Say Hello to Farmacia, Boston’s Tiniest Full-Service Cocktail Bar | Eater Boston

"Tucked into 5 North Square in the historic North End, I found a super-petite, nine-seat, 512-square-foot, ticketed cocktail experience created by Phillip Rolfe that prioritizes classic cocktails, personal service, and big hospitality over gimmicks. Rolfe—whose résumé includes Parla, Wink and Nod, and Abe and Louie’s—runs a tightly curated program where guests book and pay $55 per person through Tock for a roughly 75-minute visit that includes the equivalent of three cocktails, house-made bar snacks, tax and gratuity; you only need to bring ID. The bar’s Italian-themed first menu is organized by body (lightest to heaviest) and includes the Explosione di Zenzero (Hendrix gin, raw Caldonia honey from a Vermont farm, cold-pressed ginger juice, lime, and cucumber), mid-bodied fruit-forward cocktails, and coffee-based finishes like a frothy espresso martini topped with coffee beans, while snacks rotate (examples: nine-spice roasted mixed nuts, white bean purée with raw garlic/olive oil/rosemary/basil, and pistachio gelato). With every seat along a sleek 1930s-era marble bar accented in emerald green and gold, black-and-white tile flooring, and a gold-leaf ceiling, Rolfe personally chats with guests to customize tipples, can riff off-menu from hundreds of options, and aims to create a European street-bar feeling of being genuinely taken care of; the menu will rotate about every 12 weeks. Open Wednesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to midnight, Farmacia bills itself as Boston’s tiniest full-service cocktail bar and emphasizes continuity and bespoke service rather than passwords or theatrical tricks." - Stephanie Carter

Came here for the apres ski tasting menu and had a blast! Staff was very understanding when we were running late due to traffic. The four courses of the cocktails were all well balanced, unique, and delicious. In comparison to extra dirty, there's a little bit less food but there was still food with each course. The ending with the shotski was not expected! But so fun.

What a beautiful night it was! It was our first time at Farmacia. We had been trying to get a spot for so long, and we were excited to go after our experience at the Extra Dirty Club which is their sister location. Our bartender was so kind and friendly. Even when I broke a glass, she didn’t mind and immediately made a new drink! The cocktails were phenomenal. Three and a half strong ones and a little shot as a nightcap. We were there for three hours, had so much fun, and even made new friends with the group next to us! Such lovely people, great atmosphere, and an excellent experience. Absolutely recommend!

Beautiful space and an ambitious concept, but ultimately underwhelming for the price point. At $85 per person for 3.5 drinks (roughly $24 per cocktail if you don't count the popcorn and hotdog snack), the experience didn’t quite measure up to similar priced cocktail programs that myself and my husband have been to in other major cities and countries. The drinks were very nice, with quality ingredients and a well-thought out theme, but the service felt a bit short. When invited to ask questions, the bartender’s responses came off curt and flippant. For most similarly priced intimate and small cocktail bars, we've had the pleasure of being explained the thought behind a concept for a drink (how the ingredients were chosen, why they can work well together, how do the flavors complement) without having the need to ask or initiate as the patron. In contrast, after choosing a drink, they were just placed down as the bartender walked away to do something else or have a drink themselves. It just seemed that for a website that claims a "curated cocktail experience" the actual "experience" portion was lacking. However, if that's not what you are looking for or expecting, the drinks themselves were tasty and had a good flavor profile, with quality liquors and mixtures of flavors. If so, you will enjoy your experience.

We booked a private event for ten people and it was absolutely awesome. Phil developed a menu for us, gave us some extremely delicious high end (and healthy!) snacks to eat (think a perfect orzo, tomato, and cuke salad, fresh grilled pita and a garlic dip, etc), and just a dizzyingly wonderful array of cocktail options. Everyone in our group found choices the loved. And Phil and Ada were fantastic hosts. I will be booking a holiday party next! The location is super charming as well. If you love craft cocktails, make this a destination.

This is hands down my favorite experience in all of Boston. If you like cocktails, craft food service, and are into immaculate vibes this can’t be missed. Though reservations can be tough to snag, there is nothing more worth it. We’ve gone twice and I can’t wait to return again, both times we had such an amazing evening. Perfect for any date night, celebration, or girls night out for a couple friends. Drinks are beyond, staff is so knowledgeable and kind, and the entire experience is top notch. If I had to suggest one event in Boston this would be my first go to.

Phil was absolutely amazing and Sky was Top Shelf! Drinks were the most delicious and tasty we have had!

Best drinks and vibes in the city short of Extra Ditty Cocktail Club and of course Parla. Can’t recommend it enough. But good luck getting a reservation. Generally speaking you cannot just walk in here.

We’ve now been twice. The most recent chapter South Korean Seoul was awesome. The drinks hit the spot and the bites were great as well. I was a big fan of the sweet and sour. But the Dalgona coffee was outstanding, I already want to go back.
