"Inside a retrofitted old house, Fanny’s is the epitome of Nashville , a used and new instrument emporium where you can sit down and jam (solo or with other musicians) and peruse great vintage finds. Owned by women, the shop is a place where anyone can—and should, and does—feel welcome. It's filled with instruments that women would feel comfortable playing, and it's staffed by folks who who understand some of the ergonomic issues facing female musicians. The vibe is fun, warm, and high-energy." - Kristin Luna, Margaret Littman

My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful Saturday afternoon at Fanny’s. The staff is so kind, friendly, and supportive. The musical instrument selection is incredible and robust. My boyfriend asked to use a pedal and Becca was so kind to set it up for him and provide appropriate cables. We felt welcomed and encouraged and will be back again soon. Great vibes all around.

Google
Passing through Nashville on a business trip, and had an afternoon to go see some great guitars. I've been to Gruhn's a couple of times, so I wanted to see the competition, and Fanny's didn't let me down. Its much smaller, but they have some really beautiful instruments. My favorite was a very rare Martin. It was small, but had a beautiful, booming tone. I cant believe so much sound can come out of such a small guitar. Unfortunately, I'll need to win the lottery to afford it, but when that day comes, I'll be back for it. Ellen and Charlie were working the day I came in, and both were friendly and knowledgable, and patiently listened to a few of my old stories. If you are in Nashville, and seriously considering spending money on a good guitar, don't make your final decision until you stop in to Fanny's to see what they have.

Google
Interesting music store with a great vibe. The first thing they said whenever me and my son walked in was "play whatever you like!" Just the way of music store should be.

Google
Such a gorgeous music shop celebrating women in music in its every nook and cranny🩵. Spent a part of my afternoon checking out the shop. They have beautiful selection of acoustic as well as electric guitars, banjos, ukuleles, basses and a small but helpful workable selection of amps and accessories. There is also a room for your vintage clothing needs and some vintage accessories as well. The staff are friendly and helpful. Really love that East Nashville has a space like Fanny’s. Brought home some fun items from this store back to Chicago. Hope to see you all again soon. 🩵

Google
Love this shop! You never know what you'll find there. We got a beautiful Takamine F360 from 1976 there yesterday. They also had a D28 Martin next to it to compare. It is an exact copy of the Martin. Incredible! They have a great website and customer service too. Thanks y'all!

Google
Amazing staff. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Very patient with answering questions and friendly. Guitar selection is excellent. They had some super cool vintage pieces from Martin, Gibson and many many other brands. Pricing was very reasonable. All around a fantastic shop and I will definitely be back. There is also a hot dog stand next store which was fun.

Google
Pam is the best. I’ve bought some of my favorite guits from this spot! Always a good hang and a great selection of funky instruments. Super reasonable too! Lots of love and respect

Google
Support your local small business!!! Great selection of guitars, new and vintage. Some uncommon finds, too. You ain't gonna find these guitars on Amazon!

Yelp
I saw a cool vintage acoustic guitar on Fanny's website, and bought it over the phone. It's a 1964 Harmony made from now-rare Honduran mahogany and Brazilian rosewood, beautifully restored to better than new condition. A unique instrument, I jumped on it at this price, and it sounds amazing. It was a pleasure doing business with Fanny's House of Music over the phone, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the experience.

Yelp
Recommended by one of the top set up people in Nashville for a quick next day set up so I could make my flight - he was right. They spent the time asking me about the set up issues. They did a traditional flat picking set up and buffed out some damage to the nitrocellulose finish. Perfect job and the guitar has never sounded this good. Plus just a very cool shop with nice and interesting guitars. These folks love guitars. Thanks all including Matt who took the guitar into the shop.

Yelp
Great experience for guitar buffs. Very helpful staff in a cool neighborhood. Worth a visit

Yelp
Couldn't be happier with the service I received to help lower the action on my guitar. I'm pretty new to guitar, but the staff helped recommend some options. After getting the guitar setup modified and a string change, it almost feels like I've got a brand new guitar. It sounds great, and is so much easier to play. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Where does one begin? I can honestly say my best experience at a guitar/music shop that I've ever had is here and it may be my best business experience ever! Let's start with the fact that every human that works there is awesome. They are patient, knowledgable, encouraging and true music lovers and spur others to create. I can say I was a pain of a customer. I was back and forth and befuddled at times, visited without purchasing many times, bought and exchanged (please limit that if possible). They were beyond patient, understanding and remained positive and insisting I find the right guitar for my needs and creations. I found the right fit for me thankfully for myself and them haha. Their guitar selection is so cool and unique and with a range of cost, styles of guitars and intrigue. Please make a visit with the idea to purchase and be mesmerized by the magic they create. They sell clothes as well as instruments. I have no idea how they remained so patient and positive with me, I was irritated with myself. They should sell a guide to their self care routines because they are special people and are doing it right.

Yelp
I brought my acoustic 12-string in for service, and was blown away by this little music shop. The staff is so friendly and the space is cozy and full of amazing instruments. This is not a generic blockbuster guitar center type place. This is a well-curated neighborhood store that has killer electric and acoustic gear for music lovers at any price point. Support small and local businesses. Shop Fanny's.

Yelp
Excellent Music Store with a great selection of guitars , Located in East Nashville in a cute old House . I was happy to finally get a chance to stop by . The staff was excellent and told me to play whatever I wanted . I tried a few nice Electrics and a few very nice Acoustic Guitars They had a few Strats , Teles , and some really cool vintage Catalog guitars like Kay , Sears , Harmony , etc I should have brought some money with me :) I'll be back to buy something :)

Yelp
I've always passed by and wanted to stop and check out the retail/vintage items they had. Was in the neighborhood today with some time to kill so I decided today was the day. The clothing selection was not really my style but they have tons of cute accessories and adorable earrings.. however, my experience shopping there was terrible. I'm pretty heavily tattooed with blue hair and definitely an alternative style and my friend I was with is African American. Not sure what it was that bothered her, but (I'm assuming manager/owner) stood dead still and watched us shop the entire time until we made it to check out and then she retreated to the back. It was super uncomfortable. The retail person was, on the other hand, VERY friendly and nice to communicate with. I wouldn't recommend going here if you don't look like a basic ass person because our type definitely isn't welcome there unfortunately.

Hannah A.

Yelp
pretentious and somewhat rude staff. some of the clothes were overpriced although they were very cute. this is definitely the kind of place that gives east nashvillians a bad rap of having a "cooler than thou" attitude.

Yelp
Saturday was a bittersweet day at Fanny's House of Music. Diamond Star Halo Vintage closed its doors due to her other business ventures blowing up. HOWEVER, Star Vintage and another great vendor will be taking its place. The good news is I bought a sweet sequin party shirt for $4.60, a silk scarf for $1.30, a lame (pronounced la-may, not lame) gold half shirt for $2 and a shiny green button up. I made out like a bandit! If you can't find what you are looking for inside 3-4 times a year they will hold sales outside with different vendors from around town. I've purchased quite a few great items! Besides the clothing, they sell guitars and other great musical instruments, rent out practice spaces and offer lessons. It's your one stop music shop. The owner and staff are always super friendly and incredibly helpful. Finally, yes there is more, they now have I Dream of Weenie parked in their back yard. SCORE!

Phillip J.

Yelp
Talked with someone on the phone, they tried their best to help. I was looking for a specific set of guitar machine heads, even though I knew that it was not a usual set of parts that music stores carry. I was happy with the time and effort she have to try to help, even though they didn't carry the tuners. I will go there just in their customer service, alone.

Cate H.

Yelp
Friendly staff! The clothes fill one room in this wonderful music shop. There are alot of items floor to ceiling so take your time looking! Cool jackets, fun dresses, unusual knickknacks and retro accessories. Love vintage? Stop by for a browse!

Tara B.

Yelp
I wanted to find a starter guitar so we went here and got a great deal on a guitar that was practically new. Fanny was more interested in me getting the right guitar within my budget, and its in the cutest neighborhood!

Caitlin E.

Yelp
Always has original and unique goodies from vintage clothing to instruments. A story behind everything. Sweetest owners. They care about the creative community and preserving the beauty of historic 5 Points. Art, culture and and color. Kids can come and learn about music in their lesson rooms too!

Mary C.

Yelp
The staff was very friendly. One of the owners Pamela was very knowledgeable. And they have top notch merchandise. A must place to visit when in Nashville.

Marcia M.

Yelp
Ridiculously charming. It is literally obnoxious how authentic and wonderful Fanny's House of Music and Diamond Star Halo Vintage both are. Each time I wander into this house, I feel inspired to pick up the bass guitar that I pined for years that is now collecting dust in the corner of my living room. Why don't I put on my big girl pants already and take some lessons at Fanny's while picking up a snazzy new guitar strap? There are always disarming cool instruments for sale here as well. I am obviously a novice with musical instruments but happen to have a pedigree in fashion which is where Diamond Star Halo comes into play. Tucked inside the walls of Fanny's is fashion guru Libby Callaway's spectacularly curated collection of vintage wares. I have never left here empty-handed as it is nearly impossible to play "hard to get" with the sumptuous fabrics, beautiful baubles, or killer clutches and kicks. Some of the pieces that I have came across are just jaw-dropping. My most recent purchase is a bold teal, navy, ivory and olive green maxi dress with ethnic brocade piping around the cuff of the arms and down the collar and front of the dress. A front slit created visual interest and for a reasonable $75, I know have a rare vintage piece that I feel confidant and pretty damn fabulous in! If this piece was retailing in Chicago, NYC, or LA... it would likely double or even triple in price. DSH is small but organized and full of treasures. I would suggest stopping in here for yourself or to find a unique gift that will knock the socks off a lucky person. TIP: Be sure to check out http://diamondstarhalo.wordpress.com/ for the scoop on events, promotions, and more. I have also attended really fun flea markets and events here that always amount to nice savings and usually great music too!

James C.

Yelp
They treat customers as suspects instead of patrons. Ridiculously overpriced. Custom leather goods for outrageous prices, $75 for a drumstick holster. $100 for a paper, fret less, non electric cigar box guitar with strings so high off the board you couldn't even play it flat. Garbage! And $99 Johnson acoustic priced at $115. No respect for this place. A complete joke of a music store! Avoid avoid avoid! If you're a real musician don't waste your time or money here.

Victoria H.

Yelp
I love this place! Just went today to buy a Ukulele and the people were so kind and helpful! When I was looking they came up and asked if they could help me pick out one then told me about each one and pointed me in the direction of a beginners set. She even tuned it for me before I bought it!! Absolutely amazing, I'll definitely come back!

Anna A.

Yelp
I went in to Fanny's looking for Vintage Clothes. They carry a nice assortment of cool clothes and accessories and also some vintage stuff for kids. What a cool little place. Fanny and her crew of friends are so darn nice, it's hard not to just want pull up a chair and hang out which would probably be totally cool with them. I wasn't in the market for a guitar or anything but she had some neat stuff including a hello kitty guitar. I think this would be the kind of place that you would pick out your guitar, name her, and then go visit her while you save up for her and Fanny would be really in to it. If buying clothes or guitars is kind of religious experience, this is your place.

Aaron D.

Yelp
I used a Groupon to get lessons in guitar (acoustic and electric), piano and banjo from Leigh. The lessons were great fun and Leigh is kind and encouraging. The lessons were really just a sampler for me to figure out which instrument I might like to pursue more deeply. Word to the wise -- If you've never played guitar before and you have namby-pamby writer's hands, assume that the fingertips on your left hand will hurt and then go sort of numb if you practice a lot. They are mostly back to normal now, but it's been a couple of weeks since I turned the guitar back in. (Fanny's lets you rent guitars and other instruments by the month while you are taking lessons. This turned out to be a great idea in my case since I ultimately decided I would want to play an instrument that doesn't make me wince in agony when I try to make a chord.) Taking lessons in anything is generally great because it makes you realize that basically nothing is as easy as it looks and anyone who is even a moderately good musician (or artist or carpenter or juggler) deserves some proper respect. This life lesson has been brought to you by the letter "F" for Fanny's! :)

Yelp
I know better than to judge a book by it's cover. Hell, I judge people who judge a book by it's cover (see what I did there?). I have been driving by and parking around this place for damn near 10 years, every time thinking "obviously there is one hipster with a selection of four guitars for sale in there." I'm not usually like that, I don't know what my problem was. Because that is incorrect. I went in yesterday looking for a tambourine. I told the guy I avoided Amazon whenever I could hit up a local spot and he appreciated it. They sold me a synthetic-skin tambourine for $15, which was what similar looking instruments were running online. The guy was super cool, we had a couple of laughs, I didn't feel awkward or uncool obviously not being a Tambourine Expert. I was wrong. Fanny's and the Universe were right. Judge after you know what you're judging, if you must, but not before.

Yelp
A friendly, eclectic store with great vibe! This small store in the 5-Points neighborhood of East Nashville may not have the huge selection of the big chain stores but they make up for it in customer service. Fanny's carries a unique blend of vintage instruments and some lesser known new products. They also offer lessons, repair, and have a wing dedicated to vintage clothing! As the name implies, "Fanny's" was inspired by the all-girl rock groups of the 60's & 70's such as Fanny, the Runaways, & The Pleasure Seekers and the store features many hard-to-find albums in their record bin that pay homage to the women's movement in music. Two thumbs up for this place!

Simon H.

Yelp
This place is so rad. Really cool selection vintage guitars and clothes. Also a lot of female musician history all over the walls and throughout the shop. Staff are really friendly too. Will definitely come back next time I'm in town.

Josh M.

Yelp
Stumbled across this place walking down the road to grab a cup of coffee at Bongo Java. They weren't open yet so I decided to grab my coffee and get some work done and then Id stop back by and check it out. The lady working was nice and the selection was decent. There were a few nice piece inside. They are pretty chill and let you play whatever you want without supervision. I was good until these two French guys walked in and started killing it and I felt that was my cue to stop playing. Id give them a shot. I also believe that I saw a sign that they have lessons. Not the greatest shop in the world but if you want soemthing to impress all your hipster friends they got it here.

Julia S.

Yelp
So many cool instruments that we were encouraged to play with. The sales woman made everyone who came in feel welcome and helped me find a low g string for my ukulele. Made my day.

Oliver C.

Yelp
I like Fannys. The people were nice. Welcoming. Sometimes at instrument shops I feel like a nuisance rather than a potential patron. Not here. They have some nice guitars. Amps. Straps. Strings. Slides. Stuff. Vintage clothing for sale here too. Somewhat interesting combination but worth checking out. Fo Sho. Okay.

Tom L.

Yelp
This place has your standard fare of crappy old instruments at super high prices. None of the instruments are worth the money. I also felt super unwelcome, and was being watched the entire time. If you're actually a musician, don't waste your time here.

Bryan P.

Yelp
My favorite music shop in Nashville. Friendly people. Fantastic selection of Instruments and gear. All sorts of lessons. And an incredibly friendly and helpful staff.

Samma A.

Yelp
Guitar lessons after a Fanny's guitar buy are available. You can better your guitar or fiddle playing in one of the private lesson rooms. Voice lessons are another option. New and used guitars are the main attraction with a lone fiddle for sale. I attempted some primitive plucking of a cigar box mini guitar. Its 3 strings sounded more or less on note. A few other music makers like bongos as well as guitar accessories and some clothing are in this cool east nashville house turned music shop. It's an especially friendly place for aspiring girl pickers and singers.

HaileyTIffany M.

Yelp
I'd give this place a 5 for the vintage clothes... they are incredible! I have not bought a guitar there. The guitar shop seems nice, I haven't done any business with them, so I can't rate it. The vintage clothes here are incredible; 50's prom dresses like jewels; unusual and beautiful vintage bags; vintage dresses so beautiful you will gasp. I could go on and on, but the camisoles and tops and leather handbags and just... selection. It's so incredible. I could've stayed all night. It's silk and satin and sequins and leather and cashmere and sparkly... truly a delight! The kind of vintage shop you dream about. !!!!!!! If you want to look like a rock star, or a rock star's girlfriend, or Kate Moss.... go here. It's the coolest.

Renae M.

Yelp
So, I don't know much about music or guitars, but I do know vintage clothes...and I have to say that the selection of vintage at Fanny's is probably the best in Nashville! I am never disappointed when I stop in....dresses, boots, accessories, oh my! On my last visit, I left with a sweet floral vintage robe, a black leather and gold rings belt with rhinestones, and a way cool bright, 70's style butterfly-sleeve dress...and I spent less than $50! This place must be a stop on your next shopping adventure!

Mike R.

Yelp
I took my acoustic to Fannys today to get the action lowered. Not only were the people there extremely helpful, but the in house guitar tech David went above and beyond cleaning the guitar and smoothing over worn frets without being asked. Not only that I was in and out in about 30 minutes. I would definitely recomment this place to anyone who needs work on thier guitars. The price was more than fair and the service was beyond expectation!

Skip C.

Yelp
Good selection of vintage clothing, but truly excellent selection of guitars and other miscellaneous musical items. A real friendly, helpful man was working while we were there. We can in about 10 minutes before they closed, and he kept encouraging us to try things out, hook guitars up to amplifiers, etc. etc. We are visiting from out of town, but both said we wished we lived nearby just to visit Fanny's on the regular.

Amanda E.

Yelp
I bought my first guitar here, and they gave me a free guitar lesson with purchase. Never felt this comfortable in a music store. The ladies are always welcoming and ready to help. Have gone back for guitar strap, picks, slide, etc. I think a uke is next on the list...

A. Jesse Jiryu D.

Yelp
Had a great conversation about an antique Gene Autry kid's guitar on the wall, with the owner. A folk guitarist was noodling on a lute in one room, while a punk kid in the other room gave his life savings as down payment on the electric bass of his dreams. I bought a very natty, inimitable vintage cowboy shirt. Authentic music gear and a small, good selection of thrift clothes.

Nicole B.

Yelp
Really fun place. Great vintage guitars & clothing. Employees were all friendly & knowledgeable.

Megan K.

Yelp
strange mix of vintage clothes and instruments. definitely cool. a little pricey on the guitar end but that's what you get for Music City vintage guitars. they offer lessons, and they will let you play any of the instruments without makign a fuss!

Mylinda H.

Yelp
Loved this place on our visit from Brooklyn. Great vintage clothes at good prices. Welcoming to our young daughters as they ogled all the beautiful instruments. Wish we lived here just so they could take music lessons here!
