Yelp
Update: still kicking dolmas & taking names, Falafel Salam takes the whole cliché falafel/gyro stand concept and gives it an artisan bump, with soft, pillowy pita bread, house-made preserves, maybe the juiciest, spiciest gyro meat I've ever tasted (and I've had a few. Hundred.), and an offering of delicious beverages (tea and juice drinks, ciders and beers) that compliment their food.
Don't hesitate-get "The Hesitator" ($14). That's the name of their sample platter of gyro meat, shawarma chicken, dolmas, falafel, hummus, a sampling of their house-made pickles (which they sell retail, btw), their wonderful, creamy/tangy red slaw, and a Mediterranean salad. Oh: and don't you dare miss their don't-miss, famous puffy pita bread, to mop the tahini sauce. Awesome! And unmissable. :)
Feel free to yell, "Puffy Pitas!" in appreciation. We did.
I highly recommend a side of the green hot sauce (more of an herbed chili paste, really) and if you're really hungry, a side of Greek fries with cardamom catsup.
Ooo, and if you're drinking, wash down this colorful flavor-fest with a Turkish coffee stout. It's not as overwhelming as it sounds, with a smooth, malty body and dark chocolate bitter finish that seems to sweeten the food and bring out the savory flavors.
If you're not drinking....well, first off I recommend taking it up, on principle. But: they also have yummy tea concoctions and fruity inventions to tickle your fancy.
Get in here before they get bought out by Subway or something. Remember people, our fate is in your hands! Will we become a big, ugly Californian strip mall that used to be a neat, funky place called Seattle, or do we support our local originals, and vote with our money for our neighborhood entrepreneurs? Resist. Don't eat corporate "food". It's not just not good for you; it's not good for your town.
Missing star for some poorly washed silverware and slightly awkward, forgetful (though friendly) service. But dang close to perfect, especially on the plate. Eat here. It's noms. Recommended!
