New Restaurant Openings in Seattle for 2021 | Eater Seattle

"Opened in Kirkland’s Houghton neighborhood, Fan Tang Cafe emphasizes Hunan-influenced family recipes—spicy shrimp, ginger chicken, pork belly—sourcing local proteins like Snake River Kurobuta pork and Painted Hill beef, and is open for takeout, delivery, and limited dine-in." - Gabe Guarente

Authentic Chinese Hunan flavor. Consistent. I’ve been coming since last year when I learnt about this place. The service is mostly self-serve except serving food, so it’s not much different from a normal restaurant where the only extra service is getting water.

It’s an almost self serving restaurant that you sign in at a terminal to order and pay. You also serve your own utensils and extra sharing bowls and plates at the station. It’s making sense to collect tips because the servers will bring your order and clean after you are done. The ambiance is pleasant and elegantly designed and very spacious. Only complaint is you have no option to control how spicy your food would be.

They make pretty good Hunan cuisine noodles. Good portion, the amount of meat was very generous. Our favourite was the pork strip noodles. I didn't end up taking a photo, that one is not spicy. There's a serve station for cutlery and vinegar etc, very convenient. We all got full from the amount of the food we ordered. Recommend!

Pork (9/10) and spicy beef noodle soup (9/10) were both amazing. Noodles were very tender and fresh. Flavours very authentic. Pork flavour itself tasted like 鸭脖王 flavours!!

First time visiting yesterday, and I had a great experience! The overall vibe of the restaurant is pretty chill. It’s semi self-serve—you place your order through their system, grab your own utensils, and they bring the food to your table. Once you’re done, the staff takes care of cleaning up, which is a nice touch. I tried one of the noodle dishes, and the broth was really flavorful—rich, but not too salty or bland like some other places I’ve been to. The food was solid overall and came out pretty quickly. Definitely a good spot to grab a quick lunch or satisfy a noodle craving. Would come back!🫶🏻

The 12 Spice Rice Noodle soup was such a delight that we have returned 3 times in the last couple of weeks just for that! It’s the perfect winter soup. The Thai Pepper beef was spicy and delicious. The Mei Cai was nice, I’d like to try it again but preferred the Thai chili beef better head to head. The pork and pickled green bean soup was tasty too. The staff was nice but due to the kiosk ordering I didn’t really interact with them too much. While I can’t speak to the authenticity, I have been told by people who can that they enjoy it!

The food here is below average. Reminds me of airport food. We ordered and bunch and the only thing I found good was the chicken fried rice. The string beans were undercooked. The braised pork rice bowl had cold cooked veggies and raw salad mixed together. This is a self serve restaurant like the type at a food court but they will clean up the table. Annoyingly, there were no spoons, only forks, chopsticks, and soup spoons which made eating my fried rice more of a chore than necessary.

Terrible service. There is no sign of “seat you yourself” or any kind so I patiently waited at the door for several minutes. The waitress saw me but ignored me, I had to ask her if I may have a seat for dine in. She then gave me a sarcastic look like I should have known I can sit down rather than stand in the lobby like a fool. and when I asked them for to go boxes. The same waitress refused to give me a regular size box for my noodle and soup. She said they don’t have it, they just ordered but has not arrived yet. So My only choice is the flimsy small boxes made from paper. However In the meantime I saw cook using the plastic regular one for packing other’s order behind the counter. I pointed at the stack of plastic boxes and asked for it again. This waitress then reluctantly gave me one after long hesitation. I have no idea why this restaurant hire an employee like this, and I don’t understand why I need to fight for a single togo box which is honestly the only option for packing noodle with soup. The paper one will just be soaked in and broken in no time… Literally the worst dining experience ever in Seattle.
