I’ve worked in the service industry and have much respect for restaurant workers. I know some nights can be really crappy. However, this was one of the worst service I’ve received in Portland.
First server was clearly annoyed to be there before we even sat down. He wouldn’t answer any questions about the menu or the portions. He just dismissively said “it’s a la carte, you order as much or as little of what you want” and walked away. Like huh?? Yes, I’ve ordered at a restaurant before.
Then we tried to get his attention several times to put in an order but he downright ignored us until another server took over. He also seemed bitter and curt but he at least talked to us. We ordered olives, bread, butter(has to be ordered separately for $5 btw), lebne, burger, and prawn (which they turned out to be out of). Other than the drinks, everything trickled out one by one so slowly, including the olives and the bread! It’s not like they were all that busy— there were several empty tables, servers were hanging out by the bar, and the menu was very limited. After 1+ hr, the burger was still nowhere in sight. Nor did anyone come to check on us until we had to flag someone else down to cancel what was to be our main dish. I came home and made some ramen.
To their credit, the atmosphere is pleasant and the lebne was quite tasty. Also they comped our drinks, but then the cancelled items were still in the total calculation which I realized only after paying. I thought it was overpriced anyway although maybe not for that location. I could go on and on but you got the point. My friend and I still had a good night as we bonded over this substandard experience and vowed to never go back. Too many better options with friendlier happier people who are at least able to pretend.
