The 12 Best Restaurants and Bars in Kerns | Eater Portland

"Farag’s, a summer mezcal and wine bar behind Güero (another great Kerns restaurant) is a summer must-do. The patio truly is paradise; on hot days there’s a cooling mist under the billowing shade sails and on many evenings live jazz accompanies the breeze. The small-batch beverage menu highlights natural wine, sake, and mezcal and features mezcal/sake cocktails and pairings. The food is as fresh and gorgeous as the atmosphere and the cold beans will make anyone a legume lover." - Anastasia Sloan

What an incredible restaurant. Everything, and I mean everything we had to drink, and especially to eat, was amazing. The bread was crispy yet soft, the butter rich and salty. The labneh tangy and complex with every bite exploding with flavor from the grapes, olives, and shallots making each go back slightly different. The beans were amazing and the ribs were PERFECT. Tender and flavorful with a char that was flavorful yet never burnt. I can’t say enough good things about this place. We damn near ate the whole menu between two of us and would absolutely come back.

Great patio space with shaded areas and misters for warm weather. The food menu was on the smaller side but everything we ordered was great. We got lebni (order it with bread), burger, and shrimp.

This summer pop up is the absolute best. The cocktails are fantastic the service is top notch. I will definitely be back on Sunday for live jazz and id love to try their food as well.

One of the best meals I've had this summer. Every dish and drink was fresh and interesting -- standouts were Ribs, Dates, and Burger. Be sure to get the full sized bread at the get go to mop up all the delicious sauces of the other plates. Lovely atmosphere, Mediterranean-esque. I learned they close for the season around Sept 28th, so don't miss this popup behind Guero! Walk-in only, we arrived at 5:45 and seated immediately on a Saturday. Full with a wait around 6:30.

Amazing spot for a summer dinner. The patio is mostly shaded and offers a little mist to keep the guests cool. We tried drinks and wine and we all loved what we got. The menu is fairly small, but that means if you are 3-4 people you can try it all! Highly recommend doing family style and sharing. We almost tried it all, our highlights were the bread (!!), olives, cold beans, melon, Lebni (AMAZING!!!), Em’s kibbe. Prices are really good. We’ll be back to try more!

Both our visits have been excellent. The food is consistently outstanding across the board, both beautiful and delicious! Service is another strength, with the ambiance it is easy to feel welcomed and comfortable. Cocktails are excellent and the small batch mezcal selection is fantastic, with the sake (!) also well-curated. The picnic table seating is tough on bad backs, my only regret. It is all too rare these days to eat out and while there, hope to return soon.

We came here wanting dinner but found that they only had appetizers on the menu. (I don’t eat pork, so that limited my options). What we did have was very good - grilled bread (very garlicky!), cheese plate & the lebni. The star of the show was the lebni and my sparkling wine was soooooo good! Perfect for a hot and sunny day on a patio! It was quite warm but they were very accommodating to help the people find shade! They also have misters to assist. They had a lovely live jazz band playing which really made the scene. The rest room is a spectacle- with random videos playing whilst you tinkle! Super cute atmosphere, very friendly service and good vibes!

From beginning to end, a 10/10 experience. From the ambiance to the service (thank you Tim!) to the cocktails to the food. Everything is carefully considered. Top it all off with one of the most inventive and delicious burgers I’ve ever encountered. 🙏

Yelp
Very fortunate to have been invited to dinner with friends who highly recommended and I'm Floored!! What an absolute beautiful space!!! Very cute romantic vibe...Couldn't believe what deliciousness was coming out of the cart!! Perfect small plates to share ...We ordered one of each on the whole menu, minus the burger and cocktails were delicious as well!! Apparently can get a bit warm but we were very lucky this day with a slight overcasted drizzle!! Staff were very attentive friendly and super helpful!! Highly recommended!!

Yelp
Arguably the hippest spot to visit this summer season! The people of Guëro did an amazing job setting up this patio, creating a tropical yet relaxing and modern outdoor location for us to escape from the heat. Their drink menu highlights mezcals and wines, with some mezcal cocktails. Every drinks were got were classy and smooth, you can definitely taste the quality of the liquor used. For food, it's smaller plates best for sharing so get a bunch to try! We got the Em's Kibbeh which was like a well-stuffed dolmeh with ground lamb and beef served on a bed of yogurt. Delicious. We also really loved the Melon dish that came with juicy slices of cantelope, hard grated sheep cheese, and some of the tastiest infused oil. Can't get enough of this one with their Rye Bread - a match made in heaven. The Cheese Plate was fun with a few variety of unique cheeses to entertain your palate. Similarly, the Chips was a unique twist on nachos, in my opionion. With green olives, anchovies, and salami. A party of savory flavors. Can't rave about how great of a spot this was. Totally check them out before the summer ends!

Yelp
A chic ambience compared to all the other PDX patios. A summer spot for sure ~ outdoor picnic tables with sunshades. A section of seating with hard roof. For not a building, the price point is pretty high. An onsite food truck with an elevated tortas menu. The mezcales are strong, so sip slowly ;)

Yelp
What an amazing pop up. I cant wait for this to become a regular spot. They were hinting of the possibility. We went on one of the final nights. They transformed the patio into a sweet ,quaint, twinkly lighted oasis behind Guero. Everything was served from the cart on site. We met early and it was busy with a line by the time we left. The dishes are SO beautiful. Some so simple but delicious=the melon with cheese and lebni were a hi light. I am looking forward to seeing what's next for them.

Yelp
The atmosphere is pretty unique and kindof cool. They definitely have that going for them. But the food was just alright, and overpriced. The drinks also were just alright, and very overpriced. Good service and friendly people. So if you're in it to hang with friends in a cool new spot then have at it.

Yelp
All the food we ordered was so delicious and inventive. Truly everything was so good. We got the bread, the butter plate, the cheese plate, the beans, the melon, the olives, the kibbe, the tomato salad, and the dessert. I recommend all of it.
