How many times have you thought, "Man, I wish I could just have this alcohol delivered to my door," but are met with either A) you are outside of the delivery range, or B) no stores near you that deliver alcohol at all, so you are either A) forced to drive to get your poison or B) so bummed that you have no motivation to get any drinks at all so you just watch more episodes of the Office? Okay, maybe it's just me.
But to be fair, I live in an area of LA where you have to drive to get to literally ANYTHING you want, so delivery is definitely a luxury that I rhetorically thank the powers that be for every November. When I saw that Fancy Free Liquor (FFL) was offering just $5 delivery for anywhere in LA, I was hooked (thanks to our CM, Megan, for the ad)!
I hopped on their website and saw they are offering cocktail kits, spirits, beer, and all types of wine, all of which can be delivered. I also saw that delivery is free for orders of $50 or more, so of course I immediately loaded up my cart with $56 worth of items. You can either choose to pick up at the store or have it delivered the next day (though they are closed on Mondays).
I'm regularly on the lookout for wine shops that sell natural wine, so I was super excited to see that a lot of their wine options that can be ordered online (and probably bought in store) are natural. For $56 I got a natural cider, a natural cava, a natural rose, a natural wine spritzer, and a bag of chips with three sample size dips (guacamole, tomatillo salsa, and Pico de Gallo). For orders of $50 or more you can also add (5 pairs of) latex gloves to your order for free, which I took advantage of because I can't find any in stores.
I ordered around 8:30 last night and got it delivered today around 2pm. The delivery guy was masked and friendly, and he stepped back after setting the bags down on our door mat.
Although I wasn't planning to drink the wine right away, everything was still sorta cold so I could have if I wanted to! I decided to open the wine spritzer to have with the chips and dip.
I'm halfway through the chips, dip, and spritzer as I write this review, so I felt it was time to give my feedback...
The spritzer is great and met my expectations.
The first 1/4 of the chips tasted fresh and well-made, but the second 1/4 were (and I fear the rest may be) stale. Could be a bad day or because of the pandemic, but based on this I would buy my own chips in the future.
I also thought both the tomatillo salsa and the guac were too sour, but at least I will finish the guac. The tomatillo salsa didn't have a good flavor in addition to being too sour, so if my housemates don't want it I will probably end up throwing it away. I have to give a shout out to their Pico de Gallo, though, which is BOMB! It's actually the best Pico de Gallo I think I've ever had, but honestly I don't go out searching for the best Pico de Gallo so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. I definitely haven't seen orange peppers used in other pico de Gallo I've had, and it adds a nice flavor.
I will 100% order from FFL again, probably as soon as I go through the wines I already ordered...so...maybe next week.
