New Restaurant Openings in Seattle for 2021 | Eater Seattle

"This Cantonese barbecue spot in Issaquah focuses on roasted meats—duck, char siu, braised chicken legs—alongside congee and stir-fries for takeout and limited on-site dining, with delivery via major apps." - Gabe Guarente

A great restaurant for the area. Thank you to the owners for brining this style of Chinese BBQ. I'm from the birthplace of American Chinese BBQ cuisine (San Francisco) so there's a lot of scrutiny . The food here warmed my heart since it reminds me of the food I grew up with. Try the Royal Chicken. It's moist and tender. Dip in the traditional oil/ginger/scallion sauce for the full experience. Also order the roast duck. If you are looking for a full and happy belly, here's the place at the restaurant or take out for home. As an American, you will also find the food here familiar and well prepared. The service is quick and courteous. The restaurant is a typical fast food restaurant, but with the family experience.

First time to Famous Kitchen, hunger level 3 out 5. Wanted something good -found it. Kitchen able to do a Mongolian chicken. Spicy is on target and flavorful. I like heat/spice and it did just right. Use to having broccoli with dish but the fried noodles were okay. Rice was perfect, curious if they offer brown. Ordered at the counter for dine in. Fast and efficient staff and food came out hot. Awesome, will be back for more sampling of the menu.

So nice to have a Chinese BBQ nearby! Loved the roast pork with crunchy skin and also Singapore fried noodles. Plenty of parking!

Google
Got Mongolian beef the most greasy plate I've ever had the rice noodle things were very dry and stale. The meat didnt taste very good either. Can feel the grease sitting in my throught after making me want to puke up Had to ask for a for could barely understand what she was saying and its way overpriced, if I wasn't so hungry wouldn't have eaten it.

Google
Best in town roast duck and roast pork! My mom also like the wonton noddle. Really authentic Cantonese food~

Google
Ordered take away. Chicken wasn’t properly cleaned and dozens of feathers were intact. Feathers were present on each cut but still given to us. Quite disgusting. I’ve had this dish in both China and Singapore numerous times, and not once did it even have a single feather.

Update: I just picked up sweest and sour pork yesterday morning. There are not much meat the take out container is not even 1/2 full and the meat is very fatty. Very disappointed it. They weigh the takeout box with your bbq pork. Also, the guy chopped my bbq and didn't wash his hands after taking a nap at the table. Pretty gross. Salted fish chicken fried rice was really good; white cut chicken was great, but I was very disappointed with shrimp wonton noodles soup (shrimp in wonton was very dried and no flavor). Best Wonton Noodle Soup is in Seattle, Beacon Dim Sum House in Seattle!

Google
We came here for their wonton noodle soup and also ordered the Sam-pan congee along with Chinese donuts. The wontons were excellent—they were packed with shrimp, which tasted very fresh. The soup base was perfect: flavorful but not too salty. The Chinese donuts were also delicious, especially when dipped in the congee—my kid loved it! The Sam-pan congee had fish and shrimp, so if you’re a seafood lover, it’s definitely worth trying. The lady who served us was very friendly and welcoming. We’ll definitely come back to try their BBQ pork and BBQ duck next time!

Yelp
On the way home picked up some Chinese bbq pork (char sui) and roast pig to go along with a couple of other dishes. Their Chinese style bbq and roast meats are some of the best tasting on the eastside in my opinion. Saves me a drive into Seattle !!, Service is always cordial, and quick. This is my go to in Issaquah!! Food is always tasty.

Yelp
This one was a tough one to rate. On the one hand, I loved the menu and the duo of roast and BBQ pork was one of the better versions I have had in the Seattle area, but it's tough to compare to versions in HK, Singapore or even Vancouver. Of the two versions, the roast pork belly was definitely better, crisp but not dry with a good ratio of fat to meat. The char siu , however, was dry and also not very flavorful. Perhaps some sweet soy or a sauce might have helped? One orders at the counter and the food arrives quickly. The place is clean and there is plenty of parking. So would I come back here? Definitely, if I am in the area. But next time, I'll try some other items even though I love char siu.

Yelp
Normally eat here for the BBQ meats. Highly recommend! Service - was good, no complaints. Food came out fast. Ambiance - your average bbq spot. There are a couple of spots for dining in. Food - the Bbq meats are good. The roasted pork is perfect. Skin is extra crispy and meat is juicy. The duck was good and flavorful as well. Each dish gives you decent portions. All of this fed six people and had plenty of leftovers to bring home.

Yelp
Famous Kitchen was great find for a spontaneous lunch stop (8/25/24). Clean interior, welcoming counter person. My two top was literally facing the hot case that held the roast ducks, roast pork, other proteins and plate prep area. Clearly they do brisk takeout and onsite dining. It was fascinating to see the interaction between the meat cutter with an older woman ordering takeout. She had specific requirements and quantities of various proteins. I decided on hot tea and a duo rice plate ($17.99). I selected the roast pork, roast duck with steamed rice, flavorful sauce, and baby bok choy. Wow - this was fantastic! It reminded me of a plate entree I had in Richmond, BC. The meats were so succulent, generous rice, and nicely steamed bok choy. The menu has a variety of other entrees, I just happen to fixate on the roasted meats during this initial visit, lol. I'm still thinking about this lunch. Definitely recommended!

Yelp
As someone who is Cantonese, I appreciate going to a place on the eastside that has food from one of my home country. Cantonese food is more tough to find as Szechuanese and Taiwanese foods are taking over. But I was fascinated by this place. The sweet and sour chicken has a nice flow of flavor that tasted amazing and the trio was even better. The Char Siu and the duck are spectacular. I will definitely be back to take more of my family here
google avatar

Yelp
This Kitchen is so amazing. I ordered the beef brisket noodle soup. And Mongolian beef , Walnut Shrimp . Dry Fried String Bean. This restaurant price good and has high quality. The all of the BBQ is this restaurant the best food.
google avatar

Tammy W.

Yelp
Really wanted to love this place because it's so close to home. I ordered 1.5 pounds of BBQ pork and part of it was left over from day before, could tell from it being so dry while the other piece was ok. They clearly mixed in fresh and overnight ones together. Duck was good. Beef fried noodle was ok. The salted chicken fried rice was terrible though, no "wok hei" like they used fresh rice to make it so it was kinda too soggy. I ordered take out so I guess they felt they could give me left over dried pork. If you order take out make sure you look at it before purchasing.

Yelp
Having recently moved from Bellevue to the peaceful town of Issaquah, I had to say goodbye to the convenience of Bellevue's vibrant Asian restaurant scene. Luckily, I discovered Famous Kitchen, which offers some of the most delicious Cantonese dishes and roasted meats (duck, pork, chicken). My favorite--the roasted duck--did not disappoint. Unlike other places where the duck is mostly bones, the portions here are very meaty, and the flavor is perfectly balanced--just the right amount of seasoning without being too salty. We've explored several other dishes on the menu, many of which we've never seen or heard of anywhere else. It's definitely a hidden gem, offering a unique and flavorful dining experience.

Yelp
Been craving beef chow fun and this was the best option in Issaquah. It was delicious but a bit heavy on the oil so had to drink a lot of hot tea after. Have had their roast duck before and that was also good. Would like to go back and try other items on their menu. We don't have many Chinese restaurants in Issaquah so if you haven't tried this place it's a great option without having to drive all the way to ID especially when it's so rough down there.

Kaitlyn L.

Yelp
roasted duck and roasted pork are our favorite! my mom also like the wontun noodle that she think is competetive with what we have in Guangzhou
google avatar

Yelp
I wasn't a fan. I got the trio combo and all the meat tasted the same. Lots of soy sauce marinade. Service was really fast!

Yelp
All right, here's the TLDR: fantastic roast duck here and nothing else stood out. Went for a weirdly timed meal with a few friends on a Saturday around 4 PM and Famous Kitchen was empty besides us, but quite a few people rolled in to pick up to-go orders. The food came out exceptionally fast and there's plenty of parking in the huge shopping plaza they're located in. Signature Duck (4.5/5): Super fatty, moist, savory, and perfect amount of salt (which for this dish is a lot). Outstanding roast duck and the pricing is fairly reasonable. Keep in mind, this isn't Peking style, so it's not the crispy skin type. Roasted Pork (3.25/5): I appreciated how crunchy the skin was, but the actual meat itself was a bit too tough and chewy for my preference. Honey Char Siu (3.75/5): Solid char siu, some pieces that were fatty were really amazing, but others were a tad dry. Flavor was fairly solid with good balance between salty and sweet. Beef Chow Fun (2.75/5): Noodles were overcooked and dish was insanely bland for some reason. Beef was very tender which was great, but couldn't make up for the lack of flavor.

Yelp
Everything was EXCELLENT! We tried the BBQ Pork, BBQ, Green Beans, Spring Rolls, Noodles, Friend Rice, Mongolian Beef. We will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
I was drawn in by the high reviews and praises of this place having "the best BBQ" but this is very much not it. Some of the worst Cantonese BBQ I've had. Got takeout and all of the meats were bland. Roast pork was all fat, pretty sure they gave us the low quality end piece (see pic for reference). It's overpriced too. Place was empty when we entered and probably for good reason. Despite it being empty, it took a while to get my order.

Yelp
Great food! Love roast duck and Chow Fun! Will recommend to friends and family! Cantonese style!

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick dinner pick up. I got roasted crispy pork, bbq cha siu pork and noodle with beef. Truthfully i was excited and had high expectations after reading the other reviews. The service was quick, perfect for a fast dinner. However the dishes were very oily, especially the duck and noodles. I personally will consider other places.

Thanhquyen N.

Yelp
Perfect location for Chinese comfort food!!! I forgot to take the pictures! I ordered the roast duck, salty fish and chicken fried rice and Singapore fried noodles. Thank goodness I don't have to drive to Bellevue or Seattle!

Becca H.

Yelp
If you are sitting at home trying to think of a great place to have some soul food.. hit Famous Kitchen and go hungry. I haven't had a single complaint about anything I have ordered, including appetizers, and I am a picky eater. The Mongolian beef is my favorite. Call ahead to check on seating, just in case they have a dinner time rush. Enjoy your meal!
google avatar

Yelp
Duck is good, everything else is mid, pick up to go when you are lazy and craving chinese food. Not a lot of good roast duck around
google avatar

Antwan N.

Yelp
I came in with high expectations due to good reviews but this place is mid compared to other Asian bbq places. My first plate the food was not even hot. Then I found a hair on the bbq pork. They were nice enough to replace the entire plate which came out way hotter. The duck was average and pork was ok. Disappointed for sure in my first and last experience.

Yelp
This is it, the place for Cantonese food and BBQ, and Issaquah is so lucky to have them here. Great food, friendly and efficient ordering on the phone, and easy pick up. They are quite pricier than I wish, though, so will dock 1 star for not being good value for money.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice service, clean and organized environment. Old fashion and traditional Guangdong style, love it!
google avatar

Lana J.

Yelp
Excellent family style Cantonese foods served here! We liked their Beef Chow Fun, Braised Tofu and Sea Bass with Vegetables, and Salt and Pepper Pork Chops. Portions were ample and service was fast and efficient.

Yelp
Incredibly authentic spot!! So glad I came to try this place out. Service was really friendly and efficient. Our food came so quickly and everything was fantastic. My family ordered a variety of dishes including beef chow fun, bbq pork, roasted pork, and green beans. Everything tasted authentic - my mom was raving about it too! They were even nice enough to accommodate adjustments since we requested less oil on the green beans. Such a superb meal!

Allison W.

Yelp
My husband and I were staying at a local hotel in Issaquah. A couple of people recently recommended Famous Kitchen for good Cantonese food. It did not disappoint! The food was very good! We ordered the BBQ Pork Noodle Soup, Mabo Tofu, Chinese Broccoli, Chicken Fried Rice, and Steamed White Rice. Our server Sandy was so friendly and pleasant towards us! When we told her we were visiting from Idaho, she was very helpful and informative. One rarely finds a person in a restaurant so friendly! We were very pleased! We intend to dine here in December when we return during our Christmas vacation.
google avatar

Christina N.

Yelp
Delicious Chinese BBQ! Everything here is served in a takeout container even if you're dining in, making it easier for you to take the leftovers home. Portions are generous which offsets the slightly higher prices. Btw, love the stir fried string beans!

D C.

Yelp
Great Hong Kong Cantonese comfort food on the East side. Consistently good. Quick service. Excellent for takeout roast meats to warm up at home and eat later or bring as a party platter.

Yelp
It has been a while since I have had good Cantonese BBQ, with only one place in mind in Seattle, so I was hoping to find more in the greater Seattle area. This place features some classics like BBQ pork, roasted pork, roasted duck, and chicken, to name a few, and those are the meats we ordered (half order each) along with yangzhou fried rice which is an egg fried rice with BBQ pork. The BBQ pork here is prepared pretty well and fairly tender. Roasted pork was also good, though the skin can be crispier. Roasted duck was fine - prepared as per usual, but there is just too much fat between the skin and the meat. The royal chicken is pretty solid, served cold intentionally, and pairing it with the green scallion sauce made it pretty enjoyable. Prices are quite high for what you get, but I guess the eastside is also not cheap. Overall, this is an acceptable option for Cantonese BBQ, not the best, but good to try if you are in the area.
google avatar

Tammy L.

Yelp
Best roast duck, roast pork and char sui in the area. Coming from Hawaii, I crave this stuff! And so many places do one right but not the others. Famous kitchen does it all. Do yourself a favor, call in an order, pick it up, take it home, and enjoy. Don't overthink it.

Yelp
I noticed that this place had opened during the pandemic, and I always wanted to try. I finally got a chance to come here with a friend to try. The Chinese BBQ looked so good that we were not sure which item we should order. We ended up ordering a BBQ pork rice and a roast duck rice, so that we could share and try out 2 items at the same time. We were a bit surprised that the dishes were placed and served in to-go boxes. It's actually convenient for us to bring home in case we couldn't finish. The meat, both BBQ pork and roast duck, was very tender and delicious. The dishes also came with some bok choy. I wish they could put more vegetables. However, overall, the dishes were good, and the price was reasonable. The restaurant was clean. I went to the bathroom, which was also clean. The staff was very friendly and polite. I would love to come back to try other items.

Kathy D.

Yelp
I ordered seafood tofu soup and Stir fry noodles through grubhub yesterday 6/4/25 when I arrived to pick up was claimed there's no order, I was wondering where my over $ 50.- go , they decided to rush make the order when I arrived home it was such a dark soy sauce noodles ( not as picture shown) it was awful and the seafood tofu soup was so watery not much stuff included except some little pieces of tofu no seafood , and it changed me $ 25.- for the watery soup, I was extremely disappointed! I don't think I would ever waste my time and money to order From Famous Kitchen again !

Ian Y.

Yelp
Was served super fatty pork belly when ordering to go. Make sure you check the content before leaving the establishment. This place also has the most expensive pork belly and roasted duck in the greater Seattle area.
google avatar

Lexie L.

Yelp
Service is really quick and fast but fried rice and chow fun are very bland and have little to no flavor. I called for a pick up order for three items and it was about 15 mins and quick check out. I expected the food to be good but was disappointed especially since the total was over $60. The only good food was the char siu and roasted duck and they ran out of roasted pork before 5pm.
google avatar

Ellen C.

Yelp
Honey char siu was my favorite. I tried the shoyu chicken and it was dry. Wouldn't recommend. I liked the combo of the rice with the honey char siu. The rice was cooked well and had a bit of sauce on it. I would come back just for the char siu.
google avatar

Kat N.

Yelp
While the food is fresh and fast, it's not very flavorful and it's pricey. The roast duck and roast pork looked soooo good in the display but it isn't as good as other Chinese BBQs. It's probably because there is not a lot of competition in the area. If you just have a craving for Chinese bbq and you're in the area, it's fine. But if you are used to going to places like LA or Vancouver, it can't compare. I was disappointed they didn't have hoisin sauce for the pork but instead had a pretty bland pork sauce of their own.
google avatar

Nathan M.

Yelp
This was the first time trying Peking duck, it was fantastic (At least from my very limited experience!) I really like how they have it hanging there, just like in the movies you know. Anyway, my wife did the fried rice and thought it could use some additional flavor, but the duck was amazing so I'm sticking to the 5 star review!

Yelp
We were in the area late on a Sunday after a music lesson and were looking for a spot for dinner and opted for here. We were the only ones dining in the restaurant (many were coming in for take out) but the table was clean and a perfect spot for dinner on a rainy grey Sunday night. The staff was so friendly and although they had run out of roasted pork there was still roast duck, char sui pork, and shoyu chicken and dinner came out quickly and was piping hot. In addition to the meat dishes we also had a shrimp congee and a chicken corn egg flour soup. Everything was good and it reminded us so much of bbq spots we had been to in Hong Kong years ago with the meat as good as what we had sampled there. My favorite dish was the char sui pork while my husband and daughter loved the duck. We have been meaning to come here since they opened but glad we finally visited and hoping for repeat Sunday night dinners. Also appreciated how spotless the bathroom was (my hands were super sticky so had to clean them before heading home :))!

Yelp
I am obsessed with Kau Kau in the International District, so when I learned there was a Chinese BBQ spot that had a similar menu on the eastside, I bookmarked that shit immediately. AND, now that I work part-time in Issaquah, it was only fate that brought Famous Kitchen and me together. I visited Famous Kitchen for lunch takeout before heading into the office and fortunately, I was one of the few patrons inside, so it didn't take long for my order. I ordered the dual combination of roasted and honey BBQ pork, which came with rice and baby bok choy. For the two meats, they give you about half a pound each, which was a hefty amount. I ended up eating half and taking the rest home for dinner. The meat was fantastic! I really enjoyed both meats, but roasted pork was so bomb. If you like pork belly, with some fattiness to it, then you will like the roasted pork here. The fat added great flavor and it was perfectly crispy yet tender. The honey BBQ pork was also delicious, and went well with the roasted pork since it had a different texture. I also loved that with the bed of rice, there was a sauce from the meats that drizzled down, adding to the dish. Plus, they have chili oil that you can ask for on the side, which I recommend adding. Spice up you life! I'm glad Famous Kitchen offers some Chinese BBQ meats that I can find on the eastside. In addition to BBQ meats, the menu was extensive, with many different items, from wonton soup, different fried rice dishes, to wok entrees. I'll definitely have to work my way through the menu, but you can count on me to get my roasted pork on!

Yelp
Coming home with 1lb of bbq pork and duo rice box with bbq pork & roasted pork. Total is about $40. Nothing is cheap in Greater Seattle. At least, I got good taste for my money from here. The shop is clean and spacious. Cashier and order service is friendly and easy. Tips: mixing 1tsp of honey and rose wine as dipping sauce for the bbq pork completes the flavor.

Jaynne L.

Yelp
Came here around 12:45pm on a weekend at. The service was great and was greeted right away and answered all only questions. I ordered the roast pork. I ordered 1/2 lb. The skin was very crispy. The flavor tasted like just pork and fat. It didn't taste like the 5 spice I was used to in other roasted pork, which is okay. I also had half a roast duck and that was tasty as well. The skin was nice and crispy, the meat was moist and flavorful. I did enjoy my order except the fat from the roast pork, but I will definitely come back. The service was good and I was greeted when I came in and he answered all my questions since it was my first time. I was out in about 5 minutes which was great because I had to go back to work! :)

Yelp
Went to check this place out after seeing a positive review on Instagram. We got there and we were instantly seated but kind of told to just wait. This table had just ordered and they hurried off to fulfill their order and give them their food before coming to taking our order. Finally when it was our turn to order, I asked a question and was kind of given a quick answer, like feeling super rushed. Got our food, I ordered the special with duck and bbq pork. The bbq pork was yummy but the duck was greasy! (I know Peking duck is greasy, but this was even greasier). Seemed kind of spendy too! Really wanted to love this place but it was just "ok" in my opinion.

Yelp
3 words: Shoyu Chicken Legs! This is my favorite thing to get from Famous Kitchen. It's so nice for people on the Eastside serving up traditional Chinese BBQ. Now, I don't have to drive to the International District for some roast pork, char siu/bbq pork, and roast duck. Every time I come here, I always have to get 2 to 3 chicken legs. I love the soy sauce it's marinated in and I always favor dark meat over white. I love eating it with rice or just going keto and eating it as is. In addition, I'll order a pound of roast pork from time to time. The roast pork has a good fat to meat ratio, but recently I've been asking for a leaner cut. New year, new me! The only drawback is that the roast pork can be overly salted on occasion. I wish it wasn't as over seasoned and this roast pork would be perfect. Beyond the Chinese BBQ, they also have a large menu of items. I've had their beef chow fun and house special fried noodles. I've had this multiple times and it's so convenient when I'm craving comfort food. It's great to order Chinese food so close to my house.

Yelp
3 years ago I went for the first time and wasn't impressed with the quality of food, especially considering the high price they put out with. Today I gave them a second try and it was even worse! Look at the chicken in the attached photo, dry and old. On top of it, it's extremely salty!! They had us waited for half an hour for it and this was what we got?! It's a take-out so we didn't bother driving back to get the refund. Do NOT go there. It's a piece of crap. Definitely NOT genuine Cantonese food!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I was craving Chinese BBQ and noodles and was near Famous Kitchen. I haven't been there before, but always passed by when shopping at the Issaquah PCC. I walked in and was greeted immediately and seated. This place was busy with lots of Door Dash orders, which is a good sign. I ordered the roast pork soup noodles to satisfy my cravings. The meat was done well with a nice crispy skin. The noodles were nice and chewy with a great broth and 2 baby bock choy. The service was prompt and friendly, which makes it worth going back again for other dishes. This is a nice family run, Cantonese style restaurant. If you are in Issaquah and are looking for a great meal, I highly recommend this establishment!

kristine y.

Yelp
I had lunch here today and I'm sad to say that it was the worst chinese bbq I have ever had. The roast duck was gamey and too salty, the bbq spareribs were overly boney with hardly any meat. The rice was soaked with the same juice from the salty duck and not edible. The meat combo dish cost close to 20 dollars but the portion was so tiny. I really hope the owner reads this review and make adjustments.

Yelp
Very delicious- like the BBQ I used to have in Chinatown, NYC. It's more of a take out where you might want to make veggies and rice at home, but we had it at the location. It was served fast but it was very evident it was slow cooked! This is CHINESE BBQ, (Pork, Duck and chicken...) not the BBQ found elsewhere with cornbread beans and a sweet or hot brown sugar sauce or spicy rub. You will NOT be disappointed!

Yi L.

Yelp
nice service and food is beyond my though, highly recommend next to Costco,it's really easy to find the location.

Yelp
Famous Kitchen is the latest new restaurant on the Eastside serving up Chinese BBQ. The fact that I don't have to travel all the way to Chinatown when I'm craving some char sui is a win! While known (or should I say "famous") for their BBQ items, they also have a selection of noodles, rice dishes, congee, soup and a number of chef specials. Pay special attention to the small thumbs-up icons on the menu board which indicate the restaurant's recommendations. We picked up two items for dinner on a Wednesday evening. + Honey Char Siu ($11.99/lb): A full container of sliced BBQ Pork provided enough for four of us with leftovers for the next day. We appreciated how the pork retained its natural color (as opposed to the common artificial red) and a light honey glaze gave it a perfect hint of sweetness. While it seemed like they trimmed off most of the fat, we unfortunately felt that the meat was on the drier side, but still tasty overall. + Beef Chow Fun ($13.99): After the first bite, all signs pointed to a perfect chow fun - not too oily, not too salty and the noodles had a nice chew. However, the beef was rather disappointing. It was pretty tough and contained a couple pieces I couldn't even gnaw through. For being sliced so thinly, the meat should have been tender, so the texture made us question the quality of the beef. The staff was friendly and we didn't have to wait long before our food was ready. I will note though that the prices here seem higher than average compared to other Chinese restaurants or BBQ spots. For example, $29 for a whole roasted duck and $14 - $16 for fried rice is considerably steep. The next time I return, I'd like to try some of their Chef Specials which range from about $13 - $16. Looking forward to their Walnut Shrimp and Salt & Pepper Squid sooner than later!
