Where to Eat Middle Eastern Food in and Around Boston

"Falafel King has been doing its thing in Downtown Boston for almost 20 years. Trust the name and get the falafel (and grab some grape leaves, too.)" - Terrence Doyle

Google
5 stars Absolutely incredible! Falafel King lives up to its name — the falafel is perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside. The shawarma is juicy, well-seasoned, and packed with authentic Middle Eastern flavor. Portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable, especially for downtown Boston. Great value for such high-quality food. Quick service, too. This place is a gem!

Google
Best beef and chicken shawarma I have had in a long time!! Everything was top notch and very tasty, fresh and delicious 😋 The gentleman was so nice that also offered us some samples of felafel which were also delicious!! If you are in town you definitely must try this place! Be aware portions are HUGE so might want to share if you don’t eat a lot.

Google
Excellent Vegetarian Falafel at this location, authentic taste, especially thanks to the man John who made my order he was so humble and helpful, with amazing customer service. I really appreciate my friend for making my lunch.

Google
Always the best. Fresh, delicious food and super charming, efficient staff. They’ll make you the perfect plate, just the way you like it, in the blink of an eye! Long live Falafel King!

Google
Used to love this place but haven't been since the pandemic. It's really gone down hill. Brought some out of town visitors and noone enjoyed the order. The beef and lamb combo was dry and leathery as was the pita bread. The falafel and hummus were decent. Was a bit embarrassed with my guests after raving about it to them. What a disappointment. Definitely won't go back.

Google
Great taste and inexpensive. I ordered a Falafel Sandwich, it was huge and I was full even before I could finish it. Falafels were cooked well and everything tasted nice. They have a lot of options to choose from. The staff accommodates your requests without any frowns. Good place for lunch (dine in and take out).

Google
I'm absolutely smitten with this place! The falafels were bursting with flavor and had the perfect texture. Though the wrap was a bit too moist for me, it didn't ruin the experience. Plus, you get generous portions at reasonable prices. Can't wait to go back!

Google
Falafel King in Boston exceeds expectations with its unparalleled falafel that stands out as the best I’ve ever tasted. The service is not only prompt but also delivered with a touch of excellence, enhancing the overall dining experience. The combination of flavors in the falafel, paired with the efficiency of service, makes Falafel King a must-visit for any falafel enthusiast in the Boston area.

Yelp
Food is excellent for the price and the location is very convenient. Falafel wrap spicy is my usual order but i also enjoy the chicken kabob plate with rice.

Yelp
I dislike leaving bad reviews but I found my chicken shawarma wrap to be flavorless. The chicken was dry and the overall taste left me wishing we ate elsewhere. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.

Yelp
Great Falafel and Baba Ghanoush rollups. Their falafel is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and their Baba Ghanoush is delicious

Yelp
I've been eating at falafel king for over ten years. Consistently hot delicious food and friendly staff. Very busy street and no outdoor dining. The food is a bit heavy on the salt and vinegar but man does it taste delicious.

Yelp
Best Arab food in town! This was my first time in Boston and after being disappointed at a few other local halal restaurants, I stumbled upon Falafel King where the cashier treated me so kindly and recommended the chicken kabob platter. I finished the entire box in one sitting and was left craving more. Everything was seasoned to perfection and the portion size was huge. May God bless you and your team!

Yelp
Unbelievable food for unbelievable prices in downtown Boston... You can't beat this! This is my go to place when I'm in downtown Boston for a quick bite which is better than five guys or any fast food restaurant in my opinion! You need to make your way to this place off of Summer Street and Kingston Street

Yelp
Wow that was good. I hadn't gone to FK for years but after a vacation of too much meat, a falafel wrap sounded good. And it was, crispy falafel and lots of salad to make it feel more healthy. I get garlic sauce instead of tahini and it's yummy. It feels like it could have been wrapped a little better but not a big deal, food is ready in a minute and hits the spot.

Yelp
One of my favorite lunches in Boston. Not fancy or expensive, just affordable, healthy and large portions. My go to is the chicken kabob plate, with falafels, rice, cucumber/tomato and a really good pita bread. It's 4-5 nice chunks of grilled white meat, nice yellow rice, and strangely delicious veggies. I always ask for extra hot sauce, it's not hot and just adds flavor. It's almost too much food honestly. I also get the side of falafels which is only 5$. You get 4-5 falafels, a nice scoop of humus, and pita bread. It's more than enough food and such a good deal. They guys working there are always pretty nice and efficient.

Yelp
One of my favorite takeout spots in downtown Boston. Falafel is in the name and falafel really is the game! The servers will hand you a crispy, steaming hot, fried falafel dipped in hummus as you go through the order line- way to keep their customers happy! The kofte kebab is delicious here- I love the roll-up, but sometimes get the plate (which comes with rice, hummus, salad, another falafel) which makes for easier leftovers. But you can't go wrong with the chicken and lamb shish kebab- big hearty servings and very satisfying.

Yelp
No particular complaints, the falafel had great crispy texture. Decent lunch option for downtown crossing

Yelp
I didnt know Mediterranean food can be this good. Place has limited seating. No parking space available. No high chair. Most people do takeout here. Crew were nice but clearly they are in a hurry to catch up with the orders. Accepts credit/debit
google avatar

Sophia-Joy P.

Yelp
The price here for the food quality and quantity was great, especially for Boston. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned and the owner was friendly. There is limited seating but since most people takeout anyway it's not a problem. The restaurant is very quiet. The only downside is that the meat was a little tough and not well flavored. However, even thing else on the plate more than made up for it.

Tyrell G.

Yelp
My favorite place to eat lunch daily! The staff is always friendly and nice. They know my order by heart and always taste amazing! Chicken King Special hotsauce and tahini. No other falafel place compares.

Yelp
I've said it many times, if you go to a restaurant that has the name of a food in their name, you should order that food. Since I was already looking for a falafel, going to Falafel King was a no brainer. When I arrived, I only had falafel on my mind. It's located just across the street from other competing (meat) restaurants. Now, FK has meat options available, but again you should refer to my original statement. I ordered the falafel roll (essentially a falafel pita wrap). It was a good 10" long and had a diameter of about 4 in (10cm). It has a hummus base, pickled veggies, tomato and cucumber salad addition, and of course some great sauces. I highly recommend getting it spicy. It was not spicy in any real sense. It was essentially Northeast spicy which means plain. This was an excellent falafel. It filled me up for the rest of the day. Chiming in at $9, this is a bargain. If you're not a big eater, then two people can share the single wrap. If you're looking for a non-meat option, this is your top choice. Give FK a try. You'll be happy that you did.

Mari R.

Yelp
The food is good. I like the rice, the tomatoes and cucumbers salad, the chicken kabobs, and the falafel of course. Very nice for lunch or take out. The service is depending on the mood of the employees. It's informal dining, fast food style.

Yelp
This branch is great! stay away from the Summer street store, Especially if you are black.

Yelp
I first visited falafel King back in 2001 when I first moved to Boston. 20 years Has passed, and I'm happy to say nothing has changed. The food is still excellent. I got the chicken wrap today and it's a lot of food for not a lot of money. It's hard to find lunch in Boston for less than $15 but you can get that at falafel King. I highly recommend.
google avatar

Jenna C.

Yelp
Best falafel in town. Super quick service, no big frills, just great food. If you're lucky, you'll get what I call "one for the road" where they give you a falafel with a little hummus to snack on while you walk back with your lunch. Highly recommend this spot in DTX area.

Yelp
This place truly lives up to its name. Today I'm at their Washington Street location and everyone is super friendly, like good friends. In the past, I've enjoyed plates, roll ups and today salad and they get it right every time!

Yelp
Quick and easy lunch in a small restaurant. They move the queue through here quite quickly and most of them are takeaway. There is seating inside for maybe 25 or so. Simple enough for Middle Eastern food. Grilled chicken or beef shawarma, falafel and sides. I chose the "veggie sampler platter" and was handed a fresh falafel to nibble on while I went through the line. Everyone got one, which is a nice feature. Unwrapping my styrofoam box, we have a salad base in a light dressing, tabouli, hummus, baba ganoush and all of it drizzled with a light sauce. Very tasty, very filling and very high in carbs. It was naptime at around 3:00 pm. lol High satisfaction meal, it stayed with me all day and I chose a light dinner late in the evening. [Review 9940 overall, 1519 of 2018.]

Yelp
I love the falafel I love the location & the fact that they give you a falafel while waiting in line! The salad plates are awesome the syrian bread aka pita is wrapped. Not enough seating but you can go anywhere & sit @ downtown crossing or po sq. Or govt ctr or fannyek hall. Getcthe picture?

Yelp
Quick stop to pick up sandwiches for the long Amtrak journey (South Station is just a 2 minute walk away). Was pleasantly surprised with the speed of production and the cheerful staff dancing and humming to music while they worked. The falafel wrap itself was sheer heaven!! Juicy and flavorful and tasted perfect! Definitely making this a regular lunch stop!

Saed S.

Yelp
The food was great and delicious. Delivery was on time. The delivery driver was very nice. No complaints from me.

Yelp
My falafel wrap with hummus and tabouli was perfect. The service was friendly. I'll order here again if I'm in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Ok - if you're reading this, call yourself an uber to falafel king now, because your decision has been made. The best combo plate this side of the Atlantic and you'll be in and out in 3 minutes. Sauce is next level - chicken superb - and even the rice and salad earn their spot on the combo plate. The falafel itself and the humus it comes dressed in, leave no question as to why they had to open a second location.

Yelp
Decided to give this place try because it was very close to our hotel and I love me some falafels. Me and my friend shared the chicken falafel platter, it was good except the falafel didn't meet my expectations because it tasted over fried. The chicken was grilled and flavored perfectly. The hummus was delicious as well and the side salad had good dressing too. I was really impressed by the service, the guy who was making the platter gave me and my friend a falafel dipped in hummus to try while we waited him to finish. Definitely recommend the chicken platter but not with falafels. Two less stars because of the falafel. If Yelp had an option to give half stars, I would rate this place as 3.5.

Yelp
Visited on a weekday afternoon for lunch in December 2018. Pretty decent sized restaurant for a typical take out spot but I decided to take my order and sit in. It was really busy during lunch time but despite of that people at the counter were polite in preparing and serving my order. Food was served hot and tasted really good especially their hummus and falafel. Beef and Lamb Shawarma Meat plate with Rice, Hummus, Falafel and Salad
google avatar

Rebecca K.

Yelp
They sure are king of falafels! The falafels are crispy yet soft and fresh while the inside is bursting with flavor and so perfectly put together. This quick lunch or dinner spot gets you through the line quickly while offering free falafels dipped in hummus as you wait and order. The menu is simple to order from with platters created for you. I'm a big fan of hummus and this place makes their own delicious hummus with a nice thicker consistency and just the right blend of spices so you don't taste one over another (not too garlicky at all!) You can taste the freshness here. Come check out the king

Yelp
Really delicious food and great service! I am a big falafel fan and LOVED their falafel. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Decided to pop in and get some food ten minutes before closing time. There were two ladies behind the counter, and one politely informed me that I could only get my food to go as they were closing for the evening. No problem at all since I had come for takeout anyway. I ordered a kafta kabob platter and the lady who served me made sure I left thoroughly eatisfied, by throwing in an additional box of falafel (7 pieces!!!) and hummus for free. My order cost all of $10.85. I brought the food home and promptly devoured it -- no complaints whatsoever, it was still hot and fresh. Everything in the platter was delicious - the kafta kabobs were flavorful, the rice was nicely spiced, and the cucumber and tomato salad was surprisingly delicious (I may have enjoyed that the most out of everything). As for the side of falafel and hummus - the falafel were crisp on the outside and went really well with the creamy hummus. Kudos to Falafel King for affordable and tasty food, with great service! So glad this place is just a stone's throw from my place.

Yelp
Been a while since I've updated my review for Falafel King. I still think this place has the best chicken kebab for lunch time. I love getting the chicken kebab Greek salad for lunch. The live moves quickly. My only thing, and pet peeve, is when you order a standard menu item, and they ask you to build-your-own, and direct which ingredients you want in the salad. I don't know!? I ordered a Greek salad, just put what's supposed to go in there! I don't like leaving there feeling like I screwed it up, and the past few times, basic things (like feta) have been left out. Wish they would improve that.

Yelp
Quick note: This is a five-star in context. This area is surrounded by the dead-eyed redwoods of office lunch cuisine (Clover, Dig In, Cosi), which all charge $10+ for bowls of rice and chicken grease, so Falafel King is basically the skinny kid at downtown's fat camp. With that ringing endorsement, I'll just say Falafel King is fast, cheap and tasty. It's not a Tesla mounted on a rocket, but it's the '08 Corolla that'll get you there. It's also a super nice touch that they give you a free falafel just for standing there. It's hilarious how much of a difference that makes. If I'm hungry and there's the possibility of a fried ball of taste in my mouth in the next two seconds, there's some kind of primal instinct that takes over. So if you're looking for a quick, satisfying bite and you don't want to deal with the hyper-manic order-takers at the chains, Falafel King's got a falafel ball waiting for you.
google avatar

Yelp
There are so many falafel restaurants now within a few blocks of this place that it no longer stands out. However, it is still a solid quick meal option. The prices have risen a lot from their old days on Winter St., but I still enjoy their falafel salads with chicken or their lamb Kafka kabobs. The tabouli has a refreshing amount of lemon to cut the grease with the falafel, and the hummus is consistently good. The freshness of the tomatoes in the salad varies, and the falafel salad would be pretty small if you don't add the chicken. The king may not be royalty anymore, but it's still worthy of an occasional stop for lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
Best chicken shawarma and falafel downtown, and probably city-wide. Their opening multiple locations didn't decrease quality. Staff is always nice, fast, and helpful. Huge portions.
google avatar

Vivian C.

Yelp
Yes, I was a Falafel King newbie. I knew they gave their customers a falafel to eat as they waited in line, but that's basically it. Two men were handling orders the time of my lunch visit. The fellow further in the line, closer to the door, waved me over, so I told him my order, he handed me a falafel, and worked on putting together my dish. I got the chicken kebab plate (with rice and salad) $8.50. There was one falafel tucked in with the single de-skewered line of meat, humus, salad, and rice. Was I gyped with just the one falafel? Some of the photos on Yelp show two... The falafel was nice, with a good crispy crust. The cucumber fresh and crisp, though a bit sour. The humus had too much lemon. The rice was good. The chicken tender. The pita bread which accompanied it was a bit small a portion.
google avatar

Sravani D.

Yelp
This is my go-to lunch place while at work. Its totally packed during lunch hours but the service is usually quick. Having tried most of the Mediterranean and Greek places around the Downtown area,I would say this place has the best falafel, both in terms of taste and consistently keeping it good. The falafel and chicken wraps are good and I personally feel they serve the perfect lunch portions. The plates are usually huge in portions. One thing I personally would avoid are the pickles,I found them not-so-crisp and less appealing when compared to other items served.
google avatar

Seelia Y.

Yelp
We came in and asked if we could try the falafel before we bought it. The server was more than happy to give us a whole falafel and even gave us some hummus too. We definitely ordered the falafels to go. The falafels are crispy on the outside. The hummus is really smooth but not too strongly flavored. The hummus really added moisture to the falafel.
google avatar

Yelp
Falafel king trapped me with a sample. I went looking to get a smoothie left out with a falafel sandwich and falafel plate. This is how they got me I came in asking about the smoothie the let me know they do not have smoothies and offered me a sample of a fresh Falafel. It was so good that I ordered a sandwich. While the guy was packing up my food, he gave me another free sample, and I was ordering a plate. Now I enjoyed every bite, but I was not expecting on having falafels. Now I so to falafel king every time I go to Boston.
google avatar

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place since I was in the area and needed to grab a quick bite. Everyone in line gets to try the falafel + hummus for free. The falafel is just right amount of crispy on the outside, and softer and hot on the inside. It's the best falafel I've ever had (disclaimer: I'm not a falafel expert). I decided to get the chicken shawarma since I wanted some meat. It was a bit saltier than I would've liked, but still good. Veggies are fresh. The portion is huge, and I wasn't able to finish it. The line moves quickly, and there are a few small tables that will do the trick for seating. I would love to return to have a full falafel meal.
google avatar

Linda E.

Yelp
If you're looking for a decent meal at a decent price point, this place is for you. The portions are huge and the quality is good. I've tried much better kebabs and Mediterranean food but if youre in the area this is a good choice. I was disappointed they dint offer French fries bc usually these are offered at other like establishments. The best thing here is definitely the falafel but they just need to work on everything else. This is not a dining destination or a place you should go out of your way to enjoy but if you're close by, it will do!
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Wow this spot is absolutely amazing! Staff was super friendly and was in and out quickly. Got the mixed plate and I highly recommend it. Always nice to support local business during these tough times.
google avatar

Yelp
Hail King Falafel, he was outside the shop and asked how I liked my food. Dreams of beautiful light fluffy falafels swirling on plates sandwiches or part of another pita sandwich. I like the King Special for 10. a roll up pita with your choice of filling (chick, lamb, etc. or vegetarian, pick out what you want in your order -fresh toms., cukes, other vegetables, yougurt sauce, hummus, etc. it's wrapped or plated, you are good to go. A quick tasty fresh lunch has arrived at the kingdom. Get your shawarma on here.

Yelp
I used to work at Galaxy Nails and Spa on Winter Street and my go to for lunch was Falafel King which was downstairs. When we had let go of our salon, we stopped coming to downtown Boston. Years later I decided to find this restaurant and learned that it was no longer on winter street anymore. Instead, they had opened a much bigger and better restaurant down the street. I couldn't believe it! The food still tasted just as good as before. I am so happy for Falafel King's success and expansion! Back then the portions was huge, and present day its still huge! The rice was perfectly seasoned, the chicken kabob was still moist and flavorful. On top of it, the toubelleh and salad oh and I can't forget the homemade falafel itself. I have nothing but good things to say about the food and the people who serve. I always stop by here to bring home about 5 trays of food since I live an hour away.

Yelp
If you've ever dined at Amelias tacqueria on Huntington this will remind you a bit of it except they temper it with a free falafel while you order. Ordered a falafel hummus combo wrap, it was supposed to come with tabouli but I didn't get any. Be vocal folks. If you order online notice how a combo roll-up w/ falafel is $8.75, combo roll-up falafel/hummus/tabouli is $8.35, falafel vegetarian roll up is $7.85. What are the differences? Why is straight up falafel more expensive and what makes that a combo? How many falafel do they include in each roll-up then? Anyways, it's downtown Boston so eating out is expected to be expensive... Take your time and decide what you want. Great food, fresh ingredients, and it really satisfies.

Peter O.

Yelp
Great spot for a fast lunch if you're on the run! The portions are generous, food has great flavor and tastes fresh, and staff are beyond friendly! I recommend getting any of the plate portions, and if you can find time sit by the window and channel some main character energy.

Robert Q.

Yelp
Bought lunch there yesterday and got the mixed shwarma plate. Found a dead bug in my food under the hummus! GROSS!!! Tried to call but the phone number listed but it seems to be a fax number. Sent a message through their website and got no response. Never going back.

Yelp
There are many feudal falafel lords in Boston, but only one king. The path has been littered with conflict and controversy, but through it all a true king has emerged. Service is fast and furious and they will offer you a sample, which is a nice touch. I only ever get the falafel roll-up and it's very good. I did venture away from my comfort zone once in an effort to meet the $8 (I think) credit card minimum and ended up with some kind of fried, semi-dry, meat pod. I think all it needed was yogurt sauce, but I was too shocked after the first bite to think clearly and rolled it to some pigeons who didn't seem to mind the dryness. No, wait...that was a falafel place up the street; I beg your forgiveness my King! I have been to a few falafel places downtown, and although I like BlackSeed (which has a good lox bagel and a nicer interior) on Tremont, I give the nod to the King. All hail. Brought to you with generous support from the Titanic Nut Company.

Yelp
Good service and delicious food. Bonus that this place is walking distance for me. Parking and traffic on Hancock Street can be tricky. You may have to park on a side street if you pick up here.

Yelp
Noticed a long line out the door for lunch so went later. Been twice and now understand the long line. Very fresh and delicious. Had chicken kabob plate both times. Very friendly and fast.
