"Fare Play transforms a routine dinner into a welcoming, joyful experience. The Blooming Caesar Salad, with flowering spring greens, carrot, crisped potato skins, and chef Brendan Blaine Darby’s Caesar dressing, is a standout dish. The restaurant encourages diners to enjoy their meals to the fullest, often prompting them to lick their plates clean." - Eater Staff

"Fare Play is a pop-up from chef Brenden Blaine Darby in San Francisco’s SoMa district. It started as a dinner party for friends and has now become a public pop-up operating in a restaurant space. The venue highlights hyper-seasonal fare inspired by local produce from the Heart of the City farmers market and Love Apple Farms. The menu is influenced by Italian and Portuguese dishes taught by Darby's grandmothers and changes with the season’s produce. Fare Play offers both a tasting menu and a la carte options, with a smaller drink menu that includes wine, beer, and nonalcoholic options." - Dianne de Guzman

Atmosphere is so special, warm and inviting. Can’t recommend this place enough! Perfect date night spot or for a cute dinner with friends. Such delicious food! Loved this vegetarian forward menu. Try the gnocchi!!

What a unique dining experience. If you have any interest in going, DO NOT HESITATE. This restaurant elevates and highlights the beauty of their ingredients without trying to disguise vegetables as something meat related. And as someone who eats meat almost daily (sorry) I did not miss it at all. Fresh farmer's market food, flowers, and love translate to an amazing dining experience that you won't forget. The cultivated ambiance, tasting venue, and service combine for a lovely mix of fine dining at a friend's house! And the sliding scale pay structure is something that could only originate in the Bay Area, where we think differently and know what people are tryly 'entitled' to.

Google
Incredible food, incredible staff, incredible ambiance. They had a short but well thought wine list, each item in the menu showed that a lot of work had gone into every detail. Sergio was delightful from the moment we walked in till we left. It was honestly a crime not all tables were full. Definitely pricey, we paid close to $400 for 4 people after tip, with a bottle of wine, but well worth it. Its a shame they are not here permanently, but I will definitely make an effort to go back while the pop up lasts.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal experience at Fare Play! If you're on the hunt for delicious vegetarian fare bursting with flavor, look no further. Chef Brendan Darby's background from Noma shines through in every bite. The Grandma's Soupage and purple gnocchi were beyond exceptional, truly memorable dishes. This 6-course tasting menu at $95 per person is an absolute steal for the quality. Don't miss out on this pop-up gem, open Thurs-Sat until mid-June. Come for the food, stay for the welcoming atmosphere. 5 stars without a doubt!

Yelp
I came across this restaurant online and liked the farm to table concept. It wasn't too hard to make a reservation about a week in advance, but I imagine that'll change since they recently opened without doing much press. The place is casual and artistic. It's a pop-up restaurant, and they're going to go until May and see what happens from there. The service was very warm, welcoming, and friendly. The dishes were well put together and well executed. It's very produce/vegetable forward. It's not strictly vegetarian, but our meal didn't have any meat other than anchovies that were mixed into our salad. The dishes were good, especially the winter mushroom gnocchi. Grandma's soupage was hearty too. I also think their dishes change weekly, so you might get different options. Their website/instagram seems to post the week's menu. They do have a small selection of wine/beer and non-alcoholic beverages. The tasting menu was $75 each, which is what we opted for. For two wines, two tasting menus, and one dessert, it was $191 before tax and tip. Worth a visit and I wish them success. I know it's not easy to run a restaurant in SF.

Yelp
In a world of uncertainty, Fare Play is a treasure chest of humanity. When I was looking for a delicious meal for a friend's birthday, I was hoping to find something new after being in SF for 18 years. After looking through the list of places, Fare Play caught my attention as a pop up. With one of our guest having nut allergies, I was happily surprised that we could find a place that could accommodate him and be vegetarian forward. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Sergio ( who had the most beautiful outfit) and their wonderful hospitality. The decor was cozy and inviting with an aroma of flavors coming from the kitchen. We opted for the tasting menu that was 5 hearty dishes and each one was delicious that left us speechless. The soup tasted like a warm hug and the flavors made me feel like I was home in my family's kitchen. What was even more special than the food, was the energy this place radiates. I can't thank everyone enough for reminding me what San Francisco used to be like when we all loved each other, welcomed strangers with open arms and bonded over food. I can't wait to come back again as they're only open until 6/21/24. Please do yourself a favor and sample a slice of heaven while they're still here.

Yelp
Such a cool find! My friend & I were excited to check out this SoMa pop-up after reading positive reviews, and we were very satisfied with our meal! We opted to order a la carte instead of the prix fixe menu for $98. The gnocchi and peach sorbet were highlights of the meal -- amazing ingredients and flavors. The servers were helpful and friendly, offering recommendations and giving us context on the chef's creations. Definitely recommend this spot for a tasty meal in an intimate setting!

Yelp
We had the Caesar salad, egg and beet carpaccio and the mushroom Marsala gnocchi. The salad was so light and fresh and the dressing was lemony and sharp. The beet carpaccio was delicious, I was scraping the plate trying to get all of the beet puree. The Marsala sauce for the gnocchi was amazing. So delicious and the texture of the gnocchi was perfect. Service spot on. Very attentive. The interior was really pretty with original art and beautiful contrast between dark blue and orange. Highly recommend you try it before it's gone!

Yelp
Amazing new restaurant with celebrity chef from Chopped - not to mention trained at Noma! A must try tasting menu.

Yelp
I have the pleasure of knowing Brenden for a few months now and couldn't be more impressed at what he's currently doing. His popup, Fare Play, showcases a high profile, well traveled global resume w his spins. The entire experience from vibes to food is thoughtfully curated with a literal small farm to table brand of quality and integrity. It's playful, artsy, urban, different af, warm and welcoming with engaging, gracious professional service. I love supporting popups but Fare Play might be the best I've seen since Laura + Sayat's Modern Istanbul. In short, it's really good, unique and absolutely destination worthy. I'm not sure how long he's popping up so book a table soon bc if you don't you'll kick yourself later -- seriously.
