"Ever since it opened a few years ago, this restaurant has helped to raise the profile of Legrad, a village in northern Croatia. Situated next to the church, the restaurant overlooks the village square and boasts a spacious terrace that is very popular on summer evenings. The interior decor has the same simple, elegant and modern feel as the cuisine, which features dishes from Croatia and Central Europe. Local ingredients plus delicious clean flavours, a hint of creativity and reasonable prices all add to the appeal. The smoked trout with horseradish mousse, barley popcorn and pumpkin oil is excellent. The 11 guestrooms are particularly popular with cyclists, as Legrad is the start and finish of one of Croatia’s popular cycling routes." - Michelin Inspector

Istria is Croatia's Best-Kept Culinary Secret

"Wine making in Croatia is both ancient and new. The Greeks introduced grapes in the sixth century B.C., and Malvazija thrived in Istria's white-limestone-rich soil, up in the mountains." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Me and a group of friends have been there yesterday for a birthday present of a friend. They are relatively new. About 15 years old and won prices already. There where 7 wines. One rose, three white, two red and a dessert wine. In combination Luca, the host, brought us a plate of ham, cheese and salami plus bread. It was a really nice afternoon and the host was really nice.

We had a great time visiting Fakin (fah-keen) winery! It was just the two of us being entertained by the server/sommelier, who was very entertaining! And the wine! Their Malvazija is so good, particularly the La Prima aged in acacia. Perhaps the best wine we have ever tasted.

Yesterday we were tasting 7 wines with local food and I must say that we were impressed by the host Luka, who exlplained eveything that we asked for. The wines were very good and each of us found a wine that suits for it. The food was local and it combines perfectly with drinks. Special thanks to host (Luka) for all the sommelier expalantions and wonderfull experiance 🙂💪👍

We had a really great time at Fakin winery! Nice garden and view, tasty wines (the rosé is exceptional), beautiful place and staff. The host Mikaela was really great - she gave us extra wines to taste and was very kind to our baby. We weren’t sure, if it is okay to come to a winery with a 1-year old infant, but it was fun and positive, and they even have diapers in the bathroom. We will definitely come back!

Phenomenal off-road and wine tasting experience! We booked a place in Rijeka specifically to be able to visit this winery and it was 100% worth. Will definitely come back the next time we're in Croatia! P.S. Also special thanks to Luka - amazing guide!

Was going to just stop in for a quick tasting and ended up loving it so much we stayed an extra day. The best of Central Istrian experiences with Luka: warm hospitality, knowledgeable on the local wines and wineries, and an easy going attitude. Luka made our day/ trip. Easily my favorite spot with views of Motovun. Favorite wine was il primo- french barrel aged red. Can’t wait to go back- Hvala!

We just went for a tasting menu. €22/per person, we were with 4 people. What did we get? 4 times a taster glas (on the menu €2,5 per glas separate). This minus 1 glas, because someone is allergic to red wine and that person didn’t get a replacement glass (this was communicated before we ordered). So in volume 4 normal glasses of wine and 6 pieces of cheese and meat. This for €88. The wines itself were okay, but I would suggest driving a little bit more for better quality and experience.

We had a great time tasting several wines while talking to Tamara and learning about Croatia in general and Istria in particular, wines and otherwise. Totally worth the trip from Piran, where we were staying.
