Fantail - Islington - Review - Islington - London - The Infatuation

"Fantail is a light, airy Islington cafe serving thick NYC-style cookies and fluffy focaccia sandwiches. We like it for an upgrade to our usual work from home setup—just know there’s a 90-minute wifi limit and you have to sit on the big, communal island if you have a laptop—or a morning coffee catch-up that’s conveniently close to Highbury & Islington station. The focaccia sandwiches change often, but go for the ones with burrata or pesto, or ask for extra sauce, otherwise we’ve found they can be a bit dry. Still, it’s a lovely bright spot to while away a few hours, chatting to friendly staff and listening to locals gossip about upsets in the area (spoiler: they’re mainly bin-based). photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute Food Rundown Black & White Cookie When we ordered this, we were told it’s like an Oreo in cookie form. And that is correct. The caramelised white chocolate drops add some nice sweetness but in general the cocoa makes this a balanced bite. It’s chunky in the middle, with a nice crunch, but we’d like it to be gooier. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Matcha & White Chocolate Cookie The matcha flavour is nice and strong, but this cookie is a little dry and dense. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Truffle Salami Sandwich Salty focaccia plays nicely with the creamy, mild burrata and peppery salami. There’s so much rocket, though. And while the basil pesto and harissa ketchup are delicious, we’d like a lot more of them. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Bombay Chicken Sandwich Nicely spiced chicken and crunchy, refreshing cabbage make for a great sandwich filling. But the chicken is a little dry and we’d like more sauce here too." - Sinéad Cranna

Just found this nice cafe yesterday, and we went there again today. Very friendly staff, freshly made sandwiches and pastries, good coffees, and cool minimal interior. We tried Vegan Italian sandwich, Vegan Vanilla Hazelnut Danish, and Vegan Carrot Cake. They are all very well balanced which gave a luxurious feeling in the mouth. All food look really delicious, so if you are non-vegan, you will have hard time deciding what to eat. Flat White was a little larger than other cafes (therefore milkier), so if you are used to the size of Flat White from most specialty coffee shops, Cortado would do here. Or, ask for an extra shot of coffee! 😁

Nice little coffee shop located on a very busy road in London. It seems to be quite unique and it set up and like the green colour with the yellow logo. The customer service was friendly and genuine. The coffee itself, was well priced delicious and served quickly. It seems very busy inside and I can tell why, because they a great product. I visit if I was in the area? Probably not as it’s quite an average bakery and there are so many coffee shops/bakeries that are similar maybe I would due to the price. I do recommend you giving a go.

Lovely, smiley girl at the counter - just perfect for this gem of a coffee shop. Coffee was great and the cakes looked delicious. We were going to lunch, so missed out on those. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area 😊

Visited on a recommendation for a coffee and a cookie and was pleasantly surprised. Tough to find extremely high quality independent bakeries in London. I’ve posted a few photos so show the vibe, options and venue itself and hope you’ll agree this is a must visit. The staff were lovely too, if you’re passing by then this place is an absolute must, even if just to grab a quick snack!

Stopped by on my way to a beauty appointment and tried a vegetarian focaccia, which was a bit dry around the edges. The bench seating was uncomfortable and uneven, so I opted for a chair instead. The cakes looked tempting, and the staff were friendly.

Stopped by here yesterday with myself and my partner. The staff were so friendly and we ended up chatting for a while about all the treats available. The almond croissant, whilst filmed with a somewhat almond curd, was incredible and really delish. The cookies were to die for, and the coffee amazing as well. All at a really reasonable price, which is great considering the area with some places selling a pastry alone for £6! Highly recommend.

Yesterday at 3:55 pm, I went there with my brother to get a takeaway coffee. A female and a male staff member were closing up, so I asked if it was still possible to get a coffee. With an annoyed expression on her face, the female staff member said yes. I also asked for a loaf cake and a chocolate cookie, which they hadn’t yet put away. She packaged them, took the full payment from me, and then, about 10 seconds later—while I was still waiting for my coffee—she put up a “50% off” sign. I was shocked. I couldn’t hide my surprise, and when we made eye contact, she immediately removed the sign. I’ve just moved here and thought I had found my new local coffee shop. I have no idea what I did to make them so bothered. I felt really bad. Simply telling me they were closed would have been enough.
