Sweet and Savory Waffle Sandwiches Coming to Convoy - Eater San Diego

"A popular chain of snack shops with more than 500 locations worldwide will open on Convoy Street later this year. Known as Famous Belgian Waffles in the Philippines, where it first got its start, is coming to the same Kearny Mesa complex as Common Theory Public House this fall. Founded in 2012, its first foray into the U.S. was a since-shuttered mall kiosk inside Westfield North County in Escondido. Local franchise owner Ed Paris says he’s hoping to open several more locations around San Diego, including in the South Bay and Mira Mesa. Famous Waffle Sandwich will make its waffles fresh to order. The handheld snacks come with a variety of fillings, from chocolate and hazelnut, strawberry and cream cheese, and s’mores on the sweet side to savory versions like tuna, ham and cheese, and fried chicken. The menu will also include waffle ice cream sandwiches as well as iced coffee and fruit slushies." - Candice Woo

This place is a bit hard to find as it's tucked away in a small shopping center with minimal parking, but the it's definitely worth the treasure hunt. I got here and was immediately greeted with a smile and welcome greeting. Since I didn't eat breakfast, I informed the young lady that I wanted something filling. She recommended the chicken and waffle, which I ended up getting. I also got another waffle with the crunchy cookie butter spread... and I must say, that spread on a waffle with syrup was a sweet combination.

The moment you walk in you could smell the fresh waffles and bacon! Ed, the gentleman who took our order, was really helpful with suggestions. He also went the extra mile offering cups of water and an extra chair when we decided to sit down and eat. Now to the waffles, we got the chicken and waffles, pizza and bacon, egg & cheese. Very tasty waffles on it's own. But each different flavor was unique and delicious! Next time we'll try the sweet stuff! Thank you for the very friendly hospitality!

I had the chicken and waffles with bacon as well as the mango and cream cheese. I also had the mango slushy. I added some hot sauce to the chicken and waffles. The chicken and waffles was a perfect balance of sweet, savory and spicy! The mango and cream cheese was such a delectable treat. It wasn't overly sweet and packed full of flavor. The mango slushy was surprisingly creamy for a slushy and very tasty! Can't wait to go back and try more!!!!

The best waffles I've ever eaten. All the ingredients are equally put so the whole waffle tastes grate, not just part of it. I recommend the Chicken bacon waffle - my favorite! Stuff is very helpful and kind - great team!

The chicken and waffle sandwich was not fancy, but really tasty. Comes with bacon and maple syrup and I added hot sauce. The waffles are not too thick making it just the right chicken to waffle ratio. Yum.

Drew and Alta were amazing helpers. They made my waffle so yummy and crispy! I recommend you to bring your whole family and get a waffle for everyone. You will not regret it. I got caramel apple pie cream cheese! To die for!! ❤️

Drew has such amazing customer service! I appreciate every time he is there. He gave me many suggestions and I ended up getting a perfect combo (which is a waffle and a drink)! My waffle was so crispy and delicious! I will come back soon!

First things first: This place's high average rating is no surprise! Food: We had the chicken-bacon waffle + sausage-egg-cheese waffle + cookie butter-strawberry waffle ... all of which were delicious. Service: Even though they were about to clean up / close, they welcomed us in and even arranged tables for us. The lady who made the waffles was so sweet too! 🥺 Verdict: Definitely coming back for more 😀
