Farmhouse at Descanso Gardens Review: Dine Among the Trees at This Botanical Garden Restaurant | Eater LA

"Not the sort of revolutionary restaurant that would inspire a special trek to La Cañada Flintridge on its own, this calm, unpretentious spot is perfectly tuned to the local foothills community. Set within the sprawling Descanso Gardens, the forest-like setting is serene and versatile enough for a book club brunch group, families with kids, or a quiet couples’ catch-up at the bar. Look to the short specials menu for hyperseasonal dishes with shoutouts to specific farms, like a late-summer tomato salad of brandywine, green zebra, celebrity, and sungold from Munak Ranch topped with fresh basil, pesto, and spicy croutons. Main courses stay produce-packed: the grilled pork tenderloin comes with pickled corn, chorizo cornbread stuffing, and a halved grilled apple, presented with dandelion greens sticking out at jaunty angles like a scraggly rooster comb. It’s kid-friendly — the kids’ menu arrives on a coloring-and-puzzle sheet; get the cheese pizza for them and for the bites you’ll inevitably steal. The dining room is nice, the patio nicer, but the best seats are at the bar, a wooden rectangle spanning indoors and out and hewn from a fallen garden tree, where cocktails lean on herbs and berries alongside craft beer and an approachable wine list." - Ben Mesirow

A Popular Orange County Restaurant Is Opening Inside LA’s Gorgeous Descanso Gardens | Eater LA

"Set to open inside Descanso Gardens at the end of the year or the start of 2025, the Farmhouse at Descanso spans roughly 6,700 square feet with an open kitchen, a bar made from the garden’s fallen trees, and an expansive patio; it takes over a meeting room inside Van de Kamp Hall directly off the gardens’ courtyard, and admission to Descanso Gardens is not required for dining. The menu’s ethos will reflect Richard Mead’s dedication to farm-to-table cooking but won’t be a replica of what he serves in Orange County, and earlier critical notes of his work include praise for the daily wood-fired pizza and the soppressata-topped pie alongside a critique that the restaurant’s signature seasonal vegetable bowl can be “a dense, sluggish welter of fibrous things.”" - Cathy Chaplin

Ten Great Places to Avoid The LA Rams Super Bowl | Eater LA

"Head farmer Nathan Peitso runs his family farm and the Beverly Center’s Farmhouse, where the meals are as fresh as one would expect. And while the brunch menu is a respectable choice, so is the $32 weekend buffet brunch with options like fig and ricotta toast, pizzas, enormous and fluffy buttermilk biscuits, and croque madame." - Mona Holmes

The perfect afternoon location for a delightful meal. Started off with some cocktails - an East Brothers Oatmeal Stout (along the lines of a lite Guniess) for me and a Cool, Pom & Collected (vodka, pomegranate, lime & mint) for my wife. Both excellent choices! We then split the Asian Chicken Salad 2.0 and the DG Burger, while Mom enjoyed a large plate of Prince Edward Island Mussels. Our food was perfect, our server, Chris, was excellent, and the smell of nearby roses made for a perfect afternoon. Reservations are highly recommended, especially with perfect SoCal weather!

This restaurant is fantastic! My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and because the food and atmosphere was so good, we definitely will be going back. We started with our cocktails, the Petal & Thorn and the Palm & Prophecy which were excellent (very sweet!) We split the pizza of the day which featured prosciutto and peaches and we hope it becomes a staple because it was our favorite dish. Then for our entrees we had the grilled albacore tuna sandwich that came with the best version of sweet potatoes I’ve had in a long time, and the spaghetti squash enchiladas which was fantastic. The staff were also very nice! Highly recommend!

Enjoyed lunch here! So glad to have a nice space and good restaurant in La Canada! Restaurant was really cute, modern farmhouse chic. Food was tasty, really enjoyed the mussels with a side of fries and a bottle of rose. Husband enjoyed the roast pork tenderloin! Lots of vegetate selections too, keeping with their farm to table vibe! Beet salad was gorgeous! The passion fruit cheesecake was a great finisher!

Reservations were made a week ahead. Every aspect of this restaurant is exquisite. The open entrance, the lighting, decor, and music, and the hostesses whom escorted guests to their tables. All that was ordered was artisan, and delicious. Our party of five enjoyed a lunch on a weekday. We were seated on their outdoor patio which provided beautiful views of tall trees which filtered the sun. The acoustics perfect. Our waiter was spot on. Classy, unhurried, knowledgable, patient, anticipated our needs. He also removed our plates as needed prior to being asked to do so. The indoor seating looked inviting with the warm lighting, and decor. The high ceilings made it look upscale,

Came here for an anniversary date. We had the pizza special and the peach margarita, a beer, the burger, and the apple cobbler. The dishes overall were simple but extremely tasty and well executed. Some very very minor things we would tweak on the food (pizza could be a bit easier to eat, cobbler was a bit difficult to share) but overall, very good. We ate outside on the back patio, which was lovely, and the service as well was delightful. Clean and spacious bathrooms. Just a really pretty environment, and we will definitely be returning for special occasions.

New fantastic restaurant and big. Tables inside and some booths. They take reservations and there is a full bar with seats so you can order food there. I came with three others ladies and we were celebrating a birthday. I loved Emily our waitress who was right there bringing all our drinks and food as soon as she could. The food is fresh and has a French twist of many things on the menu. I loved the DG burger and fries. Someone else got us an appetizer of shushito peppers with fresh string beans and an aoili that was delicious. A friend got the Salmon meal. Another got Herb Chicken and my mom got an Asian salad with chicken in it. All was delicious. I tried the cauliflower enchiladas with tehachapi blue corn tortillas but the sauce overwhelmed the flavors of the other parts so I was pleased they allowed me to send it back and get my DG cheeseburger. We loved the two desserts and it was quite a great meal! Kudos to the chefs and the sweet lady hostess at the front who sat us at a nice table. I recommend reservations.

We went here for a work dinner event and had a wonderful time. My coworker and I were early to the reservation and we loved the bartenders Darren, Bianca, and Jon so much. They truly made the experience warm and welcoming with their wonderful drink recommendations. The food was outstanding and we were lucky enough to get a table visit from the chef! Everything was so good it quickly became everyone sharing their plate because we had to try everything. Already planning on visiting again!

Overall the food was okay. However a few things: Service: When it came time to seat us, the attendants at the front told us we would wait 10 minutes before those with a reservation which was fine. It didn’t make any sense because the place was empty and continued to be even an hour after we finished. Our personal server was very sincere and accommodating however I saw a lot of other servers waiting around, singing and chatting like they had nothing to do. The food didnt come out immediately so it tells me they’re just not busy enough or don’t care enough. Food: We ordered the beet salad. The cheese came smeared on the side like someone just didn’t know how to present it. The arugula was wilted and there was barely on the plate. Maybe worth $10-15 because of the portion but we were charged $21. We also ordered the enchiladas. Maybe I have a bias here but the portion of the enchiladas was small, and the entire plate waaaay too bland. It was mostly grilled vegetables and flavorless. I ordered the short ribs. Again, maybe being Korean and having been to the best bbq places in LA make me expect more. The short ribs were thin, somewhat charred and tough. The portion again was thin. The cilantro was also not fresh and wilted.

Yelp
Farmhouse is amazing, terrific foods, inventive cocktails, charming attentive staff. And smack in the middle if the Gardens, with tons of parking. Farm to table food is delicious and LOCAL. We've been back several times since discovering it a few weeks ago. Just opened in May, 2026. Enjoy!

Yelp
Almost wish I had taken photos but also would prefer to forget this experience ASAP. 1 star for the food. 1 star for the service. Here's why... We've never been to Descanso. Decided to get tix to Carved and might as well make reservations at the restaurant on site since we traveled up from Orange County. Regrets all around. We ordered 1) the pumpkin soup (the days market special) 2) the Asian short rib, 3) the gratin and 4) what is essentially their sweet potato fries...all to share. The pumpkin soup and gratin came out first. Not only was the soup kinda bland - the flavor of the pumpkin was just not well developed, but within the first couple bites we were picking out what I can only describe as stems and shards of hard sticks from our bite. This was a purée and was only supposed to have a blended pepita topping. I guarantee no pepita I have ever had has stems or hard stalks such that it seems like a large pinch of dried uncooked herbs was worked in. Not great. Then the gratin. Somehow everyone who passed this dish along - including the server - thought it was perfectly ok to serve a small crock loaded with burnt cheese. The inside - supposed to be braised greens, fennel and mushrooms was MAINLY mushrooms with a guest appearance by the rest - was tasty. But the burnt cheese (and I do mean BLACKENED), not so much. And had we not entered hungry for dinner, waited close to 30 minutes from being seated to these first two dishes coming to the table it might have been nice to wait for the waiter to return before digging in. When she did return and asked how everything was - mini cauldron of burnt cheese staring back at us all, I gently let her know that it was merely ok. When she asked what was wrong, I calmly asked if the gratin was REALLY intended to be served with quite so much char. She looked down at it and immediately said NO. She then rushed the dishes away in search of a manager only to return with both a couple minutes later ...apparently still on the hunt for said manager. The manager showed up a few minutes later and while everything she said was kind enough it was covered in a very uncomfortable and overly saccharine glaze that just made me want to cancel the remainder of the order and leave. She seemed only sort of surprised and not at all concerned but immediately offered to take off the charges for the two dishes and offered a free dessert. Before I could tell her we couldn't have the dessert she left! Then, I was completely confused with the short rib plate finally at the table and TOTALLY chalk that up to my wishful reading of that menu item. I should have come here for pics because in NO WAY did the description signal *to me* lettuce cups. So that's on me. However, the meat was on the dry side, and tough and frankly lacked flavor. Those little shards of dried beef were a sad use of short rib. And some of those lettuce cups were smaller than the size of a paper coaster you'd find at many bars. So when the waiter returned, eventually (not to ask if we wanted more water - I left thirsty!) but did ask how everything was, I tried to be as polite as possible because while a fan of getting what you pay for I'm not a fan of a scene and told her the sweet potato fries were great! Despite my protests, she quickly went off to get "the other" manager. Yet we were revisited by the first. Feeling bad I told her "look if you are going to ask me a question about food I'm paying for I'm going to be honest and this is the truth." She was kind, but it was still an uncomfortable (role-playing/disingenuous?) kindness and by then the night was moving on and all I kept thinking was get me out of here! She asked what she could do, offered the dessert again, which we declined and I told her we just wanted the potatoes wrapped and the check! She promptly brought back the to go bag and...no check. ‍ It would take around 10 more minutes to get the check from the waiter, who, all told seemed woefully unprepared to handle her station as I watched her either scurry to keep up or simply no where to be seen. All told this all took just over an hour but an unhappy and uncomfortable one that was NOT worth it. Yes, the waiter and manager were responsive but it didn't feel comfortable and the service itself was sparse. The food was just not good. As I waited for our check I watched the executive chef casually walk back and forth a couple times and thought, gosh, just seems like you may be on the wrong side of the house right now. But that's just me and my crock of burnt cheese. We won't be going back. And I would advise others to stop in for no more than a drink, if you must.

Yelp
Dinner at The Farm was lovely -- the ambience is perfect. I especially love sitting in a corner booth; it's much quieter and makes for a more relaxing experience. The modern farmhouse décor gives the place a fresh, inviting feel. The food has definitely improved since my first visit. I ordered the Asian short ribs -- though they tasted more like skirt steak than short ribs, they were still very good. We also tried the fingerling potatoes, which I'd skip next time -- they were bland and not worth ordering. The burgers, however, are outstanding! The brioche buns are grilled and buttered to perfection, and the meat is slightly crispy on the edges yet perfectly moist inside. The kids' menu worked well for my daughter's little one -- she had a cheese quesadilla and fries, simple but fine. Service is where the restaurant needs the most improvement. The staff seemed inexperienced and quite slow, something I've heard echoed by others as well. All in all, it's a nice spot to enjoy before heading into the gardens -- a beautiful setting with good food and great potential.

Yelp
The Farm House Restaurant is such a chic addition to the Descanso Gardens. It has elegant and relaxing vibes. The menu includes numerous savory and vegetarian dishes, in addition to indulgent desserts. The staff was very nice and genuinely warm. The chef told us that their ingredients are fresh and come from local farms. I ordered the following; -summer Pasta 5/5 It has roasted tomatoes, anchovy, olives, and ricotta cheese. It was very flavorful and the amount was generous. -Warm flourless chocolate truffle cake 5/5 It has seasonal fruits, balsamic gastrique,, cocoa nibs, pistachio, and delicate cheese. It was very decadent -Warm corn bread, caramel corn enhanced by the creamy buttermilk ice cream 5/5 - Iced Latte 5/5 A refreshing silky and has a creamy texture drink. Customers can enter the restaurant without purchasing the admission ticket. The restaurant is a must try.

Yelp
Lots of seating, great customer service, and wonderful food and excellent coffee! We had a delightful time there. The atmosphere is lovely. There's seating inside and outside. Our server Natalie was delightful! She gave us above and beyond customer service! We will be back!

Yelp
Met my girl friends for lunch earlier today. The ambiance here is amazing. Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful setting. Right by the entrance of Descanso Gardens. I had made reservations so we didn't wait to be seated. We started with coffee and as usual I ordered an iced coffee which didn't take like coffee. More like iced water. We shared a few dishes. The Chinese chicken salad was delicious. Perfectly balanced with veggies and the dressing. The pesto pizza was good too with figs and balsamic. The short ribs were a bit dry but very flavorful and we enjoyed it by making a lettuce wrap. The steak was probably our least favorite cause it was very chewy. Served with delicious veggies .... Customer service was ok , not the friendliest but not bad either. Overall we had an awesome time here at the Farmhouse. Will be back again to try other items from the menu.

Yelp
Farm-to-table magic in the middle of Descanso Gardens. Farmhouse at Descanso Gardens is a gem. My wife and I went for date night and felt like we'd escaped LA without leaving town. The setting inside Descanso Gardens is stunning -- big barn-style interior, outdoor patio, and a bar made from salvaged trees. Total NorCal lodge vibes. Service was warm and gracious. We sat at a table crafted from a fallen tree, which had a plaque about its story -- such a thoughtful detail. Food was excellent start to finish. The mushroom gratin with ancient grain bread and garlic butter was unforgettable. My steak came with crispy potatoes and a rich mushroom puree, while my wife's pork tenderloin with chorizo cornbread stuffing stole the show. Dessert cheesecake with passionfruit and sesame kataifi was the perfect finish. The manager Bryan, and chef Adam, stopped by to chat, making it feel even more personal. Genuine, classy, Michelin-worthy -- we'll be back with friends!

Yelp
This restaurant is located outside the entrance to Descanso Gardens, meaning you don't have to pay for admission to the Gardens in order eat at the restaurant. But you absolutely should make reservations. After spending time in the Gardens, my wife and I had lunch here. We had made reservations a couple days prior and were seated immediately at our designated time. The interior is on the small side with a covered patio attached. Walk-ins can sit at the bar, which is enormous, if no tables are available. We decided to order two dishes to share: the Asian Chicken Salad and the pizza of the day, the latter recommended by both the hostess and our waitress. I also asked for a house-made lemonade. The lemonade was excellent, a perfect mix of sweet and sour. The pizza was made with pesto, prosciutto, balsamic, and sliced peaches with a good amount of arugula on top. It sounds odd but it was really good. It reminded me of a Hawaiian pizza but the peaches added a more subtle sweet flavor than pineapple (and less acidic). All the flavors combined for a tasty pizza which I really enjoyed. The crust was soft but crisp around the edges and had great flavor. I had to use fork and knife for the first piece until it cooled a little and the crust stiffened up. The salad was excellent. The shredded chicken pieces were tender and flavorful. The finely chopped ingredients - cabbage, red peppers, carrots, red onions, baby bok choy, sugar snap peas, cilantro, mint, mandarin oranges, and crispy wontons combined for a wonderful blend of flavors. A sesame vinaigrette was the final touch to make it a perfect salad. Service was personable and attentive, and the prices were, happily, quite reasonable. Our only issue was what can often be expected when you are seated on a patio - an uninvited, occasional pesky fly. Luckily, one of my manly skills is swooshing away flies.

Yelp
Located just inside the entrance to Descanso Gardens, this restaurant is a true gem. From the moment we arrived, I was struck by the warm professionalism of the entire team--from the hostess to the bartender and our server. It's rare to encounter such consistently attentive and polished service across the board. Despite the restaurant being fully booked (reservations are definitely recommended), the service remained efficient and friendly throughout our visit. I ordered the grilled albacore tuna sandwich, which was flavorful and well-prepared, though a bit messy--eating it with a knife and fork worked best. My friend had the DG Burger and described it as exceptional. The drinks menu is extensive, and their martinis are expertly crafted. With a seasonal, farm-to-table menu that changes regularly, I'm already looking forward to returning and trying new dishes.

Yelp
Farmhouse is the latest iteration of a sit-down restaurant at Descanso Gardens and the best so far, in my humble opinion. I was fortunate enough to be treated to lunch by my friend for a special occasion and was impressed. We scored seats at the bar, where our delightful server Morgan kept us in drinks and conversation. We started out with cocktails; my Peach Margarita, the seasonal offering, was outstanding. The peach garnish was perfectly ripe, with a dash of Tajin, and the tequila/peach combo worked well. We then moved on to a non-alcoholic drink created by our server, Morgan: The Watermelon, made with fresh watermelon and a melon basil shrub (shrub is also known as a drinking vinegar). It was perfectly refreshing and delicous on a warm summer's day. We split the pizza of the day (peach/prosciutto) and a market salad. The pizza crust was absolutely delicous, yeasty and chewy; the toppings screamed summer and were perfectly seasoned. The salad ingredients were fresh and lightly tossed with dressing. A perfect summer lunch. We finished with a Meyer lemon tart, which was just okay but arrived with a candle to be blown out. Once it became known that we were celebrating my birthday, more restaurant staff came to express well-wishes and to verify my astrological sign. Now, this is California, and so there are many people that believe in astrology; I am not one of them. I didn't make a fuss, though; my friend wisely commented that the staff was just trying to make a connection. Point taken. Reservations recommended. Free parking in the lot.

Yelp
California cuisine at its finest. I really like this place. It's a very unique menu. Great place to come especially if you're gonna visit the garden. Good mocktail selection. Great appetizer. Creative entrees. Nice to sit outside during spring and early fall, and mild summer days.

Yelp
Located at the Descano Gardens, this restaurant offers a refreshing taste of healthy food! The style seems to be a farm-to-table type, and the name suits it. You should make reservations if you are coming here on the weekend. The inside is so pretty with wood interior and hanging lights. It feels like you're in a huge cabin. Overall, the food and the vibe here make me wish I lived a lot closer so I could enjoy a nice meal! The salad that we ordered was nice and refreshing, the sweet potato fries were gigantic, the chicken was delicious and of course, you should order the mussels! Our party of five enjoyed everything and we shared all the food. Would come back and would recommend it.

Yelp
Great restaurant inside Descanso Gardens..Lots of free parking and handicapped spots. Best to make reservations at tables and booths fill up fast. Full bar and stool seats available there without reservations but it is so new it gets crowded pretty fast. Great appetizers, meals, vegetarian options, and desserts. Chefs are very good. I love the DG cheeseburger with fries. Big Menus. Brunch, Lunch and specials make it fun to come more often. We love the hostesses and waitresses and the bartenders! All very sociable and nice! Today went for a birthday and got a free sweet dessert and bought a second one. Its open air so you don't get too hot and all the food is fresh.

Yelp
Have been curious to try this restaurant located in the picturesque Descanso Gardens Came for brunch on a Saturday. We requested a table outside and surprisingly patio had mostly families with small children/infants. Ordered the steak salad and French toast which servings were enough to share. Both dishes were exceptional. As other dishes were coming out to other patrons tables they looked equally good . We paired dishes with a sparkling rose and rose Pinot Service also deserves mentioning. Joshua was our server and very attentive/professional. Another staff member approached our table to check in, which was appreciated. I'm interested in returning for dinner which hopefully may be a tad quieter.

Yelp
My partner and I ended our Saturday with a late afternoon stroll through Descanso Gardens and decided to try the new restaurant, Farmhouse. I'd been excited to experience this new farm to table spot, and it did not disappoint. After walking among the roses, we arrived at a beautiful, chic space, a stylish lounge with an oak bar made from a tree that had fallen during a storm in construction. The service felt handpicked, thoughtful, attentive, and clearly from people who know exactly what they're doing. And the food left us wanting to try everything else on the menu, especially those carrots again. We started with the coriander & cumin spiced carrots, which our incredible server Franny told us was her favorite dish. I don't even like carrots that much, and I couldn't get enough. They were absolutely divine. We also had the French fried satsumaimo sweet potatoes, perfectly seasoned and delicious with the papaya mustard dipping sauce, and the mussels, which were solid. My partner had the DG Burger and really enjoyed it. The drinks? Wow. Both the cocktail and the mocktail we ordered were some of the most beautifully balanced drinks we've had, layered, complex, and genuinely memorable. Huge thank you to Franny for her warmth and great recommendations, and to Carol, the general manager, whose presence and care made the space feel truly special. We can't wait to return, and yes, we'll be ordering those carrots again.

Yelp
Came to visit the gardens on a Tuesday and it was surprisingly busy! We were there by 11am Restaurant opens at 1130am and and my girlfriend and I were able to snag the last couple seats at the inside bar, which is first come first serve. I had reservations at 1230p just in case, which was the earliest available a couple days before so definitely plan ahead if you are not flexible on the time. Once seated our bartender was very knowledgeable and explained that the menu is seasonal and changes often. I opted for gin based cocktails on this day and all were delicious but the petal & thorn was my favorite; a little sparkly and citrusy which are two of my favorite things. They offer an extensive drink menu with many tea and non alcoholic options. The bartenders description of the seasonal pizza had us hooked so we ordered the peach, prosciutto and pesto pizza and it was a 10/10 absolutely delicious. I would definitely order that every time it's offered. The menu is so good and different that you could probably try something new every time you visit, which I love. The inside bar looks out to the entrance of the garden which offers a beautiful view and it's just a different vibe than anything around. You do not need an admission ticket to visit the restaurant and parking is free so if you have not visited this hidden gem you must!

Yelp
I'm sad to give Farmhouse at DG a less than stellar review. My second visit, last night (the Sunday of Labor Day weekend) with a friend was a big blah. We sat at the bar and the service was fine. The young bartender, filling in, was pleasant and seemed to know what he was doing although a request for Tito's and cranberry was treated a little oddly. First we shared the charcuterie board which was SAD. 3 small pieces of hard bread, a small amount of salami and prosciutto, liver pate (gloppy), some very sour carrots, a few gherkins and some kind of marmalade. We barely touched it. Next we shared the pork special. The pork was delicious if not hot or even very warm. The grilled peach and pork were our main meal. The presentation was haphazard, different strange sides were all different temperatures. The "chorizo" over which the pork was draped was bizarrely inedible. Ok, maybe dessert could fix things! Chocolate can't be mediocre, right? Nope! The chocolate cake was a hard brownie like substance. We each tried one bite and left the rest. I did enjoy the Meyer lemon cake, however. If I were still serving, I would have made sure that at the very least the chocolate abomination was taken off the bill. Our servers weren't concerned even though they knew we were not happy with it. It feels like the location is sure to draw people so perhaps they aren't as concerned with quality as they might be. I won't be returning and I'm a DG member.

Yelp
First and foremost, I do love this place. Nothing is nicer than to take a lovely walk in Descanso Gardens and then cozy up to the bar here, indoors or out, for a good meal and conversation. It's a wonderful thing and I'm so grateful that Descanso decided to add a restaurant. That said, I have to admit that this place could be better. Each time I have a dish, I feel it's, well, good (enough) but NOT great. And why shouldn't it be great? And the worst part is that, when I tell the staff what it is about a dish that's not to my liking, rather than appreciate my feedback and assure me that they will take it into consideration, I'm left feeling that they are annoyed that I've said something. NOT OK! Here are some examples: I ordered Grilled Eggplant. Much as I LOVED the presentation and the sauce, the actual eggplant was "al dente" and that's not how it should be! When I mentioned it, the server asked if. wanted a sharper knife. HUH????? One shouldn't need a sharper knife for that dish - it should be prepared properly and cut quite easily! The Asian salad we got had nice ingredients and looked good but had no flavor. It should make the tongue sing - but instead it fell flat. As they'd say on Top Chef, "not enough acid." Both the Coiander and Cumin-spiced carrots and Cauliflower steak, again, were not cooked enough. And my first experience there, I was served very pink pork tenderloin when I'd expressly stated that I was concerned that it was cooked enough to make it safe. Why are they not cooking things fully? Dishes LOOK GREAT (see attached photo), but the flavors there can be much better. I can't remember which one, but either the eggplant came with no sauce or the Cauliflower so I needed the sauce from one for the other. THAT sauce, whichever it was originally on, was very tasty, but there aren't many other flavors there that I'm really dying to re-experience. I love that the menu has a good variety including lots of veggie dishes. They are trying and giving it a good go, but still have a long way to go to be the restaurant I know they want to be. I want to LOVE LOVE LOVE this place, I want it to last forever, but they need to do better. I can't think of anything I've had that I loved and would rush to go back for. But since it's where it is, and the waiters are cute and personable, despite not responding all that well to feedback about the food, I'll continue to be their customer. I really hope it's just growing pains, but please, people, LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS! Take us seriously. Without us, where would you be?

Yelp
BEAUTIFUL NEW RESTAURANT AT DESCANSO GARDENS ============================================= Descanso Gardens members were given the opportunity to make reservations on Open Table before they opened up reservations to the public. I think the restaurant opened at the end of May and I made a reservation for Monday, June 2nd, for lunch. The hostess took my friend and I to a big booth for six in the corner of the bar area. Next time I would like to sit at the bar right at the corner. John, the head bartender, told us that was the most popular location so far. My friend and I both ordered a salad. I chose the Farmhouse Market Salad for $17. There were lots of things inside. See my photo of the menu. It was really good, but it seemed like the salad had salt on it. This was without the dressing that I held on the side. I don't salt many things, so I noticed that. My friend chose the Roasted Beet Salad for $17. She really loved that, however they brought her salad out ten minutes after they brought mine out. Both should have been delivered at the same time. I ordered a Stone Delicious IPA and they brought out a can. I guess this one was not on tap. They just opened and I am sure they are working out the kinks.

Yelp
I'm a member of the gardens and I was PUMPED for Farmhouse to open. After about a year or more of anticipation, Farmhouse finally opened its doors in May 2025 to members only, followed by to the public in June 2025. For those who are slightly turned off by their not-so-elaborate menu, don't give up on them just yet! Their menu may not be the most exciting but their food is fresh, tasty, and worth the visit. We asked the staff whether they plan to expand, and they said they eventually will, so I will continue to keep them in my rotation of local restaurants. Farmhouse is beautiful both in the interior and exterior. They have a good amount of tables both inside and outside, and I bet it'll be very cozy outside during the warm summer nights. The interior has tall, farm-like ceilings that feel very inviting, along with hand-painted murals of different trees on the walls. It's truly stunning! I liked how the bar area connected the inside and outside. They played volume-appropriate easy-listening tunes and it was easy to have a conversation. Ambiance was casual yet chic, intimate, and rustic. I absolutely loved it! Here's what I ordered: - Asian Chicken Salad - what a pleasant surprise! This was fresh, flavorful and a good size. I loved the wonton crisps and the dressing was spot-on. I also hear that the Farmhouse salad is worth a try. - DK Burger - cooked perfectly medium, burger was very good! Can't say it was the best I've had, but worth a try. I liked the house-made ketchup and really enjoyed the pickles! The fries/potatoes were slightly undercooked in my opinion, but not a big deal - (Cocktail) Palm & Prophecy- recommended to me by our lovely bar lead, this gin-based drink was what I was hoping for. Pineapple-infused but not too sweet, it was a wonderful blend of gin and sweetness of pineapple. I enjoyed this! The only few disappointments were that there were quite a few items that were sold out, including the 'pizza of the day' and certain beers. But given they just opened two weeks ago, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and realize that they are still figuring things out. Gives me another reason to come back :) The staff here are friendly, attentive and helpful. They checked in at the right times and items came to our table in a timely manner. Way to go Farmhouse! I look forward to seeing what additional items you'll add to your menu :)

Yelp
I came here with my girlfriends to check out the new restaurant at Descanso. First off, as stated above, the restaurant is located at Descanso, which is already an automatic plus in my book. As expected, the restaurant is beautiful, airy, and a great place to meet up with friends or perhaps have a celebration (like a bridal/baby shower... if they allow that). Second, the food is actually pretty good! My friends and I went on the first day for members and we thought the food was quite yummy. I hope the food stays consistent! :) The price is a little on the high side for what the food is, in my opinion, but I assume we're paying for ambiance. I got the chicken (very juicy). My friends got the burger and tuna sandwich, and we all were satisfied with our meal. Finally, bc this is at descanso, parking is free and plentiful!

Yelp
My two walking buddies and I meet at Descanso Gardens every week and our birthday girl requested a dessert celebration at Farmhouse after our walk. Because it was a hot afternoon in August, we ate inside where it is air-conditioned. The patio is very scenic but not air conditioned or misted. We had a great server, Jeff A. and nice support staff who kept our water glasses full. As for the desserts - very beautiful, reasonably priced for a restaurant like this and interesting ingredients. My favorite was the cheesecake, then the lemon tart, then the chocolate truffle cake. Jeff mentioned that Saturday nights have been very busy. Seems like a nice place to come with a small group. Can't wait to come back with hubby and check out the bar!

Yelp
The food is good, took awhile to come out. There was a mix up in our meals...our waitress was exceptional! The restaurant is very nice outdoorsy place.

Yelp
Food is delicious, menu is superb. It's so hard to find interesting and delicious lunch or dinner options in the area. And truly the ambiance is very calming, pleasant to sit around the table with friends or family. But I will say, and we've been 8 times, the service is always a hit or miss. The staff is nice, professional and lovely. But attentiveness and time delays need to be addressed.

Yelp
What a lovely setting, lots of integration with the outdoors including reclaimed wood tabletops. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive; she made several great suggestions. I loved the carrots with herbs and pistachios, as well as the cheese board. The bread was delicious, but I miss the bread at Roger's Gardens! The pastry chef is talented and I recommend ordering the specials before they sell out

Yelp
Fresh food that tastes great. Loved the mussels and cauliflower steak. Chicken was also tender and flavorful.

Yelp
Super cute ambiance and simple decor allowing nature to be part of the experience. Cauliflower steak was very tasty, Burger was ok and natural cut fries were ok and I love fries but these were alil too burnt. My friend said salad was ok, would try something else next time. I love farm to table experiences and so expected better tasting food for the pricing.$$$

Yelp
This review is long overdue, but here we go -- because our experience at Farmhouse was honestly unforgettable! I had the most beautiful girls' day with my mom and sister at this stunning new restaurant tucked inside Descanso Gardens. The location is dreamy -- you feel like you're dining in the middle of a secret garden. But let's talk about the food... because wow. We started with the farmhouse charcuterie board -- flavorful, balanced, and perfect to share. The coriander and cumin spiced carrots were such a surprise -- bold, earthy, and perfectly roasted. We also had the cauliflower steak which was my favorite, full of flavor and beautifully plated. The roasted beet salad was another standout -- fresh, vibrant, and to die for. For drinks, I had a glass of the Adelaide Cabernet Sauvignon (delicious and smooth), followed by one of their coffees -- which, by the way, comes from Jones Coffee. My mom and sister tried a couple of their cocktails and were so happy with everything. Dessert? Don't leave without ordering the cheesecake (creamy heaven) and the warm chocolate truffle cake -- rich & melty. And honestly, what made this experience truly special was the service. Our server, Prizzy, was an absolute gem -- kind, attentive, and just made us feel so taken care of. I'd come back just for her! All in all: amazing food, stunning location, and 10/10 service. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time here on Monday night. Frannie at the bar was so attentive, helpful and fun that we decided to dine at the bar and forgo our table. She took serving us to the next level by inquiring about our go to cocktail when helping us decide which cocktail there to order. Brilliant! My all time favorite is a Negroni. Frannie got excited snd made me a Trainryde. It was delicious. I ordered the chicken, yummy! Hats iff to the chef! The sweet potato fries were crispy but not greasy. The dip wasn't our favorite and they brought us Ranch. That was perfect. Frannie was fantastic and the whole experience was a real treat!

Yelp
We had dinner here with our kids and they were very accommodating. Kids menus, kids cups, special requests catered to etc. our kids had butter noodles with Shirley Temples and said it's the best butter noodles they've ever had! My husband and I sampled at least 5-6 different cocktails from the bar, all of them were absolutely delicious. Very well balanced drinks, not too sweet or too strong with fresh ingredients and house made shrubs and syrups. I appreciate they do not batch make their drinks. For food we tried the cheese platter, charcuterie plate, beet salad, DG burger and the Grilled Asian Beef short ribs. We really enjoyed all the food but my personal favorite was the fries that came with the burger, they were potato wedges with a house made ketchup. And their Beef Short Ribs. The beet salad was very flavorful and delicious. The cheese & charcuterie were good, I wish there was an option that offered cheese and meats together so we didn't have to order both separately. My husband loved his burger so all around we were very happy with the food. The ambiance is very airy and light which suits the garden atmosphere. Their AC was out but we were there late enough it started to cool down. Hopefully that will get fixed soon. It didn't take away from the experience and I would highly recommend this place for a date night, girls night or family dinner.

Yelp
As much as we enjoy being members of Descanso Gardens, it has always lacked good food options, so the news of a new restaurant was exciting. The place was nice - open, airy, and very much rustic chic, which matched the garden vibe perfectly. The food was mostly good. The soup and pizza of the day were both delicious. The roasted chicken was a bit on the dry side. Overall, the meal was satisfying, though nothing felt particularly special. The service, unfortunately, was the biggest downside, and it was mostly due to one staff member. I can still picture how her expression changed right before we entered our tip at checkout and immediately after. It felt like watching someone perform a play right in front of us. The 180-degree shift from the biggest, sweetest smile to an icy cold nothingness was quite striking. And in case you're wondering, we tipped about 22%, so it wasn't like we were being stingy. Overall, I'm not sure I'd want to go back, considering the sour taste the experience left. Everyone else was nice, and the food was decent, but it's unfortunate that our first visit didn't live up to expectations.

Yelp
Flavors really do bloom here! Dined on the patio before catching the really cool "Carved" Halloween event at Descanso Gardens. There was a wait for indoor seating but plenty of options at the bar or the nicely appointed patio. First, parking is ample and free. You do NOT need to have tickets to Descanso to dine at The Farmhouse. Reservations are recommended. The restaurant setting is quite pleasant, with high ceilings and large bifold windows along the full bar area that opens to the patio. The use of wood transformed from fallen trees on the property into table tops is special. The menu focus is fresh and local, and features something for everyone. From burgers to grilled albacore sandwiches, pasta, salads, chicken, salmon, pork, steak and much more. Shareable items too! Service is attentive and friendly. Darren is awesome. Back to the lead story...the food! We ordered the special veggie pizza ($23) and the ranch tomato plate ($23). The pizza crust was perfectly cooked and flavor filled. No "tip sag" and no burnt crust either. Caramelized onions, fresh cheeses and local veggies. Definitely enough to share if you get a salad or another small plate. The grilled short ribs looked really good ($22). The ranch tomato plate tasted like the wide variety of tomatoes were picked minutes before being placed on the rectangular plate. Topped with a pesto drizzle and spicy croutons. If you love tomatoes, it's a don't miss item. Worth the drive to experience the special setting on the grounds of the fabulous Descanso Gardens. Enjoy!

Yelp
A highly anticipated lunch date as it took two weeks since opening to secure a reservation for noon. The weather was perfect, not too hot with a subtle breeze made the patio a choice place to be seated. We just had water to start and ordered the Farmhouse salad and Pizza of the day based on the recommendation of Carol who works there. Today's Pizza of the Day was fantastic! A light and thin, but crisp enough crust to hold and sustain the toppings of pesto, prosciutto, grilled peaches drizzled with balsamic and topped with arugula. I memorized it because I'm going to recreate it at home. $22 The Farmhouse salad was OK. Greens were fresh but leaves were gigantic instead of torn into bite size pieces. For $17 I'd go with a different selection. Since my friend and I were sharing we save room for coffee, Jones coffee, $5 each (no refill) and the Apple Crisp based on our server, Jonet's recommendation. He by the way was so sweet and delightful. The dessert was just meh, I found the sweetness over powering and lacking depth of flavor. Basically the dish tastes and looks like some apples sautéed in brown sugar topped with granola with a dollop of vanilla ice cream the size of the small side of a melon baller. I think adding some orange zest, cinnamon, orange or fresh lemon juice with some freshly sliced slivers of basil would make this dessert better to cut the grainy textured brown sugar sweetness. Lunch for two with tip was $80. One thing to note, there was a very long wait from when we ordered to when the food arrived. I suspect it's to allow guests to enjoy a glass of wine prior to the food arriving. We had enjoyed a lap through the gardens ahead of our reservation and had skipped breakfast to full enjoy the experience, so the delay was quite noticeable, at least 30 minutes.

Yelp
We were really excited to check out Farmhouse at Descanso Gardens for a late weekend date night. The setting is beautiful, naturally, though the interior of the restaurant feels a little cold, kind of like a cafeteria with very bright lighting and a weird early '00s pop playlist. On the whole the service was somewhat uneven. Our servers were great, and everyone was friendly, though there is a lack of professionalism from certain staff members, which for the price and setting feels off. The host joking that we couldn't have a table while staring at a sea of empty seats was tone deaf and lacked hospitality. Also-why are there 3 hosts for an empty restaurant at 7PM on a Sunday? As far as the food, it was a mixed bag. The pizza of the day was peaches, prosciutto, and pesto and it was fantastic! The burger was very good, served with thick, skin-on steak fries. Though the homemade catsup served on the side was a sugar bomb. The other food was really underwhelming. We had a few cocktails and they were delicious, and they have a decent beer and wine selection. This is a newer spot, and I hope things fall into a groove, but for about $100 per person with drinks it is too pricey to be this mid.

Yelp
The renovated building is really great ambiance. Not many brunch options. Ordered banana French toast that was very dense and claggy, couldn't eat more than half of it. Also ordered chickpea and eggs. The eggs were rubbery and impossible to chew. But the bread was delicious and the actual chickpea portion was great. Service was slow despite there being so many wait staff in the building. But our waitress was very friendly and personable. The coffee was also very good. So a very mixed experience, hoping they refine their service because it's a beautiful location with a ton of potential to be a local favorite!

Yelp
I just got done with an epic ride on the gray ghost on Angeles crest Highway. I yelped close farm to table restaurants and farmhouse popped up so I zipped on over on my motorcycle, parked and made my way to the restaurant which is to the left after you come past the ticket booth to the gardens. It is located at I sat at the bar and the bartender came up immediately, seemingly busy and said hi. I got some water and sat for a minute while she worked through the customers that were piling up during the rush afterwards I did my usual how long you been a bartender. I would love for you to make me a drink that you've been dreaming about for the past couple of years. It was an amazing drink then I got some soup I got steak. I got dessert. I got coffee. Everything was 100% amazing the service the food the ambience everyone was smiling inside. It was a great location. I would give more stars than as possible on the yelp if I could, I highly recommend trying this place at your first opportunity.

Yelp
Great restaurant idea/pairing for Descanso Gardens. A carefully curated menu. Imported cheeses, fresh peaches and housemade Pesto on pizza, the DESSERTS were so good. Went there for a cousin meetup and it was the perfect setting. Very serene- staff was so welcoming and made sure to check on us. Even other staff members passing by would stop just to see if we were enjoying ourselves. Great place to have drinks and little nibbles, if that's what you're into. A MUST TRY!! Everything was perfect. Chef's Kiss!

Yelp
Service was amazing! I was shocked since they'd just opened when my family and I went. Staff was super on top of everything Ambiance was sublime! The sun was setting and we were sitting on the side patio it was so beautiful. Everything was stunning and yummy! Thank you Farmhouse!

Disappointing service and bland burnt food. Server was very slow and very mediocre food.

Yelp
So happy they opened a quality farm to food restaurant right at Descanso. The decor aligns with nature and real fresh flowers on the table. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seatings. We had their homemade lemonade and seared tuna sandwich. You can taste the freshness. Our waitress Franny was very attentive and helpful. Overall perfect!

Yelp
What a wonderful spot. Food is excellent and it's beautiful. The tables and bar are made out of wood from trees that fell down in the gardens. Adam the head chef is very nice and charming. I might just get a gardens membership because of this place

Yelp
I absolutely loved my experience here at Farmhouse ~ I'm a member at Descanso Gardens and I've been coming here since I was a little girl ... My dad would bring us on Sundays. So many beautiful memories!! We are now lucky enough to have this awesome restaurant to dine at !! Fabulous experience all the way around. It was my second time having lunch here Service was great!!! Atmosphere beautiful ...peaceful ... Food was very good. "Stand out" was the melon with whipped ricotta and their delicious farm bread .... also they make a great Arnold Palmer !! Thanks Farmhouse See you soon !

Yelp
Great food and surprisingly kid friendly. The bathroom (specifically the restaurant bathroom, not the one for the main area) had a full changing table like you'd have at home. The kid Menu had a burger that my picky toddler actually ate - generous portion too and nicely grilled. We parents enjoyed ourselves too! EXCEPTIONAL cocktails recommended by (maybe invented by??) Farmhouse fave, Franny. (She's a hoot and On. Her. Game.) Incredible service and the atmosphere can't be beat.

Yelp
I'm disappointed to be leaving this review, especially after previously writing such a positive one. My husband and I were thrilled when this restaurant opened so close to home and have gone every weekend since. Today, however, we had a very unpleasant experience when bringing my husband's parents and our 4-month-old baby for lunch. When my husband asked the hostess for a table for four plus a stroller at 3:15pm, she coldly told him they were full until 8:30pm even though the restaurant was nearly empty. She insisted no reservations were available, despite us clearly seeing many online. I booked one on the spot for 3:45pm, but when I told her, she said she still couldn't seat us because the reservation was for four and we had five. I explained that our baby could sit in my arms without the stroller, but she hesitated, said she wasn't sure, and then backtracked to "I'll see what I can do." Only after I asked to speak with the chef/owner (whom we know from many past visits) did her tone shift and she suddenly managed to seat us. Once we were at the table, dinner was good and the staff was kind, but that first interaction was so unnecessarily rude that it ruined the mood. It even left us questioning whether my husband was being profiled. Our bill was $500, and when we left, the restaurant was still mostly empty. Sadly, what should have been a special family meal turned into an uncomfortable and disappointing experience.

Yelp
Excellent! I've been to this restaurant three times in the past month, and every time it's been a win--the food's always delicious, the drinks are on point, and the staff couldn't be friendlier. Huge shoutout to Franny, the bartender--she's so awesome we came back just to celebrate my friend's birthday with her behind the bar. Top Food and Drink Picks: -Carrots -Beet Salad -Tuna sandwich -And any drinks Franny recommends. She got me to try gin for the first time and I LOVED it! We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
No captain running the ship sums things up. TLDR: They were out of the items they were known for, slow service and unable to make basic items like a sandwich on time. We came here on a Friday night after attending an art opening at Descanso Gardens, meaning there was a larger than normal crowd. It doesn't appear the Farmhouse did any coordinating with DG because right when we sat down we were informed they were out of the short ribs and that they couldn't offer sweet potato fries with the tuna sandwich. Ordered: Bottle of Brut. No ice bucket was provided had to track one down on my own. Cauliflower steak (Nice flavor with vinegar, rosemary and pine nuts) Roasted carrots (Nice recipe but the carrots themselves lacked any sweetness) Tuna sandwich (Kitchen was backed up so we had to order to go) I was shocked how unprepared the restaurant felt for a Friday night service. Not a good look.

Yelp
Nice decor and setting. Bad to mediocre food for the price. Ordered two starter soups and two entrees. After an 15 minute wait the entrees showed up and a minute latter the soups came. The server when questioned about the timing said he tried to get the soup out but it was the kitchen. One entree was ordered to medium but after taking two bites it was clearly barely cooked or raw on the interior. I told the server and he took it away and then instead of remaking it as the raw meat juices had leaked out, the kitchen just put it on the grill again and brought it back(gross). The other entree was fine if not inspiring. I pointed this out to the manager and he did take my meal off the bill. Left hungry as I did not eat the returned food as I did not trust the kitchen. It's a shame as I wanted to like the place as it at the Descanso Gardens and is so convenient. It's a great space but something is off with a kitchen that has poor food handling practices. The waiter and floor staff were nice and courteous.
