Turin, Italy, Travel Guide

"In a former pharmacy attached to the restaurant, this café’s terrace is where I settle in when the weather cooperates, a charming perch for lingering between courses or cocktails." - Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz is a writer and editor based in Rome. "Del Cambio is the historic restaurant in Turin, the jewel in Piedmont’s crown and an address that has few equals in the whole of Europe. Here, the meticulously restored Risorgimento room, with origins that date back to the 18C, features a decor and furnishings that are almost entirely from the 19C. The creaking parquet flooring, also original, accompanies your entry into this historic setting: Cavour had his own window table here to watch over the Palazzo Carignano, the first parliament of the newly united Italy. Another room (Pistoletto), simpler and more informal in feel, can be found behind its more historic sibling. The traditional cuisine has a few modern twists, while the extraordinary wine list (including by the glass) will delight wine-enthusiasts, especially with its choice of Barolo and Barbaresco labels." - Michelin Inspector

9 of the Best Italian Desserts to Eat on Your Next Trip - AFAR

"An elegant bar/pasticceria inside a pharmacy that dates back to 1833, Farmacia del Cambio in Turin serves bonet; the service is described as brusque, but it’s one of the best places to try this Piedmontese chocolate pudding." - Laura Itzkowitz

An iconic place with fantastic quality of pastry and warm drinks. Whatever you order here will be at the highest standard of the Piedmont cuisine. Service is very professional and efficient. However, keep in mind that the demand is very high, especially for their most popular pastry. Therefore, aim to come early if you want to taste it.

This popular café is located in a charming old pharmacy building, which gives it a unique and beautiful atmosphere. Unfortunately, their famous croissants were sold out when I visited, but the other desserts were tasty and well-presented. The coffee, however, was a bit disappointing - too bitter for my taste. I also had to wait about 10 minutes in line before getting inside. Still, the cozy interior and pleasant vibe make it worth a visit, especially for dessert lovers.

Waiting in the queue- not worth it. Thanks God we came early and didn’t have to wait. Drinks are okay, food looks nice but taste so so I wouldn’t say I would come there again . great for tourists and one time try. Strange that the kitchen cooks not so many croissants to make it a dining place through the day.- not only your morning breakfast. When we came another time at 11:30, there was no croissants left at all- but if you go inside and see the kitchen through the window- you would be amazed how big it is and it’s strange. They’re not using it to make food through the day. I mean sweet dishes.

I was the second time here, the same ignorant personal. Even if we have arrived in the morning to be sure there are still the cubes, outside were about 6 places free but we were still waiting for the waitress that were very “busy” pretending to have a lot of work to invite us to a table. Again when we decided what to order, they were too “busy” again just walking without doing anything. As the tables werent cleaned after other curstomers, were pigeons coming on the tables, that they are not cleaning them that well after that. Asking inside where is the toilet was such a a very disturbing question for them. The sweets were good, but not that exceptional.

Yeah it’s quite chaotic and you have to wait a long time to sit down and to get served. But they have a system for serving so just need to be patient. The Cubo is cute but not super tasty. But man, the croissant alla crema is the business! So much crema! Went twice during our time in Turin. For weekdays, most items sell out before 1030am.

The worst matcha latte I have ever had. I have been drinking matcha latte here for several years. And everything was perfect. Waiter named Rober was totally inpolite, pretended not to understand what matcha latte is. I had to explain three times and after that he said to me “Take it easy”. Later he appeared with this dink ( see on the photo) which was not matcha latter at all. It was boiling milk with a bit of matcha powder on the top. The milk was so hot, that I couldn’t keep the glass. I am absolutely disappointed with the service, with the total unprofessionalism of the waiter Rober and the person who made this disgusting drink. I would recommend the owners to invest in the staff and its professional skills. Awful.

Beautiful historic building turned into a modern day cafe. Amazing selection of pastries, including cube and sphere croissants filled with delicious crèmes. Highly recommended as a stop when you are going to the nearby museum!

We went twice, once in the afternoon and once in the morning for the cubed croissant. The cubed croissants are fun, but honestly not really worth it. The desserts, on the other hand, are much better, especially the gianduiotto, which was amazing. The bicerin was also nice, though it didn’t taste much different from other places. Overall, a bit more pricey compared to other café in the city
