to think of this place initially. It resembles a convenience store from the outside and inside looks like you're in grandmas kitchen. The owner is a one woman show and handles it with ease. She has various bread options (sourdough, wheat, white, pita, etc) and will customize to whatever fits your taste buds. She gave us samples of her macaroni salad and potato salad with our sandwiches which were some of the best we had ever had. After we were all done she served us cinnamon cookies... she was incredibly sweet! Her sandwiches were very good but even more so her customer service was top tier so I will definitely be back.

Yelp
I have never been to Korea nor I have been inside a Korean home, but as soon as I walked in it felt like I am at a Korean friends house where his mom is preparing you the food for us. The food, the service, the hospitality, and the free refills of condiments confirmed my feelings. The portions were huge and tasty. This has become one of my favorite go to places. The space is not very large, but it's organized and clean. There's plenty of parking so you don't have an excuse not to try them.

Yelp
Loved the Japche, it also came with kimchi (both cabbage and radish) and a miso soup. The owner was so sweet she just threw the chips in for no reason love this place!

Yelp
Cozy mom-and-pop deli/restaurant combo. No frills, I usually order takeout but do spend some time sitting and waiting for the food inside. AUTHENTIC KOREAN! In Fairview! Get the Kimbap and the Japchae. You won't regret dropping by!

J S.

Yelp
Their kimbap is very authentic Korean. The owner told me that she operated a deli in another town for over 20 years. We had a breakfast sandwich, a turkey club and a kimbap. I'd would go back.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! We love good Korean food and this place delivered! Their kimchi is made by the proprietor and we even bought some to take home. Amazing.

Yelp
Great friendly service, clean facilities, comfy chairs to wait for To go, delicious food and very large servings!

James E.

Yelp
First time eating here yesterday, the people are amazing and make you feel like you're at home! More important, the food is nothing short of amazing! ...and their Miso soup is the best I've ever had in years and years. A MUST TRY IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR GREAT KOREAN FOOD! We will most assuredly be coming back again and again and again!

Lem L.

Yelp
Atmosphere is fine. Clean little restaurant. Customer service is seriously lacking. The ajumma was rude when taking our order. The food took a long time, probably because she would rather prepare a sandwich for the customers that came in 15 minutes AFTER us. We waited almost 30 minutes for our food and this is unacceptable considering there was only that one other customer. Reading the other reviews we thought we'd give this place a chance. Instead we should've just kept going. Portions are decent and she did give banchan so there's that.

Lei M.

Yelp
Picked up bibimbap. It was delicious! It was over a year ago, so hopefully things haven't changed

Tami S.

Yelp
The food was yummy! We had the club sandwich which was really good and really big. We also had the kim bap which I don't think I have had before, it was interesting and my son liked it a lot. We also had the bibimbap and it was great with veggies and meat. The beef bulgogi was yummy. The miso soup was perfect, we were cold from a hike. The best part, I think, was the kimchi! Very flavorful! The woman running the place was great. She was nice and offered us more miso soup, more kimchi and offered to give us more food as we were leaving. She wanted to make sure we were full and we were! At the end of the meal, she brought us oranges and cookies. The restaurant was clean. We will visit again the next time we go to Multnomah Falls!

Yelp
I've enjoyed nearly everything on the menu, but most folks order the bulgogi (marinated beef over rice with kimchi) or the japche (glass noodles and veggies). the bulgogi is savory and a little sweet, and the meat was thin-sliced and tender. the japche is very tasty and mildly spiced...the glass noodles are not as heavy as regular wheat flour noodles. even the curry is pretty mild but you can dose them with various hot sauces to add some fire. the kim bap (see photos) is a really neat entree: basically the Korean version of sushi with beef/veggie and rice - it comes chilled and I dipped it in the miso soup for a quick warmup on a cold day. in the summer I would just add maybe just a little splash of soy sauce. all the food is freshly prepared - even the veggies are chopped to order. but keep in mind it's a small operation so be sure to allow some extra time for your food to be made for you. All these delicate entrees are best eaten right away, so if you order 'take out' and drive to mount hood, you may be disappointed. stop by when you have some time to enjoy this fine Korean food served hot and fresh right at your table. The exact time they close can vary a bit so check their hours and try to arrive well before closing time. the food is well worth the trip and I find myself going there weekly. give them a try!

Yelp
Legit Korean food. Great to stopby after hiking in the Gorge. There are other food options (Food Carts) available nearby.

Yelp
Wow! What an absolute hidden gem. Felt like I was invited into a Korean mom's home and we were spoiled right from the start. We ordered the Club Sandwich, Bibimbap, and Kimbap. All three were outstanding. Best club sandwich I have ever had. The owner was a total sweetheart and brought out each dish one by one as she makes everything to order. With each new dish she would bring us fresh napkins and utensils and side dishes. The club sandwich comes with potato salad, chips, and a drink. Bibimbap comes with miso soup and two house made kimchi's. The Kimbap was excellent and definitely a new favorite of mine. This is super close to home and I can't wait to come back again! Wish I would have come here sooner. 10/10!!!

Yelp
Tried this place on whim. Pulled up and almost turned around and left. It just did not look very Korean at all. Looked at the rating saw five stars and decided to go in. The owner was extremely friendly. She made us Korean food that tasted out of this world. Everything was full of flavor and there was plenty of it. The only disappointing thing was Paper plates and plastic silverware. Will come here anytime I'm in the area.

Yelp
Took my Grandsons here for lunch, and even they gave 2 thumbs up, and they're both pre teens.

Yelp
Amazing service, perfect food! I had the club sandwich (it was huge) and kimbap (also huge) The sandwich was simple but delicious and the kimbap was amazing. Everything here is made with love and you can tell. The sweet woman working gave us extra chips and extra sides of kimchi at no charge, she checked in on us and made sure we left full and happy. Looking forward to going back

Rita C.

Yelp
I called in for my food and got it in about ten minutes. Bibimbap is delicious and so was the kimichi!

Kris K.

Yelp
Good food and great service. Owner is always very friendly. Dine in (very casual counter service) and take out.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Authentic Korean food. Everything is fresh and handmade. Tastes just like home. The lady that makes all the food is so sweet.

Yelp
The service here is so friendly- like having your mom make your food with love. The Korean food is delicious. Kimchi is great (homemade) and I really liked the kimbap here. Also, the sandwiches are HUGE and come with a side. It's that perfect hidden gem deli sandwich flavor and quality. The next thing I'm going to try is a salad. Everyone in my family has raved about what they've ordered.

Caitlin T.

Yelp
Went there and the food was amazing, we ordered 6 things and nothing disappointed . The owner was super sweet and came to pack up all of our food at the end. Place was quiet and cute as well. Recommend to anyone to come here

Caylene C.

Yelp
Great food and service, the owners were so kind and generous. I'm planning to make this my new go to spot every week! Definitely a great place worth checking out.
