Spotlight on Ireland's County Cork

"A friendly food store with a bakery, a rustic two-roomed restaurant and a courtyard terrace. Lunch might mean soup, a sandwich or a tart; dinner features regional fish and meats—the chargrilled steaks are popular. Cakes are served all day." - The MICHELIN Guide Nordic Editorial Team

Google
Very high quality food and really excellent staff. The only reason for a 4 star review is that the vegetarian options are very limited. Tonight there was only one vegetarian main option so no real choice. I have to say it was the most limited menu for vegetarians that I’ve seen in years. Overall an excellent experience as long as you eat meat.

A different vibe for fine dining but it was gorgeous - I love every bit of it! Had a small family dinner but it was worth it all. Such a beautiful place with amazing food and ambience. Highly recommended and is actually beyond expectations.

Great choice of baked goods for dessert and to go. Good food served in the restaurant too.

Google
SPOT ON! Open Ham sandwich on brown, pot of tea. How mundane is that? Like most people, I've eaten countless examples but none better than Midleton's Farmgate. Bread slightly warm from the oven, freshly washed leaves, sliced pickled cucumber and slivers of delicate red onion, hints of a complex dressing set the foundation for the main ingredient. Ham, slow cooked flavoursome ham, just perfect, sliced thinly, served at room temperature. Everything was just as it should be. All prepared in-house that morning I expect. No big hoo hah or self promotion, just ordinary things, done extraordinarily well. Not a hint of a “food service provider " here Service; professional and engaged.

Great place to stop if you're in the area visiting Middleton Distillery. Had some of the best lamb stew I've ever had, along with an apple tart & vanilla ice cream.

I had one of the nicest burgers I've ever had, highly recommended! (Went back for the burger a second time, still great!)

Yelp
You have to eat here. You HAVE to eat here. We were famished after a bit of a drive and the Jameson tour. This restaurant is about a 5 minute walk from there. You walk in and you feel right at home. You can tell that everything is made from scratch and most likely DOES come from a farm nearby. Hubs and I started with an incredibly creamy and delicious seafood chowder- studded with oodles of fresh fish, and then moved onto a Scallop Salad with bacon and other tasty morsels. So divine. Though we're not big dessert people, the Irish seem to love it and there is a huge table of desserts right in the front of the restaurant that beckons you. We caved and ordered the creamiest, most decadent and lovely lemon pie tart that I have ever had. I am pretty sure they must add cream to the filling just for fun. I mean, it's Ireland and they add cream to everything. So. good. Go here. Eat and be happy. Have dessert. You won't be sorry.

Yelp
The original of the species! This is where it all (i.e. the English Market's Farm Gate) started. Lovely local spot with great coffee (and refils), wholesome lunches and grrrreat deserts. There's a shop at the front of the cafe/restaurant selling the best of the best.

Yelp
I was surprised that this place didn't have many reviews. We were skeptical at first, but once I heard my husband stomach growling after the Jameson distillery experience I said we need to get something to eat. I had the seafood chowder and my husband had the meat lasagna with garlic bread. Both were delicious and the presentation was excellent. My husband could be very picky so I was surprised when he left the plate cleaned. Prices were decent and staff were very friendly.

Yelp
Excellent ambience, food, and service. My husband and I enjoyed sitting and eating a delicious and relaxing meal. I had the wild mushroom risotto and he has the seared steak and blue cheese salad. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Farmgate came highly recommended to us by a few individuals. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet the expectations set by friends. This was probably the worst service we've ever had at a higher end restaurant. After being seated next to a party of twelve table - we were pretty much ignored for the rest of our dining time. It took at least 15+ minutes for our table to be acknowledged by the wait staff because they were giving all of theirattentionn to the party of twelve. Once the waitress came to our table, she never asked for our drink order but went right to what we wanted to order for our meal. While the party of twelve received numerous drink and bread refills, we had to ask several times to get more water and bread. The food was ok - nothing outstanding. My husband and son ordered the 8 oz filet - my son's was approximately 8 oz.; while my husband's filet was more like 4 oz. When we finished our meal, again waiting 15-30 minutes while the other party of 12 was attended to - we had to ask for our check three times. Clearly, the party of 12 was a much more lucrative check than ours - I guess money is the bottom line. I realize every other review is glowing; however, I cannot in good conscience recommend Farmgate after such a disappointing experience.

Yelp
Fourteen of us came in last minute and ordered from the early supper menu. Amazing food. Super accommodating. Favorites were the chicken liver pate, pasta of the evening with salmon, and the monkfish scampi.

Yelp
We were looking for some traditional Irish meal and Farm gate was the best choice. We got delitious food and dessert as well. Everything was fresh and local. Service perfect. Prices normal. We can sincirely recommend it ! ;-)

Yelp
We were directed to Farmgate by someone who took the Jameson Experience Distillery tour with us and we couldn't have been more appreciative of the suggestion. There was a bit of wait to get in but once we were seated service moved pretty quickly. Their menu is packed with Irish comfort foods that are all done with local and fresh ingredients at very reasonable prices. I had the local sausages and mash with red onion gravy and I could have licked my plate clean it was so good. If we weren't all so full from lunch we would have sampled their many delicious looking desserts too. If you are in Midleton, this should be a destination for sure.

Yelp
It was a bit hard to find but worth the effort. The food was splendid and service was great . Will definitely go again!

Yelp
We stopped at Farmgate for lunch when travelling through Ireland. It was one of our favorite meals during the 2-week trip. The selection, quality and flavor of the food was.outstanding. The ambience was great and the servers were very friendly.

Yelp
I would give this restaurant a much higher score IF the prices were better. Great spot but it's much too expensive when the service is taken in to account. We paid 14 euros for 3 scallops. We each had steak, it was excellent. The service was fairly good, staff are attentive but don't seem very happy to be there.

Yelp
Great food, friendly helpful staff and lovely ambience. There were 7 of us for an anniversary meal ( one a 3 year old) . We ate early 6.30 because of the little one and were made very welcome. Three of the party had lamb and agreed it was the best we'd had in years. Desserts were delicious, the chocolate pie was worth every calorie. You have to visit but book ahead if possible!

Yelp
The atmosphere was lively and quaint. The food was divine especially the minestrone soup and warm scallop & bacon salad. Service is lovely. It can be very busy but you don't feel rushed.

Yelp
Delicious food and cozy ambience. Perfect lunch before or after the Jameson Experience tour. It's a short walking distance!

Yelp
We called in lunch time today beautifully decorated for Christmas, and spotlessly clean .l had rib eye steak with champ potatoes ,my husband had the grilled hake with champ potatoes. Both were delicious we will certainly call in again although it was getting very busy only a few seats in the (garden room)

Yelp
The food here is amazing. We came here for lunch after doing the Jameson distillery tour around the corner and were so happy we did. I had a chicken, brie, bacon quiche-like dish that came with a salad and garlic bread. I savored every last bite. I wish I had tried some of their homemade pastries, they also looked great.
