The Best Breakfast and Brunch Restaurants in Eugene, Oregon | Eater Portland

"There always seems to be a bit of a line at this sprawling Market District coffee shop. Farmers Union is a full-fledge roaster that pairs its espresso drinks with a brief but robust cafe menu that includes options like avocado toast, a VLT (tempeh bacon, lettuce, and tomato jam) sandwich, paninis, and pastries. But the real star of the show is the biscuit breakfast sandwich; worthy of champions everywhere, it comes on a crisp yet buttery biscuit stacked with eggs, melty cheese, and pork sausage." - Brenna Houck

When I moved out of Eugene, I missed Farmer’s Union so much. Every single item on their menu- both food and drinks is never a miss. Lattes, mochas, matcha, chai, the breakfast sandwiches, the yogurt granola fruit compote bowl. The interior of the space is also a beautiful old farmhouse reused as the coffee house. The space is perfect for meeting with a friend, getting work done (fyi there aren’t many tables near electric outlets so try to bring your device charged in advance), or simply chilling and taking in the tastes. Everyone is always so nice, but where in Eugene are people not, lol. Love love love 100/10 recommend.

Google
They have a nice rotation on their drink specials. Good selection of treats and bulk coffee. A little loud atmosphere but still able to keep a conversation. Hard to find a seat. Open till 5pm is nice.

Keith Prive

Google
Spacious coffee roaster boasting superb coffee and spot-on pastries. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting - the type of place that you could spend hours in with friends or reading a good book. The staff was friendly and the service was fast. I also love the fact that they’re open from 6am-5pm during the week. To put it simply, Farmer’s Union Coffee Roasters is everything that a locally owned coffee roaster should strive to be.

Google
This place seems to be very interested in coffee extraction! 😊 Although they have very nice espresso machines, grinders, and even do their own roasting, the taste varies each time due to the lack of a consistent extraction manual. Adjusting the water temperature and controlling the extraction speed before brewing could help maintain a consistent flavor. Despite some shortcomings, the atmosphere is great, and I recommend visiting!”

Google
Great service! It can get really noisy around lunchtime. Lots of tables but not enough power outlets. The wifi is slow but good enough for zoom calls. The only thing I've had here is the jasmine tea which is pretty good. Lots of vegan options. Bathroom always seems to have a line. There's free parking in the lot.

Google
This was a lovely place to find for breakfast. All food items were outstanding and the coffee was nice. The blackberry scone and biscuit sandwich were the best. The atmosphere was laid back and welcoming, and the drip coffee contraption was impressive.

Google
Being from out of town, I came in here with fresh eyes, looking for fresh beans, but with no expectations. I was pleasantly surprised once I was inside. It's a unique interior feel, industrial, with high ceilings, lots of light and an open feel to it. Very busy with most tables being used, but once I had my drip, (Cultivator Blend) served up, I found a spot. The coffee was delicious and the mug... solid and heavy. Just the way I like it! An added perk here, is that once you have your cup, it's just a few steps over to the Mt Rose Mercantile right next door for some "amped up" herb browsing! The pallets stacked high with large jute bags of fresh Brazilian beans was a nice touch as well. My coffee was delicious and I enjoyed my time there, especially sitting out front with the warm sun shining down on me.

Google
Giving one star out of nostalgia because I've been coming here FOREVER and it used to be my favorite cafe in Eugene. Service has taken a massive nosedive and food/coffee quality has become wildly inconsistent. Thankfully Eugene has many more (superior) cafe options now, so I wouldn't advise wasting your money or time here unless you enjoy being treated rudely by snotty baristas.

Yelp
All hail the undisputed breakfast sandwich king. Probably debatably best coffee roaster in Eugene as well. Seriously the biscuit on the sandwich is insanely good. Btw: Yelp elite is hysterical. Go read the review by the chick that doesn't like coffee

Yelp
I can never remember the name of this place. which might seem like a terrible idea but it's not. it's amazing and I wish I could keep it all to myself. but it's so great that other people have already found about it. grab a coffee or a latte or an anything because it's terrific. do not get the bagels. especially into buy them before 11 because I don't get there until 11:30 and I'd like some to be left when I get there. in short, this place is wonderful, it looks good. everything tastes great and I wish I was the only person who knew. but that probably wouldn't be helpful to their business model. so take a friend. they'll love it too and hopefully take another friend.

Yelp
Best breakfast sandwich I have ever had from a coffee shop! I also had a specialty iced latte that was superb. Ambience was top tier. Seriously, it is such a vibe. Service was good - the woman at the counter was really helpful.
google avatar

Aesha E.

Yelp
It was ok. For me it doesn't work, but if you're a coffee person I'll bet it's a good spot. They just focus on coffee and high quality coffee, but don't have a lot (that I could tell, anyway) for non-coffee drinkers. Which I am. I had a cookie though and it was good and service was friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Love the aesthetics and unique coffee options (miso caramel latte). The lattes are a little on the sweet side for me but that's all preference. The biscuit sandwich was delicious and made with fresh homemade biscuits. I would definitely recommend if you're in the area!

Yelp
What's not to like? Good coffee, some eats (some gluten free and vegan), places to sit and hanging, free self serve water and a restroom down the hall. If you're shopping at Down To Earth, Mountain Rose, or another place nearby, check it out.

Yelp
"True love is like little pink roses, sweet, and fragrant in small doses." Sipping, early morning dawn lighting spilling over the floor through large, yet unobtrusive windows facing W 5th Ave. The roar of espresso, steaming, wafting ahead. Chatter, chairs shifting, workers hustling, laughter. It was a delightful morning, created by a wonderful atmosphere, kind service and delicious coffee! Do try the Rose honeycomb latte...you will be amazed!

Yelp
Not sure why this place isn't a 5 star.. Anywhoo.. I order a iced vanilla latte and a breakfast sandwich w/ pork sausage. The latte was soo flavorful you can tell they take pride in what they are serving. High quality coffee for sure. The sammy was masssive! They do no skimping at the Farmers Union. The sausage tasted very good I'm usually very picky with that and the biscuit was crunchy and nice and soft on the inside. Definitely coming back with someone so they can be as obsessed as me

Yelp
This was the perfect breakfast spot for the morning. As my first coffee shop in Eugene I was quite pleased and it's clear that much of the locals are too as it was very popular! Drinks: the Padovana latte was delicious! With notes of cardamom, orange, and honey, the sweet and citrus complimented the dark coffee flavors excellently. The latte had some sort of orange zest on the top which was a beautiful aesthetic touch. Food: the breakfast sandwich tasty albeit not what I was expecting. The biscuit was very "well done." Not burnt but toeing the line as it was very crispy and not the soft toasted biscuit that I was expecting (still good, just a different flavor profile!) the egg was also in an interesting form. I'm not quite sure what to call it. It was almost an egg "hash"? But the sandwich clearly used real beef in it which as a great touch Great, comfortable seating seating. Although not enough outlets for plugging in work computers etc.

Yelp
My review should be a 2 for service, a 4 for ambience and coffee. Being graduation week in Eugene we knew it would be busy at any coffee house we would visit and we were correct. However that does not justify poor service. The person at the register has a total deadpan face and when I inquired about getting a bag for the $50 of merchandise I purchased from their shop I was given a blank stare. While waiting for my order another staffer looked at me and said in a snooty manner "I'd like to inject that we really don't do bags here". Ok then. However when my son purchased merchandise he was immediately offered a complimentary cup of coffee (which I was not). I chose not to say anything as I envisioned a not kind response. Additionally I overheard the baristas saying it was so busy they had no idea what they were making. The interior and outdoor area of this place is charming and offered lots of seating. The gift shop had some really cool items as well. My coffee beverage was great and my daughter said her chai was amazing. I don't typically have a biscuit but took a bite of my sons and it was one of the best I've had. I wished I'd ordered it instead of the somewhat dry frittata I had. I do hope management reads this review regarding the service as it greatly impacted our experience. We spent over $100 and left with a somewhat bitter taste. And it was my birthday which I dared not mention. Disappointing experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Drip coffee not too bad. Service is good and baristas are friendly. There are many options to fit your taste and they can customize for you as well. Ambiance is of an old library feel. Like college again.

Yelp
Wait, I haven't reviewed this cafe yet? Farmers Union was recommended to me when I first moved to Eugene as the place to get a good craft latte. It's now become one of my favorite spots. First, the coffee beans are roasted in the shop. The roaster is there a few days a week and always friendly with customers when he's not busy. I had the chance to talk with him and he's a really nice guy who loves coffee as much as I do. Lol. Maaaybe more. Next, the lattes are always tasty. They use quality ingredients along with their house roasted beans. I love the lavender latte with oat milk or a classic vanilla latte with almond milk. For food, they have a couple of vegan options which I'm super grateful for! And they're good too. The perfect small bite if you're hanging around for a while. That brings me to my last point, the ambiance, or as we say these days, the vibes. I love the energy of this place. It's great for studying, working, reading, or meeting with a friend! It's always busy but never soo packed that I can't find a seat... maybe that's why I've been holding off on this review. Don't go stealing the last table now ;)
google avatar

Yelp
The oat milk vanilla latte was 4/5 Pistachio pastry was 5/5 Good vibes and great ambiance. I'd recommend and I would go again for the same things I ordered! There's some seating to sit and enjoy. Parking is minimal for this strip.

Yelp
This is such a fun place to visit and grab a coffee/bite! It has its own unique ambiance with a breakfast/lunch menu made perfect for a local coffeehouse. The breakfast sandwich is delicious! It may sit heavy in your tummy as it is so rich and buttery, but tasty is an understatement! It is often crowded on weekend mornings, making it difficult to find a place to sit, but I just grab my coffee and sammy to go, opting for standing outside or taking it home. Also, their bagged beans are perfect for home brewed PNW coffee lovers!

Suzanne S.

Yelp
The coffee is only ok, the biggest problem is there is no where to sit. All tables are used by computer users. One person at 2-4 seating tables. It's not fun to try and meet a friend for a chat and cup of coffee. The music is loud and not pleasant to listen to on occasion. Lots of better places to relax with a friend and a nice cup of coffee. Owner is not that nice.

Yelp
Is there any where else to get BETTER COFFEE! If you're thinking this before coming here...the answer is NO! I have been to over 20 coffee shops since moving here 7 months ago. This place is the BEST. AMAZING COFFEE. LOW ACID AND truly great beverage. I ordered the Oak Milk Latte with vanilla. It's was perfection. Thank you. The service was impeccable and fast. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and it was epic. I saw someone else order it and asked for the same thing. I'm so glad I did. It was so above and beyond. Homemade biscuit/croissant type thing filled with sausage, eggs & cheese. Add Chaluala hot sauce and wow so so delicious and made to order. I can't wait to go back soon.

Yelp
I was going to Morning Glory aka pure veg brunch spot that I love yet line was super long and wait likely exceeded 40 min so was going to head out of town. I got turned on to this spot by my Lyft driver and so glad I did. This cozy cafe has amazing vegetable forward vegan sandwiches. I went with the V and H aka in house made hummus sandwich with heaps of amazing Pacific NW grown veggies on whole wheat sourdough and opted to have it with a mixed green salad. It hit the spot. It was tasty and healthy. Recommended!

Yelp
I really want to love this place, but something about it is just off to me. I've come to Farmers Union a few times, both short and long visits and there's always something left to be desired, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe I'm not trendy enough. The interior is welcoming and lit by the large windows. There is a good amount of seating options, including some small tables outside if the weather is agreeable, and the WiFi is strong. It's usually always busy when I've come in, so if you are not a fan of communal tables, you'd have to time it right to nab one of the smaller ones. I do feel the coffee is a bit on the expensive side but I suppose a more educated coffee lover may argue otherwise citing quality. The service is typically nice but maybe a little too cool and aloof for me. I would recommend you try Farmers Union Coffee Roasters because it is apparent so many folks love it, and you might too! Just not for me.
google avatar

Grace N.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich is as good as everyone says it is, just a touch dry but that's how I feel about most every biscuit so it can't really be helped, super savory and rich. I only wish it had something that added a little acidity to cut through it all. The hojicha is good, rosecomb latte was a good coffee but I couldn't taste the rose or the honeycomb in it. However! Their iced lavender latte is one of the only lavender lattes I've tried that actually tastes like lavender even when cold and that alone is enough for me to keep visiting. Simple drink but literally no coffee shop does it right and drinking their lavender latte was a light in the darkness. Nice people, it's just always crowded because it's everyone's favorite and a line out the door is a common sight. But I still think it's worth it.

Yelp
Only 4 stars as I'm not a coffee drinker. I do enjoy their foods and the green tea matcha.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
Cute spot with tons of healthy options. Very Oregon. Thought my Matcha was tasty but definitely not hit enough. The little outside area is adorable.

Tyler M.

Yelp
Great food, coffee and places to relax! Friendly stew too! Nice ambiance. I have to add more but there's nothing more to say lol

Yelp
cute place and cute little area, there's plenty of seating inside the cafe and some outside!

Yelp
It's like a coffee Disneyland. Excellent coffee and baked goods and the bustle and vibe of the local University of Oregon.

Yelp
I came to Farmers Union looking for a nice place to study and I wasn't disappointed! Their setup in this warehouse space makes for a surprisingly cozy cafe! It was really cute and fostered a great atmosphere for getting work done! I will say I think $10.50 is way too much to pay for a grilled cheese though. The sandwich was okay but not really worth that much money. Their latte, on the other hand, was great and steamed to a perfect temperature to be drinkable immediately which I loved! The staff were polite enough and clearly care about dedication to the coffee craft. This latte looked and tasted gorgeous! I'll definitely be back for another study sesh sometime soon :)

Yelp
Best in town! Obsessed with the miso caramel latte, super unique and tasty. I also love their croissants, how do they get them so flaky?!
google avatar

Karla B.

Yelp
Food-3.5/5 Drink-4/5 Coffee shop was cute. Service was good. Biscuit Breakfast sandwich was okay. Drink was also okay. Talked to many and they put this as a top place to get coffee in Eugene so maybe my expectations were too high? Not sure, but I was underwhelmed. I wouldn't rate this place a 4/5 but it's closer to that than a 3/5.
google avatar

andrea s.

Yelp
Extremely attentive and amazing baristas! They do welcome you and are knowledgeable on their coffee. I personally love strong coffee or even strong lattes and this place got it! My latte was fresh! This place has a big seating area but one thing to keep in mind is that they only have bathroom for costumers. During the weekends it can be a bit busy but even then, everyone seems to be working like a team and getting those drinks out quickly. Loved this place!
google avatar

Madeline P.

Yelp
This place is really lovely. From the ambiance inside to the shops next door, this coffee shop is one of my favorite places to recommend. I'm not sure what it is (probably magic), but something about their oat milk lattes is some of the best coffee I've ever had, and I'd like to think I've tried a lot of varieties!! This is a place where I can take a deep breath and just be, or, I bring my laptop and type up emails or work on whatever. I wasn't even scared to ask for the WiFi password because everyone here is really kind:') Big fan of Farmers Union

Sandy M.

Yelp
I had an oat milk latte and vegan biscuits and gravy. They were really good! The ambiance of the place is really cozy and great spot of studying or meeting up for coffee.
google avatar

Yelp
Farmers union is lovely. With a focus on supporting and honoring farmers, the taste and quality of their coffee reglectly entirely the energy and intention put into making it. On top of that, their staff are all very welcoming and their inside & outside atmosphere is the perfect spot to work and have meetings, go on a date, or meet up with friends! ily fu

Vanessa G.

Yelp
Cool place. But I guess I stayed too long and got a $42 PARKING TICKET in THEIR parking lot! That more than doubled what I spent there. Sorry, you're not the only coffee shop in town. I'll NEVER be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Located in Eugene Oregon a short walk away from the Graduate Hotel where I was staying. This place was a hidden gem of a coffee house. As soon as you walk in you will know you are in a locally brewed atmosphere with all the roasting aroma to back it up representing a laid back Oregon vibe. Lots of different places to sit to have a meeting, catch up with friends, or just sit and enjoy your cup of Joe or meet Joe like me. Joe was busy processing the coffee they make and explained the different varieties of beans and blends offered. They also have a nice selection of breakfast items like scones, muffins, and sandwiches. Had the muffin and it was the perfect pairing with my latte. Hearty and full of fruit you could tell it was made with care. Fair is fair and come and give this place a try. Purchase a bag of coffee and get a cup of coffee with that purchase, a nice touch!
google avatar

Yelp
Very friendly people and tasty vittles! They have a beautiful working coffee roaster. The person operating it was extremely nice and ran me through the entire process. Great environment inside and out, nestled in a cozy enclave.
google avatar

Yelp
Eugene, Oregon After leaving another coffee shop with disappointing beverages we were fortunate to find this place. Exceptionally brewed espresso, and perfectly concocted lattes. Flavor was rich and bold with a hint of dark roasted bitterness. The blonded crema rose nicely through the froth for a splendid presentation. We shall be back!

Ian M.

Yelp
Amazing coffee! Breakfast sandwich was very very good! Will for sure return when in Eugene Go Ducks!
google avatar

Toni A.

Yelp
1st time visit, my daughter recommended. I throughly enjoyed a cup of lavender latte. Perfect ration of their homemade syrup to coffee. Did not over power their delicious coffee!
google avatar

Tomas C.

Yelp
This is the best coffee shop in Eugene. I'm not sure the coffee itself is 5 stars, but 4.5 for sure. (I'm just not a freak about the finer points.) It's always busy, always, which is good for everybody. It's also a cool community center, great bulletin board, lot's of cool people. I live downtown,so it works best for me. The roasters are too notch; I enjoy watching them work. The menu us good; the avocado toast, while a little pricey is my favorite breakfast in Eugene my sole (personal) complaint is that my coffee (double cap, or oat-milk latte so yes there's milk in there) is NEVER hot, and sometimes not even warm. It's really a drag. But I love this place; it's really part of my life.
google avatar

Selena F.

Yelp
First off, they do not have a kid play area...which was why we went there. Arrived at 11:30, the place was suuuuuper crowded. Loud and hard to find a spot to sit. The kid's steamer was perfectly warmed. My latte was pretty good. The grapefruit scone was okay...too much leavening
google avatar

Joana B.

Yelp
This was my first time at Farmers Union Coffee Roasters and I was not disappointed! It has the cutest aesthetic--pastel chairs, pink coffee roaster, and plants all around. It is also on the larger side which is nice, however, it quickly filled up with people working or doing homework (myself included). We got 2 food items (breakfast sandwich, breakfast burrito) and 2 drinks (iced vanilla latte, cappuccino) for $24. The drinks outshined the food for sure, but they were good as well. I was disappointed in the pastry selection, but that could have been due to our later arrival on a Sunday (10:30am). The service was great as well! Everything came out quickly despite how busy they were. Someone accidentally grabbed my drink from the pick up counter and the barista remade it right away for us. Overall, great coffee and great place to get some work done.
google avatar

Charlie M.

Yelp
good vibes diverse clientele great service excellent variety of drink choices including mainstream & alternative lots of parking off-street & nearby comfortable seating at large communal table & other smaller ones outdoor tables under awning in case of rain (it is Eugene after all) would love to see this type of coffee house throughout other PNW towns check it out - am I wrong?
google avatar

Gordon H.

Yelp
Good coffee - not bitter, not burnt - in the former Allann Brothers space. Much better coffee than Allann's. Lots of indoor space and a few outdoor tables.
google avatar

Candiace A.

Yelp
Good late and hot chocolate for my 3yo. I was a little disappointed though they got rid of the little kids play kitchen area that I saw in the pictures.
google avatar

Rachel D.

Yelp
Oh my gosh, YUM!! My gf lives in southern oregon for the year and I always fly into Eugene to visit her. Every time she drops me off at the airport, we stop at Farmers Union. The coffee is class and the breakfast sandwich is yummo! There is a good amount of seating in the space and they have a shared lot. The people who work there are friendly and it's always a joy to visit our favorite Eugene shop. This last time I got a mocha w oat and gf got vanilla oat latte. Both super yum.
google avatar

Lam K.

Yelp
You won't find a better coffee shop in the area. The place is amazing and has a unique taste. The vibe of the place is five stars. Service is good. The coffee is diffferent when compared to other places I've been to. I like the breakfast foods they ahve hre too. Alawys worth stopping by when I'm in the area
google avatar

Brenna H.

Yelp
Such an adorable coffee shop! We went here a bit before noon on a Tuesday on our way to a work trip. The place was very busy and almost all the seating was taken, but luckily it was a sunny day and we didn't mind enjoying it outside. I got an oat milk latte which was great. They sell pastries and some things like chocolates, coffee beans, etc. It's very cool that they roast the beans there. I watched and got to see the beans before they were roasted. The worker showed me some up close since I had never seen coffee beans before being roasted. It was really cool!
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
The latte her was super good. They make the drinks the perfect temperature. The veggie frittata was ok. Nothing special and it was cold. I feel like it would've been better warmed up. Same with the croissant. I liked it better than the frittata but it would've been better warmed up. The panini was the highlight. My partner loved it!

D W.

Yelp
The coffee and pastries are excellent. Was out of town of business and visited here all three mornings. Wish I could take this place home with me.
