Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden (Velden am Wörthersee, Carinthia) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It sounds hopelessly old-fashioned, the idea of a 17th-century castle turned luxury hotel, alongside a placid lake in southern Austria. Indeed Velden am Wörthersee has centuries of resort-town history behind it, and the distinctive goldenrod-hued castle, Schloss Velden, has stood here on the shores of the “Austrian Riviera” since 1603. But the old castle has been kept up to date, and then some: it’s added to its holdings, and discreetly evolved into as modern a resort hotel as you’re likely to find anywhere: Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden." - Tablet Hotels

It was awesome, and I can't wait to go back. The place is amazing, and the hotel has everything you could want. The service was perfect. The only downside is that the rooms are a bit dated and could use a refresh.

What a stunning location! We truly loved Schlosshotel Velden. We travelled with our children and my MIL and everyone had a great time. The food was great, the location was unbeatable. Beautiful, large rooms, with everything you could need. We walked through the town of Velden, rode E-bikes around the lake, went paragliding and even shot down to Lake Bled for a day. One of the highlights of the trip was a boat ride out to dinner in Maria Worth, which was so stunning. Had the best time and would not hesitate to go back!

We stayed for two nights as a family at the Falkensteiner Hotel in Velden, booking two rooms under the same reservation. While the hotel enjoys a beautiful setting on the lake and has impressive facilities, our experience fell short of what’s expected from a true 5-star property. What we liked: - The lakeside location is superb, with direct access to Wörthersee and elegant hotel design. - The wellness area is well-maintained and relaxing. - Some staff were friendly and professional. - Breakfast was varied and of good quality. But several issues were unacceptable at this level: - Room allocation: Despite a shared family booking, we were placed on different floors in opposite ends of the hotel. No effort was made to keep us even remotely close. - Child supplement, no added value: We were charged €80 per night for our child, but received no third towel or any child-specific amenities — not even the basics. - In-room slippers: Only size 40 slippers were provided, which were unusable for an adult with size 44 feet. - Bathroom functionality: The towel dryer didn’t work, and the shower temperature was impossible to adjust — swinging between scalding and freezing. - Language barrier: Several breakfast staff could not speak English, which is surprising and inconvenient in a hotel catering to international guests. - Wine pricing: Wines in the restaurant were hugely overpriced, even by luxury hotel standards, which took away from the overall dining experience. In summary, the hotel has the infrastructure and location of a premium destination, but the service, coordination, and guest experience need significant improvement. It felt like a 4-star stay priced and presented as 5-star. With better attention to detail and guest needs, this could be a truly outstanding hotel. For now, expectations should be adjusted accordingly.

Total recommendation if you can afford it (we are members of their loyalty program so we got some discount). Yes, it is kitschy, especially if you know the TV Program “Ein Schloss am Wörthersee” (A castle on the Wörthersee). But the hotel they made out of this castle is really exceptional. Not just the renovated castle, but also the extension they built, all rooms are absolutely 5* standard, the same goes for the service. They read every wish from your mind, this is e.g. visible at breakfast – which is by the way one of the best breakfasts I ever had. Great buffet with high quality products, but you can also order stuff like a “Buddha bowl” or “Egg benedict”.|The pool and sauna are also perfect, there are always enough fresh towels and the sauna service is really good. The beach area is wonderful, staff prepares a sunbed for you as soon as they see you from a distance, you really feel like a star from the TV series. Which makes you think of this kitschy TV program again! :-o|All in all, total recommendation!

The location and the staff is excelent, and they have clean rooms, a very nice restaurant and a super-good spa, but in my room there was a moldy pole and there was a little door (the door was not locked) in which I found lots of cables, the internet router and god forbid, a child might have touched it. This things are not normal for a 5-stars hotel, and please be sure that the rooms are secured! In rest everything was magnificent!

I’ve been here twice now. I really love it here and hope I’ll come back another time. The breakfast is amazing. And I don’t really see the staff but my room always gets cleaned and I find it amazing here. I recommend for families with kids. The pool and privat beach are also very nice.

Wonderful architecture and design, elegant blend of tradition and modern, comfortable and spacious room, with amazing views. But none of that would matter if it weren't for the truly attentive and accommodating staff and their services. They make your stay uncomparable to anywhere else.

Beautiful spa, beach club and location, the service is missing a beat, turndown service needs to be requested, spa reception lady is not professional, leaves her job post at will without a substitute, leaving guests waiting and wondering how to call for service. The hotel is generally under staffed. I would recommend the new wing, the schools is pretty from the outside, but room layout and electrical wirings are convoluted.
