"‘Faon’ is the French word for fawn. The chef opened his restaurant in his hometown, choosing the name because everyone finds fawns adorable. The cuisine is French, but with plum vinegar, salted rice malt and white miso added to the mix. Meat dishes lean toward traditional French preparation methods such as roasting and baking in pies. Many of the inspirations, such as blending ‘narazuke’, vegetables pickled in sake lees, into red-wine or madeira sauce, are conversations between the French and Japanese food cultures." - Michelin Inspector

The food was absolutely delicious, and the price was very reasonable. Honestly, it’s surprising to find this level of quality at such a price. The staff were kind and attentive. Thank you for the wonderful service.

This place is fantastic. I found it through Michelin's recommendations. Although it is French cuisine, you feel peaceful in the environment yet rich in food. My son had a 3-course creamy corn soup and croissant meatball. I had fish and beef and many appetizers. Every course was a surprise and tasty, except the desert might be a bit sour for us. The waitresses were quiet and served just right in time. Every course has an exquisite design. This experience was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Nara.

A gem of a find in Nara. The food and service are excellent and the subtle fusion of french and japanese cuisine is outstanding. The warmth and friendliness was exemplary... last to leave a huge downpour started... When Dio saw that we were not dressed for a deluge, and taxis were not to be found, he jumped into his car and drove us back to our hotel. Thank you for a great meal, experience and kindness.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here and enjoyed an amazing dinner! The place was fully booked even on a Monday evening so we were very lucky to have been able to make reservations. The staff members are all very polite and nice, the food amazing and the restaurant itself is very cozy! We will definitely be going again! Ps especially the fish was delicious!

The wagyu lunch set was incredible - every dish was very well-cooked, great layers of flavors, attentive service, and bright & comfy vibes. I had A-course (one main dish) 3500¥ and upgraded to wagyu rump steak with additional 660¥. The appetizers were impressive, espagot in pesto/ amberjack carpaccio with apple salad, then a bowl of hearty pumpkin soup. The main dish, wagyu steak, cooked perfectly, though rump steak is usually lean but wagyu gives it rich texture, not to mention the very cute deer deco made by carrot. The dessert fits autumn theme well - chestnut puree and dark chocolate paste with custard ice cream. A bit heavy for me but quite authentic. Special thanks to the staff who helped me to serve everything in 1hr (I was in a hurry) but still in an attentive & considerate tempo without rushing. Lunch is cash only. No complaints given the very reasonable price in this Michelin guide place. Will be back!

We wanted to have a fine dining experience during our trip and decided to check out this restaurant which was highly rated by the Michelin guide and the experience was excellent. The food was top-notch and the staff was extremely friendly. Some in our party had dietary restrictions which they were more than happy to cater to despite it being a set menu. The location is very Central and right under one of the most beautiful pagodas in the city and near a lake. The restaurant was extremely reasonable considering the quality and amount of food. Top Notch wine as well. Overall highly recommended for a wonderful French culinary experience

We had pretty high expectations going in, thanks to all the great reviews. But honestly, the food still blew us away. Every bite, from the starters to the mains to the dessert, was so flavorful and utterly delightful. What really touched us, though, was the chef’s kindness and care. My girlfriend recently developed a seafood allergy, and when we mentioned it while making the reservation, the chef went out of their way to create a special menu just for her. It wasn’t the standard one, but it was just as incredible. Thank you so much for such a wonderful and memorable evening in Nara—it really, really made our day.

From a French restaurant near Nara Park It's a small restaurant with a nice atmosphere. From the first plate to the date, we enjoyed all the handmade dishes from noon. Next time, I would like to try the dinner.
