The 10 Best Restaurants Near Denali National Park, Alaska - Eater

"The name may be an homage to Fannie Quigley, a famous prospector and trapper who came to Alaska during the gold-rush era, but the dishes you’ll find at this restaurant within the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge are far from camp food. Expect entrees like lime chipotle-crusted Alaska rockfish served with a crispy corn cake and Salisbury steak made with bison and beef." - Bailey Berg

The food was delicious. The pork was extremely tender. Really good flavor! It was not like I had before. Both of my kids said what they had was very good also. We all had the Lava cake with Huckleberry ice cream. Delicious. Our server paid way more attention to the table that came in after us. We had to catch him for a drink refill. He got several for them. He got their dessert orders and still ignored us. We caught him to get a dessert, and they were done and leaving before we even got ours. We had to get to an excursion, and prompt service would have been great.

This buffet was truly a feast of delectable items, with something for everyone. The service was friendly and efficient. We could give more stars if we liked the way that some of what we chose to eat was cooked better. Fruit was grapes (a little sour), oranges, apples, and I was thankful for the bananas, which were not over ripe & which we like. Oatmeal, biscuits and gravy, and scrambled eggs were available. We did not eat the oatmeal, but the biscuits were dry and needed the gravy which was good. The scrambled eggs were over cooked and the last in the pan. Bacon and pork sausage were good, and we did not try the caribou sausage. Pancakes looked good, and several syrups and toppings were offered. Three types of cereal were offered near the plain yogurt with cut up melons. At least two types of bread were available for toasting, and we liked the sourdough bread. The place is very nice and we liked the decor. If we try it for dinner, I’ll edit this review or add another.

The Denali Princess Lodge is well spread out but Wow ❣️ we ate here at Fannie Q's Saloon the second night of our Denali Alaska tour. Wow everything was phenomenal from the hostess, the drinks, and the food. Mom and I split the ribeye sandwich and the salmon burger. Both were amazing tasting hot and fresh ❣️ We really enjoyed the gentleman playing the old up right piano. And look up at all the racks hanging from the ceiling what a great night of laughter and jokes with friends and family. Don't forget to read about Fanny Q a very interesting woman ❣️

This is a resturant at the Denali lodge run by princess. It was my least favorate meal on our vacation in Alaska. The food was mediocre, the service was the same. It felt as if it could be wrong, it happened at this place. The best part of this resturant was the bar service area and the fire pits outside. no complaints with that. My biggest issue was with the meal. I ordered fish and chips which were just ok, the bigest challenge is you want somthing nice as a dipping sauce for it. The only options were Ketchup or Lemon aioli. Nothing else. I asked the waiter several times to ask the chef but nothing. the tater tots were good as an app with all the toppings on them but sucked with the meal as a side. Sorry to sad to take photos. Nice piano playing in the backround from 7 till 9.

Late Post Aug 23’ Fanny Quigley was an American pioneer, prospector and cook during the Klondike Gold Rush. She lived in the wilderness of what is now Denali National Park and Preserve. The restaurant was ordinary, they just added a name! We arrived during prime time, had to sit on high chairs at the bar but all worked out since we didn’t have to wait long. The menu could’ve been more eclectic but was very American traditional; cheesesteak sando, friend chicken sando, cobb salad of course what’s Alaska without fresh fish! There is a full bar and entertainment which was finishing up when we got there. They do have outdoor firepit but it was gas, you can smell it which gave me a minor headache. The service was good, food mediocre, interior nicely decorated, entertainment fun for the last 5 mins. I only wish the food was traditional – sourdough, beans, pierogi with the Russian migration. Etc etc…

The Fannie Q Burger was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing.... The fries were also very good... The Baked Alaska Cocktail tasted balanced, good and did the trick... Definitely a great lil gem in the Princess Wilderness Lodge ...

Google
Fannie Q's is one of the "on resort" restaurants at the Princess Lodge. On the day we went, the restaurant was not filled to capacity and we could get a table right away. The ambience is "Western saloon", and a live singer / pianist was playing. I got the fried chicken sandwich which was alright. I wouldn't say the flavor was special, just average.

Loved the decor in this restaurant. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet, the hash brown potatoes were outstanding. Clean place with easy accessibility. Friendly staff.

Yelp
Gave us 200 tater tots for free. They filled two to-go boxes in total. I liked the piano.

Yelp
A good option if you're staying at the Princess/Holland lodge! While staying at the lodge, I ate one dinner meal and all my breakfast meals here. For additional context, I had the meal plan offered by the lodge so my dinner included a drink, appetizer, entree, and desert. Their breakfast is a buffer so everything is included. For dinner, my party had the calamari appetizer, the Cobb salad, the fish and chips, the burger, and the salmon sandwich. The fish and chips were really good and came with A LOT of tater tots. The burger was good, nothing amazing, and so was the salmon sandwich. I'd say if you're coming here, get the fish and chips. The servers were all very kind and if you have the meal plan, don't worry, they all know what it is and it's an easy process to use. For dinner, there was usually always a wait. For breakfast, they had a pretty good spread that included yogurt and fruit, pancakes, bacon, sausage, fruit toppings, toast, oatmeal, biscuits and gravy, two types of eggs, and assorted pastries. The food was pretty average, didn't hate it didn't absolutely love it, but it did the job. I only wish that they could switch up their breakfast offerings everyday but I totally understand why they just have that fixed menu. If you like tea, I'd recommend trying one of their many Alaskan tea flavors! The inside is pretty spacious but note that about 1/3 of the inside gets taken up by the buffet during breakfast. I never experienced a wait in the mornings but I also didn't really eat at peak hours. The staff was very friendly and even remembered us each morning!

Yelp
Pretty much Alaska style log cabin type place. Drinks by fireplace 1 evening, dinner the next. Shared jalapeno dip appetizer. Went with fish & chips & salmon sandwich. Sides were green beans and tater tots. Food was good as was service.

Yelp
Cool place amidst the shops of the Denali area. There was a piano man there as we were eating which made it that much more fun. Food was good.

Judy J.

Yelp
The food was great!!! Our waiter Stefan was very good and friendly. The jalapeño dip was good too.

Emily S.

Yelp
Everyone enjoyed their meal and also a great spot for cocktails. If Calamari is your thing, then it's an absolute must. Rather than rings , they were huge slices (the size of mozzarella sticks!) Thick and very tender. We also shared the haddock meal, which was nice, but for me personally, not worth the price. For drinks, A few of us enjoyed very nice cocktails and one had the house berry lemonade which packed a very tart punch but was delicious for sipping. A bit of a wait for 5 around dinner, but they give you a buzzer that works across the property, which was great as we could browse the shops and go back to our rooms to freshen up. The server was friendly and well trained. She hit all the "buzzwords" when describing the food, but she came across as knowledgeable and not rehearsed - we enjoyed the atmosphere as well.

Katarina C.

Yelp
We enjoyed our food and our service! Chicken sandwich: 100/10 Tatchos: 8/10 Cobb salad: 10/10 Veggie bowl: 10/10 Pro tip: order the root beer and ask if they can make a root beer float. It was delicious!

Yelp
Great Saloon, Halibut is amazing, the pork shoulder is way too salty almost couldn't eat it
google avatar

Fumika T.

Yelp
A cute restaurant on the first level of princess lodges! The entry way is decorated with flowers and animal statues. Although the restaurant was totally full, we were served quickly. The menu had lots of healthy options including a veggie bowl, such a great source of fiber we were in desperate need of. The performer sang classic covers while playing piano, further upping the aura.

Cheryl C.

Yelp
The scratch made chicken sandwich was the best I've had in my 54+ years! Good job, Fanny Q's! Your restaurant represents the Princess brand very well, much more than any we found at the other Princess lodges. We also enjoyed the piano vibe.
google avatar

Ken S.

Yelp
Good experience. The Chuli beer was good. The service was good. The chicken sandwich was good. The fries were GREAT! The only thing I'd ding them on is the telling of Mrs. Quigley's story in terms of how she did this and that in "Kantishna", a name she would not recognize, and not "Eureka", as she knew it her whole life.

Yelp
This is a princess restaurant. We ate here for breakfast and lunch. I'll start with the good: service was excellent, staff are well trained and attentive. Lunch we had tomato soup and fish and chips and enjoyed both. Breakfast was another story, the building was freezing, the outside porch had heaters on but they really needed them inside too. The buffet food was all cold and bad... eggs were like hard "cafeteria food" eggs and cold, pancakes may have been good fresh but were cold, bacon was hard (not crispy, just hard), cheesy potatoes were the only breakfast food I enjoyed, coffee was better than on a princess cruise (but that's a low bar), the main room aside from being cold was crowded and you couldn't walk without bumping into hustling staff or other guests. There was no live music either visit. Ambience is overall meh. Bottom line: if you have the option to go elsewhere... you should. Lunch much better than breakfast. Saving grace was the staff.

Yelp
During our stay in Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge, we had our meals several times here, we enjoyed it that much. The meals consisted of one late lunch, one late dinner, and one breakfast buffet. Their tomato soup was velvety and hit the spot after rafting down the river. The fish and chips were thick with a light batter. Their breakfast buffet had a lot of options available. I was also introduced to Denali Brewing's Wild Blueberry Cream Soda. I love cream soda, and this one was absolutely fabulous.

Yelp
This was one of the few restaurants in the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge...and even for a late lunch, there was quite a waitlist. Majority of the tables were open...yet no servers assigned to them. So again, another case of being understaffed! The looooong (40-45 minutes?) wait aside, the restaurant itself was quite nice...very rustic, of course...and lofty, with high ceilings. I wasn't too thrilled with the short, basic menu either...I mean, VERY few choices for lunch. Luckily, however, the Crab Sandwich I ordered was really, really good...and so were the Fries. Also, the waitress was really good...very friendly, courteous and attentive. If only their menu was a bit more extensive and/or enticing, I'd be happy to up to 4 stars, but I wasn't a huge fan of the basic menu (and the long wait). Still, despite the long wait and the short menu, we both enjoyed our meals here.
google avatar

Carrie S.

Yelp
Service gets the stars. Food was really not good. Cheesesteak sandwich was broken up hamburger, no peppers or onions as advertised. No flavor. Dry. Burger was basic, premade frozen patty. Everything seemed like it came straight from a Cisco box. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
Samantha & Brooke, 10 STARS, wild women of the Last Frontier. Don't let their sweet smiles fool you....you better do what they say. Honestly they provided the best service EVER as these ladies rock Fannie Quigley's Saloon in true Alaskan style and should sell tickets for the ENTERTAINMENT value alone.

Bobbie M.

Yelp
The evening was simply terrible. The kitchen team sent out my wife's fish & chips, but our appetizer of calamari never came out. Her fish coating was over cooked and greasy. Once the coating was removed the fish was good along with the lemon aioli. The fries were just room temp. I changed my order within two minutes of ordering, but it was taking a while after my wife's meal arrived. I simply cancelled the order out of frustration. The only reason I didn't offer a rating of 1 was due to the manager coming over and taking care of the bill. Very nice, but I never wanted a free meal for one... Again he was a really great guy. Wish then them the best

Nancie D.

Yelp
Service was great for only being open 1 day. Everyone was pleased with their food. I had the Philly and it was really good. They had a singing piano player who was fun. We had to stay at the chalet next door as this locations lodge wasn't opened yet.

Richard C.

Yelp
Food was okay. Fish and chips were cooked but a bit soggy. The cheesesteak sandwich could have used some peppers and onions. Service appears to be hit and miss. If you are going to eat here take a look around for a server who acts like they want to be there and is checking back with tables and delivering plates and request their section. Unfortunately our server gave the impression that she didn't want to be there and it affected our dinner. We ordered their Tachos (tater tot nachos) but they never arrived. Our food was delivered by a bus boy. While I appreciate getting the food out hot. It would have been nice to get a check back. The service is really making me question what type of service we are going to get on board. As stated below. Go sit in the bar and enjoy the piano player.
google avatar

Ronnie C.

Yelp
Best meal in Denali. Great ambience. Piano player was excellent, so was the service.

Dusting P.

Yelp
The food is ok, the soups are good. The environment is noisy as typical Vietnamese restaurant. They also have the fast food order. Close by the airport which is convenient for those who wants to grab the bite before flight out
google avatar

Wendy F.

Yelp
Arrived at Denali as one of the stops on the land part of a cruise package. We had the tater tot nachos. They were ok, but could have used more cheese and bacon. We asked for sour cream which made them better. One thing I noticed was there were way too many red onions. We also ordered a salad which was just ok. There was live music - man playing the piano and taking requested. This was super fun. The waitress was nice and efficient. We had a large group and she handled everything well.

Lisa S.

Yelp
This place is awesome. You might expect it to be mediocre, overpriced, and unpleasant. I did. But how wrong I was. The food first off is excellent. We 3 shared 2 orders of fish and chips, 2 salads, 2 desserts, and really enjoyed our meal. Service was warm, sincere, and efficient. Max the piano player is outstanding. He has a terrific voice, mad piano skills, and an impressive repertoire of songs. He really adds a festive atmosphere. Prices are completely reasonable. The salads were interesting and delicious. The glacier bark and rhubarb crisp desserts are fabulous. FannyQ's- you guys are knocking it out of the (national) park!!! Also, the margarita was amazing.

Donna M.

Yelp
We got there for breakfast at 8:45. The food in the warming dishes was sparse and cold. The waitress said that was because they were closing breakfast at 9:00. If this were true we should have been told this when we were seated. After we ate some cold eggs and potatoes I went to the rest room only to find all the trays filled up and the employees helping themselves. A ridiculous way to treat customers. Never again and I will tell others not to go there.

Rena S.

Yelp
The food was fabulous! There were 6 of us so we tried several different appetizers and entrees and all were equally good. Service was a bit over the top. I know it sounds strange but almost too attentive.
google avatar

Tony M.

Yelp
The ambience here is really nice. Good music playing. Full bar and lots of Alaskan local spirits. We had totchos, the Fannie Q burger and the bear paw pie. All was delicious. Our server Dianca was excellent.

Mark F.

Yelp
This restaurant is located at the Denali Princess Lodge property. My wife and I had the fish and chips. It was Alaskan cod that was cooked too perfection. Hot fries. Excellent tartar sauce. Great service. We had the bear paw pie for dessert. Outstanding. They also have my favorite beer in Alaska, Denali Brewing Chuli Stout. We would definitely go back.
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast. After we were seated, they told us they only had a buffet breakfast available at $21 pp. Welp. Well, we're already seated; what do we do now. So we got it. It was pricey and average. It was convenient and relatively fast.
google avatar

Karen J.

Yelp
Breakfast Buffet is a standard Princess Breakfast Buffet I really like the Princess Breakfast Buffets. Considering that a sandwich at the main lodge is over $15, getting a breakfast buffet is the way to go! We especially enjoyed the reindeer sausage and the thick bacon. I love the fresh fruit!
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
Wow, great little Bar & Grill (Saloon)! I love the atmosphere of this place, live piano player singing modern songs with a twist and the decor takes you back to the gold rush days. The staff was great especially our server Marisa!!! She really took care of us and made us feel comfortable and welcome. The wife and I both ordered a drink from the bar as we looked over the menu deciding want we wanted as everything looked good. I had the Whittier Mary which was a spin on the Bloody Mary and pretty damn tasty. The wife had one of their lemonade cocktails and she really enjoyed it as well. We both ordered the Bison Salisbury steak which was awesome!!!! Although the food, service and ambiance was great, it was pretty pricey, but i guess that is expected at a resort Bottom line, if you're looking for great food, drink and atmosphere, this is definitely a great place, plus ya don't have to make reservations and the offer Military Discount

Cheryl F.

Yelp
Food was okay...I had a Cobb salad...so it's hard to say what the quality of their cooked meals are. The service was good. Our waiter was very sweet and accommodating. The ambiance was nice but super loud! It was very hard to carry on a conversation.

Ray W.

Yelp
We just arrived for our three week adventure, and we had lunch at Fannie Q's Saloon. We both ordered fish and chips. The fish was not cooked enough, cold in the center, and very low quality fish, US foods must be their supplier. Our server was awesome and she really wanted to help us out. This was their opening day for the season, and they could not serve us tea, coffee or soup due to equipment problems. We were given the option to order a replacement meal, so we both ordered the hamburgers medium. The burgers showed up burned so much it would be like eating a hockey puck! So we had our French fries. Our server asked us how our burgers were, we told her that they were charred and way over cooked. The poor girl was really having a hard time with all of this. We felt really bad for her, and told her it was not her fault. As we were paying the $42.00 bill, a young manager came to our table and asked us how our meal was, we told him it was a train wreck, and filled him in to our challenge. He just blew it off and acted as if we were happy. I was shocked that he responded so poorly and told us it was their first day open. I hate posting bad reviews, it must have been a real challenge for their team on day one. We will not go back due to the food quality, and the fact that they did nothing to remedy the situation. Hopefully they will work through their speed bumps.
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
BIGGEST BREAKFAST RIP-OFF IN DENALI! The breakfast buffet was terrible at $19! I want to be clear this is not a critique of the staff, they seemed friendly and normal. The food was bad and the coffee as thick as mud. I mean how can you mess up fruit and yogurt, well they both tasted like soap, that's how! The bananas had seen better days a week ago. The eggs were hotel eggs from a bag and the cheesy potatoes resembled mush or maybe they were mislabeled cheesy grits!!! They also had reindeer sausage links that were way too salty, but to be fair this is the only time I've ever had the chance to eat such a delicacy. For the price I would expect more than two star hotel quality food....

Dick E.

Yelp
Great good with an big selection, nice beer & bar selection. The hostess did a great job setting up our table of 10. Thank you. Amber, our waitress did an excellent job for our party of 10 traveling together. We both had the (cod) fish & chips - more than plenty. Great atmosphere.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
I really liked this restaurant. Food and service was excellent. I am from Texas. Came here on vacation and I will definitely come back if I come to Alaska again. ALSO ALI WAS WONDERFUL. He deserves a pat on the back! Good job ALI!
google avatar

BOB P.

Yelp
Great service and good food. Our party of eight stopped in for lunch. Service from our waiter was excellent. We are a noisy group and often overwhelm our wait staff with requests and special orders. Not so here. Ryan, our waiter, patiently answered our questions about the way several dishes were prepared and made, what would later be shown to be, excellent suggestions for items to order. The food was well prepared and arrived at our table in a timely manner. At this point in our Alaskan vacation, easily our best service in a restaurant!

Anira Z.

Yelp
The service was good, the decor is nice and cozy, and the food was ok. Dessert options were pretty good.

HD R.

Yelp
Ordered the Fish and Chips and they were way overcooked. I sent them back and they came back worse - totally inedible. Skip this placec for food. Beer may be ok.
google avatar

Zoe D.

Yelp
Beautiful place in a beautiful location! Food was great , took a little long to make but was worth waiting. Walk around the mini neighborhood while there, gardens and shops are great. Looking forward to coming back here!

Yelp
We had an unexpected excellent meal with phenomenal service! We arrived from our lodge from Princess cruise and were looking to grab dinner after settling into our rooms. Since we arrived with a number of other guests with the same plan the "Princess Lodge" restaurants were filling up quickly. We decided on Fanny Q's as their are very limited options off the property and the menu looked looked good. We were given a beeper with a projected half and hour wait, this allowed us to walk the property and go to a few shops as we waited for our talks vs. standing in line. We received our beep and quickly headed back and were seated. Our server, Simone greeted us and answered our questions on appetizers and entrees. She gave us her favorites and why she liked them. The Seafood Bucatini she said was a large serving and when asked if it was shareable, she enthusiastically replied yes, and that she would spilt the dish for us. Our friends decided to share the braised pork shoulder which would be spilt as well. We decided to order appetizers as well and shared the calamari and jalapeño crab dip. The calamari was very tender and and crab dip was zesty with a good amount of crab. Simone having done a great job guiding so far tempted us with the Blueberry Bear Claw (she recommended adding vanilla ice cream)and a German Chocolate Sundae. We went for it and again were thrilled with two decadent deserts (so hard to share with my wife...). Food 4.5-5 Large shareable portions that were freshly prepared and very good! Service 5 Simone was awesome! The place was super busy and she had everything covered, spending time with us and knowing her menu. Atmosphere 4 Rustic and comfortable! Price 3-4.5 Fanny's is on the expensive side but we managed this by sharing and had plenty of food. All the food we ordered was shareable which kept our dinner in the $$ range for Yelp. This is a great value for what we had! Service was outstanding as well! Overall (OA) 4.5 I would order the same dinner if I ever return.
google avatar

Riley H.

Yelp
One of the best places to eat in Denali. Despite the high prices of food around the area, Fannie Q's was reasonably priced and definitely worth the money. Our server, Sam, was delightful. He recommended certain items like the Blueberry Cream Soda and it was delicious. I had the Crab Cake meal and was pleasantly surprised at the size of the portions. Very pleased overall.
google avatar

Nikki S.

Yelp
Went to Fannies for dinner. Four different meals, two great, one ok and one good but not enough seafood. The pork and the rock fish were great. The Salisbury steak was just ok. Watery gravy, was expecting a rich brown gravy. The blueberry pie was a disappointment. Like a fried pie, flat but baked, too doughy. Also returned for their breakfast buffet. Like any buffet not hot enough for most dishes. The oatmeal was good and hot. Biscuits cool with watery but tasty gravy. Very good bacon and reindeer sausage. Cold cheese potatoes. Did not eat the eggs but they looked cooked well.

Sarah T.

Yelp
Show up after a tour and was informed that there was 1 whole waiter for the whole restaurant. How do you bring in hundreds of people on a train and have one waiter on the property at your restaurant?
google avatar

Maike M.

Yelp
Wow! What an experience! The food here was delicious! We started off with the crab cakes, by recommendation of Bojanna. They didnt disappoint! Very satisfying! I chose to enjoy the pork shoulder for my entree and it was very savory and delicious! Yum! You can't beat the food or wonderful service here! Request Bojanna as your server! You won't regret her fabulous suggestions or welcoming smile!

Terra T.

Yelp
Its a beautiful location but it's basically a burger joint. And no gf options. No sups for the fries or onion rings. I ordered a Long Island iced tea and it was no booze and all sweet and sour. With stuff floating in it. The dt coke was flat. I live in Denali and I really don't think I will go back nor suggest this location.

Yelp
I had such a good lunch experience here! Delicious food, great outdoors seating ambience, good service, and not too expensive considering the area. We had such a great time and I was set to give it a 5 star rating! And then... Two hours later... All 3 of us had diarrhea... And no, we didn't eat anything else that day. Giving it 2 stars because, if you don't mind dealing with diarrhea, this place is perfect!
