Falconara Charming House & Resort

"You’d be forgiven for hesitating as you pull up to Falconara, off a main highway and not far from the industrial eyesore of Gela. Once you’re inside the gates, however, things look up considerably. The hotel’s backdrop is a medieval castle and a private beach with pristine coves—a rarity on Sicily’s overbuilt coastline. Of the 65 rooms, the 39 in the Club House are done in a spartan yet chic style, with four-poster beds and rattan chaise longues. Oversized furniture is scattered throughout, and there’s a lovely pool. The restaurant is both inexpensive and good, and staff are welcoming. This is a spot for beach lovers rather than those on an extensive sightseeing schedule."

You will probably find much better for the price. Greenblue took over this place, renovated a little, but still here and there things are old and not working. The place and location would have a lot of potential, yet the staff is still inexperienced and not well trained. Even though we do speak Italian staff didn't inform us what the resort has to offer, no map given, didn't know the dinner menu, didn't mention the Pizzeria right in front and missed to mention the spa regulations. Spa charges am EXTRA 20 EUR per person, the spa manager however was super professional (we didn't use it at the end though). Pool was not cleaned, or in effect had turned GREENBLUE 😜(somehow cleaning machine not running). Breakfast okay for international standards, nothing special.

Friendly staff, they speak English. Breakfast was okay, every day the same. Misleading beach pictures. The beach is full of rocks and the water is not easily accesable. Also the water is dirty, full of plants. If u are here for a swimming vacation, I dont reccomend this place. U get insects on you, on the beach because of the bushes behind you. We even had ants in our room and bed..

Very delusional, the staff are clearly inexperienced and have no clue of what they’re doing. Payed for a big room just for be moved into a smaller one, because it wasn’t ready/clean. The restaurant is nice but the menus (dinner and lunch) are very choice limited, the service itself it’s meh. Room with a bathroom not so clean, mysterious spots on the walls and curtains too. Internet/Connection completely absent in the rooms we had. What a shame, the location and view is beautiful, it should be definitely managed better. For being a high priced place and rooms, it wasn’t worth it.

Professionalism of staff non existent esp waiter during Saturday lunch time. Food limited and small servings. Room clean but in desperate need of an upgrade. No internet in rooms. Breakfast on Sundays consists of an array of sweet food only. Nothing avaiable for gluten free or diabetic. Disappointing and overly priced

Excellent hotel with a view to castle Falconara. Private beach which allows guests to rest and spend time in a quiet place away from the children. Great service especially in the restaurant and bar. In the evenings relaxing Italian music. Massage in the spa is also excellent. I highly recommended.

A nice hotel, especially the outdoor area. Unfortunately the restaurant is definitely not what one expects when in Italy :(

I am extremely unhappy with my stay at Falconara. I attended this hotel with my partner and 6 month old baby for a two night stay. As soon as I entered the room I found there to be an ant infestation. I have a phobia of ants. I told the receptionists who did not seem bothered (she sniggered) and advised me that she would get the room cleaned again as there were no rooms available for me on the first floor as requested. I also advised the receptionist that there was a load buzzing noise that sounded every two minutes which would prevent me from sleeping. The receptionist advised that she would get maintenance to sort this. I returned back to the room a while shortly (after being advised that it had been cleaned) to find that there was a foot print on the floor that was there previously. So it had clearly not been cleaned. I had to return to the reception desk yet again to complain. This was very frustrating as my day was spent complaining and completely ruined. The receptionist did advise that I could change into another ground floor room however on inspection this room also had ants or we could pay an extra €120 for an upgraded room. That night the buzzing continued even though this was meant to have been rectified by maintenance. I had a broken sleep and was very uncomfortable. Even though the room was cleaned there were still ants found. I feel very disappointed with my stay and upset on how I was treated by the receptionist Elonara. The customer service is lacking and myself and my family were made to feel very unwelcome. I requested a discount on the room due to the inconvenience and was advised this wasn't possible. I asked for the managers contact details in order to make a complaint and the receptionist would not give me these. She was very rude and I felt helpless! My stay wasn't satisfactory and as a result of this put a downer on my whole holiday. It's a shame because I love the hotels decor, the grounds are stunning and the food is yummy! I just wish we were treated better.

The resort is not bad as such, but it is not well maintained. Some part of the facilities are either destroyed or on its way to be destroyed. A lot of insects, basically it is very difficult to enjoy the beautiful garden of the hotel in the evening, because of insects. Despite the fact that the service by waiters and waitresses is really good, the way they handle the bills is very inappropriate. After every meal they offer you a scribbled bill to sign it, but there is nothing to indicate how much they are charging you for that. So there is no way to verify if you are paying the exact amount of your expenses when you check out. - Portions are really small and overpriced. - TV set in the room was really small, about 17". Practically useless. We are very disappointed with the possibilities to arrive at the destination. There were a number of issues which made our life quite difficult. 1. Location The hotel is no located t in Licata, it's about 10 km from Licata. The public transport is really bad organised, and it is extremely difficult to find someone in that town who can speak English. Nobody we talked to, could understand even numbers in English. 2. Arrangement of transfer by hotel We tried to call the hotel in order to arrange the transfer from Licata town to the hotel, and the staff tried to take advantage of the situation and told us that they can arrange a transfer with a private car, but for a 10 minutes drive they charge 60 Euros, which is ridiculously expensive. 3. After we arranged with the hotel staff the transfer to Licata where we could get the bus to the Catania Airport for 55 Euro, when we went to pay for it, the management of the hotel informed us 'kindly' that apparently the driver has a different night-fare which amounts to 80 Euro, and surprisingly enough the night fare applies (in this part of the world) from 00:00 to 08:00! And of course we had now choice so we had to pay that ridiculously high price.
