The Best Restaurants at Milpitas Square, a Chinese Mall in the Heart of Silicon Valley | Eater SF

"A Bay Area institution opened in 1997, Fantasia remains a favorite for its commitment to trends that matter—sourcing high-quality milk and fresh ingredients—so I enjoyed rich classic milk teas and the hearty chew of perfectly cooked pearls on an old-school menu that has expanded only slightly." - Anthony Shu

Google
Very long line but totally worth the wait!! Very Taiwanese desert place. Grass jelly is amazing. The portions is a bit too small. They only have two staff working there, but people seem very used to it. Great place. Highly recommended!

Alice H.

Google
I got the hibiscus tea & jasmine green tea for the 25% sugar and less ice, but unfortunately, the drink was still a tad too sweet for my taste. However, aside from that minor issue, everything else was great. The variety of options and the overall experience were enjoyable.

Vincent T.

Google
Good boba. Quick service. No kiosk--from what I noticed. Only snacks are desserts variety vs. fried goods. If you aren't sure what to order, choose anything with a "thumbs up" on their menu.

Hannah L.

Google
Decent boba. When we went, there was only 1 staff member in the store so service was a little slow. The staff also incorrectly made one of my friend's orders.

KK B.

Google
My favorite boba tea place since early 2000’s. Many other similar business came and gone but Fantasia still here. A must try !

AJ

Google
We ordered the Taro milk tea and Muddy Okinawa milk tea. They let you pick the level of sweetness and ice. And it was lovely!

Google
Fantasia was one of the first milk tea store to come over the the USA. The chain has become sort of a McDonald's of milk tea and desserts, where every location produces acceptable food, but nothing is ever great. This place is not as good as some of the other milk tea shops nearby, but a familiar taste of old times nonetheless. Service here was quick and nice.

Yelp
Fantasia is just one of those spots that remind me of my childhood and have memories of this place throughout the years. Came on a Wednesday night, which wasn't busy, it was just the owner and the non-Asian guy who's been there for years running the place. Definitely a nice place to chill and catch up with people. They have a variety of drinks and small desserts on display. Got the jasmine milk tea with boba this time, pretty solid milk tea and chewy pearls, but the price has gone up over the past decade. Definitely a Milpitas staple though, would recommend to anyone to come check it out!

Yelp
I've been coming here for over 10 years but today's interaction left a distasteful impression. We had ordered 2 drinks and forgot to input 5 star rewards. Decided we want to get another drink so went up to order a 3rd drink and imputed 5 star rewards noting we had a free drink upgrade- awesome. However, the cashier informed us that the size upgrade would only be allowed if we ordered two drinks. I explained that this was our third drink overall, but she insisted the strictness to apply within a single transaction urging us to buy another drink, something not specified anywhere in the rewards terms. Additionally, we were told that a cup for water with a lid costs $0.75. I understand the economy is tough but this attitude and inflexibility with a small reward was dissappointing. There's many boba stores in the area, would prefer and recommend supporting business where customers are appreciated instead of nickel and dimed.

Yelp
I've been coming here for a while. It felt like its time I should review this spot. I've been coming here since it first opened up. This is my favorite tea spot and the best by far (In my opinion). If you come here on the weekends it can be a challenge to find parking. There pearls here are soft and chewy and always on point. The service is very fast and straight to the point lol. Esthetic has changed over the years but for the better. Cozy and modern. The line to order drinks usually goes out the door and kind of wraps depending on the time you go.
google avatar

Shih Fa K.

Yelp
I always get the taro milk with red bean here, and it is still as creamy and delicious as ever. The service is consistently good, and the ambiance is a classic coffee shop look.
google avatar

Anthony N.

Yelp
My friend says this place is s tier for her. But I think that it is ok. The white peach jasmine tea tastes decent but u can get a better one at tenren.
google avatar

J Christian E.

Yelp
Been going here since my childhood so it might just be nostalgia talking. The Passionfruit is always a great choice in a hot summer day. I always get half ice half sweetness and add grass jelly. Can't go wrong with the fruit teas to me.
google avatar

Larixsa H.

Yelp
I've been coming here for a while for their black milk tea, and nothing else compares. It's always consistent and easily one of the most authentic HK style milk teas I've had. Highly recommend 10/10!
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
As good as I remember. The Jasmine hit the spot on a hot day and was fragrant but had a strange after taste, not as fragrant as say Molly Tea however. Service was fast and nice and the staff were very nice. I liked the jungle decor in the store as well. $16.5 for two drinks, 10 drinks for a free one.
google avatar

Samson W.

Yelp
Haven't been to this location in three years. I had the Jasmine Milk Tea with Boba. The prices sure have increased since I last had one. No wonder it wasn't as busy as in the past. It's of the one of the only places that don't charge extra for boba.
google avatar

Kasey N.

Yelp
Fantasia Coffee and Tea offers a variety of drinks, including their standout Muddy Okinawa Milk Tea which is a brown sugar milk tea topped with cookie bits. Other popular choices include the Crème Brûlée Milk Tea and the refreshing Honey Lime Jasmine Tea. The service is pretty fast; we got out drinks just a few seconds after ordering. Customization options for sweetness and ice levels are available, allowing you to change your drink to your liking. They also have a few options for desserts including mochi and cake! There is limited seating available but this place is very clean!

Yelp
Saw so many good reviews and decided to check this place out. Fantasia is in a big plaza so parking wasn't an issue. I came on a Monday night and there was no wait. We ordered 3 drinks: - Muddy Okinawa Green Milk Tea ($6.95) from the brown sugar milk tea menu - White Peach Sunset ($6.45) - Oak Wood Roasted Mocha ($5.95) Honestly, I wasn't impressed with any of the drinks. There was one worker and surprisingly all 3 drinks came out very quickly, but that could also be why nothing was special. The price is for the regular size drink as well which is pricey, especially if you add any toppings. We got less sweet for all the drinks and they weren't sweet, but the flavor was weak and tasted watered down. If I had to choose, the white peach sunset was probably the best. The boba was good though! Overall, I think there's better options with better pricing.

Yelp
This Fantasia location is in the Milpitas Square plaza. Parking may be hit or miss here, as this is a pretty busy plaza, especially on weeknights and weekends. Very convenient spot, so I frequent here when I am in the area or plaza, but not the most friendly service each time, so almost makes me not want to come back, as I do not feel welcomed here. I usually order a jasmine milk tea with boba and grass jelly at either 75% or 100% sweetness and 50% ice. Usually it tasted pretty decent and I would enjoy my drink, as it has a good creaminess and slight bitterness to it (when the female employee or older guy makes it). The last visit, a different guy made my drink and it tasted only like 25% sweetness and it was super bitter, but I already left, so I just had to take the L and go somewhere else after.

Yelp
One of my favorite boba shops of all time!! Their classic milk tea and jasmine tea are the most fragrant teas that I've had. Hot milk tea from Fantasia is my go-to in the winter. My favorite thing is that they are always consistent and super fast at making drinks, once you order it'll be out within 1 minute Their store is nice and clean, very comfortable to sit and chat
google avatar

Sudesna M.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to stop by for a quick drink. Their menu boasts of hot, cold, fruity, milky and bubbly drinks. Whatever your mood, I'm sure they will have a drink for you. My personal favorites are Lychee, Peach fruit teas and Muddy Okinawa. Drinks have been pretty consistent over the past years and I have never had a single complaint. Of course they customize the sweetness and ice level as desired. Efficient service. Small place but has that classic coffee shop's warmth. Very cozy ambience. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Markus Y.

Yelp
The drink's... a lot? I got the guava sunset, but it's unedibly sweet with a strange dry aftertaste. It would be fine, except it's seven dubloons for what is essentially watered down guava juice with a shot of sugar. There are no solids in the drink. Overall environment; cozy, if a bit claustrophobic. They have wifi and places to charge your phone. Service here is fast, and brusk (yippee!) but very unfriendly (ah well). To be fair, i'd be unfriendly if I was being paid minimum wage too. Overall: would not come here again
google avatar

Yelp
Here is my two cents on the quality quantity and price of my order.. It was delivered in a very timely matter by GrubHub.. I got an order of what they call Okinawa coffee tea .. it arrived as I requested sweet little bit with ice It had a very unique flavor that I am not accustomed to. It was OK, but I don't think I will order it again. .. because I am not familiar or actually like the different flavors that the Asian population really does. But if you like the way, the Asian neighborhood have their coffee and then this place is I highly recommend recommended.... And a ride ice cold the way I requested it and just so sweet so please give them a try .

Karen J.

Yelp
I believe he may be the owner, he was irritable and got mad/annoyed when I asked for napkins. Worst customer service ever. No smile, no thank you, no respect. Don't come here unless you want to deal with attitude and rudeness.
google avatar

Shirley F.

Yelp
It was a COLD winter morning and I needed to switch it up from the standard Phils and Starbucks. There were a few students studying but service was QUICK. Taro Fresh Milk - Just LIKE the Asian taro sago dessert (without the sago) SO. COMFORTING. Anyways, I definitely recommend y'all stop by when you're in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Not my favorite tea place but it hits the spot. The boba is extra soft and my girlfriend loves it. She recommends the white peach. The drinks are all just good nothing to write home about.
google avatar

Rimi K.

Yelp
The OG boba spot. Ordered: Green milk tea with pearls It might be because it's the first boba I ever had but it's set the standard. The boba a measure all other bobas with. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
Their fresh taro milk tea with boba is my go to, they use real taro (no artificial taro flavor powder) and whole milk
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
Been coming for two decades and I still love the mango milk tea, taro milk tea, and red bean milk tea. Simply the best, perfectly sweet without having to ask for adjustments. Quick service with consistency...you can't go wrong stopping by after lunch or dinner. The place is small, but most people just grab and go.

Li T.

Yelp
I have been going to this Fantasia since they first opened. I used to love this place. But lately the past few times I have been here, their drinks are mid at best. I don't know if they changed some recipes or because there are so many different places now for milk tea/ boba drinks that are better in taste and quality. They've also gotten drink orders wrong too. I think I have outgrown this place and will not be coming back. I'm not sure how long they will survive considering the intense competition around.
google avatar

Lloyd C.

Yelp
This shop has been around for years! I am surprised I have not reviewed this yet. This store is smaller than the Cupertino store, but it has a few tables for you to sit and relax. Fantasia has been consistent over the years amongst fierce competition and still hanging strong. I stopped in for a Classic Milk Tea with boba. Yum.
google avatar

Vanessa A.

Yelp
Been coming here for years but yesterday's visit was my last. There was one inconsiderate party ahead of my boyfriend and I who took over 15 minutes to order and completed multiple separate transactions due to their indecisiveness. The shop owner allowed the party to deliberate and change their mind multiple times while we stood there waiting patiently. You would think the shop owner would ask the party ahead to kindly make their decision after the second attempt and step aside while he tends to the other only other customers but no. When it was finally our turn, we had to ask if we could order and there was no acknowledgement for the wait. I suggest taking your business to many other tea boba shops in the bay.

Yelp
We got their new drink that was posted on the door, the summer sunset. It's a mango green tea with hibiscus and other sorts which I enjoyed. Had mine at 50% sugar and still feel like I could've done 25% due to how sweet it was. It tasted good though and I added Pearl. However, $9 for one boba + $1 tip = $10 is overpriced! I go to many boba spots and boba doesn't even reach $9. That's only if you had other or multiple customizations. I found this boba to be quite overpriced. Still good though. The man in the front was nice and seemed to work hard. It was busy there!
google avatar

Alice H.

Yelp
I got the hibiscus tea & jasmine green tea for the 25% sugar and less ice, but unfortunately, the drink was still a tad too sweet for my taste. However, aside from that minor issue, everything else was great. The variety of options and the overall experience were enjoyable.

Yelp
My family and I came in the store The lady at the front counter was beyond rude Looked like she hates her job Absolutely no customer service Mad dogged everyone who walked up to the counter No thank you come again We sat in to drink our drinks The entire time we were in there She looked like she wanted to slap everyone she took and order for
google avatar

Kaelin N.

Yelp
My little sweet tooth loves the Muddy Okinawa! They are very quick and efficient! Their boba is always perfectly soft. Fantasia is such a treat to enjoy. I haven't tried other items yet, but I love it for dessert!
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
There are so many boba shops around now, but this was one of the originals. I associate Fantasia with their almond milk tea because it was one of the first drinks I ever got from there, and it tastes so much like Capri-Sun to me lol. My cousin and I stopped by for boba for dessert after getting dinner at the dry pot restaurant nearby in the same plaza. I'm surprised at how expensive boba has gotten lately. I got a basic Jasmine milk tea with boba. I don't know what the rush is here though because they try to finish making the boba as soon as you're done ordering. It seems like they were in a constant hurry despite they're not being many people in the store. My boba tasted fine; it's hard to mess up a Jasmine milk tea. My cousin and I sat down to chat while drinking our boba. Before leaving, I went up again to order a fruit tea for my mom and I asked for clarification about its ingredients since certain fruits cause complications with her medicine, and they were being extremely rude about it. Chill, I just asked what's in your drink lol. Not sure if I'd come back again after that.

Yelp
Fantasia has been around for a long time, and this is its best location. I used to get the jasmine milk tea here growing up, but when I tried it again, I was really unimpressed. However, the fruit teas are pleasantly refreshing here! Prices are reasonable at about $5-6 for a regular sized drink, depending on what you get of course. This spot gets really busy during the day because people come here after lunch! The boba itself here is amazing and is consistently cooked well. HONEY LIME GREEN TEA: 4.5/5 ($6) Refreshing, sweet, and citrusy! I can drink this at any season, day and night. I get this without the aloe to save 50 cents. 25-50% sweetness is perfect for this. I recommend half or less ice since the default essentially fills the entire cup. This is one of the manager's specials and is also my mom's favorite drink here. MANGO GREEN TEA: 4.25/5 (~$5) Love how you can see the mango chunks in this! A bit sweet at 50% so I recommend getting 25% (unless you have a sweet tooth). Refreshing and pairs well with the green tea.

Lani M.

Yelp
Fantasia is one of my favorite spots to get boba drinks! I've tried a few different drinks here but my favorite is their Muddy Okinawa Fresh Milk with boba. It is definitely on the sweeter side, so it's a perfect dessert drink. I like this location because there's plenty of parking and extremely quick service. Our drinks came out within a few seconds, as soon as we sat down. I couldn't believe how fast it was. They also have some pastries and a few tables for seating. Such a nice spot that keeps me coming back!
google avatar

Kevin N.

Yelp
- Muddy Okinawa Milk Tea w/ Boba // The drink looks amazing but I did think it was a little bit too sweet because of the amount of brown sugar. - White Peach Sunset w/ Agar Boba // This drink was super refreshing and you can really taste the hint of peach flavor which was nice! - - - Would definitely give their other drinks a try!
google avatar

Nemo M.

Yelp
I'm going to keep it short and simple, do not go here. 1. The old man who was taking order was extremely rude to customers- there was a line and we witnessed this. For example, the man in front of us had to tell him to calm down because he was being hostile. 2. The drinks have continually down grade over the years. We got 4 drinks and they were all bad.... And they dare charge that much. Perhaps at one point Fantasia was good but not anymore and definitely not even a contender to be a decent boba spot. Please do yourself a favor and do not go here, there are so many other Boba places especially within that plaza.
google avatar

Erin P.

Yelp
This is still byfar my favorite boba next to Ten Ren in SF Chinatown. I got my usual, a guava green tea (sunset). Service was fast, the pearls are one of the few on the boba places that is chewy (in a good way) and actually absorbs the flavor of the tea well. Not a lot of food options here, but usually folks come here for the boba and occasional candy and baked sweets.
google avatar

Lily P.

Yelp
I haven't had Fantasia since they closed their location in Newark. Ordered the classic milk tea with boba 75% sweet. Next time I would do 100% since it wasn't sweet enough. Service was fast and efficient. Boba was the perfect texture!
google avatar

Kevin T.

Yelp
Fantasia's boba teas have a great whole bodied tea flavor, with a sweetness that seems to be low compared to most shops, thus catering nicely to a Chinese palate. Nice aromas and pretty much got it within 5 minutes of us ordering, so blitzingly fast (recent visits have had my drinks ready by the time I finished paying, like dayum). Boba being chewy and on point firmness means it's likely to stay as my go-to if I'm in this Milpitas square area. Prices are fair and they use non dairy creamer too! Only thing to note is they seem to use fountain-drink type lids rather than the "sealed boba cup" tops you typically get at the majority of boba shops so you'll need to be a bit more cautious if you're not drinking them immediately. Their 'flagship flavor' seems to be the Muddy Okinawa milk teas, which to me is both a more aesthetic presentation plus has a more complex profile to it and is my personal favorite (cookie bits on top of a foamy milk tea with brown sugar drizzle). The sunset teas are blends of juice/tea to get that neat faded color look; of those I've had the White Peach Sunset and it's quite a nice fruity tea without being overly sweet. I should explore the other boba offerings, but it's hard to resist.

Yelp
Let's do a quick pros and cons list: + Ample parking here! This boba shop is located in a large plaza along Barber Lane. There are dozens of businesses here, but the lot has plenty of spots for everyone. Even during busy times, I don't have too much trouble parking close to the storefront. + Service is quick and efficient! There's usually a long line that goes out the door, but it moves fast. There's not much seating inside, which can be a negative for some. I don't usually spend much time here since it's mostly a grab-and-go kind of place for me. + They use non-dairy creamer, which is vegan and kosher. 0 trans fat and 0 mg cholesterol as well. Soy is listed as one of the ingredients. - On my most recent visit, the milk tea was flavorless. It was either watered down or did not have enough sweetness to it. - The texture of the boba was okay. Soft, but not mushy. Didn't have much sweetness. But they do give a decent amount at least. Overall, somewhat disappointed. I wouldn't rule out another visit, but if they can't get the most basic flavor right, I'm not sure if I'll be comfortable trying other flavors.
google avatar

Dillon T.

Yelp
Fantasia Coffee & Tea, a longstanding boba shop in this plaza, impresses with consistent quality and diverse offerings. Despite a smaller space, it offers a cozy atmosphere with ample parking. The menu, priced reasonably at $5-8, caters to varied tastes. Quick service and personalized drinks contribute to its 4/5 rating. I enjoyed the Muddy Okinawa Milk Tea and recommend it if you're looking for something on the sweeter side.

Yelp
I stopped by Fantasia after work because I hadn't been here in forever, and I was in the area so why not? I'm glad I made that decision. My family went to Fantasia occasionally when I was a kid as this was my sister's favorite boba place. We only ever got her favorite drink here, lychee jasmine milk tea, but I remember trying the muddy Okinawa milk tea once which is what I was craving on my recent visit here. When I walked into the area, an older Asian man hurried up to the counter ready to take my order. He seemed so friendly and sweet, and the way he just scurried over was so cute haha. This Fantasia location has tables and wifi so I decided to stay here for a bit. After ordering, I was barely getting situated at a table when my drink was ready. If you have a sweet tooth like me, the muddy Okinawa milk tea is the drink for you: brown sugary tea and syrup topped with whipped cream and Oreo crumbs. The boba was pretty soft for the most part as well. What's not to like?? I'll tell you then...the PRICE! The drink was $7.50 for a regular that is smaller than the average small for boba shops in the area. No wonder my family doesn't come here anymore :( I don't regret coming here to get the drink that I've been thinking about for years every time I passed by a Fantasia. Now that I've satisfied that craving, I probably won't come back here too near in the future. One day though :)

Yelp
It was my first time here and my family wanted to get some milk tea after lunch. They told me about this place and since I've never been here before, had to give it a try. Creme Brûlée Milk Tea: I honestly couldn't decide what to get, but this one intrigued me. It was a milk tea but had the essence of the Creme Brûlée. I love this sugary dessert, so I was curious how they did it in drink form. It's pretty much a basic milk tea with some sort of Creme brûlée topping. It was decent, though a bit more sweeter then I would like. Eating the actually pudding had what I expected for a Creme brûlée, so at least I got that experience. Overall, I can see myself coming back here again
google avatar

Nina V.

Yelp
I was actually so impressed at how my drink turned out. Lychee green milk tea, 50% sweet, reg ice with boba. And it was perfect! I loved the flavor of the tea, and the lychee taste did not taste super artificial either. I might have waited a while before drinking it so the ice could've melted but either way, I liked the drink. The lychee bits inside added to my positive experience as well. Also the boba is really good. So soft and chewy. The perfect kind.
google avatar

Yelp
2 stars for the female worker, she had a horrible attitude. The boss man offers great service.
google avatar

Yelp
This Fantasia is located in Calaveras Center Plaza so plenty of parking available. Haven't had Fantasia in a couple years and it's nice to see how consistent their milk teas are. Also first time trying their grass jelly combo dessert and was pleasantly surprised how good it was - not too sweet, just the way I like it. Service was fairly quick as we came about 25 mins before closing. Will be visiting again when I'm in the plaza!
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
I was in the area and wanted some boba after eating dim sum at koi. I've had fantasia a long time ago so I thought I would give it another try. I ordered jasmine milk tea with boba. I asked for 50% but it was still really sweet. They have lists of pastries and desserts but I was too full from dimsum to try.
google avatar

Phil I.

Yelp
Came by during lunch hour hardly any customers so I was able to browse through the menu items quite a change from what it was three years ago when they had the pandemic restriction in place though facial mask is optional and service has been excellent and prices have been reasonable starts at $5 to $5.50 for regular size add a dollar for large size which I had the passion fruit tea regular ice 25% sweetness flavorful and refreshing. Michael the cashier was coolest guy gave me hints regarding reward programs all you do is type your phone number on the screen and they will text you their mobile apps. Parking not a program would avoid coming out here in the evenings due to vandals and theft.

Yelp
Good ole' fantasia! I love this spot for having seasonal drinks. Started riding around the barber lane plaza originally for another place but they close at 8:30pm pst. Poop! Good thing fantasia stays open until 9pm. Because it was hot, the place was a bit busier than usual, but I was able to get my drink immediately after ordering. I got the summer sunset tea which was pretty good! A bit sweeter than the usual drinks I get, but definitely worth the try if you like sweet tea drinks. Overall, a really easy place to get to with a lot of boba competition. However, after all these years; I can see why fantasia still has a location here. Highly recommend for your basic boba needs! 4/5 :)

Yelp
I love Fantasia, and was introduced to it at its first location in Cupertino. Since this location opened in Milpitas, I have come here on my own, with so many friends and for the last 14+ years, with my son as well! This place consistently serves delicious drinks and desserts. I also love that they have fun snacks and sweets and try out new drinks too! We love the service - so efficient and professional. Both my son and I love to see the OG crew these so many years! thank you for our yummy go to place - we love going whenever we have a chance and we recommend others go too!

Yelp
Fantasia has one of the fastest service I've ever seen. By the time I had finished paying, my drink had already been made. I visited this location around 5pm on a Thursday and there was no line and plenty of parking. On weekends, parking can be a pain in this plaza. This location is a bit small & they have some in-door seating. I haven't tried much of their menu but was introduced to their Muddy Okinawa milk tea & never looked back. It's definitely on the sweeter side so I recommend lowering that if you're not a sweets person. They add Oreo crumbs to the top of the drink, which also add to the flavor. I ordered egg pudding as well, but didn't really add much in terms of flavor since the sweetness of the drink was over powering it. I did like the texture and consistency of the pudding though. It was super soft and not very squishy and chewy like some other places. They do offer small & large cups in terms of sizes. Overall, the service and drink was great, but on the downside, this milk tea for a small was pretty pricey. The total was approx $8 (including tax) for one drink.
