Long Beach Restaurants Force Pro Cycling Tour to Change Route | Eater LA

"I noted that this oceanfront restaurant could be affected by street closures when Long Beach hosts the first leg of the Amgen Tour of California on May 13 (Mother’s Day); city organizers agreed to alter the race route to accommodate local restaurants after the Downtown Long Beach Alliance relayed owners’ concerns, and many of the DLBA’s requests were accepted — drivers can use Pine Avenue and there will be entry into Shoreline Village — though it appears no adjustments were made to Fourth Street or Belmont Shore." - Mona Holmes

Popped in on a quiet Friday afternoon, place was quiet but looked the part inside... brisket sandwich and pulled chicken sandwich ordered... beers and food came very quickly. The brisket was awful... at best can best described as bits that were ready for the bin from previous cooks chopped up, heated up and popped on a bun. Not tender at all and not what a smokehouse should be offering. Friend said chicken was good. On a plus their bbq sauces where very very good but unfortunately they were badly needed for the brisket

This was my very first time trying barbecue — ever — and it couldn’t have been better! I’ve been pescatarian/vegetarian since 2008, so I wanted this to be special, and it absolutely was. Jason was amazing — he gave us great suggestions, encouraged us to step out of our comfort zone, and even let us sample a few things before ordering. We ended up getting the Burnt Ends and Texas Beef Brisket, and wow — the burnt ends literally melted in my mouth, and the brisket was so juicy and flavorful. We also tried the coleslaw, mac and cheese, and Wilbur Beans. The coleslaw was crisp and refreshing, the mac and cheese had just the right jalapeño kick, and the beans were smoky and rich. The banana pudding was also very delicious. So light and fluffy. The perfect way to end a meal. 10/10 — highly recommend coming here!

Drove to LB for the AYCE chicken wing deal. It was alright. Super dim. Floors sticky. Waters/Sodas took forever. They were not very busy. Cornbread was great. Liked the flavor of the wings, Buffalo. Very underwhelming first experience.

I was really looking forward to a BBQ meal, but the pork rib tips and brisket completely ruined the experience. Instead of that tender, fall-off-the-bone texture you expect for rib tips, they were tough and unpleasantly fatty. The brisket wasn’t much better. The fat hadn’t rendered down properly, leaving it greasy and hard to swallow. Good brisket should melt in your mouth with a smoky crust and juicy interior — this was more like something that had been pulled from the smoker too early. For a BBQ joint, properly cooking the meat should be non-negotiable. Why is there corn in the mac and cheese?! Some things just don’t need reinventing — and creamy, cheesy mac is one of them. The corn adds a weird sweetness and crunch that doesn’t belong with all that gooey cheese. It’s like two sides collided on the plate and someone decided to call it innovation. I’ll give points for creativity, but honestly, I just want my mac and cheese to taste like… well, mac and cheese. The collard greens were pretty bland; they needed more seasoning, maybe a bit of salt, spice, or smoked flavor to bring them to life. Unfortunately, Famous Dave’s did not have my palate in mind.

Famous Dave is one of my best barbecue place to come and eat some baby back ribs, or ribs Louisiana style, bring the wife and the kids to enjoy some ribs, just for the halibut!

Very disappointing experience. The brisket was extremely tough and nearly impossible to chew… it felt like it had been smoked days ago and reheated. To make matters worse, not once did the server check in to ask how our food was or offer refills. Overall, the quality and service were far below expectations.

Took 20 minutes just to get a server. Took 40 minutes just to get our food. The place was not very busy. Other tables around us sat with dirty dishes and cups the whole time we were there. I’ve owned and operated restaurants in the past and I know it starts w management first and servers 2nd. Food was subpar. I do not recommend this place. This place needs to do better!

ARE YOU SERIOUS??? If you’re in the mood for some unforgettable BBQ, Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que is a must-visit, especially if you’re coming from out of town! I was visiting from Dallas, TX, and after hearing rave reviews from my uncle, I had to give it a try. I ordered the All American Platter but swapped the fried chicken for Bar-B-Q chicken, and it was a fantastic decision. The food was absolutely amazing! The ribs and beans were full of flavor—definitely “to die for.” And let me tell you, those cornbread muffins were the real stars: soft, sweet, and with just a touch of heat—so good they are “to kill for.” Honestly, I wish we had a Famous Dave’s in Dallas because I’d be there all the time. The atmosphere was also spot on: peaceful, relaxed, and welcoming, perfect for enjoying great food. I’m really hoping this location is still around next time I visit California because it’s already on my list for a return trip. If you’re in town, do yourself a favor and get the All American Platter—you won’t be disappointed!
