"The counter kitchen arrayed around a hearth suggests an open-air bonfire. The eyes are riveted to the chef as he grills the meat, throwing charcoal on the fire. The use of grilling close to the flame, grilling over an open hearth and directly placing ingredients on the charcoal, brings the ingredients and brightly burning charcoal into a tight embrace. Porchetta, patiently cooked for over an hour, is a popular item. Straw-grilled fish and foil-grilled vegetables whet curiosity and appetite. The chef works with practiced ease, laser-focused on the foodstuffs." - Michelin Inspector

We had a healthy stroll from the Tokyo Westin to Restaurant Falo, and once we arrived, our assigned seats at the humongous bar were pointed out to us. Falo has a unique decor, kinda like you're dining in a cave. I can't say if I liked it or not. It was different, and that's cool. We sat down and realized our seats were the last two unoccupied. Falo is very popular with the young and hip. We're not young or hip. My spouse and I do not speak Japanese, and the menu was difficult to navigate, but we managed. The food was a fusion of Italian and Japanese with a little creative license thrown in. Most dishes were cooked on the charcoal grill, the centerpiece of this underground den. The food tasted pretty good, but there is no way I can describe what we ate. The photos will have to suffice. The servers and cooks are on display in the center of the bar, and Falo has a frenetic pace. No one has time to converse with you. I'm a gabber, and so I missed that. Most people will enjoy Falo. The dishes were tasty. For us, it was a bit too trendy, and the pace did not allow for relaxation. Yet, what do I know? I'm 75 and ready to be put out to pasture.

Wow. What a fantastic Japanese take on Italian food. It made my Italian girlfriend miss home. The personable chefs that served almost omakase-esque cooking will make this an experience to look back on fondly until next time we come back

Highly recommend this place for an intimate but delicious meal. A little above your regular restaurant but very suitable for a small gathering of 2-3 or 4 people and perfect for a date night ! The food is a real pleasure and particularly suggest you try the meat there !

Creative and delicious Italian inspired food, good wine selection(mostly natural though) and comfy atmosphere with counter seating around open kitchen.

Ambience was great - open kitchen style so no matter where you sit you’ve a good view of the action. Food wise, the grilled Katsuo and the grilled pork were excellent. The only thing I wasn’t impressed by was the pasta. Had better pasta at a lower price elsewhere. Wine selection was not too bad too. Overall would visit again to try the other menu items.

A unique experience unlike any I’ve had. They welcomed us with a translated menu that had all the chef recommendations, including the salmon roe toast and venison with mushrooms (both pictured). We also tried the duck, and it was superb (and a little on the spicy side, which was a pleasant surprise). watching them prepare and assemble artful meals is a mesmerizing experience, especially when all sorts of meat are marinated over the coals and you get to see the cooking process. We also tried the milk gelato for dessert and it tasted just like Hokkaido milk ice cream, except the texture was much creamier. Definitely give them a try, but call to make a reservation!

Google
すべてがおいしい!! Well worthy of its inclusion in the Michelin Guide. An amazing experience watching the chef cook on open wood coal flames. Make sure this is included in your Tokyo Fine Dining list. Bookings are essential to avoid disappointment.

Great Japanese Italian food in a cool atmosphere with an open kitchen and charcoal grill. Service was excellent and almost every dish we had was delicious. There's a 300 yen per person table charge that comes with a tasting of their gazpacho. My wife and I ordered the corn pana cotta with sea urchin, squid ink rice croquettes, grilled mackerel (sanma), lasagna, grilled lamb, Genovese pasta, and bread. The bread we got was a little burnt and the pasta tasted a little different from the pesto we're used to but was cooked perfectly al dente. Every other dish was amazing. My wife, who typically doesn't like mackerel, found that fish to be very good too. We got the zabaione ice cream for dessert which was OK. Overall, we had a great experience and would come back. We also came by on a Wednesday night at 7:30 PM without reservations and they were able to seat us without any problems. There were 8 other diners that night and I think the restaurant seats about 25.

Yelp
About halfway through our trip my buddy and I decided we wanted to try Japanese-Italian fusion and somehow stumbled on this place. I wasn't sure what to expect when we made a reservation here, but was pleasantly surprised and blown away by the meal I had here. The interior of the restaurant is stunning. A few steps below ground level, the restaurant is accentuated with a super modern interior featuring a 4 sided counter with the open kitchen front row center as the main event. Watching this culinary team work is incredible to see as the head chef masterfully works the hot coals of a classic brick grill. The food was incredible. The front of the menu gives you suggestions on how to order (a few appetizers per person plus a main) and everything we got was meant to be shared. We had the Porchetta, grilled yellowtail, lasagna, stuffed sausage mushroom and the carbonara -- all were excellent and unique. The food does come out as it's ready so the order and timing was a bit odd at times but the surprise of what we were getting next added to the experience in its own way. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something tasty and unique on the Italian side in Tokyo. I suggest getting a reservation earlier than 8PM as a few of the items we wanted to try were already gone by the time we were seated.

Yelp
This is my third five star review in a week. It's been a good week. Falo is a new Italian place recently written up in the always-prescient Japan times. It's an "Italian izakaya" which I guess means it's small plates with the plates not really that small in many cases. Seating is counter style around a small kitchen with a prominent charcoal grill. The wines are cheap and good and the porchetta is fantastic, probably in no small part because you can see and small it being grilled to perfection just a few yards from your plate. In the super hip daikanyama neighborhood which is fun.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! The service was excellent everyone from the server to the chef was extremely nice to us. Thye also have a english menu which was a bonus. The food was one of the best meals i had in japan. The tofu with uni was the highlight of the night! I could eat 10 of those. Ive never had tofu that was so smooth and creamy and paired perfectly with the uni. Overall the food was 5 stars i had to come back two night in a row during my visit in japan because it was so good! Highly recommend this place and reservations is definitely a must.
