The Best Restaurants in Burlington, Vermont - Eater Boston

"The name speaks for this food truck and bar, which launched in 2015. From late May to October the truck parks dockside at Burlington Harbor Marina. Bikers and boaters can watch the sunset while enjoying a weekly seasonal menu, including items like fresh Maine lobster in brown butter on brioche rolls, Boyden Farm cheesesteaks, and Lake Champlain perch tacos." - Anna Darrow, Heather Platt

Okay first of all, going here for the view alone is worth it. The food is an added benefit. While not cheap, everything is fairly priced and very tasty. We had lobster roll, falafel, and truffle fries, and while everything was amazing, the fries stood out the most. If in town, use an evening of nice weather to take advantage of this spot!

Great views! The pork tacos were a disappointment-serious lack of overall flavour. The scallop ceviche was basically some scallops in water with bell peppers-0 acidity whatsoever, and presented in a tiny portion (basically 2 bites for a toddler) with a half a pound of tortilla chips. Sadly, I never got served the truffle fries, yet I was still charged-had to remind the staff to remove it off the bill. Not worth the price at the end of the meal despite the rave reviews...

Google
You are paying for the ambiance and the most gorgeous lake side views. The place itself is small, get there early! All outdoor seating, mostly shaded and if it’s sunny, you can always request an umbrella. The food itself was good, but mostly expensive and frankly overpriced. The Philly Cheesesteak was well portioned and full of flavor. The lobster roll was good but dry and small. I wasn’t a fan of the Mediterranean quinoa salad, but thats just my personal taste. The pork shoulder tacos were 2 small tacos for $13?

A food truck next to the marina = great food in a perfect setting. This was my favorite meal/food in Burlington. Viewing the boats come and go was the cherry on top. It rained lightly while we were there, but they have table umbrellas and a large party umbrella to keep

Google
Didn’t try their drinks but their $18 pita with frozen falafel from Restaurant Depot was on the bad side and really skimpy. The only dish we liked was the truffle fry. Condiment selection wasn’t good for a place that charges $16 for two tacos 🥴 the view is ok but you have to be really drunk to overlook the food

Google
Excellent food. Food may be a little more expensive compared to some spots downtown, but you’re paying for high quality food with a fantastic view. Ample shade is provided for patrons, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Will be returning a few more times this summer

Google
Beautiful location at the dock on Lake Champlain. Food was delicious and a nice selection of beers/cocktails available! I got the soft shell crab sandwich and it was tasty. My wife got the fried chicken sandwich which had great flavor!

Google
Beautiful place to stop for a quick bite on Lake Champlain! I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and it tasted super fresh. My husband got the soft crab sandwich and he loved it. Craft beers were delish. View definitely took the win! Left no crumbs 😋

Yelp
Definitely exceeded my expectations and the food served was delicious and generously portioned- thank goodness because the only downside was the price point but you're paying for the views etc. it's definitely a special night out kinda thing.

Yelp
What a gem! A darling food truck just off the marina. There are tents/tables to sit at and everyone has a great view. The food was excellent! The staff friendly and helpful. I'm so happy we stopped by,

Yelp
We were fortunate to catch Farmers & Foragers dockside during our trip to Vermont. We loved being able to get a bite to eat with a view of the waterfront. They were easy to find and had a cute tented setup with string lights. We came at around noon on Wednesday and made it before people a small rush of people started trickling through. Because it was the end of the season, there were some items from the menu that we couldn't order. My husband ordered the Lobster Roll and I got the Vermont Cheesesteak. Both came with Deep River potato chips and a pickle. I tried my husband's Lobster Roll and it was buttery and delicious. The Vermont Cheesesteak was awesome though! Very filling! Roll was soft and good filling to bread ratio. Service was efficient and friendly. Food solid. Views top notch. Overall great experience!

Yelp
Great spot, great view, great vibe, great food, great drinks! This food truck in the marina is such a cute place to grab a drink and some food with a water view. Walk up and order food/drink at the bar. They bring it to your table. It comes out pretty quick- even when they are busy. The lobster roll was the best. Pricey but they usually are. The chicken sandwich wasn't that great. Not a ton of protein on it, at all. But the views, drinks, and lobster roll make this place.

Yelp
This place has beautiful views, great service and amazing food. I ordered the lobster roll and it was so delicious. It was buttery and fresh, everything a lobster roll should be!!! Highly recommend.

Yelp
We heard this place was pretty good and it was a very short walk from our Airbnb so we decided to come by, have some dinner and a few cocktails and watch the sunset. Walking up, you order from the counter (but you can leave your tab open so that's a plus) and they bring you your food and check on you periodically. The condiment/self service station was nice with many an item to dress your meal/drinks up with. Our cocktails were pretty strong and tasted great. After two, I was glad we walked here cause I was pretty gimLIT (the name of my first cocktail here.) The food is great. Good portion sizes with great flavor. Those lake perch tacos were everything and I would love to come back again and have more. The fried chicken sandwich was great and I loved the fresh pickles on it. They don't make the desserts but we had a brown butter plum tart...chef's kiss!!! Good food, strong drinks and the sunset? What could be better than that?

Yelp
What's not to love about this place? Their lobster roll was perfection: fresh lobster, perfectly grilled roll, butter and chives. That's it. The restaurant is essentially a food truck with a tent over it and some tables and chairs. When we showed up just after 11 on Sunday, a handful of the tables were taken. By Noon, it was nearly full. I only wish they'd been open on Monday so we could have returned. Farmers and Foragers is truly one of the state's best restaurants and a perfect encapsulation of Vermont's appeal: nature in its simplest form.

Yelp
Nice location by the water. I got the fish tacos and they were delicious. The service is nice and quick too. It's in more of a quiet area though.

Yelp
Cool spot for a meal right by the lake with amazing views. Staff is pretty friendly. Food and drinks are pretty good. I got the lobster roll, which was good but I would have preferred the original lobster roll style with cold meat, Mayo and chives. This roll was a bit plain.
google avatar

Yelp
Great location waterside! Food is decent, portions are on the smaller side. I think the drinks are premixed. Ok service.
google avatar

Yelp
The lobster roll was an unsuccessful interpretation of the traditional Maine style lobster roll. Lobster rolls are one of my favorite part of Maine and Vermont trips. This one was my least favorite yet. I suppose I could manage to enjoy the different spice combination and additional ingredients if I forgot about my expectations for the traditional recipe but I could not get over the obscene amount of butter dripping from it.

Yelp
This place was absolutely fantastic! As an out of stater I was looking for some awesome seafood by the lake and this place did not disappoint. The staff was incredibly welcoming and checked on us throughout. And of course the food was to die for. I had the lobster roll and perch tacos and both were absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommend the spicy Marg too! 5 stars!

Brandon G.

Yelp
Phenomenal food! Lobster Roll, Cheese Steak, Pork Tacos, all incredibly tasty! Beautiful view right on the water. Visited on a Thursday evening at 5pm and plenty of available tables but by 5:30pm there was a line waiting.

Yelp
So...you're 100% paying for the "vibe" and the convenience of having a restaurant on the dock. It's good if you have a boat because you can utilize the bar all day. It's not a place I would recommend for locals. More of a place you to take your friends from out of town or something if you want to "show" them the marina. Or maybe if you're a seasonal visitor and you want to say you experienced the lake. Idk. Something like that. All in all, it wasn't BAD...if you're into the whole $10 for an Andre based mimosa in an 8oz plastic solo cup and your whole meal on paper plates kind of thing. If I had one word: gentrified...a gentrified food truck.

Yelp
First time here! It was peaceful and delightful. Self serve place. You will show up they'll give you a menu and you order and the bar. You pick up your food at the counter and enjoy. There are beautiful views. And the food is hand crafted and seriously delicious. Bring good company grab a good bottle of wine and enjoy family style it's the way to go!

Sabrina P.

Yelp
Super yummy food and very friendly staff! This is like a food truck-meets-patio dining. While you do order at a counter and pick up your own food, you feel like you're at a restaurant and the staff comes around and checks on you. We had truffle fries, fried chicken sandwich, and steak and cheese, and they were all amazing. We dipped our truffle fries in whatever aioli they had at their condiment/toppings station and I'd like to die in it. So yummy. Our cocktails were small but boozy. It is a little pricey but very good food with a great view of the marina, and we were on vacation so we didn't mind.

Maggie K.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food, amazing view, and great atmosphere. The staff are super attentive, friendly, and helpful if you're torn about what to order. I had the pork tacos, which are arguably the best I've had in my life. That's right; you heard me correct all you Taco Gordo lovers! Highly recommend this restaurant, but definitely try to get in early as things sell out super fast!!

Yelp
Completely and unnecessary overpriced, nice views though and decent food selection. Two small pumpkin blossoms for $18 and $34 lobster roll were not worth the money.

Yelp
We've enjoyed Farmers & Foragers at Truck Stop in the past, and are so thrilled that they have a space at the marina. Food, drinks, and service are top-notch. We are happy to support local businesses (especially now), and this one deserves applause. They are always super accommodating about dietary restrictions, and do so without sacrificing taste (pro tip - if you are gluten-free, go for brunch & order a Benny over potatoes.) We'll be back soon!

Yelp
4/5 stars for the quality and taste of the food 2/5 stars for everything else. The current process setup for ordering is slow and inefficient. When we finally got to order, I figured we'd be able to sip on our drinks while we waited for our to-go food (because wait was going to be 1-1.5 hrs even though 5+empty tables), however we were brought our drinks after we got our food....huge bummer. ADDITIONALLY, the $13 drink was not even good. I'm not a bartender and can make a better tasting one in my own home. It was bitter and lacked flavor or any sweetener ....As for food, I got the bahn mi, which I had high hopes for. The serving size was sufficient and the taste was good and you could tell it was all fresh ingredients however there was more hoagie bun than filling and it took over the entire sandwich. My friend got the cold ramen noodle dish which I had a few bites of and was excellent. Overall I was very disappointed and underwhelmed with the experience.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible business, and owners. They were supposed to cater our wedding, which couldn't happen because of pandemic complications. While all of our other vendors were extremely helpful, accommodating and gracious Farmers & Foragers ended up taking thousands of dollars from us without providing any services in return. This is not how a Vermont community business should behave and I would strongly caution against patronizing them.

Yelp
Managed to stop by here before they closed for the season and got their fish tacos. Was not disappointed! Maybe the only place ive ever seen serving lake perch, so huge props for that. The tacos themselves were pretty good. Fish was crispy, Not overly sauced (like street tacos often are) and the tortillas held up well. That paired with the view of the lake made the whole experience even better. Definitely will come here again!

Yelp
We have been twice in the last two weeks. The view of the lake is fantastic AND the food and drinks were great. I had the fish tacos both times and the truffle fries. My friends were impressed with the lobster roll. Great place on a nice day. We will be back often this summer

Yelp
Farmers and Foragers were amazing! They provided the food for our wedding. The food was wonderful, every guest commented on that. We had pulled pork sliders, butternut squash tacos, watermelon Gazpacho, perch po' boys, and truffle fries. I usually don't really like fries, but theirs was amazing. During the wedding planning process they let us design our menu, while giving suggestions. They also provided alcohol and had a lot of wine and beer that was unique and local. Their service during the wedding was great. There were never any really long lines, as many of the appetizers were walked around by staff or put out on tables prior to the wedding, and the staff was so cheerful and easy-going, while being professional. Every guest spoke very highly of the food and service. I would highly recommend them for a wedding.

Francesca M.

Yelp
Incredible food and awesome cocktails. The kimchi hotdog is one of my favorites along with the truffle fries. My friend was a little miffed at the picnic table-like set up (no tablecloths, disposable cutlery) but I like the laid back atmosphere - it's a food truck on the marina! Just one complaint. Normally the service is attentive and friendly but this particular waitress got our order wrong even though I corrected her twice. She also brought us fresh drinks (nothing here is cheap) then shuffled us away from our table because the next reservation had arrived. This is such a fun place normally - pricey but quality food, incredibly beautiful setting and (normally) great service make it worth it!

Stacie B.

Yelp
We had a wonderful brunch waterside at the Lake. The staff is friendly and the food was great! Bloody Mary's were on point! Highly recommend!!

Tim H.

Yelp
Update: I made a reservation to come back (month since last visit) yesterday. I forgot to ask for a table on the outer edge of the tent this time, which we wanted so we could bring our dog. When I called back today to ask if that would be possible for the reservation this evening they said they had made a note under my phone number from our last visit and had already made the accommodation just in case. These guys are the best!

Yelp
This food truck has only five or six menu items at a time, but they pour their heart and soul into their cooking. Short wait times, though their website doesn't list a location.

Yelp
DO NOT USE THEIR WEBSITE TO ORDER FOOD. Sorry. This is going to be a bit of a rant. I had my 1st experience with Farmers & Foragers food truck Saturday night & it was bad. My mistake was pre-ordering fish tacos through their website at 2:00 for later that evening at 6:20. As expected, my credit card was charged & I received an order confirmation via email. I got to the truck a few minutes early & they were busy. That's a good sign, right? I was hungry, but in a good mood. Their sign said they were out of fish tacos. I was so glad I had pre-ordered. When my order was late, I asked at the truck if my food was coming. No. BECAUSE THEY WERE OUT OF FISH TACOS! I said there must be some mistake because I placed my order hours ago. The truck guy said pre-orders don't work because they don't get the orders ahead of time. Huh? The truck sent me to a woman in the tent to sort it out. She checked with the truck & told me THEY WERE OUT OF FISH TACOS! That's it. She walked away. I said I'm still hungry. Can you get me something else? Exasperated, she got me coucous. Since it costs $2.00 less than fish tacos, I asked about a partial refund. I mean, that's fair. Surprised & even more exasperated, she said NO REFUND. Said I was lucky she didn't charge me more. Attitude problem? This was my fault? Seems it was. Because they called me at 6:10 while I was standing outside the truck to tell me THEY WERE OUT OF FISH TACOS, but I didn't answer because my phone was at my chair with my other stuff. The coucous was pretty good. I never will find out if their fish tacos are good. They made sure I'm not coming back. Only had good experiences with Burlington food trucks before that. By the way, I wasn't behaving like an arrogant drunken frat boy. I'm an older woman who was at the park to see a socially distanced outdoor film about John Lewis, the Civil Rights icon & U.S. Representative who died recently. Shout out to VTIFF (Vermont International Film Festival) for the film.

Yelp
As good as it gets! Farmers and Foragers was our bar service for our wedding and they did not disappoint. We were planning a wedding from the west coast and unable to meet Sol and Kelsey in person or try the cocktails beforehand. To us, this didn't matter after one phone call with Sol. He put our minds at ease. Everything from locally sourced beers and wines to custom crafted cocktails (which ended up being a HUGE hit), to the mocktail station: everything was killer. Thank you Farmers and Foragers!

Abbey H.

Yelp
Talk about unique and delicious! Out of all the food trucks in the Burlington area, this one takes top billing. Soft shell crab, truffle fries & BBQ pulled chicken tacos. What more could you ask for? They're food is fresh and delicious options and the service is awesome. Can't wait to return!

Lauren C.

Yelp
Some of the best truffle fries I have ever had. The person next to me got the Vermont cheesesteak and that looked amazing, I can't wait to try it. The people who work here are great too, so friendly!
