This was a great place for lunch. If you want to sit outside you might have a wait but the inside was available right away for lunch. The chicken sandwich was very flavorful with not a lot of heat. The carrots were not overwhelming. The waiter was very attentive and helpful.

First time visit for brunch. It was super busy (family weekend at NU) but the service was very good. Food all tasted a bit flavorless. I'd go again to try some different menu items.

This is a typical American food restaurant. The service was very good. Although we each had burgers, they were excellent.

We ordered food to go. I order my hamburger medium rare, it was beyond well done and super dry, the egg was raw, the onion jam was not tasty and they only send sauce for one person even when we ordered two burgers. My husband ordered no tomato and it came with 3 slices of tomato. Very poor quality.

I don’t think I’ve ever left a negative restaurant review but I was so disappointed by Farmhouse. My spouse ordered the burger medium, I ordered the steak medium rare. Both our meats were basically raw when served. The burger was cold ground beef in the middle and the steak was basically ‘grill marked’ and raw otherwise. We complained and sent the entrees back, only to receive the same meat back, just re-cooked, on the same plates with the original sides, now basically room temp. And they forgot the fried egg on the burger despite adding a fresh bun. So now we had twice-cooked meat we had already cut into, cold sides and a very embarrassed server, 40 minutes after arriving. The server finally said ‘the manager approves’ new entrees but we thought ‘no thanks’. Any kitchen that re-cooks meat that was cooked wrong to begin with, and serves back the same cold sides, and forgets ingredients isn’t worth giving another try. I try to support local, grass-fed, farm-raised etc but not like this. We paid for the meal and tipped the server well, it wasn’t their fault, but we won’t go back.

My steak salad with beets was absolutely delicious!! I ordered it with the dressing on the side but they accidentally put it on. Boy, you talk about surprisingly, amazingly delectable!!! Highly recommend!!!! 👌

Chicken wings were very fresh meat and crispy. Garlic Lime sauce was the best. Main dish, it was disappointing. They didn’t even serve salmon with lemon. There was no taste. I am not a big fan of salt or seasonings but it was super bland. I didn’t even eat vegetables. Barely finished fish. Chicken was also bland. Their meat is definitely fresh but can cook better. Drink was not satisfying at all. I am not picky but it taste like medicine. Service was good.

Food comes quickly and tastes amazing! I highly recommend coming on a Saturday or Sunday for the brunch menu; the cider donuts and open-faced breakfast sandwich are the best dishes in the restaurant.

Yelp
Came at the transition from brunch to dinner menu on a Sunday. We liked a few things on both menus but we waited too long and only the dinner items were available. We wanted the caesars but within 10 minutes is was no longer available. Weird, maybe I don't understand the deal between 15 minutes and having romaine lettuce and not. And even if the dressing is made from scratch which I've done, not a big deal to have a customer be happy. The salad options for dinner are a lot fewer. We went with the mixed greens which was good and fresh with a balsamic dressing. Good but not what we wanted. We had the calamari and bread with honey butter. Both were outstanding. The squid was really fresh. while the batter could have been a little more crunchy it was really good. We loved the jalapeño peppers with it really made it pop. We shared the walleye. The order is sized for one person. The fish was fresh and flaky. the batter was good. Didn't care for the lentils so we ordered a side of fries. The fries were also outstanding. really crispy and soft on the inside. The service was also really good. Attentive but had no pull on the salad issue. They have a 20% service fee. They explained it helps cover the wages and benefits they wanted for the staff. I wondered, why wouldn't they just pay them the fair wages and price the menu that way and the let the staff share the tip. But what do I know.

Yelp
I ate here on 6/11/23 with my family and my sister's best friend. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were seated quickly. The server was very attentive and patient with us as we mulled over the menu. I ordered tea to drink, which was wonderful for the slightly chilly morning. I was debating between multiple choices on the brunch menu, but ultimately decided on the spinach and egg quiche with potatoes. This was a great option as I didn't want to get the same "avocado toast" I get everywhere or a more lunch-vibe salad or sandwich. The quiche was crunchy on top and soft & flavorful on the inside. The side potatoes were also the right level of crispy and seasoned. They were still a little dry, so I asked for some ketchup to help me finish the plate. Overall, I felt the meal was filling and a great start to a rainy Sunday.

Yelp
They had only been open a week when my husband, MIL and I dined here. That's why I gave them 4 stars because the service was slow and the food was luke warm. But the food was delicious, you can tell they use the freshest of ingredients. I had the trout, two pieces of lovely fish cooked nicely in a delicate sauce. My only complaint besides the temperature was they served it skin side down so the skin was soggy. My husband had the strip steak, excellent but maybe a touch skimpy for the price. My MIL's lamb chops were fantastic, well seasoned and so tender (still not hot). Our waitress was lovely, super sweet but quite green. She hadn't tried much on the menu and could not answer any questions about the menu. I greatly look forward to coming again and being able to revise to a 5 star rating. I realize they were just opening. Give them a try, I think they'll be a great addition to Evanston.

Yelp
I really wanted to like Thomas & Dutch, but I was deeply underwhelmed. Went for my birthday dinner with a friend, and paid $92+ while leaving just barely full. We ordered four dishes to share: Gnocchi, agave roasted carrots, beets with goat cheese, and roasted chicken. All were fine, but none were particularly special. I did like the marscapone polenta that came with the chicken. (For the record, no free dessert or anything for the birthday.) Sat outside on a nice, warm evening. There was natural wind, but they still had fans on over the patio, which made it a bit cold. (Someone at the table next to mine went back to their nearby condo to get jackets and sweatshirts for everyone.) The biggest downside to this was that all the dishes cooled off almost immediately, which likely made them even less impressive than they could have been. I do appreciate that Thomas & Dutch charges a 20% "service fee" automatically rather than expecting standard tips, which makes for a more stable income for employees. I doubt I'll go back for dinner, but may try brunch in hopes that the food is tastier and more fulfilling at a more reasonable price point.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner with friends last week at Thomas & Dutch! The space (formerly Farmhouse) has been completely transformed and is super modern, fresh, and cozy. The menu has a range of options for all kinds of diners (including plenty of vegetarian and pescatarian-friendly options)! Two of us a split a delicious bottle of rose (a great recommendation from the somm), while the other two sampled some of the signature cocktails (all delicious). Some of my favorites that we tried were the walleye ceviche shooters, oven braised beets, salmon, and the duck. We also tried a sampling of desserts, (which I recommend NOT skipping, they were each fantastic), my favorite of the bunch being the key lime cheesecake. Prices are very reasonable for the quality, and it's hard to find another option for this type of dining in downtown Evanston! Highly recommend for a romantic date night or fun evening out with friends. We'll be back soon!

Yelp
We had a lovely meal at Thomas & Dutch on Friday. Still thinking about it! The renovations on the inside are gorgeous, and the food is cooked well and interesting. We had and really enjoyed the bread, the gnocchi, the duck breast and the lamb. Cocktail and wine list are great too. Great addition to the neighborhood. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
We had a spectacular dinner here last weekend! The food and service were incredible. Great for out-of-town guests - they kept remarking how much they enjoyed the meal. Really lovely addition to the Evanston restaurant scene. The beets, calamari, rigatoni, and walleye were particularly excellent. A few notes based on earlier reviews - we did not feel rushed at all, so I suspect that this was an opening weekend issue. Service was impeccable - the 20% gratuity that's included did not bother us at all. With a table of nine, our food was served all together and at the perfect temperature. Highly recommend for a celebration with family or friends. We will be back.

Yelp
Food was very good. Our server Morgan was great. Management needs more training. For a restaurant at this caliber there are definitely some kinks. We're paying over $30 for entrees and the busser hands is our silverware back so we can use it for the next course. The manager did get us new silverware when we asked for it. But didn't understand why we didn't just set it on the table to use it again. This seems like too nice of a restaurant to operate this way. We ordered bread and butter and they delivered it. But no plates. We waited for a while. But it was clear that plates were not coming so we decided to eat it while the bread was still warm instead of waiting for the entrees to come. But the food was truly excellent. Wine was good too. The server has nice recommendations and she was helpful. Overall it was very good.

Yelp
Socialism is alive and well at this restaurant. They seem very proud of their mandatory 20% gratuity policy. I can understand that it's hard to work as a server for an uncertain reward- sometimes you give great service and end up with Uncle Scrooge calculating the tip. Sometimes you give mediocre service and still crank in a 30% tip from a compassion person who may also have waited tables at one time. But mostly, in the true spirit of capitalism, if you work hard and deliver good service, diners will reward you nicely. I personally have no problem with leaving a 30% tip and have been known to tip 50% or add an extra cool hundo in cash for superior service on a holiday. I have had servers chase me down in the parking lot to make sure it was correct, and then sincerely thank me. It really chaps my hide to have a restaurant impose a minimum tip policy- so 20% it is - not a penny more from me. They attempt to guilt you in to giving more with an additional 4-5-6% option when you tab out. Come on!! So not returning based on the socialist tip policies. Socialism is known to inspire mediocre work, so the restaurant has that service element to deal with in the long run. I found the food to be bland and the check was heavy at $200 for a two topper with one cocktail each. Good luck comrade.

Yelp
I am so glad that Thomas & Dutch replaced Farmhouse. The interior is much more modern and reminds me of the newer restaurants in NYC and downtown Chicago. Let's start with the drinks and appetizers: - The ginger snap (mocktail) is delicious but overpriced. While I did down 2 (small) glasses, I probably would recommend you opt for wine or beer to get your money's worth - Walleye ceviche is unique in the sense that the chef added crispy fish skin to the ceviche, adding a nice crunch and subtle saltiness to the mix. It is definitely not something you can share. If you're willing to shell out $15 for each person, then I do recommend! Otherwise, opt for other smaller plates that are more shareable Moving onto the entress: - Having read the reviews, I did not order the pork or duck breast (for context, apparently, the flavor tones lack balance--i.e., not enough acidity or monotonous sweetness). I went with the beef wellington, and I do not regret my choice. It's so beautifully made into a more consumable size! Flaky pastry, beef cooked so perfectly, and a marvelous slaw on top for some nice freshness and acidity Do I recommend? Yes, but note my caveats above!

Yelp
We just had an excellent meal at Thomas & Dutch. It was their fourth (ish?) day open and they were busy. We sat at the bar. The space is totally transformed from when it was Farmhouse--it's a really gorgeous space. Sophisticated and upscale, but not stuffy. It's how I wished my dining room looked. It would be a great option for a date night or a special occasion. I would bring my friends or my parents. The bartender, James, did an amazing job describing the cocktails to us. Whitney waited on us and was attentive, friendly, funny, and charming. He made us feel incredibly welcome and valued. The food was all excellent (the trout, the glazed pork belly, and the salad were standouts), and the wine list was very well thought out and had some excellent options. Dessert was also outstanding. We will be back!

Yelp
Ahh! This used to be Farmhouse Tavern, remember that? This is by the same group called Farmheads Hospitality Group. I started out with Fried Artichokes, Tofu Salad and Grilled Rack of Lambs. Then ended off with Lemon and Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta. I was expecting a little more heat for the salad. The Grilled R.O.L. and Panna Cotta were spectacular! For the cocktails I had Tequila Sour and The Vesper.

Charlie B.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my dining experience at Thomas and Dutch. I thought the menu was very diversified and very flavorful. The ambience had a great buzz. The drink and wine selection was also excellent. I will plan on going back to try some other items.

Tom K.

Yelp
This is not your typical restaurant in the lobby of a chain hotel. This is good enough for a first date. We ate as a large group and managed to cover the menu. All the proteins were excellent: trout, salmon, beef, duck, and chicken. Sides were fresh and everything well plated. Service was excellent and the furnishings were upscale and modern. The bar service was a little slow, but the cocktails were seasonal and tasty. Not a huge dessert menu (just four) and most were very good (most people did not like the peanut butter and chocolate mousse). Overall, it's a great option if you are staying onsite and worth walking to

Yelp
My daughter and I went here for dinner on Mother's Day and sat outside on the patio, which was a little chilly but the heaters did the trick. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. First of all, our waiter, Lars was wonderful: he explained the menu, gave perfect recommendations, was personable, attentive and friendly! The wine fit our preferences perfectly and we were served complimentary champagne that was delicious. We started with the Walleye ceviche: Lars recommended we each order our own because it comes as a small "shooter". It was perfect size for one person and incredible! The Spring greens salad was also delicious, great combination of flavors. The Pan Seared Trout was absolutely delightful! Texture, seasoning and overall flavor was perfect! Size was just enough, not overwhelming. Roast chicken w/polenta was also very good. ***Save room for dessert!!! The Peanut Butter Chocolate Mouse (GF) was out of this world! You'll be glad you ordered this! Lemon Panna Cotta was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and refreshing! We took our time even after we finished eating and were not rushed. We enjoyed this meal so much so we sat for a several minutes just taking it in. We'll be back!

Nick M.

Yelp
Really wanted to like this place, but after 2 visits here we have been completely underwhelmed. Mediocre service both times, food is decent but nothing to write about, the specials that looked good were out both times (despite us being there early in the evenings), $8 for plain bread (not at all like the website description of sourdough potato, caramelized onion, scallion & rosemary for that price), and seeing other tables get special attention for their special occasions while we were ignored for ours. Too many other good options in Evanston and nearby, we won't be back to this one.

Nick K.

Yelp
A pleasant and inviting space with a decent menu. I ordered the Dutch Melt which was some sort of pork patty on bread with cheese. It was okay - a little greasy but very filling. Even though the restaurant wasn't very busy on this weekday lunchtime, service was poor. Not sure why it says "private lot" for parking. There isn't one.

Carol R.

Yelp
I am rewriting a review I posted earlier. The food was good. When we arrived the lights were very bright - thankfully they dimmed them after we arrived. It's a more pleasant dining experience not feeling like one is in a cafeteria. Two of us arrived together and were seated promptly and ordered drinks which arrived quickly. Our third companion arrived shortly after and she waited 20 minutes for her drink which made it awkward. There were two different servers who came to our table so perhaps there was internal confusion on who was waiting on us? The servers didn't seem particularly attentive - maybe the 20% mandatory gratuity is a disincentive? Our second round of margaritas were off flavored - all three of us wondered if the bartender had mistaken Amaretto for Cointreau or Grand Mariner ? We sent the drinks back ( first time for me) I sent a feedback to the restaurant and the Director of Operations Phil Cocco sent the following in part message : "We served you a top shelf margarita, which you didn't like. Sometimes we should just keep to the basics because we aren't use to what we don't know or are used to." Dear lord - it's a Margarita- not a complicated cocktail - after many back and forth emails I remain frustrated at the response. I had a less than satisfactory experience which could be resolved with a non-defensive and condescending response. I loved Farmhouse and was excited to enjoy Thomas&Dutch - hopefully if you go there you'll have a better experience than we did.

Scott P.

Yelp
Complete lack of class. Hurried us through the whole meal and never apologized once and the mustached hipster waiter could have cared less. Same to be said about his manager. Went here for Mother's Day. I think I owe my mother another meal at a decent place that actually cares about their diners. Good place for Father's Day, if you hate your father.

Yelp
Fantastic space but needs menu overhaul. Not sure what exactly this restaurant is trying to be - not regional elevated enough and not a gastropub with tasty food and not ethnic. Definitely lack of a cohesive aesthetic and not sure it will last. Cocktail - mezcal with dreaded dry cardboard lime and promised heat but pretty flavorless and not spicy Ceviche - it should say tiny shooter of meh ceviche but they call it "shareable" Beef/watermelon app - baffling - greasy fried cubes of beef on watery pieces of cucumber and watermelon. Possibly the worst combo of 2023. Shrimp fettucine - watery onions, watery sour sauce, sundried tomatoes, skimpy amount of (not fresh) fettucine, plain shrimp in above watery sauce. Overall the menu had lots if beets mushrooms and celery - in June ? Add a poutine, chopped salad, oysters, any real food that does not rely on fancy shapes or unusual combos or fancy plating at the expense of taste and portions. This is not an expensive yet untasty shareable kinda neighborhood. You may get hotel tourists/expense account customers but that will not sustain this menu. I really want to like something here but struck out today. Staff is very kind so will try once more. They replaced the cardboard lime with real ones.

Vinci T.

Yelp
I had the chance to eat here recently. First off, the ambiance, decor, and service of this place is excellent! They really elevated the space and I was very excited to try the new menu. I was able to try several dishes: the chili glazed pork belly, fried artichokes, maitake, fennel, duck, tenderloin, salmon, and panna cotta. This is where I think things fell off. Appetizers: the pork belly had only two skewers, and these were tiny. The flavor profile of this was mainly just sweet and could have done more to highlight the ingredients. I would have much preferred a large chunk of pork belly and additional components to elevate it. The artichokes were the best thing I ate, but could have used more brightness and a little more acidity from the lemons. Veggies: The fennel dish was very one-note. The bread with the harissa spread should have been toasted and there could have been more color on the plate. I loved the concept of the maitake mushrooms with the flavor profile of the cocoa nibs, but the large chunks of the tuile made the bitterness way too overpowering. The flavors of the maitake, puree, and pie crust were mellow, leaving this large dichotomy in flavors between the nibs and reset of the ingredients. I feel as though another component could have been added, or the pie crust (which I didn't feel like it added much) could have been prepared another way (maybe by adding some herbs) to bridge the flavors of the dish. The maitake itself could have used more caramelization. Mains: From the mains, I could tell the technique was there. The salmon and duck were cooked very nicely, but there were some details that were lacking. In the duck dish, the kale was very salty and just soaked up the oil of the duck, making the whole dish way to fatty. Something like a berry sauce could have made it more balanced. In addition to this, the components of the tenderloin didn't tie in together very well. The apple preparation didn't mesh well with the pork (maybe doing more besides just grilling the apple would have been better), and the corn puree was way to loose and bland. Dessert: The panna cotta was good. The strawberry limoncello sauce was very enjoyable, but the tartness of the lemon curd overpowered the subtle limoncello flavor in my opinion. Overall, for the price point and overall ambiance of the place, the food currently doesn't seem to live up to the same standards. Every dish tries to elevate the ingredients, but all the dishes for me only went halfway in terms of execution. I think a lot of dishes needed additional flavors like acids to balance and make them more cohesive. I'm definitely rooting for this place and really hope they improve!!! I think this was a good starting point.

Alan K.

Yelp
Magic beginning to end. Wine that will surprise you but not break you. Food that will change you. Staff that will get to know you.

Oak J.

Yelp
All the dishes were great. Truly, nicely, crafted. Not great enough to justify the indifferent attitude of the staff. Honestly I wish I'd walked out during the 20 minutes it took to get our drinks (which we ordered as soon as we sat down). F this place. Only come here if you wish to kow-tow to a cult of self-importance. I predict this place will be out of business within a few months. Tip for the owners: it's possible to serve fine cuisine while also respecting your patrons. There are at least two other restaurants in Evanston that do it.

Nilima H.

Yelp
This review is to state that Whitney M, the General Manager, worked very well with me to organize various meals and a private function at Thomas & Dutch during our stay in Evanston for a family get together. The staff was extremely friendly, the food was good and the bar was enjoyable. The atmosphere at the restaurant is fresh and pleasant. Many thanks to all at Thomas & Dutch!

Dave E.

Yelp
Our party went to Thomas & Dutch to celebrate our friends 40th birthday. We had an exceptional dinner at here, I would highly recommend it! My wife started with the calamari which was light and lightly fried, very delicious. I started with the walleye ceviche, which was incredible, but it a smaller dish, so do not order with the intent to share with your party. Also, the bread and butter that you can order is warm, soft and very fresh. As for drinks, they offer a friendly, well informed sommelier and is one of the nicest persons I have ever met. Nathan guided us with each course of the meal and we had three different bottles of wine, all of which were fantastic. My favorite was the unfiltered red that was served with my Beef Wellington which I HIGHLY recommend. It was served with a fluffy crust and the meat just melted in my mouth. My wife ordered the New York strip and shared with me and was juicy as well. I forgot to mention that we also had some cocktails in between our wine that were also fantastic (ordered two margaritas). As for the atmosphere and look, I loved the white, sleek, modern look of the restaurant and while we wanted to sit outside, the windy Chicago night prevented that, but allowed us to enjoy the indoor ambiance and got to have a better conversation with the sommelier. I am glad we sat at a high-top at the bar so we could watch the bartender make all the crazy cocktails they offer. Our server was nice and there were no issues with our order and all the food came out quickly. FYI, if you plan on getting the beef wellington, you need to expect to wait about 30 minutes for it to cook. I cannot wait to go back during a beautiful Chicago (Evanston) summer evening and try the duck. Two thumbs up!

Mar R.

Yelp
I've now been a few times and I think there are some great things like the wine is good and affordable, and the food is pretty good especially for Evanston. The deserts are good, and the bread is good but why isn't that included. However -- very annoying they don't have a vegetarian entree. There are a bunch of salads and apps, but there should be one larger vegetarian that's in the same healthy spirit as some of the apps. The beets, carrots and salads are good. The pasta is very heavy and creamy. The mushrooms were fine but the rest of the dish was horrible.

Justin M.

Yelp
Had an excellent dinner for two! The menu is fresh and inventive with wonderful pairings curated by their staff sommelier (who himself was quite entertaining and helpful). The restaurant shows quite well with a classy and modern decor. Were excited to come back and would recommend for anyone considering a date night in Evanston.

Marijane D.

Yelp
We Just returned from a lovely evening at Thomas and Dutch. Excellent service, incredible wine list with a charming sommelier to aid in your decisions, and an exciting menu. Our appetizers were inventive and so full of flavors. The gnocchi were so light and the vegetables dishes (beets and carrots ) were perfection. The fish ( we had the trout and walleye ) was delicate and fresh. I often opt out of dessert. Don't, our choices were such a treat, sweet but not heavy. The perfect ending to a very enjoyable evening.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Food was really good, but service? Let's just say that we felt like we had to wolf down our food because they wanted the next round of customers to get our table. We even asked to have the food paced out so that we wouldn't have to feel rushed, but the serving staff hovered and swooped in as soon as the last forkful made its way off the plate. Friends of ours who we happened to run into tonight said they got their first dish BEFORE their drinks. This is not efficiency. It is all about the rapid turnover, and we felt like we were just filling a slot that had an alarm set to go off at a precise time.

tricia l.

Yelp
Miserable experience. We sat outside and had so much trouble getting service from any waiter. Ok. They were understaffed. Waiter who came raves about the duck which we ordered natch. It was awful. Tasted reheated. We didn't eat it. Paid a small fortune and got out of there. We had high hopes. They were dashed.

Emily S.

Yelp
I had a WONDERFUL dinner at Thomas & Dutch last week, highly recommend! We started with the walleye ceviche, which was incredible (and I'm not usually a ceviche person) and continued with the oven braised beets, followed by the shrimp linguini. All of the seafood was FANTASTIC - fresh and perfectly done, but my friends entrees looked delicious as well. We each got a dessert and shared, so it was hard to pick favorite, but the cinnamon whipped cream on the peach cobbler sealed the deal for me. Wine and cocktails were also fantastic (had the perfect dry rosè for a warm spring evening), the decor was so thoughtfully done, and the service was great! Would love to return!

James B.

Yelp
This place is spot on! Excellent food and wine's....yes wines. Starters such as the Chili Glazed Pork Belly with Shrimp and Gnocchi are fantastic. The agave carrots can't be missed along with the Beef Wellington and Shrimp with Fettuccine. Save room for dessert because they are all great. Enjoy

Yelp
2 martini's $39.00 plus a charge for health and welfare. This isn't Gibsons or the bar at the Four Seasons

Amy G.

Yelp
Was treated by friends for a birthday lunch. My watercress and fruit salad was delicious, but be forewarned if this is your main course, the salads do not come with bread. I thought that was kind of odd, but I guess it's just me, because the server seemed surprised when I asked. So then I asked if I could please order some bread on the side and was told the kitchen "has no bread." That was that. BYOBread, I guess.

Megan D.

Yelp
The food, staff, and vibe make this place great! I've never had a bad meal here. I brought my mom in who was visiting for the weekend and she's going to be telling everyone about her meal she had for weeks on end!

Susan B.

Yelp
My husband and I celebrated a wedding anniversary at Thomas and Dutch. It was the first time that either of us dined here. We were very pleased with our experience and will be back. I decided to try items new to me. My starter was the Salmon Crudo. It was a well presented plate of sushi grade salmon, complimented with beets, watercress, crème fresh (I think), raspberry jam and jalapeños. I'm not a huge salmon fan, but wanted to get out of the rut of ordering the same things. The dish was very tasty. I liked it but salmon fans might love it. Glad that I tried it. My entree was the breast of duck. It was a generous serving with kale, potatoes and sweet potato purée. The duck was rich with an almost buttery flavor. Not a hint of "gaminess."'I have little experience with duck, so can't claim how it ranked with other presentations. I was again happy with my choice. The service was outstanding! The sommelier seated us, and offered a complimentary drink when he heard it was our anniversary. We tried a slightly sparkling dry Riesling, which I would not have tried other than for his generous offer. It was delicious. We follow with a Pinot from Burgundy, which was a new choice we loved. Definitely ask for his recommendations if you dine here. Mikayla is was our server. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and confident in her recommendations. The service was prompt but never pushy. We are happy to have found a new place to celebrate in Evanston. If you haven't yet tried Thomas and Dutch, give it a go.

Yelp
We've been here twice and both times it was an exceptional meal, with great cocktails and wine Highly recommend!

Yelp
Went to Thomas and Dutch for the first time. My date the trout which said was excellent. I had the lamb chops and they too was excellent. The service was great . We had Michael who unfortunately told us that it was his last night . He is moving because the restaurant CHARGES A 20% SERVICE AND TIP . I personally have never saw that before and I got to guess that the servers do get this 20% fee. Because if that I am giving it 3 stars . I won't go back there again if that fee continues.

Yelp
The food and ambiance at Thomas and Dutch were fine. What troubled us, was the mandatory 20% tip. I usually tip 20% however, when a tip is guaranteed, service and quality suffer. Then, when the bill arrived (on an electronic device) I was asked if I wanted to tip above the mandatory tip and was offered the option of 7, 10 or 12%!!! I was shocked! We visited on a Saturday at noon and there was only one other table being served.

Yelp
Food and service were excellent and they were very accommodating for our 2-year old. Will be back!

Yelp
Fantastic wine list, absolutely gracious staff, lovely decor including outdoor patio on a very pleasant corner. The menu is original and the food is delicious. Everything I look for in an upscale/nice not fussy restaurant. The sommelier is a particularly high grace note -- charming, warm and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Very small portions also very expensive. My wife had chicken Parmesan sandwich with fries, not very good. I have steak, it was less the 5oz's it came with fries for $26.00. We also had two appetizers pork belly, very small quantity and the other calamari, it was ok.

Yelp
Loved Farmhouse but it was ready for this transformation. Great experience, beginning to end. We had the fried artichokes and pork belly / shrimp appetizers, beets, Beef Wellington, lamb chops and finished with the panna cotta. Every course was memorable and unique. Nathan recommended a great unfamiliar wine to pair our entree which we loved. Thomas & Dutch is clicking on all cylinders and just one week open. Impressive. We will be back soon!

Yelp
We were disappointed and will not return. First, in a cheesy and distasteful upcharge situation, we were charged extra (only revealed when our bill arrived) on top of our $15 speciality cocktails, when our waiter asked what kind of gin and bourbon we wanted in the cocktails that already had curated ingredients, and then suggested several options (with no indication of the default brand in the drink). When you list a $15 cocktail with ingredients, that's the price your guests should pay. Second, the menu concept and prices appear to have dramatically changed in the last several weeks compared to the menu the first several months, with multiple entrees now in the mid $30s and higher, ($34 chicken, $52 pork chop, and a fine but pedestrian $35 salmon dish) with others in the $40's, $50's and even a $70 entree. The two apps we had were fine but the maitake mushroom dish was dry and unremarkable. Much of the wine is seriously overpriced including an $18 glass of sparkling rose from Utica IL! Decor is modern but lighting is too bright and ambiance was off to us. Overall very disappointed and not expecting this overpriced concept to impress Evanstonians.
